Auditing The IRS: "Is There Any Limit To The Scope Where You Folks Can Go?"

Tyler Durden's picture

While it does have all the impromptu genuineness of a made for C-Span soap opera, the following exchange between Rep. Mile Kelly (PA) and the IRS' commissioner Miller was the highlight of yesterday's grilling of the IRS by the House Ways and Means committee, because rehearsed or not, it does capture the prevalent sentiment the US public harbors not only toward its tax collectors, but the government in general.

"The IRS can do almost anything they want to anybody they want any time they want. This is very chilling for the American people.... This is a Pandora's box that has been opened. The American people should be outraged and they are. This has nothing to do with political parties - this has to do with highly targeted groups. This reconfirms everything that the American public believes. This is a huge blow to the faith and trust the American people have in their government. Is there any limit to the scope of where you folks can go? Is there there any question that you should have asked: how much money do you have in your wallet, who do you get emails from, whose sign do you put up in your front yard: this ia tax question? The fact that you all can do just about anything you want to anybody: you can put anybody out of business any time you want.... I think the American people have seen what's going on right now in the their government. This is absolutely an overreach and this is an outrage for all Americans."

And while contemplating these questions, let's make government even bigger, and also why has that pesky Second amendment not been overturned yet?

It's time for a tax boycott. Millions not filing tax returns. (It's not like they need the money ... Ben prints far more than they collect).

We just need one good person to run for president in 2016 who will dismantle the federal government by executive orders.  Hell Obama can grow it the same way.  We just need to involve some shyster lawers who know how to reinterpret  the laws.

taxes are like cooling rods in a reactor. they absorb inflation/devaluation like heat in a reactor.

we have exported all our wage inflation to the slave nations, this is the only type of inflation the fed looks at. it will never return.

the fed prints as much as it wants, as the banks and government need for wars and giant bonuses. we can now see.

TAXES ARE COMPLETELY OBSOLETE   unless the armed irs can be used for HARASSMENT.

While it's true that 'tptb' (the KKK, aka J+A) are trying to kneecap 'uncle sam', the children of 'uncle sam' (ie. the people) also need uncle sam to be put out to pasture (or the glue factory).

The difference is that if 'tptb' kneecap uncle sam, they will impose authoritarian rule ... if the people kneecap uncle sam, they can rule themselves via local community organisation and rebuild from there.

Let the fuckers try to herd cats!!! (It's the central planer's worst nightmare!)

The entire idea of an income tax lacks a moral basis, because this is what happens when you don't have 100% ownership of your labor. If you work for a terrible boss, you can quit your job, and your old boss can't abuse you anymore. But if you are subject to an income tax, you can never quit; you are perpetually subject to the whims of your master, the tax man.

The income tax MUST be abolished. I don't want to hear any bullshit about a "fair tax" or a "flat tax". It MUST BE ABOLISHED COMPLETELY, NOW AND FOREVER. Until it is, we are slaves, and slaves eventually get treated like slaves.

i don't think many people, present company excluded, know that there was no tax before 1915 and even then, at the start it was only on 2% of earnings and was voluntary. this is how creeping incrementalism works.

prior to 1915 the limited republic government was completely funded by tariffs,on goods coming into this country.

imagine what you life would be like without taxes, why are we not working towards a system

like that instead of away from it? because we have been converted to debt slaves by the fed and its franchisees banks.

one day the word treason will be applied, properly to the fed.

Not only that but the "Federal Income Tax" was meant to ONLY tax the income of Federal employees, hence the name.  Should be read as Federal-Income Tax.  I don't make Federal income, you?  Obviously it, along with every other spirit of most laws, has been basterdized beyond comprehension or recourse.

Of course we're not taught that in public schools.  You think they might mention it once during our 12-year imprisonment, but that would go against the entire purpose of public schools: to create obedient slaves.

A free person owns his labor.

We are serfs and have been again for 100 years. I have said this before - serfs in the middle ages owed their feudal lords at least 3 days of labor a week up to as much as 6 in later in times in Poland and possibly Russia. The rest of the time was theirs to use to care for the plots of land alloted to them (that they did not own) to grow their own food. Hunting and fishing was forbidden them. All game belonged to the lord and if they were caught filching as much as a rabbit they could pay with their lives. Their feudal lord held his fief at the sufference of the king and owed him certain duties and obligations. They did not own their land either, and the king could take it at any time and give it to another if he was provoked enough. All land belonged to the government then and does to this day - you are alloted the use of it as long as you pay your rent in property taxes. The revenue act of 1913 effectively reduced the citizens of the United States to the condition of servitude of serfs once again and we don't have just one lord to worry about, but the state and the county and the town, as well. In the US, everthing taken into consideration, the usual wage slave is paying out at least 6 months wages in some form of taxation.

