Next week the House of Commons is going to vote on whether to stay in the European Union. It will not be an up and down vote on the subject but it will carry the same weight. The moment has finally arrived; at least for the politicians, though not for the citizens yet. I would like to take a moment and remind Mr. Cameron of Mr. Churchill's famous quote; noted above.
Britain may have been an equal partner in the European Union at inception but now they are a vastly minimized member of the clan. The Brits congratulate themselves that they avoided a number of problems by keeping their own currency. I say to my cousins, "Don't be in such a hurry to pat yourselves on the back." The simple truth is the England should never have joined the European Union at all. It was a great mistake that they now pay for not just with their currency but with an outside group trying and somewhat succeeding in running their country. Regulation by regulation, directive by directive; the Germans gain control.

I am not impolite but neither will I ignore the truth and dance around it in the name of proper European etiquette. I have been told, more than once, that it is not socially acceptable to mention the German past or what they are trying to do in the present. Yes, well, I am a tougher boy than that.
We do not even need to get to motivation. It is not necessary to undertake the tricky subject of just what the Germans are trying to accomplish. We can just remain on the surface and avoid that discussion. The simple truth is, for whatever reasons, that the Germans are totally in control of the European Union. Even France, once a partner, has been thrust aside. There are the Germans and then there is everyone else. The ball is called in Berlin and Brussels is just a front for the ambitions of the Germans and to think anything else is a colossal mistake.
If England does not wake up and recognize what is happening then it will be Neville Chamberlin all over again. Appeasement is never a good answer and today no war is threatened just financial domination. Over time, if Britain remains in the European Union, they will get pushed down into the mud, lose their ability to govern themselves, watch as their financial institutions get trampled by Frankfurt. The Germans will force them into a space presently occupied by Greece, Slovenia and Cyprus. Retribution for two World Wars will finally be won in Berlin.
In Europe today there are no tanks rumbling through the countryside. There are no bullets being fired across anyone's boundaries. What there is, however, is a war of domination and control being fought with money and the German's are winning the battle.
I will go further; there is no longer a European Union. The concept now exists just in name only. There is a German Reich and a bunch of appeased nations that cling to it. Money and trade are both the carrots and the sticks and Berlin uses both side of this coin effectively. It is a very clever ploy; Germany prospers as their neighbors suffer and the capital of a Continent is used to prop up the ambitions and lifestyle of a single nation.
Next week the British will decide for themselves as is their current right. However, my friends, if you decide incorrectly you may no longer be granted the right to make such a decision again as Brussels declares your right to decide "Verboten" sometime in the future. The directive may come from Belgium but the policy will be formulated in Berlin. Choose wisely now while you are still allowed to choose.

Mark Grant is misrepresenting the current situation. The vote next week will not have an effect anywhere similar to a national referendum.
Whatever, there are broadly two main political sides to the EU issue in Britain (and many variations of each):
1. the socialist Labour Party - recently led by EU fanatic (and also EU President wannabe) Mr Tony Blair - which is mostly FOR burying Britain even deeper into the EU morass and becoming a 'regional state' of a United States of Europe. Why? Because the EU is a giant socialist construct and that's what socialists do. Whatever occasionally critical comments are made by Labour's current Marxist Leader Mr Red Ed Miliband, he cannot be trusted one inch to uphold Britain's sovereignty. And if he were to win the next general election and Blair was also to become the unelected EU President (both strong possibilities), Miliband will be covertly ordered by Blair to drag Britain into the euro currency whether the British people want it or not.
2. mostly the Conservative Party. One time Tory PM Ted Heath sold Britain down the river when he took us into the EU on the false claim that it was going to be and remain a 'single market' for goods and services and good for business. ho-ho. Heath knew all along that it was always going to develop into a United States of Europe and that was always the intention. Perhaps Heath was too busy kiddy-fiddling boys to have the time to read the small print of the treaty he signed. Who knows.
But there are others on this side of the debate who on the one hand would like to pull out of the EU altogether and go it alone, but on the other hand also realise that Britain's manufacturing industry (and therefore our export trade) has been decimated over the years by communist Trade Unions and poor management, and they genuinely fear Britain would go fully down the pan if we pulled out.

I don't understand the amimosity directed by England towards Germany here. It seems like Germans and English should be natural allies. Weren't the original English mainly Saxons from north Germany anyway? It seems England (Anglo-Saxons) has much more in common with the Frisians (Netherlands), Saxons, Thuringians, Bavarians (Germany), the Vikings (Denmark, Norway, Sweden) and even the half-Vikings (Russians) than with all of the Latins and Muslims of the former Roman Empire.

I like Mark Grant, but this is over the top. The problem with the EU and the Eurozone is the Euro, not Germany. The southern tier countries loved it when they got the benefit of a AAA credit rating while running junk bond fiscal policies. It worked great, until one day people realized it was a sham. The Commons vote is only on whether to legislate for a referendum over EU membership, which is supposed to be happening in five years.
Things are moving fast, though (even a year ago a referendum seemed a pipe dream) so we may be out of the EU faster than we think, as UKIP are looking unstoppable now.

