A Dollar-Yen Tale Told By An Idiot, Full Of Sound And Fury, Signifying Nothing

Tyler Durden's picture

We are so deep inside the centrally-planned, Keynesio-monetarist Twilight zone, that the best we can advise is just laughing at the utterly ridiculous amounts of daily idiocy hitting the tape now on an hourly basis.

Looking forward to the day that China's central bank buys a truckload of GLD then sends notice to HSBC that they will be taking delivery.

A far better question is when will the PBOC announce what its current gold holdings are (no updates since 2009) which we estimate currently at between 3000 and 5000 tons.

See Sprott for more on this issue, and read this article for what is known and unknown vis-a-vis Chinese gold hoarding.

Curious how no 400 ounce LGD bars with a Chinese stamp on them ever seem to make it across the border and out of China. They export plenty of 1000 ounce silver bars with Chinese markings, but they seem to keep tight hold of all gold mined inside China.
So that 5,000 tonne figure might be on the low side...

I'd guess 6 to 10,000 tons. Ok 10 might be high but I think your 5,000 is a tad low.

10,000 might be on the high side as of now (we're just talking about Official holdings, right?) but it's a nice round number, and it's higher than the US figure of 8,000 odd, and that's going to be the point they want to make. They are keeping quiet until they can demonstrate they are the new #1, in every way.
And as for unofficial holdings, they seem to be supportive of enabling their huge population to buy gold, so it is not inconceivable that guesses as to what the Chinese individuals hold could soon match guesses as to the holdings of the Indian population (generally guessed at around 20,000 tonnes).
Who really holds what? Who holds gold and who holds tungsten? This is one hell of a poker game!

The bigger question is when does China, Russia, and a couple of oil exporting states declare they have accumulated enough gold that they they are issuing a (reserve?) currency backed, at least to some extent, by gold?  Immediate game over for USD, JPY, Sterling, etc.

Arguably, there is nothing Obummer, Bernanke, and Draghi fear more.  Who's David Cameron?

Why would an oil exporting country want to base a medium of exchange on yellow metal, when it can base it on something that actually matters, like joules?

If you want to base a currency on something, base it on something with non imaginary value.  The value of gold and dollars and yen and euros is imaginary.  Their value didn't exist when mankind arrived on Earth.

The value of joules did.  Or calories.

I would suggest that in that context, the value of gold is still pretty high as an industrial commodity.

What an absurd comment.....the value of joules did (exist when mankind arrived on Earth).....first of all, where did they arrive from? Secondly, what value did energy have if no one was around to use it? Or did you mean at the moment people arrived? What value did it suddenly have then? I am really having problems with this.....as for the imaginary value of gold, dollars, yen, etc......I guess you mean that they don't produce energy...which is not really true as you can burn paper. Gold, on the other hand, is a pretty good conductor of electricity.......

Calories are required just to live. No calories = dead.

1 calorie is ~4200 Joules. Therefore no Joules = dead.

Power, to do stuff is measured in Watts, 1 Watt is 1 Joule expended every second. The more power you have the faster you can do stuff and the faster you expend energy.

The Joule is also the SI unit of work. It's defined as the energy required for a 1 Newton force over a distance of 1 metre. You want to apply force over a distance (like a car), you need Joules. You want to do something fast or something big? You need lots of Joules. An average human being can produce about 250 Watts of kinetic energy on a sustained basis. An average nuclear power station produces 1 billion Watts of electricity and another 2 billion Watts of heat on a sustained basis.

As CIO points out, Joules are the ultimate currency. They define absolutely what you can and can't do, life and death, real poverty vs real wealth. They are what geopolitics is all about. The more power you can bring to bear, the wealthier you are in a very real way. The shutting down of Japan's nuclear power stations immediately turned the entire country from a wealthy powerful one in to a poor weak one.

The real problem with Joules is, it would simplify everything; they can't be faked, obfuscated or manipulated and would make virtually the entire financial sector irrelevant. They're also a bitch to produce and to store.

Not sure we're ever going back to the gold-based currency. That said, many will trust the full faith and credit of a country with a currency backed by 6000 tons of gold than a country with little more than debt and taxes.

