Washington Exempts Itself From Obamacare, Airport "Sequester" Delays

Tyler Durden's picture

The uncomfortable effects of government actions are being felt everywhere.

Obamacare concerns are, anecdotally, delaying hiring, causing firms to change benefits for the people, and increasing taxes on the great majority.

On the other hand, in the context of the "sequester", which is merely a slowdown in the breakneck rate of government spending, anyone who has traveled by plane in the last month knows the full court press efforts under way to ensure the American public knows just how 'devastating' the sequester cuts are - with delays rising exponentially with every dollar removed from the FAA budget.

But there is a group on 'Americans' who are not feeling the pain of Obamacare or Airport delays. This group of people remains comfortably unaware of the reality that is being passed on the rest of the US citizenry.

As Politico reports, Congressional leaders in both parties are engaged in high-level, confidential talks about exempting lawmakers and Capitol Hill aides from the insurance exchanges they are mandated to join as part of Obamacare; and as the Washington Times reports, the chief of the FAA told Congress today that Washington-area airports will largely escape the effects of the air traffic controller furloughs.

It truly is good to be king, alternatively Americans are equal, except those who are excempt from all the rules and regulations of America - they are just a little more equal.

Via Politico,

Congressional leaders in both parties are engaged in high-level, confidential talks about exempting lawmakers and Capitol Hill aides from the insurance exchanges they are mandated to join as part of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul, sources in both parties said.

The talks ... are extraordinarily sensitive, with both sides acutely aware of the potential for political fallout from giving carve-outs from the hugely controversial law to 535 lawmakers and thousands of their aides. Discussions have stretched out for months

...

“Everyone has to hold hands on this and jump, or nothing is going to get done.”

...

When asked about the high-level bipartisan talks, Michael Steel, a Boehner spokesman, said: “The speaker’s objective is to spare the entire country from the ravages of the president’s health care law. He is approached daily by American citizens, including members of Congress and staff, who want to be freed from its mandates. If the speaker has the opportunity to save anyone from Obamacare, he will.”

Via The Washington Times,

The chief of the FAA told Congress today that Washington-area airports will largely escape the effects of the air traffic controller furloughs — a blessing for lawmakers who fly out of the nation’s capitol.

Michael Huerta, head of the Federal Aviation Administration, told a congressional panel that the Washington region’s airports are spaced out enough and have enough spare capacity that furloughs to air traffic controllers won’t hurt as much here.

Are the Washington region’s Popeye's spaced out enough and have enough of a diverse customer base that cuts to our Surgeon General's cafeteria per diem won’t hurt their business as much?

Can someone please direct me to a single productive thing this woman has done during her tenure, other than support the local fast food community?  Thank goodness we are cutting air traffic controllers, and not her government-employee meal plan.

Did anyone read the full Politico article?

These Assclowns are actually stating the reason that they want to include their aides is POSSIBLE BRAIN DRAIN!  They are worried that young talent will leave the Hill due to increased cost of living and that experienced aides will take the opportunity to find the revolving door.

What makes them think all the Hill Rats will find employment in the private sector where employers are struggling under the immense weight of Obamacare and over-regulation as it is?

Ok, so just so we are all clear on this… They OPENLY ACKNOWLEDGE that the parasite is killing the host.  Yet, rather than get the host healthy, they want to immunize the parasite?

Jeeeezus you just couldn't make this shit up…

Government-Imposed Taxes on Air Transportation

Along with traditional income and payroll taxes, airlines and their customers (passengers and shippers) pay many special taxes and fees to a variety of authorities, both at home and abroad.

Among the stated purposes of these taxes and fees are homeland (national) security, environmental protection, agriculture inspection, infrastructure enhancement, airport and airway operations and maintenance, and agency financing.

Why sequester shouldn’t hurt airline travel — we pay user fees when we fly

http://consumertravelalliance.org/2013/03/06/why-sequester-shouldnt-hurt-airline-travel-we-pay-user-fees-when-we-fly/

"As I listened to Secretary LaHood and Secretary Napolitano warn about the draconian cuts they will be forced to make in terms of air traffic controllers, TSA screeners and customs and border agents, I began to wonder why air travelers are whacked with user fees every step of their journey.

Shouldn’t travelers be immune to the sequester? After all, our mandatory travel user fees associated with flying are not dropping. Why are we being threatened with cutbacks in services that we pay for every time we fly, go through security or re-enter the country?"

This is another reason why it is so very important for right-thinking people to stop supporting the mainstream media. Disconnect your cable/satellite TV. End your newspaper subscriptions. Don't hit internet links to outlets like NYT (Pravda on the Hudson) or WaPO (Pravda on the Potomac).

When you starve the mainstream media, you starve the megalomaniacs. Make them shout into an empty room.

Dear Meek Citizens and Deluded Minions,

Vaseline, KY Gel, and all personal lubricants are no longer eligible for coverage under Obamacare nor any longer included in the EBT program.

In fact, our government from now on prohibits the production or distribution of these products in the United States.

" As Politico reports, Congressional leaders in both parties are engaged in high-level, confidential talks about exempting lawmakers and Capitol Hill aides from the insurance exchanges they are mandated to join as part of Obamacare; and as the Washington Times reports, the chief of the FAA told Congress today that Washington-area airports will largely escape the effects of the air traffic controller furloughs.

