I don't think anyone would mind if you just clicked "edit" and changed the word in the original text. I'm sure someone could get bent out of shape if you changed the intent of the comment, but I hope everyone will think fixing typos is okay. I know that some blogs won't let you edit; apparently they trust us (at least sometimes) not to be stupid about it here.

A major player in the industrial military complex would agree that nothing has changed, because they don't want anything to change.

If/when things change, the major players are out of business.

To keep from giong out of business, the major players don't allow anything to change.

They make the rules and control the game.

Like the casino owners, they control the gaming and keep extracting $$$ from the masses...

All you can change is the way you do or don't do business with them.

What they don't know they can't control.

I explained to my dad the significance of the military industrial complex some time ago.   The cost of empire, I mean defense, approaches $1 trillion dollars a year.  I arrive at that figure by taking DOD spending and adding back 30% which was probably originally counted as DOD spending, then re-allocated by accountants.

When you can't reduce the cost of empire you can reduce the appearance of cost!

So any way, I explained to him, that is $1000 billion every year!  A lot of that money is paid to corporations.  And these corporations of course have an earnings multiple.  Putting the value of $1 trillion of defense spending at probably over $10 trillion of market capitalization!  And if you reduce spending...

We were all over Watergate.
After all Obama/Holder/etc.

Where is the action?

Fri, 06/07/2013 - 18:26 | 3635522 bank guy in Brussels
bank guy in Brussels's picture

The standard American story of 'Watergate' is a hoax ... The removal of US President Nixon was a stage-managed, military-CIA coup, only less bloody than the JFK removal by bullet in 1963.

So-called 'brave Watergate reporter' Bob Woodward - still selling lies and propaganda today - is a fraud and fake, he works for the military and CIA, and America's shadow government of ruling oligarch families.

In the late 1960s Bob Woodward was in the US Navy working for Naval Intelligence under Admiral Thomas Moorer. In 1970 Admiral Moorer became head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff - head of the whole US military - and Woodward theoretically left military intelligence to become a planted Washington Post 'reporter' as his new intelligence assignment. -

Also in 1970, Admiral Moorer started running a spy ring against the Nixon White House, with the US military thinking Nixon and Kissinger were getting 'soft on Communists' etc. Navy Yeoman Charles Redford stole many White House documents and so on for the joint chiefs, US Admiral Elmo Zumwalt getting some of the documents.

The spy ring - US military against the White House - was discovered at the end of 1971. But just like with the military 'business plot' planned coup in the 1930s against US President Franklin Roosevelt, exposed by US Marine General Smedley Butler ('War is a Racket'), and Roosevelt's agreement not to prosecute the American elite (including grand-pappy Bush) ... Nixon agreed to cover-up the military spy ring.

Likely fearing to end up dead like JFK, Nixon always feared to publicly denounce it for the rest of his life, tho did not deny it.

Despite Nixon's agreement to shut up and not prosecute, the military remained unhappy, along with the American elite, who wanted Nixon out  ... Nixon, for all his flaws, had come to the same conclusions as Jack Kennedy ... in other words, make some peace with the commies, and try to build a better life for Americans ... Amazingly, Nixon even tried to give everyone in the US European-style health insurance (his 'CHIP' programme - much better than Obamacare.)

So Watergate was magnified into a scandal for a coup, the Washington Post brave 'reporters' Woodward and Bernstein - with Woodward still loyal to his old boss Admiral Moorer ... they took Nixon down.

A major ally was the manipulative John Dean, Nixon's lawyer in the White House, working his own angles, and betraying Nixon to the coup plotters, and made a 'media darling' from among the Nixon gang, tho Dean maybe was the worst snake among the bunch.

And ever since, Bob Woodward's fake Washington Post - John Dean version of the Watergate 'story' has dominated. ... and the truth still basically squashed today, by the dominant media framework ... Nearly everybody believes Watergate was some kind of pro-populist 'exposé'.

A lot of the Watergate facts has come out from investigators Len Colodny and Robert Gettlin, a book 'Silent Coup' ... more detail on a website associated with them

"In no small way, Richard Nixon helped to create the Bush presidential dynasty.

