The Israel Attacks Are Not Irrelevant

At the center of any military campaign is the art of deception. In the military nothing is done without a strategy, generally planned well in advance, and the misdirection of the enemy is always part of any campaign. I have studied enough warfare to understand the concept and it is often some grand deceit, properly implemented, that lies at the heart of winning a battle.

It would be a political disaster for Israel to attack Iran. We may begin our consideration with this premise. On the other hand, it would be politically acceptable for Israel to respond to any aggression that was inaugurated by Iran. Self-protection is always a respectable retort.
Israel cannot and will not allow Iran to have nuclear weapons that can be delivered into the center of Tel Aviv. Iran, engaged in so many lies about its nuclear production that some divinity could not sort them out, continues to exhale its perjury. So to solve its problem Israel must find some way to call Iran out and get them to militarily invoke a crisis to which Israel can then respond. It seems to me that Israel has found its method in their attacks on Syria.
Syria has no capacity to effectively harm Israel. So, screaming in agony from the Israeli insult, they turn to Iran for help. Iran, governed by a delusional crowd, come rushing in to help Syria and instigates some sort of conflict with Israel. Then Israel, claiming that it has been attacked by both Syria and Iran responds and forcefully responds. So as part of the military campaign Israel blows up the nuclear facilities in Iran justified on the basis that they were attacked first. It will not be nice and it will not be pretty but I have a suspicion that Israel is setting up for this sort of confrontation.
Now outliers are funny things. They reside in a community with Black Swans and Pigs that fly. It is an Orwellian designed concept built and painted by Salvador Dali with additional construction provided by Escher. The civilized world rarely pays attention to these denizens because they almost never bother us. No need to make any allowance for these creatures if they are leaving us alone.
Occasionally though, if you have been on the playing field long enough, there is the odd whiff of rancid air that floats past your nostrils. It is missed by most and then dismissed by even the few that notice. Yet I can smell the air and I have stopped to follow the scent. I believe Israel is putting the ball into play and some appreciation, if not scheme, might be concocted now to protect what you have in a world that could be spun on its backside. It is not a surety and it is not readily apparent but Israel has now attacked Syria twice and so it is not the outlier either that the markets deign as irrelevant.

After decades of threats from Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates opened crude pipelines last year bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. This first one runs from Habshan to Fujairah in the UAE on the coast of the Gulf of Oman. Others are in preparation. There is another one that comes out at Muscat, Oman. And another at Mukallah on the Arabian Sea in Yemen. There is also the pipeline to the port of Tripoli, Lebanon. Add to this the East-West petroline running straight across Saudi Arabia to Yanbu Al Baher.
It may be that these were made specifically in preparation for when the time comes for dealing with Iran.

Yes otto, Despite the many claims I hear from Americans that the USN has all it needs to defeat anti shipping missiles like Russian Sunburn, and now even newer upgraded versions, I know that a 100% kill ratio is not going to happen. The torpedoes are a threat, there should be multiple ways to get them into range in these narrow waters.
Somehow Israel has been successful in getting Putin to cancel sales of game changer weapons systems. Most importantly the S-300 long range mobile missile system. These are now in vastly better upgraded versions and the new S-400 is being deployed by Russia in key areas of their air defense network. What Iran needs is just such systems. Take away Israeli air superiority and Israel is toothless against Iran.
However, should Russia finally wake up to their encirclement after NATO conquers Syria and closes Tartus. Then maybe Putin wakes up. I know Israel thinks their are tough, let's see them attack Russian Navy transports or truck convoys of mobile modern Russian AA missiles.
I know from former Navy friends who worked in Fleet Air Operations, that the highest levels of the USN fear mostly two things. Russian anti shipping missiles, and the latest Russian S-400 type anti aircraft/antimissile systems. They believe a carrier strike force flying into an S-400 and TOR defended airspace would suffer enough losses to make follow on strikes a matter for second thought.

Actually, Russia's only remaining base in the Mid East is in Syria. Vast gas fields have been found nearby and Russia is negotiating contracts to use them. Russia is selling most of the weapon systems Assad has and his debt is to them (senior and secured). Chaos does benefit them, but only if they win their bid for Iran-Syria-Lebanon allies. They remember what happened when they lost Egypt and other Arab clients to US aid/weapons and are trying to replace a withdrawing US.
Exactly, a very good summary indeed. Chaos benefits them as a tool of keeping the US and its regional allies preoccupied and off balance. Russia is running a global strategy of soft US contagion across the globe, in a much more subtle way then what they did during the cold war, but the idea is the same: keep us interests off balance and force the US to overextend and be off balance on multiple fronts.

I did google the S-300 story. You are indeed correct, but it is not a done deal. The USA and Israel FEAR that Russia will sell Mobile S-300 systems to Syria. The beauty of S-300 is that they are mobile, both missiles and radars. Truck mounted, easy to shoot and run. The Russian Navy could load the vehicles onto Navy Landing ships in minutes and unload in Tartus in a couple days. Lets see Israel attack the Russian navy. I know their German built subs could do it with ease. BUT, what comes next when a shower of Iskander Missiles begin to land on Israel's naval bases????
And rumor has it, that Russia delivered Iskander mobile surface to surface missiles months ago to Syria as a counter to US Patriot Batteries in Turkish / Syrian border. The idea being that is Patriot shoots down Syrian aircraft, Iskander detonated minutes later with clsuter bomb warhead over Patriots!
From a purely technical point of view, it is not so easy to emplace or move these weapons. Large Surface to Air Missile Batteries are not shoot and scoot. A well trained crew can probably get them moving in 30 minutes, a poorly trained crew, think Syrians, will probably take hours to get them on the move. Second, the big issue will be training and maintenance. Even if they entered into Syria today, they would not be effective combat systems for months, perhaps years, and given the combat results of Arab armies, I say, likely never.
Finally, it is my opinion that Israel and the US have effective countermeasures against these systems. Syria is not going to shoot at anything in Turkey. Turkey is actually driving this. They have had designs on Syria for a very long time - ever since losing it after WWI. They likley joined NATO to give them a shield against the Soviet Union in the event they went after Syria. Turkey deploys most of the ground forces south towards Syria, and military plans for its invasion and conquest. The Turkish army is very large and well equiped. The Turks are just begging for Assad to do something stupid.
Obviously too many problems or it would be a done deal. A lot of good world gov't will do if the whole planets up in flames. But in the end I suspect the greedy bastards to try it anyway.

I not only doubt that Iran would ever aim a bomb at Israel, but if they did I would also be happy to see Israel bomb Iran off the map should Iran ever attempt such a move, provided of course it is not some set up or false flag operation by Israel.

I think Anthony Cordesman at the ISSC(?) did a fairly exhaustive impartial analysis of what a IL-IR nuke exchange would result in...if I recall correctly, about 600k dead Israelis, due to significant civil defense, and the end of Iran as what might be called a country. I say re-read the Crash of '79...dirty bombs over the Shia and Sunni oil fields and say g'nite Gracie to all that oil while the half life cools, say, 25,000 years?
