Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Unarmed At Time Of Boat "Shootout"
Three days ago we pointed out that while the story surrounding the alleged Boston Bombers had many gaping holes in it while it was being made up in process, following the filing of the official sworn FBI affidavit making things up out of thin air would become far more complicated. Sure enough, one specific section in the 11 page sworn testimony caught our attention: the one discussing the capture of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev following the boat "shootout". To wit:
We were thus surprised to find the first gaping hole in the government's official version just 3 short days later. Because as it turns out, as per the WaPo, the proability of a "shootout" between the suspect and the Boston police was severly curtailed following the revelation that he had been unarmed the entire time he was hiding in the boat.
Although police feared he was heavily armed, the suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing had no firearms when he came under a barrage of police gunfire that struck the boat where he was hiding, according to multiple federal law enforcement officials.
Authorities said they were desperate to capture Dzhokhar Tsarnaev so he could be questioned. The FBI, however, declined to discuss what prompted the gunfire.
Other law enforcement officials said the shooting may have been prompted by the chaos of the moment and some action that led the officers to believe Tsarnaev had fired a weapon or was about to detonate explosives.
“They probably didn’t know whether he had a gun,” said one law enforcement official, who like others interviewed for this article spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation. “Hours earlier, he and his brother had killed a police officer, shot another officer and thrown explosives out of their cars as the police were chasing them. They couldn’t assume that he did not have a gun and more explosives.”
The FBI, having been happy to provide the testimony for probable cause, suddenly finds itself silent:
The FBI declined to discuss the exact sequence of events that led officers to open fire on Tsarnaev’s hiding place and whether the dozens of bullets that struck the boat caused any of his gunshot wounds.
One wonders then just how the story about the purported suicide attempt involving a shot into his own throat when he had no gun, will develop from here on out.
Finally, trust Joe Biden to put it all into perspective:
On Wednesday, Vice President Biden eulogized Sean Collier, the slain Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer, and denounced Tsarnaev and his dead brother as “two twisted, perverted, cowardly knockoff jihadis.”
Indeed, who needs an in depth investigation when you have a Gun Tzar, well-versed in all the facts months ahead of any official conclusion?
Oh well: when it comes to putting the heavy foot of the law down, the end always justifies the means. Now it was two suspected (still) bombers and "cowardly knockoff jihaids." Who will it be tomorrow? Don't worry - trust the government to know the difference.

The FBI report doesn't say anything about him having any weapons on the boat, which kind of confirms what wapo is saying.
Funny that the police didn't employ an escalation of deadly force. Yes, there was a risk the guy would come out shooting, but that's why police are police and not accountants. I dialed in to the online police scanner during the last hour of "Operation: Three Hour Tour" and once he was taken into custody, there was zero reference in the over-air chatter regarding any form of neck/face/head wound to the suspect. Seconds after being carted away, chatter instantly reverted to a lot of "High Fives" and self-inflicted congratulations from everybody from the dispatcher to the dog catcher.

What seems surprising is the first sentence of the affidavit stating the FBI agent has been employed by the FBI since 2009. For a major case like this, I would have thought that an agent with longer experience in the FBI would make the affidavit.

Surround a guy with half the police in Mass. who've been working day and night to find him, tensions are a little high, and it only takes one guy with a badge, too little sleep and steroid rage to precipitate a rain of lead. The result was almost inevitable and I'm surprised that no police were injured in the cross fire. Perhaps we'll hear about some friendly fire injuries in the days to come.

FLIR images can tell whether someone is armed with a disimilar metal like material.

The ZH article is about Dzhokar's neck wound not Tamerlan.
So I'm looking at a FLIR image with the gain so high that his 98.6F head is lit up like the sun. Then I'm looking at what you're saying is the point where he shoots himself in the neck, but there is no visible muzzle flash.
No idea how frame-rate applies on modern FLIRs. Forr argument's sake let's say there was a gunshot but the muzzle flash occurred between Waco-era 1/30th of a second frames or whatever and otherwise isn't visible.
Blood and neck tissue would be lit up like his head so I understand what you're interpreting as a blood spot (spurted or otherwise).
What I don't see:
1. The blood and tissue atomized and heated by the muzzle flash which should be visible for seconds. It should look like a cloud and be visible in the image, but who knows.
2. (when he was being hauled away) Trauma to the head or neck from injecting compressed combustion gases into soft tissues. Blanks have killed a lot of dumb people. Pressing a muzzle of a pistol in/on/around your neck and firing - blanks or not - is going to move a lot of stuff where it shouldn't be.
Neither of those discredits your observations - I'm just tossing them out as something else to consider. At this point, I'm not even 100% sure if Tsarnaev was ever in the boat (not that I really care). The owner didn't see him and I have to rely on information provided from two unreliable sources: 'officials' and news networks.