Well then maybe our fathers and grandfathers shouldn't have been fighting for the internationalists.

Perfect example, how many Englishmen died in WWII, and for what--for their isle to be flooded with hordes of third worlders, London toiletized, mosques everywhere, and for their own posterity to be jailed for correctly pointing out that said third worlders are not in fact British (see Emma West)?

So a bunch of Americans got tricked into fighting for Uncle Sam just the same way that a bunch of Russians got tricked into fighting for Uncle Joe Stalin.  Cry me a river.  We're now all reaping the fruits of their 'victory.'

Then your world is very small, and the people who run it will always have power over you. There's a war going on, and it's not about National Borders, or Resources or <insert your shitty MBA or Engineering degree here> it's about homo sapiens and what to do with them. Unless you missed it, the pro-Homo Sapiens crowd have been doing their thing for 70 years now, but it's now all crashing. People running the EU? Pro-Homo Sapiens. Nixon with the EPA - Pro-Homo Sapiens. Consumerism to give humans everything they desire? Pro-Homo Sapiens. (And that was a dumb fucking idea, because you were re-writing brain connections that were identical to the "God Zone", but let's not go there, but we all know how that faction switched and sold us out to the slavers).

It ain't that simple.

If you want some reality, it's the point that "Belief" [God Zone of the Brain] precludes Evolution. If you're a cut-throat Capitalist, I find it hilarious that you imagine that homo sapiens aren't being weighed, measured and judged by the same fucking ideology you use to make the markets. You still use "BLACKS" as slave labour, for fucks sake, do you think you're not being used in exactly the same manner? Now that is hubris.

You're product under high-order Capitalism. That is all. And the 1.0 batch is fucking it up for the 2,0's, so what happens next? (Hint: Plastic Bags and Dumpsters, I seem to remember).  It's never about "money", look to Big Ben for that lesson, it's about utility. We're attempting to stop the 7 billion becoming the 500 million. Bleh, and you do not make it easy. Pro-tip:  the "people" throwing out millions of mimetic organic robots via fundamentalist Religion?

Yaaaa, they're not your friends, they're the ones wanting slaves. And they're winning.

p.s. I am not on that side, I'm a traitor, remember? (Godammuppitzonegrawr). Oh, and fish are about to go. Everyone knows it, and it has an instant [5-10 yr] cost of ~1-2 billion people. Go look over the globe and wonder how that plays out. This is happening now, no matter your own silly little bubble. If you want to deny it, I don't care, but please stay in your Play-Pen and let the real predators fight it out, because you're dull as shit and limited.

It never has been, that was merely a Red Rag to to the Bull(shit) of your current ruling class. I've posted this before: you're being groomed for destruction. And Blur really aren't your friends.

31st May. I keep getting spammed by it on multiple platforms, all about the "Purge". Either it's psyops or shit or real or amazing viral marketing that can track across multiple platforms all with no trackers. Do what you wilt, but at least keep your eye(s) open.

Keep yourself safe, and Be Seeing You. Now, a week off. Keep an eye on the 24th and then the 31st, obviously. The weakness of apex predators is that hyenas and so on can outnumber us.

You can burn their system.

If you really want to cry as a Capitalist, work out the wealth potential of millions of years of complex solutions to niches in an evolutionary sense, and then wiping them all out before you can catalog it.

Yeah, that should hurt. Let me see ~ $10 million on a jungle trip and a quick $40 mil to preserve the habitat, or $750 million on synthesizing it without knowing it exists.

It's fairly satisfying, with enough hidden hooks & actual morality to make it less pointless than most blockbusters, and it has Gary Oldman in it, who is always fun.

It's not going to set the world on fire though.

Hicks is old news (although a very decent man - strangely linked to Alex Jones though). That prior link was fresh. So, here's a heavy talk about Monsanto. The woman-in-white is a very interesting lady (the man much less so), and knows her stuff. If it's true (and looking through her resume & papers, she has credentials & brains for it to be) then it means active bio/chemical warfare is being waged.

I'd recommend Bad Pharma: How drug companies mislead doctors and harm patients if you want to get a little insight into the way Corporate Science works. Spoiler: it cheats like fuck and does bad science, and kills you people.

