The Hamptons Weekend Disconnect

Tyler Durden's picture

Today's binary message to vacuum tubes: "ignore the last available signal that has driven the market for months and make sure stocks close green" - simply just not to leave a bitter taste in the mouths of all those billionaire hedge-funders enjoying the launch of Hamptons season. The other best hope is that volume tapers (sorry Hilsenrath, we just said the word, oops) to zero, in which case the DJIA (now that nobody even pretends to care about the S&P) may just close limit up on a 1-lot trade.

Long butlers, chamber maids and stable boys! These are the new high-demand skills for the new neo feudal economy. And some will get to go to the Hamptons!

Which is more important: perception or reality?

See, there's some funny shit going on in quantum physics.  A photon, or light particle as it is loosely described has exhibited the following attributes without fail in experiments where it's properties are manifested as it passes through a sheet of metal and registers on a back board.  Carl Huygens (who's an unsung genius) and Newton argued back and forth as to it's essence, particle or wave.

Turns out they were both right, except here's the thing.

The essence of the particle, its properties and definition in space time is determined by human observation.  That's right.  When you're looking at it - it behaves like a particle.  When you're aren't looking at it, it behaves like a wave.  Your act of observation controls not only light, but in quantum theory, every particle in the universe.

So perception is reality, and reality is perception.

How does this correlate to Tyler's post?  It exposes the human element of gross persuasion.  Someone is controlling the deck, and as long as everyone gets two-pair no ones blows the whistle.  Someone on the inside needs to blow the whistle, to have a pang of moral inquiry and expose the roaches in the corner.  It's the only way it's going to happen.

Can't wait until it happens though.  ZH'ers, we shall make it a holiday, when that day comes.

Indeed.  Brilliant insight.  But, there is also a mathematical law/physical function taking place here.  The ponzi must grow or die.  Very few things in the universe are infinite (human stupidity comes close).  If it cannot go on for ever it must stop.  Where is the tipping point......?   That is the only question.

Little Johnny goes up to his father to seek help with his homework assignment. "Dad, can you help me explain the difference between theory and reality"?

Father replies "Sure son, go ask your sister if she would sleep with a man for a Million bucks."

So little Johnny asks his sister and she replies "Of course I would, are you crazy".

Johhny tells his father what his sister said and his father says "Now go your Mother the same question".

Johnny asks his mother is she would have $ex with another man for a Million dollars and she replieds "I love your father but for a million dollars I would".

So Johnny returns to his father and says "she said yes too, but i don't understand what this has to do with theory and reality".

His father explains, "See Johnny, in theory we're sitting on 2 Million dollars, but in reality, we live with a couple of whores".

Sorry, but whether you see a particle or wave also depends on HOW you make the observation.  Some Quantum experiments where you would expect to see a wave will actually shout "particle" depending the method of measuring the quanta.

That's true -- measurement and human observation differ the behavior.

That's actually the point, that human real-time physical observation is what affects the particle/wave duality, not measurement (which according to the standard model) should be identical.

Dow at 15k is FULLY OWNED by Fed + Primary Dealers + Pension funds.

Nothing is floating freely now except for primary dealers bouncing the same batch of stocks around to just give the impression of a market....until the order comes from the White House to call the margin.

No need to wake up the potus and get a signature.

Someone else said this but it is so true.

Obama only hears what is going on in his own organization from the media.  His organization is taking steps to silence the media.

Methinks the organization may be silencing the media not just too keep the sheeple in the dark but also to keep the sheeple in chief in the dark.

It's somewhat complicated to create some spreadsheets that will do all the 1040/Schedule C/etc. math, but once it's done, very few cells actually change from year to year.  I refuse to spend FRNs on TurboTax/QuikTax/etc. because it only runs on Windoze OS's.

I ain't buying shit until the fed gives me the money to buy it just like the banks get! Besides its all too depressing. The only way to come out is to find someone dumber than yourself to sell them to at a higher price. I know there are a lot of stupid people out there but damn! Its just too depressing. Talk about a pyramid, fools stacked on fools ever higher till the whole pile of them comes crashing down.
