Government To The People: "Do As We Say, Not As We Do"
Via Simon Black of Sovereign Man blog,
Last month at our event in Santiago, Ron Paul told me that he used to keep a sign on his desk during his time in Congress that read: “Don’t steal. The government hates competition.”
These days, perhaps a more appropriate saying would be– “Don’t violate people’s civil liberties. The government hates competition.”
And I wish I could say I’m kidding. But in the Land of the Free, they actually want to make this a law.
Yes, that’s right. On the hallowed floor of the United States Senate, recently, bill S1057 was introduced.
It’s aim? “To prohibit the use of unmanned aircraft systems by private individuals to conduct surveillance of other private persons.”
And, just to be clear, by “unmanned aircraft systems,” they mean drones. The same ones that they use to assassinate people by remote control. And, of course, conduct surveillance on private citizens in the Land of the Free.
So what the esteemed Senators are telling us is that it’s bad (and hence should be unlawful) to invade people’s privacy. Unless the government is doing it, in which case it’s just fine.

no soup for you
What's Ron Paul have to say about using the UN to try and steal web domains from people? Everyone is doing it?
Behavior that's pure and simple violation of Natural Laws, the fundamental problem with modern government juxtaposed against the principles framing the Constitution*.
To wit: To do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
* Whoops, did I say that illegal word, Constitution?
I am without doubt one of the least techy types ever to post on ZH,
but I know a bit about aircraft and radios. From the beginning of this shit, I thought the best revenge would be to hack one of those damn things, and fly it up their asses.
Yep, or all of them.
Drones will stop flying as soon as one runs into a building or crashes onto a highway or runs into an airliner or....
Um, that would be a terrorist drone. When that happens we will need thousands more patriot drones to make sure it doesn't happen again.
You guys realize the law mentioned has nothing to do with protecting individual privacy. No senator gives a bleep about individual privacy, and you can be sure that even if the law passes, nothing would stop the rich and well-connected from surveilling you.
This law is about protecting big corproate cronies from surveillance by activist groups who would try to document unlawful activities such as pollution, animal rights violations, labor violations, etc. Corporations have the government bought off, and don't feel they should have to obey any laws. They get very angry when a some damned hippies come up with video of their law-breaking taken from a drone.

tell that to the polygraph
dont worry mr black, im so certain that when the chilean govt starts buying up drones (and they will if they havent already), they will shirley allow you to own them as well............after all...chile is utopia.................the only place you can buy a one bedroom casita in the chilean paramo for gringo prices....with trees that grow gold and mermaids in the swimming pool.................and simon will even throw in some complimentary chilean inflation protection bonds..............................
No wait, Singapore ... or maybe Macau ... or screw it all and move to the Weepeckets.
Ya lost me on the "Weepeckets. Whit Sundays? Milestones
Why do you need to go to Chile for inflation when you can stay here and get it in the US from the cheesepope running the Fed?
"im so certain that when the chilean govt starts buying up drones (and they will if they havent already), they will shirley allow you to own them as well............"
Quit calling him Shirley!
Skip the protection bonds and give me a side order of fries.
Shirley? As in Shirley Temple? Or Shirley Bassey? Or Shirley MacLaine? Maybe Shirley Jones, right? Shirley you know I'm chesting...er, jesting.
http://wanderingraven.wordpress.com/2010/12/19/chile-to-choose-israeli-drone/
ohh lookie here, chile ALREADY HAS DRONES!!! bought israeli ones!!! SIMON, DO YOU ALSO HAVE DRONES????
Bring on the 3D printed drones!!
Drones - Because skeet shooting isn't NEARLY as satisfying...
Obama apparently likes both!
Now that is insightful.
PS. You didn't shoot that drone on your own.
Sen. Mark Udall [D-CO] sponsor, no co-sponsors.