What kind of infantile mind comes up with simplifications as ignorant as "you can quit your job"?

- And while you're "quitting your job", what exactly does one do for food and shelter?

- Why won't the next boss treat you just as badly as the last again? What incentive do they have to do otherwise?

- If "just quitting your job" is a valid solution then why isn't "just dont' work if you don't want to pay taxes" ?

Seeing as how the trilateral commission completely controls the nomination process for both major parties, the odds of an honest man (or woman) ever being elected president stand at roughly one in a trillion.

"We just need one good person to run for president in 2016 who will dismantle the federal government by executive orders."

Do you remember when Ronald Reagan was running for president? As soon as he was nominated the Rockefeller agents Gerald Ford and GHW Bush showed up. For almost two weeks the news headlines revolved around calls for a co-presidency with Bush. Bush was ex-DCI and Rockefeller TLC (Tri-Lateral Commission) member. A groundswell of opposition began to arise over Bush's TLC membership so Bush resigned from the TLC (this was like resigning from the mob)! The push was on and Reagan was pressured to bring GHWB on as the VP candidate (at this point, Reagan was merely a "placeholder" for Bush). Reagan had promised to eliminate the Depts of Education and Energy and to begin reducing the size of the government. The day of his Inauguration RR began to effectuate his promises. A mere 2 months later RR was the subject of an assassination attempt- a .22 cal HP containing small amounts of poison and explosive. The explosive failed to ignite and release the poison but even at that the round almost entered his heart. The attempted assassin John W. Hinckley Jr. was the son of a close personal friend of Bush! While RR was in hospital VP Bush took over as president for the rest of RR's two terms.

When Pres. Kennedy threatned to "Cut the CIA into a thousand pieces an cast it to the winds" and then added insult to injury by signing E.O. 11,110 to restore constitutional money issuance to the government that was too much- he had "to go", so he did.

The point is that we are up against huge evil forces and have been for a long time, and most citizens/sheep don't have a clue. The type of president you are hoping for, if he ever shows up, will not last a single day!

E.O.'s that reduce our rights work for this and past presidents because and only because, the powers behind the curtain support them.

We are being rounded-up and put in the pen by use of bribes and threats. Once there the next stop is the ABBATOIR!

We are up against powerful forces, all right, but you are still confused. The force we are up against are women voters. The influence that they wield is stunningly obvious - they comprise a clear majority of the electorate, and are a rock-solid vote for the welfare state.

Read your history - the income tax and alcohol prohibition could not have been enacted without women's suffrage. Because the ladies don't want you wasting your hard-earned pay on beer, when they have so many more important uses for it.

A bit out of date.VAT in the UK used to be collected by Customs and Excise, while income

tax used to be Inland Revenue Service.C & E has really  draconian powers.

Anyway  they abolished their IRS in the UK, and put all tax collection under Customs and Excise.

C & E don't need pesky warrants.liens,  or supoena's.They are truly a law unto themselves.

Way back then ,everyone ,including myself, dreaded a visit from the VATman.

"cuz i'm the VAT man...yeahhhhh. the VAT man yeah." obviously the purpose of massive aggregations of wealth (if successful) is to "avoid all those pesky rules." that's why setting up tax shelters really is a rather odd approach. "you're just drawing attention to yourself." especially when the tax shelterer in chief becomes "your" Treasury Secretary. simply put Capital has won this fight. Government might THINK it's in the game with "rule making authority" and "deep opprobrium" of "all those law breakers out there" ("yo, bro...remember who bought you before you got elected") we really have reached the phase of "money talks, bullshit walks." i would draw the line at about 100 million at this point (with more to come) "and hence the case for de jure immunity from all dat sheet" (depending on location of course. 100 million would probably get you laughed at of the bulk of the Big Boys Clubs in New York City.) i'm skeptical of this recovery but not because it isn't real or "there" but because the euphoria in equities seems quit the mismatch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wB9YIsKIEbA

I understand your point though. I assumed down arrows would come from those that are too lazy to pick up their cell phone and use google to get their rep or senator phone number to call and express a desire to change the direction of a failing republic.

Failing?

The Republic failed long ago. Definitely after the 17th amendment when the states lost their representation, most put the date when Lincoln destroyed the republic to save it.

