White House Hints At Use Of "Military Force" In Syria

Tyler Durden's picture

And it was shaping up like your typical boring, noonish "gold-smackdown-so-JPM-can-refill-its-vault" Friday. Trust the White House to come out, guns blazing, false flags waving, and make those selling hard assets into the weekend think twice:

  • US PURSUING "DEFINITIVE" EVIDENCE ON SYRIAN CHEMICAL WEAPONS
  • WHITE HOUSE SAYS OPTIONS FOR DEALING WITH SYRIA USE OF CHEMICAL WEAPONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT EXCLUSIVE TO, MILITARY FORCE

Well, you know what they say: seek and ye shall find. Just ask Bush.

As for what the White House failed to mention is that the other options are, well, military force.

he can't afford to lose Tartus, which he knows he will if NATO boots Assad.

I don't see this playing out without some type of direct confrontation between Russia and NATO, on what scale is anybody's guess, but I don't see where any sort of back alley deal can be made. the question is who else will pile on and who will sit on the sidelines once the bullets and bombs start flying?

I would at least argue that this announcement has the potential to be one of the biggest steps we have taken towards WW3 in a very long time, possibly since the Cuban missile crises.

Syria is supposedly where the Saddam regime shipped out chemical weapon stocks during GWII.   So there is, probably, the same ash-and-trash mustard gas program articles around Syria, similar to what "Chemical Ali" used against the Iraq Kurds in 1998.

That being said, this Iraq redux; a predetermined invasion plan launched with a WMD casus belli.    Pure luv for the war contractors.

Politicians throughout my lifetime has always viewed chemical warfare as "breaking the rules" of some agreement made by certain governments in what is the the more "gentlemenly way" to kill people.  Nothing like politicizing death and somehow ranking killing into a matrix of good vs bad ways to kill.  I don't quite understand the logic.  They human being killed is dead.  The how after the fact is totally insignificant to the dead.   It only makes the killers somehow feel better and more "humane"  What a crock of shit.  Dead is dead.  End of story.   If a government is going to take a decision to kill a person or a society then do it and quit acting like there is a right way and wrong way.  That the "chemical gas" excuse is somehow justification for taking out another government is pretty played out excuse as well.  Not much original thinking or creativity anymore.  Just trot out the same old shit.

If our "leaders" decide to make war on another country it would be easier on the taxpayer if they just went old school like Sherman did,  or perhaps get original thought going and leave it alone, which should be the only option.  Even if it did happen, only when the majority of the citizens of that nation decides enough is enough and stand up for themselves will there be any chance of success and our involvment will actually be viewed as liberators and we will see the throwing of the flowers that we always hope for.

When the colonies decided to take the Revolutionary stand, the stand came from within,  after much debate and careful consideration if history is to be believed.   At that point, once the commitment was made, the seeking of outside help from the French  believe it or not was sought and gained.   The French just didn't unilaterally decide on their own that we needed "freedom".   Yet the US seems to skip that step and just decide we owe it to other nations people to "set them free" and ironically the US citizen is becoming less free every day.  What a clusterfuck of a world we now have on our hands.

However all of this nonsense has nothing to do with freedom and protection and more about a continuation of a monetary business process as well as power process, than it is about doing the task as quickly and efficiently as possible.  No profit in it that way.  I suppose it is just too much to ask these elites to quit fucking around and let people just enjoy life and quit shoving their fist up our asses,  as the puppets are exhausted and our assholes need a break in order to tighten up so we can regain our control over our own bowel movements.  Instead they keep going deeper and deeper until they are tickling our larynx.

One last thing, isn't it intersting the same subset of Americans that once fought so ferverantly against that John Wayne type of America and "fight the power" and down with the Authority are now so entrenched in shoving the very genie they released from the bottle a few decades ago back in?   Hmmm.

Remember "make love not war", "War what is it good for, absolutely nothing, say it again",  "Hey Hey LBJ how many kids have you killed today",  and lastly there was something about "not trusting anyone over 30".   I guess now is truly the time to take the "brown acid" that was tainted at their Woodstock.  Perhaps that is the problem, they all took that brown acid and they are tripping in unison.  Talk about an asshole generation.

I have an idea for America to balance the budget.  Stay home.  Let other people solve their own problems because we (the west) have proven that we can't solve their problems for them.  We save the cash and rebuild our balance sheets and they figure out how to live together and call us when they have it worked out.

I was wondering why it is OK to kill people with bombs, guns and even nuclear weapons but repugnant to do it with chemical weapons.

Then I realized that guns and bombs are a bit more discriminating. When you drop chemistry on an area it kills the whole area. I suppose the elites don't like weapons that kill everyone (and everything for that matter). They would prefer the weapons that can only kill the little people and leave them standing behind their bullet proof glass. Besides, if you poison a region you can't come back to it soon and commercialize it. With a bullet, you can

Killing is killing in my book

In fact, it is quite the opposite. Nerve gases can be quite effective (with proper wind) and after 1-2 days nothing is left and the area becomes safe again. Depleted uranium and phosphorus ammos, on the other hand, leave long-term effects, like in Falluja.

Chemical weapons are forbidden by Geneva convention, and thus can provide a casus belli, while the other ammos are not forbidden.

2. a person who favors an economic theory of laissez-faire and self-regulating markets

Now in 2013 this is what it means.

