Boehner On 'Debt Prioritization' Vote - Live Webcast

Tyler Durden's picture

By the end of next week, the Obama administration will no longer be able
to borrow money to fund government operations because Congress has only
agreed to extend the government's borrowing authority until May 19.
While he has smartly expressed his preference that the most liquid bond market in the world "not default,", Speaker Boehner will take to the lectern this morning at 1045ET to discuss the upcoming "debt prioritization" bill.  As Reuters notes, House Republicans are expected to pass the bill today that would require the Obama administration to prioritize government debt payments and retirement benefits if Congress fails to reach a deal to raise the U.S. debt ceiling. The legislation is not expected to go anywhere in the Democratic-controlled Senate and the White House has said it will veto the bill, but what is essentially a tactical maneuver will allow the Republicans, who control the House, to argue they have done their best to avoid a potential U.S. credit default. We are sure the M.A.D. defense card will be played at least once...

Another wortless vote on a worthless subject as nothing will be done regardless if it passes or not.  Hell, these are the same assholes that made a "contract with America" and broke it the first day the GOP captured congress.

Now for some comedy http://www.google.com/finance?chdnp=1&chdd=1&chds=1&chdv=1&chvs=logarithmic&chdeh=1&chfdeh=0&chdet=1368129600000&chddm=765&chls=IntervalBasedLine&cmpto=NYSEARCA:UNG&cmptdms=0&q=NYSEARCA:USO&&fct=big&ei=pbKLUYDJO-O_0gHwwQE

The fact that his daughter is marrying some jobless stoner speaks to his undeniable vaginality.

Commodity (paper) beat-down is manditory cover for more printing.  All of this only accelerates paper destruction (which requires more printing).  It really is becoming comical now.

Correct, the soft default has been going on since the late 70's.  A hard default will bring about a civil war or WWIII.  That would indeed be "interesting".

Location dependent.  When supply lines break and EBT cards no longer work, areas like the L.A. basin may become the latter as 20+ million people simply look for potable water and food.

Ethanol subsidies, farmland subsidies, food stamps, government retirement programs, government sexual harassment training, FEMA, flood insurance, just shutdown NASA altogether, import-export bank financing, maybe cut off the payment to the IMF and UN, unemployment assistance sent to the states.

There's lots of stuff.

So directing our affirmative action president to pay debt obligations before e.g. sending military aid to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt is "...essentially a [Republican] tactical maneuver..."

Steve in Greensboro - - - - to what part of that statement do you object ?  Websearch US support and provision of weapons to Al Qaeda in Syria.  Websearch history of British early involvement with Muslim Brotherhood and later Western running of same. This information is readily available from multiple mainline sources. (In particular check out the work of F. William Engdahl).  The objective is to cause turmoil and instability in the Middle East and Central Asia.

The Republican leaders are IDIOTS - voting for yet another symbolic bill that has no hope of becoming law.  The Democrats have been eating the Republican's cake for the last 25 years because they know how the game of politics should be played.  Are the Republicans hoping for an Obama veto?  If so, it will never happen because this will never be brought up for a vote in the Senate.  We will go to the brink again, and the Republicans will blink, and that will be yet another repeat of the same pattern we have been seeing.  The reality is that no one in Congress wants to actually cut ANYTHING because the headlines will be the MSM interviewing the 'pain' of whomever is affected by the cuts.  Thus the only real 'cuts' are to use money printing and stealth inflation to inflict those reductions, so Congress can blame Wall Street and speculators - you know, the same ones who are the biggest contributors to their re-election war chests.  There is no way out of this pattern without actually driving off the cliff.