Everybodys All, don't take it so personally. People are riled up. The Lincoln thing is historical argument. I occassionally get into discussions on it myself. The argument is when the republic started going downhill in terms of governance and civil rights. Many like to pick the income tax and the institution of the Fed, others FDR, others Wilson and so on. I think it is academic except for the fact that if the current system collapses you want to avoid repeating the same mistakes.

Like you, I say we have the end game right in front of us. We must severely punish this or we will get more of it. You can see more of what I think on later posts, but I personally want the equivalent of government purges, done with liberty, not autocracy in mind.

We have lost our community park to the private high school next door. They replaced the grass with astroturd, put a fence around the field, and restricted public usage hours. In one of the meetings where the city councilman showed up to hear all of our grievances, motherfucker dismissed the 1000+ signature petition as if it didn't even count or exist. When a high schooler stood up to day "I'll turn 18 soon and I'm definitely not voting for you," he replied saying that the kid's vote doesn't matter - he's there to stay regardless.

This is at the fucking city level man. And you wanna try to convince your dearest representatives and senators to change shit at the national level? NO CHANCE.

If you don't you are really not doing your civic duty. That's partly why we are where we are. We are at a point where that is no longer an option.

The state actually came in and said you can't make retroactive laws, and made the city look like dumb fucks. So their answer? Never address the issue ever again, and when I talk to my councilman, he says, "I love the idea, I used to have chickens, but I can't vote for it, the other councilpeople wouldn't like it." As one of the few actual readers in this country (America), who actually reads stuff like the Warren Commission Report (pure crapola), the 9/11 Commission Report (ditto!), and the IRS web site, perhaps I am the only one who didn't miss the obvious?

The Day Before

Whether a certified fraud examiner, an actual investigative journalist, or a volunteer activist (such as yours truly was for many a year in their spare time), the crucial thing one learns is when any nonsensical news event, or momentous event occurs, it is always best to look closely at what transpired the day before.

On May 10th recently, an old IG report was dredged up referring to several IRS agents who targeted Koch brothers' front groups (which newsies reports as Tea Party outfits?) and immediately received, or was mandatorily given, focused and massive national news attention!

So what occurred on May 9th?  On that day, a press release at the IRS web site announced the largest tax investigation in history, an international joint effort between the tax administrations of the USA, Australia and the UK, looking into those untaxed trillions of dollars parked in offshore tax havens from information leaked to them.

This would be the most momentous event on behalf of the citizenry, and against the super rich since the Kennedy and Roosevelt administrations, yet nary a word was mentioned in the national media about this epochal announcement?

On 9/11/01, an airliner crashed dead center into the Pentagon's west wall, killing almost their entire auditing team (DIA's Financial Management staff), and severely injuring the rest.

So what occurred on 9/10/01, the day before?

On 9/10, the Pentagon's comptroller announced that the very same auditing team had uncovered the unaccounted for sum of $2.3 trillion of DoD funds; that is, $2.3 trillion in DoD funds were missing and unaccounted for.

Always examine the events of the day before for the most interest causal factors!

So if I understand your point, you are saying that you believe that the super rich are stirring the pot on this IRS scandal to somehow scare them off from going after offshore accounts? The same super rich that own the banks and our government are trying to disarm the only honest component of government (the ones that despite their nazi like attitudes towards most taxpayers have only our best interests at heart) with a completely irrelavent scandal. Puleeze. Just becasue these assholes have become so absolutely blantant in their criminal activities does not suggest to me that it is somehow a trick or diversion. They simply have no respect for any of us beyond what the most base manipulations require. They see us as the sheep that most of us have become.

Forgive me if I don't get frothy about this, but this is the MO of the IRS and even our entire government.

Nothing is going to change until they cannot print power anymore and pay the gestapo with it.

On the bright side, at least we know that this system is unsustainable.

Good comment on the total surveilance society. I like another term I heard, the "Permission society". You have to get government permission to do anything at all these days, drive, travel, open a business, buy, sell, research, develop and all business speech must be government approved. Somehow, the surveilance and the permission go together, don't you think?

Lifespans have been unchanged since recorded history. In good health one could live to be about 72. Average lifespans have increased dramatically since the beginning of the 20th century as more people live out their full lifetime.

My point was that even without modern medicine and conveniences and given the higher mortality rates of the past I would probably trade our future, surveilance-government permission society for potentially greater freedom of the past. I would probably pick early America. Think Last of the Mohicans or something of that sort.