And, yes: of course Huff will run a hit piece, they're paid to.

Here's the author of said hit piece: Tamar Haspel has been writing about food and health for the best part of two decades. She's done work for Self, Glamour, Relish, Men's Health, Fitness, Prevention, Health, Cooking Light, and other magazines of that ilk, as well as USA Today and the Washington Post. She's written four books, and is working on a fifth.

Hint: not a fucking scientist. She links to a paper showing how pesticides disrupt the CYP metabolism not herbicides, which Roundup is. Major flag of a bullshitter trying to out-science you. (The Paper in question: The goal of this work was to study the ability of 18 pesticides to inhibit selective model activities for all major xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes, namely CYP1A1/2, 2A6, 2B6, 2C8, 2C9, 2C19, 2D6, 2E1 and 3A4. Yes, we all know how bad organophosphates are for you: Roundup is a herbicide however, and wasn't part of that study.)

The bottom line is that their paper cites 286 references, which is fairly insane for a paper. Either they're just shooting for the Moon, or are trying really hard to show veracity. You don't cite that many papers as a crank; there's 286 potential ways to shoot you down if you make even a tiny mistake. Their funding (Qmulus) is also worth investigating, as with all papers. It looks fairly benign, at least compared to Monsanto sponsored papers.

See how it works? She's an owned dog, nothing more. The fact they trot out these over-fed poodles and expect it to convince you is a show of just how arrogant that faction is. Too long without real competition, too lazy and too self-satisfied. Wouldn't know a real hunt if it came and bit them on the arse.

Oh, and there's some heavy-weights on the issue.

Do note that the original paper never claimed CYP was blocked in humans, it was blocked in their gut fauna. Which he doesn't address.

[1] Not sure this is public: if I mentioned the three levels of GMO, and what they represented and how I find level 1 / 2 ok, but not 3, would that sound bizarre / odd / without source? Do a search on it, I might be crossing a line here: if you find nothing, then I'll have to edit this. Suffice to say the issue is way more complex than is portrayed in the MSM or Conspiracy stuff, and I find the willingness to ditch proper science over profit (and control) to be short-sighted. (i.e. if found out, which it will be, you'll put the project back 50 years, CF tobacco).

Please note: I'm actually pro GMOs (level 1/2 easily, and you probably don't want to know my thoughts on what to do to homo sapiens. Yes, glow in the dark models would be cool, and would sell like hot cakes to teenagers (as long as you could engineer it back), let alone what I'd be doing to hotwire IQ levels).

As long as the science is honest.

The problem is this. That's a fairly comprehensive and well researched outline of the PR stuff Monsanto pulls, and of course, wastes money doing so.

this what you mean by three levels of gmos? (pdf)

"Third-generation GM crops involve molecular farming where the crop is used to produce either pharmaceuticals such as monoclonal antibodies and vaccines or industrial products such as enzymes and biodegradable plastics (Moschini 2006, Halford 2006).

Although concepts have been proven for a number of these technologies, product development and regulatory aspects are even more complex than they are for first- and second-generation crops. Substances produced in the plants must be guaranteed not to enter the regular food chain with a zero-tolerance threshold. Therefore, plants that are not used for food and feed purposes will likely be chosen for product development, or approvals for third-generation GM crops will be given for use under contained conditions only. In either case, this brief overview reveals that the GM crops available so far represent only a very small fraction of the large future potentials of plant genetic engineering." [pp. 668-669]

out of curiosity, what are your main reasons for being pro-gmo? the way i understood gmo purpose, the whole point is to increase crop yield and make product look "better/consistent" to the customer?  but, i question both premises.  why would those be important?  solve world hunger?

we can solve world hunger right now w/o GMO:

"The problem is not enough food, but too much food" leading to over-consumption and waste..."

"With the global population estimated to reach 9.5 billion by 2075, mankind needs to ensure it has the food resources available  to feed all these people. With current practices wasting up to 50% of all food produced, engineers need to act now and promote sustainable ways to reduce waste  from the farm to the supermarket and to the consumer."
