How To Increase European GDP By EUR22.9 Billion

Tyler Durden's picture

While some might scoff, there appears little the European leaders will not swoop to when it comes to papering over cracks and changing rules, we suspect that when they find out that by the mere waive of the May Day holiday they could increase output across the euro area (the majority of which is on holiday today) by an impressive $22.9 billion. Germany and France alone lose $11 billion of output for this holiday, according to Bloomberg Briefs. So is the next 'growth-and-austerity' plan to ban public holidays and boost GDP...

One way to add 3-5% to Euro GDP would be to include value from creative works including personal diary entries, YouTube videos of stupid people doing stupid things, Facebook postings of cats, childrens art for the refrigerator and R&D on the mating habits of Sea Slugs.

Why not? We did it here in the US.

Surefire way to add 100% to GDP:

Ban all government activities.

better save those hollidays for when he's back because when he's gone, a day at the office is the same as a holliday :)

It's for the children, after all.

Commuting takes too long as well. Perhaps if there were communities where people could all live in some camp of some sort at the factory or job site. They would spend no time commuting, sleep could be managed, and eating controlled. The people could work doing whatever was necessary. They wouldn't need to get paid either, since all of their needs would be met.

I'm sure I've heard of this somewhere else..

Won't someone please think of the Keynesians?

Yes, we will think of them in our love letters, straight from our heart.  By the way, we discovered yesterday that the illustrious Mr. Krugman is a member of the CFR.  Thought you'd like to know.

The French are confused. They think they are the government still. Here in Canada I have French friends who are refuges from Quebec. They state their old workers paradise is rife with corrupt rulers that take half their pay and tell em its for their own good. The smart ones have left and now are building homes for the peasants of Alberta.

Why not just add back in the "lost" output as an intangible? It works here in the USA.

<I've been waiting for the fake GDP numbers to be further faked. Nice to see the US is out in front for once.>

As a child of the 50's and 60's I was always dismayed when Russia would show off their May Day ICBM's and we would stuff grandpa into a too small WW1 uniform and walk him down the street behind the Shriner cars in July.

It just didn't seem very respectable.

As Vince Lombardi once said, growth isn't everything, it is the only thing.

Exactly. Working is not working anymore. You're just a sad number in a gdp boosting, financial fascist environment.

I took another 2 days off, work 4 days a week, in june one more week off, in august 3 weeks off, and i have another 3 weeks to go in the months after till januari 1st.

To pimp multinationals balance with a number in my ear is just not in my nature. When the world becomes 'normal' again, it will be fun again to work.

Let's ban sleeping. Highly overrated. Why not ban eating as well? Saves lots of time chaining people to their computers, feed them on the job and make them wear diapers. When they die from exhaustion aged 40, we will replace them with their kids.

Anyone who has ever spent any time in France knows that during the month of May it is almost impossible to find a business that is open. They are closed for May Day, VE Day, Pentecost and Feast of the Ascension. FOUR meaningless holidays in ONE MONTH for a country that also takes practically the entire month of August off as well. And people wonder why "the economy doesn't grow". It's because nobody is at work!

At my work I get a chance to talk to the security guard. He thinks we all should live Scandinavinian style. Forced morality and all. He is a business major. Seems they keep pumping them out as fast as they can indocrinate them. I try to ask him how can you on one hand dislike corruption yet on the other advocate people with guns tell us how to live.. This glazed look over comes him as he states how wonderful socialism has been for 5 million people.

Seems there is no end to the line of evil. Most dont mean to be but in their stupity they allow the most horrific amoung us to do their evil deeds. Id really love to say there is hope folks but the best we can hope for is to not be sent off to dissenters camp. There is just too many who beleive the news and never think to look a bit deeper than what they have been instructed.