It truly is good to be king, alternatively Americans are equal, except those who are excempt from all the rules and regulations of America - they are just a little more equal. "

The Founding Fathers had the Second Amendment before they had written it down because it was "Self Evident".

They knew what to do with it.  And the British found out.  And Freedom was gained.

What's our excuse against such tyranny?  The voting booth?  The phone call to your Congresscritter?  How's that been working lately?

Of course, when the critical mass is reached and the gun is picked up....will we be singing...."Meet the new boss....same as the old boss." ??

Probably.  Welcome to Prison Planet.  Get used to it.

Of course The Ruling Class Elite do not live under the rules they pass down to us serfs.  Never have throughout all of history, everywhere.  And this is what we get for not being vigilant.  This is what we get for elevating bread & circuses over keeping govt in check, personal responsibility, and selflessness. Its going to get worse before it gets better - for the serfs.

The smart serfs aren't very serfy.

They pull their money from the system, buy from the internet P2P and really don't give a shit about the laws they pass because they simply don't comply with them.

When enough people disengage from supporting Big Banks and their Govt. minions, there will be a realization that TPTB have lost control of the population.

Like Fiat currency, Govt. legitimacy is a matter of belief. Lose the belief and the power follows. A lot of state and localities are beginning to push back against the Central State power grabs and will not comply with E.O. diktats and Congressional overreach.

A friend of mine who is a high level State LEO that deals with Federal LEOs says there is a growing awareness and discontent among the rank and file of the militarization of State and local cops to do Washington's bidding under the guise of 'National Security' since 9/11.

There's a lot of quiet Patriots out there that will not join the jackboot crowd and will actively work to foil any attempts to introduce a martial law type takeover of local LEO's. This also includes high ranking military types as well. These are not low information people. They see the direction the Govt. is heading and they don't like it at all.

My conversations with him encourage me that all may seem to be lost but that is not the case. They take their oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the US very seriously and will do so if necessary.

They just can't shoot everybody.

They'll just get the loyal half to shoot the disloyal half, if they have to.

But it won't come to that. Every year the old ones retire and new ones join and the new ones don't know any other system exists. To them, this is normal.

Just like the ones you have now accept conditions that would have sparked a revolution 50 years ago. By today's standards, Richard Nixon was a liberal.

there's nowhere to hide.

Watch Steven Spielberg's "Minority Report" (based on a Philip K. Dick story.....RIP, Philip) and we are already there.....minus the hovercraft and genetically modified attack plants (...er...well...sorry...Monsanto probably has that as well).

Well, I admire their chutzpah.  They have come to the realization that they can do whatever they want and get away with it.  Soon they will legalize pedophilia for Congressmen, cocaine distributors will be installed, and they will all get free suitcases of freshly printed bills once a month.

And why do they get away with this?  Because Americans are willfully ignorant, uneducated, ill-informed idiots who believe in God, in Horatio Alger, Fox News, Bush, Obama, and the dietary merits of Doritos.

It used to be these kind of things would at least prevent re-election if not provoke lynchings. Today the reaction is "Well, dammit, they're right.  We should all be exempt and will be when we get rich with our McJob and 401k."

Personally, I am going to see if I can move in with Wonko the Sane.

What sucks is they will do this, take some heat for a few days, maybe even weeks and then all will forget. If you are a Republican you can say I voted against it so of course I don't want what all these "other" people have to deal with and the Democrats will get some media help to explain what it is not right for them.

This sickens me, but I struggle to be surprised anymore.

I think you only need the quotes around the word Honorable.

Quotation marks can also be used to indicate a different meaning of a word or phrase than the one typically associated with it and are often used to express irony.

Having just come back from DC, this is just a continuation of an old story. Did you know that as policy, federal employees go to the front of the line (literally) for entry into museums such as the holocost museum and smithsonian museums? Our tax dollars at work... The sooner as many people as possible recognize the outright injustice of each mounting avalanche of unread legislation, the sooner we can hit the reset button.

If there was any justice the Congress, their families, the staff and each federal employee and serving military and their respective families would be the FIRST Guinea pigs for the more and more government intrusion these crooked crumbs foist upon honest citizens.

The solution to the problem is always the same.  Ignore them!  Obey the 10 commandments as to respecting your neighbor (don't hump his wife or steal his sheep or vice versa), but ignore every other law!  The Secret Freedom Fighter is an excellent book about the simplest way to break down a bloated machine of a government is to simply quietly go about not paying your taxes, not reporting your income, and breaking their control via non-compliance.  Naturally this was more so in the 1970's before the advent of the controlled online banking -  but it's merit is still true.

Eventually one day the market is going to crash, and when it does the people are going to be super poor again.  When that day arrives the elite will actually loose their power tremendously as those who do survive this will become extremely independent, and also extremely law ignoring.  And that is the way it should be!

maybe we here in DC will be spared from the controller furloughs at DC area airports, but our airports are being impacted like everyone else.  when you have major delays at major airports around the country, the ripple will be felt in DC.  2 hr wait on the tarmac at Reagan last night to get to NY.  colleague going out of Dulles never made it in after boarding 3 separate flights to NY. when i landed in NY, there must have been 30 planes lined up on the sidelines waiting to take off.  all for a 2% budget cut.