So if it has a warhead instead of a camera, it's OK?
That seems to be the federal governments stance.
My asshole Senator -for the time being. Udall, don't even think of coming to S.W. Colo, You dipshit. Milestones
This is the 'Do As We Say, Not As We Do' government.
These are not the drones you are looking for....
Please. The government is morally superior to the rest of us peons. It should have a monopoly on surveillance just as it does money creation. These folks simply have our best interests in mind when they pass laws. We don't want any UAV's falling from the sky and injuring people do we? Of course not. [/sarcasm]
I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.
Okay let's warm up with an article on the JPM gold vault and then followi it up with a read about the JGB yields blowing out. That would make my night.
groundhog day--the movie...............
No shit...I am trying pretty hard to put some belief into the idea that the JGB/UST has some legs but all I keep thinking is I am getting the opportunity I asked for to add to my div paying stocks.
name one equity and we'll go from there. in the meantime here's the guy leading the Big Short: http://finance.fortune.cnn.com/2013/05/09/dan-loeb-japan/ hmmm. "going long Japan by shorting the yen." that's an interesting take on it. so again...what equities are you going long on here? i mean utilities have gotten CRUSHED here...here's a good one to mull over:
http://seekingalpha.com/symbol/exc?source=search_general&s=exc wow. monkey hammering a nuker. 7% in one day! i'm sure that goes over well. in Illinois no less! "must be the wrong kind of political connections." does focus the mind on the ever present need for liquidity does it not? can you say DIVIDEND CUT?!!!
.
in Illinois no less! "must be the wrong kind of political connections."
State of Illinois CMS received their 1,000,000th past-due notice and decided that was the last straw.
(1,000,000th is a conservative estimate.)
“To prohibit the use of unmanned aircraft systems by private individuals to conduct surveillance of other private persons.”
So we may still use a drone to conduct surveillance of legal and public entities. Seems fair.
illegal aliens is a YES. citizens arrest, we should all try it. i had to go thru HELL to be legal here in uh es ah!
1776 re-dux
There"s no such thing as a private person anymore.
Corporations :)
Drones are people too, my friends.
No, Drones for you..........
Better go to http://www.diydrones.com and order the kit before they make it illegal.
was taught as a young piglet not to do the finger-pointing thing.
Let the droning begin! Come on, guys, you know that our patriarchal leaders know what's best for us. I know that I raised 5 sons under the guiding principle: "Do as I say, not as I do". Hypocrisy, you say? Just remember what Dubya's press sec. said: "The American people better watch what they say"! Go ahead, Blobama, BOMBS AWAY! Wonder if there will be corporate advertising on domestic drones? CAPITAL IDEA!
Private drones spying on congress folks could be real useful for destroying them real fast or for black mail.
If you aren't doing anything wrong , you shouldn't have a problem with it.
If I ever do kill someone , it will most likely be the 10,000 person who has said this to me.
Government against the people, atop the people., and in spite of the people. If only it would perish from the earth !
I'll remind everyone again: drone tech is actually very useful to legitimate businesses (logging, infrastructure, geo-mapping etc), and should be fought tooth and nail for to allow Commercial Enterprises to use them (under guidelines, for sure).
Anyhow, it's not like you can't shoot down those prying eyes:
A suspected US drone has crashed in the southern Lower Shabelle region of Somalia, according to reports. The militant group al-Shabab said on Twitter that an American unmanned aircraft had come down near a town under its control. A regional governor told Reuters that fighters had shot at the object.
The US uses drones in Somalia to support the Somali government and African Union (AU) forces as they battle the al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabab. [BBC 28th May]
By the way, since no-one has added 1+1 here. The F-35 is obsolete because it has a pilot, not just because it's a massive boondoggle.
i actually like seeing some of the grafitti, but deutsche bahn is going to start using drones to catch the "artists" in the act...
I can't wait to see YouTube videos of how to hack these things before they're taken down and hosted elsewhere.
Since I'm being stalked by a junker, ask & you'll recieve.
There you go, you can now hack most commercially available drones on the market using a wifi router. Have fun!
So. Fucking. Free.
Reminds me of something John Mccain said a few weeks ago when discussing gun control on some news show...
“The purpose of the United States Senate is to debate and to vote and to let the people know where we stand.”
That statement is very scary to me.
That crusty old fuck is very scary to me.
How delovely." let you know where We will stand" and We The Pewople----do ordain this constitution for the Unued States of America." My, my haven't we come a looooooong way. The time is getting close. Milestones
double post
" “unmanned aircraft systems,”"
so, like does that mean 'unwomened aircraft systems' are ok?
more chardonnay anyone?
Two things that should be noted.
In the US, if you are involved in a self-defense shooting and *accidently* shoot and kill an innocent bystander, there is a whole lot of legal precedent supporting the stance that either the target you are shooting at will be charged with the murder, or you will get off entirely.
Are armed drones to be considered "arms" protected by the 2nd ammendment?
If you put these two together, technically you too should be able to get away with "collateral damage" as long as you can justify some form of "self defense". Go forth and start droning the shit out of people I guess.
They do not care about anyones privacy, what they are afraid of is large armed drones that could take out any politician just like obama whacks jihadis.
Revising Shakespeare:
First, kill all the lawyers. Then kill all the Congresspeople.
(In days of old, if the populace was truly informed, and not effete, anesthesized and apathetic as we are... 98% of Congress would've been dragged out of the capital building and guillotined. There are no words for their crimes, undeserved privileges, righteousness and treason. It makes the bile rise up into my throat. Our government has all the manifestations of a dying empire.)