I am a Jewish believer in Jesus. I was raised in the USA and moved to Israel after college where I lived as an ultra-Orthodox Jew for 18 years. I was baptized by South African missionaries on 20 June 2000 in Israel.
Recently I have had some correspondence with Germans who have shared their perspective on the Holocaust and WWII. I think I might be able to provide you with some answers.
First, these Germans believe that Hitler was a genuine patriot who wrought miracles for a German society that had been devastated by the punitive financial terms of the Versailles Treaty.
Second, they are incensed that Jews, who comprised less than 1% of the German population in those days, virtually controlled the entire German economy.
Third, they consider that Germany herself suffered a Holocaust of intensive Allied firebombings of German civilian cities from the very outset of the war. The book Human Smoke documents Churchill’s murderous crusade against German civilians in nighttime bombings that lasted for six months before Germany finally retaliated with the battle of Britain. The Jewish Holocaust narrative does not make room to even acknowledge this holocaust or those inflicted on Imperial Japan by American bombers. Jews act as though their 6 million suffered more than the global community’s 60 million and are the only casualties worth acknowledging.
Fourth, they considered the well publicized efforts of Jewish groups to boycott Germany throughout the 1930s to be an act of economic warfare and thus deemed all Jewish civilians in occupied Europe to be potential enemies of the state who should be imprisoned just as the Americans incarcerated ethnic Japanese.
Fifth, they know of the transfer agreement between Hitler and Zionist groups. Hitler tried to facilitate Jewish immigration to Palestine which was in fact impeded by the British throughout the 1930s.
Sixth, they believe that the bulk of the suffering of Jewish concentration camp prisoners was due to Allied bombing that destroyed German infrastructure and made food medicine and other essentials for life unavailable.
Seventh, they believe that Hitler heroically tried to stop the USSR from invading and conquering all of Europe at tremendous personal loss and suffering to German forces, an act of sacrifice that the Holocaust enforcers totally ignore.
Eighth, they do not believe there were homicidal gas chambers, claims about which have been used to unfairly demonize and degrade German culture and civilization that they proudly believe to be the most advanced in the world. Books such as The Chamber by John Grisham lend weight to this claim by exposing the extremely hazardous process of executing just one prisoner by poison gas in an American gas chamber.

The EU should actively support Britain leaving. The City of London is a cesspool of economic thievery and games. Germany is just doing what it has done since ever. Producing things and developing new ideas. Together with the German drive to perfection and the ideal location in the middle of Europe success is guaranteed as long as there is not a war. The only thing Germany needs is peace to develop its business. Germany has very little natural resources thus there is no choice left other than importing raw materials, produce innovative goods out of this materials and export the ready made goods in order to pay for the raw materials. This is the German business model since appx 800 years. This explains the many innovations made in Germany.
Its a style of life to own a small factory ( a glons fabrickl ) with a few skilled co-workers and high tech machines producing a "speciality" nobody in the world makes better. The world wide market for this speciality might be small but its enough to make such a small "fabrickl" running. The people working there (including the boss of course) have to know exactly the needs of their clients and they have to observe the markets tight to get earliest information regarding all developments in their niche market.
Flexibility is the most important thing besides quality, punctual delivery, consistency and so on. They chase every possible client and try to make him happy so that their clients knows the following: Whatever technical problem you have or what ever idea for a new product, we will be at your side and we will try our best to make you succesful.
There are many, many small companies in Germany working in such a way. Sometimes Im wondering myself how can this be, that in South Germany there are so many small industrial area zones. Nearly each a little bigger village has at least one. One time I counted in a village called "Waghäusel" which is located between Karsruhe and Mannheim 9 (nine) separate such industrial zones. But Waghäusel has only appx 10.000 inhabitants while the industrial areas are not small. The range of production and services offered there is enormous, many highly specialized.
The secret why many parts of Germany have such a structure lies in the long ago history. Since centuries it was the only way in Germany to get wealthy. And the ruling class, the nobility was pulling at the same rope by giving credit and land to people with special talents and knowledge so that they can start a business. Because the nobility wanted to have a share from the future profits as taxes. Parts of the nobility had a business plan appx 400 years ago to boost business. And this was an initial ignition for parts of Southern Germany. Talented people from all over Europe flocked to Palatinate. A complete new city was founded (Mannheim) all with eager talented men and with credit from the duke of Palatinate. Other regions copied this model because it was extremely succesful. Mannheim became so rich that only the castle of Versaille in France is bigger than the Mannheim castle. And it works till now. Mannheim is bustling again and getting rich again. Through the centuries there were many, many things invented first in Mannheim area and from there they went into the world. A walk through the historical museums in Mannheim is really worth the time.
To all the readers of ZH. The Germans do not have a plan to conquer the world. They just want to make in peace their things and sell it all over the world. But I understand that such a policy is causing trouble but the world is not standing still and new things are developed anyhow, everywhere in the world, be it in China, Japan, USA, UK , France, Italy etc or Germany. The only adivice one can give is that the other regions of Europe do copy the German innovative model so that Europe gets stronger as a whole. Talents are everywhere.
To complete this cycle of wealth creation there must be someone to buy these products and that someone needs to have some wealth to transfer for the exchange to be profitable. This is a problem in a world with so much industrial capacity and so little excess real capital.
If anything, the Germans you refer to are too successful at what they do, so they do it at such a low cost that competition is difficult. This causes trade and ultimately economic and political problems.
Normally a producer is setting the price according to the market conditions. When the market allows to charge higher the price is going up. If the market is weak or the competion is tough the prices have to be low otherwise he can not sell anything. Thats the law of a functioning market. Labor cost do play only a minor role nowadays. Its the technology what is decisive. In the production and in the product itself.
Where does the technology come from if not from labor? It's not just the sweeper of the factory floor that's counted in labor costs. It's the engineers and machine operators as well.
All costs are, ultimately, labor or interest/profit. This includes raw material costs.
Germans effectively work cheaper than their EU brethren. That's the reason their productivity is higher. You could argue that Bulgarian labor is cheaper. It's not when you consider the whole package that includes the machines and tools the Bulgarian uses and the one the German worker uses. And compared to the English and the French labor costs . . .