1. Executive order abuse when Republicans want checks and balances

2. Drone attacks approved by the U.N. instead of congress

3. Monetary policy based on whatever Bernanke/Fed  says

4. GMO Monsanto shills in charge of USDA and FDA allowed Judicial immunity

5. Blame Bush for everything

My first reaction to this Administration lie. Here we fucking go again, the Neo-Con warmongers in Washington are gearing up for another big win. The taste of victory in Libya is finally getting to them. Israeli and the USA are hand in glove with the FSA in fabricating this LIE in order to finally get this war going.

Here is something for the warriors to think about. Syria ain't Libya. Libya's radar and moblie missile air defenses were not manned by Russian troops. Syria's are! Does this matter? Well, that is up to Putin and Assad. When NATO begins it's assault on a Syria, it is the radars and air defense missile units that it will first go after. It is a sure bet that Russian troops will be killed in an all out air assault on Syria's air defenses.

Where Vlad takes it from there is unknown. But he knows damn well he has provided Syria with some fairly decent mobile AA systems and Putin has manned them with Russians who know how to use them. NATO or Israel will go flipping insane when the first NATO plane goes up in a fireball. From there NATO will start carpet bombing Syria with cluster bombs. Russians will surely be killed when NATO goes insane. Then it is up to Vlad. Does he surrender at once to NATO? I don't know the answer. But he would be a god damned fool to KEEP surrendering to every NATO attack. He might just have supplied Syria with "Iskander" surface to surface missile. In which case, Vlad has an option to hit some NATO targets VERY hard and VERY fast. Like a Turkish NATO airfield from which the attacks might be launched.

I can't know what is going to happen, but this time Russia is backing Syria, Syria has some modern AA systems, they are manned by Russians. I do know that the Congress on orders from Israel is chomping at the bit to conquer Syria, this starts with air attacks and then the hopes that Al-Qaeda and the FSA can gain a cheap victory like in Libya. Again, Putin has a say in all this. His Navy has a base in Syria, it is from that base Russian troops enter Syria to man the air defenses and it is through that port that Iskanders are said to have been shipped.

Lets say Putin backs Syria. A ship with more mordern AA systems arives in Tartus. Does NATO sink a Russian merchant ship under escort by a Russian warship?

The NATO war mongers are insane. That much I am 100% certain of. They do not care how many they kill. They don't care how much this costs American taxpayers. They don't care how many American soldiers and airmen must die. The USA, NATO and Israel are now becoming an AXIS of evil.

The Turks have already been forcing down Russian jetliners flying between Moscow and Damascus. Russian and Iranian ships have already been boarded at sea, and interned in Cyprus. So yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if NATO kills a few Russian advisors on the ground in Syria.

Syria's military is poorly equipped. They got nothing with which to confront a NATO force. The Russians have only been providing resupply of ammo and spare parts for the Syrians' obsolete arsenal of 1970's and 80's material.

The Syrian national air defense system is already in tatters, since the rebels, at the behest of their foreign backers, have spent a disproportionate amount of effort attacking Syrian air bases and early-warning assets. Only Tartus itself has a more modern anti-aircraft defense, and as long as NATO doesn't directly attack Tartus, it probably will never be engaged.

As in Libya, Western forces will only do the airpower. A small number of advisors and special forces would be deployed on the ground. The infantry will come from the Syrian rebels, and from "volunteers" from elsewhere in the Middle East.

The vast majority of the slain will be Syrians, and almost all of the material damage will be confined to Syria. Western casualties will be negligeable. As for the financial cost, we all know Bernanke & Co. will deal with that: one quick trip to the lavatory, and they will ease themselves to whatever quantity is desired!

The only wild card is if the Putin and his motley tribe of Russian oligarchs decide not to blink. But they blinked in Iraq, and they blinked in Libya. As a result, the Russians got themselves a huge credibility problem, and credibility is the key to deterrence.

It creates a dangerous situation for the world, since the USA and other Western aggressor powers have developed a sense of impunity in recent years. No significant sovereign power has stood up to them during the past quarter century, and the current generation of political leaders in the West have lost much of the relative caution and modesty of their Cold War predecessors.

So if the Russians do decide, by some chance, to try to establish some credibility over Syria, would the Western powers back off? I doubt it. Instead, I am pretty sure the Western powers would escalate.

THE BOY WHO CRIED WOLF

The tale concerns a shepherd boy who repeatedly tricks nearby villagers into thinking a wolf is attacking his flock. When a wolf actually does appear, the villagers do not believe the boy's cries for help, and the flock is destroyed. The moral at the end of the story shows that this is how liars are not rewarded: even if they tell the truth, no one believes them.

Heads they find chemical weapons if Jamie ran out of real gold, tales they don't if someone steps up to sell Jamie some gold to cover his obligations.

Had al-Assad been a better student of history, he would understand that you can only get away with gassing people if you're a friend of the United States. And even then, the retirement plan is brutal - just look at Ghaddafi, Saddam and bin Laden.

In 1986, during the Iran-Iraq War, Saddam was using chemical weapons against the Kurds and Iranians, with full approval by the United States. So much, in fact, that the Reagan Admin provided the Iraqis with intel on Iranian troop positions, knowing full well that Saddam would then gas the hell out of them.

When Iran went to the UN to try and get Iraq to stop gassing their troops, the United States moved to block a resolution comdemning the use of chemical weapons! Mind you, by this point Iraq has gassed to death tens of thousands including Kurdish women and children.
