To be fair, and being familiar with military policing, for several years, your figures are actually opposite of truth, toomany. Around 15% of police are "egotistical maniacs", to some degree, from "better than them, to "shoot or book 'em" most police are helpful and want law abided peace. Interestingly, about 15% of the general public are not "good people", for various reasons, some being batshit crazy, most are good people generally. Most interesting of all, to me, 90% of folks digest every dot and comma of every news story, without question. I think the commonality here is that many ZHers do not and seek better info.
I have very little contact with LEO, but my anecdotal experience of civilian police definitely jives with toomany's claim. I've had some very helpful experiences (one in particular after a bad car accident), but in general, most of the officers are arrogant bullies - both men and women - who are exactly the kind of people who should be prohibited from having any authority over others. I am having a hard time buying your 15% figure.
One thing I've realized is that it's not just the police that people are reacting to. It's the whole criminal "justice" system, which has become larger than the Russian gulags. It is impossible to separate the power of the State to incarcerate large numbers of people under conditions equivalent to torture (e.g. solitary confinement for long periods, CMU units, etc), from the people who actually act as agents for that system.
After reading about the treatment of Bradley Manning, I have come to the conclusion that the standard operating procedure of the entire military is that of blatant disregard for any human rights whatsoever. It is not psycopaths out of control, it is simply DOD policy. Torturing human beings for "information" is now standard operating procedure. That is to say, the entire military machine and all the assinine spookery that only generates blowback is a collosal, first-class failure.

The FBI had been in contact with suspect #1 on numerous occasions. He lived less than 2 miles from the scene of the crime. They did not question him after the bombing, nor were they able to ID him once they had photos.

Suspect 1 & 2 were likely dead on arrival. The FBI allowed the doctors to tell the world suspect 2 is alive, however there will be no more updates for national security reasons.

A typical angry 19 year old boy who was impressionable. It was the older brother who plotted, trained and masterminded this. The older brother died with all of the important answers. The younger brother looked up to him as a father figure since his real father had left a while back for Russia. The kids mother was busted for shoplifting from Lord and Taylors and that must have pissed him off. This kid has friends, but still feels segregated because of his culture. The older brother was the only one he can really relate with. He would do anything to get his respect, to look "cool".
Along comes the older brother who had messed up his own life and blamed it on America instead of himself. He was a boxer who won the regional competition but ended up being denied a spot in the nationals because he was not a fully legal citizen. They say that is when the older bro stopped going to the gym. Instead of acknowledging it was his ignorance of the rules, he blamed it on our system. It instilled jealousy towards other athletes. Here he lives where the Boston Marathon is and sees international athletes can win it, and it added to the hatred. Sports worship was really at the core of this bombing, but Islam was the ultimate cheerleader that led him to do it. The older bro was also in trouble for beating up his girlfriend. The FBI was on his back a couple years ago. He is heading towards 30 and realizes he took a wrong path in life and thinks it is too late. He goes back to Chechnya and is around people who act, look and think like him. The exetremist muslims among them realize they can exploit this guy because he is an insider in America, and they put him on a pedastool. They exploit his competitive spirit and make it a sporting match of Islam against America the evil.
You can even see from the evidence that the older brother was the main guy. When they were walking into the marathon it was the older brother walking ahead. The younger at a distance. Perhaps so if they come along a cop or bomb sniffing dog the first can be caught while the other escapes? When they had a shootout with the cops, it was the older who strapped a suicide belt to himself. He took on the cops and let off explosives so the younger brother can escape. how is it that these two were able to get the materials, assemble the devices, smuggle them in and plant them right at the finish line, right under the noses of Bostons finest including, by eyewitness accounts, bomb sniffing dogs working right in the area where the bombs were detonated?

why was it so important during the presser unveiling the photos of the two suspects that we look only those pictures, that we the public should focus only of those images and disregard any other photos and videos regarding the events of that day. the guy giving the presser said it, that those photos were the only legitimate source of info on who did it, everything else was to be disregarded and ignored. all that after begging the public to send them everything we had cause they had no idea who attacked the marathon. doesn't that seem strange?
and those videos and pics of people waiving flags and celebrating after the capture of the second suspect...after being locked down and told to stay inside there homes, not go to work, not go to school, not go outside as if it were some king of chemical or biological attack.

Suddenly, the suspect who was arrested isn't allowed to be Mirandized. Reading him his Miranda rights would mean that he indeed has rights.
But now, it looks like the government wants to declare him to be an enemy combatant. That would mean that he can be held indefinitely in prison without right to legal counsel or a trial by a jury of his peers.
This is extremely dangerous. If a person's rights can be revoked at will by the government, do we really have any rights?
I wasn't aware that the right to a fair trial was contingent on the government's mood. As I understand it, you have to be allowed your day in court. You have a right to face your accuser and see the evidence being used against you.
All Americans must demand that this person be allowed a fair trial. If we don't, then we are giving up our rights without protest. Then the United States will become the land of tyranny, not the land of the free and the home of the brave. Giving up one's rights isn't brave. It's cowardly.