What disposed Nixon so positively toward the Bushes? A little-known fact, certainly missing from the many splendid biographies of the thirty-seventh president, is the likely role of Poppy Bush’s father, Prescott, in launching Nixon’s own political career.

Beyond that, the depth and complexity of the ongoing relationship between Nixon and the Bushes, a relationship that spanned nearly three decades, has somehow eluded most historians. An index search of the name Bush in the major Nixon biographies—including even those published after George H. W. Bush rose to the presidency—finds at most a handful of mentions, and in some cases, none at all.

The long overlooked Nixon-Bush story is a tale filled with plots and counterplots, power lust and ego trips, trust and betrayal, strategic alliances and rude revenge. It has a kind of mythic circularity: the elite Bush clan created the “populist” Nixon so that a President Nixon could later play a major role in creating a Bush political dynasty. And finally, the trusted Bushes, having gotten where they wanted, could play a role in Nixon’s fall."

Nixon was scuttled by the PTB when he instituted price controls--his final bad move in a series of awful ones; the man, while demonstrably bright (he did understand who the PTB were very clearly, and hired Kissinger accordingly--unlike LBJ), just could never get over being Nixon, a guy from a humble Quaker background who never really fit in anywhere in the power sphere, a man always ill at ease in his own skin; the nervousness and sweating so evident that it was palpable in all TV appearances undoubtedly stemmed from this terminal unease.  When one contrasts this with Ike, who detested him, BTW, the differences are stunning.  Ike came from a similar humble Kansas background, but showed promise as a leader from his early years, graduating from West Point in 1915, and then becoming the head of Allied Forces in Europe during WWII, prior to the Presidency; Nixon never managed to get elected past Congressman before his elevation to the Vice Presidency.  Ike, despite a lack of sophisticated practice with emerging video techniques, always showed an assurance in speech and manner as if he were simply switching fatigues for a suit.

Should any of you care to look at the admittedly ageing videos, you will see that both Ike and Nixon were quite capable of speaking off text (and certainly without a teleprompter, which did not exist) during their political careers...Which, given today's fiasco, should give us all some serious pause for reflexion.

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgment of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
And I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again

Change it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fall that's all
But the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they all flown in the last war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
And I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
For I know that the hypnotized never lie

Do ya?

There's nothing in the street
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Is now the parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again

Even if all of this is true, I'm not sure I could ever trust Nixon just because of one fact alone.

He apparently tried to fix the price of gasoline below a maximum, as I recall, and I cannot support that.

If only price fixing were not tolerated in any US markets!!!

Except, I think, for one exception . . .

During WWII they apparently fixed the price of many rationed goods for the support of the war effort.  I cannot oppose doing something like that.  (Assuming I support the war and can see the benefit of the rationed item for winning the war.  Just don't forget, that is going to make that item scarce.)

Please..... no need to burgularize offices in the Watergate when you can listen in on every phoine call and read every e-mail.   Government can spy on anyone anytime. The media is under full control and spouts onlyscripted propaganda.  Any dissent is shut down  in short order - how long did OWS last?    The sheep are obedient and the 'silent majoprity' oblivious and very silent - those on the left and the right who qiuestion thigns are marginalized as 'nuts' and ignored by the media.  HOW LONG have we been at war now?    How many crimes have gone unprosecuted and unpunished - both war crimes and financial crimes?

Obama has continued the path Bush Cheney was following -  a path that's only gotten worse since Nixon.

The part about "funamentally transforming the country."

The "into what?" part was left to your imagination.

It's now a government-centric empire with strong fascist overtones, 1984-like surveilance and prosecution of it's own citizens, no respect for rule of law and naked power-grabbing among elites by the most thuggish methods possible.

Surprise!  Not what you imagined?  Well listen, he sure as shit didn't lie about it!  The US has definitely been "fundamentally transformed."

A question of means and ends, as long as this conflict between Oligachy and Democracy stays the issue in human society.

To the Oligarchy democracy is a means to achieve an end : their own perennial hold on power. So for them democracy is a facade behind which the party goes on. That the escalator ensures renewal of those who make it to the top is not questioned as there are no divine rulers, no blood lines. Being a member is based on merit; dominus and mercator being its two rules.

To the people democracy is an end. It ensures their freedom from serfdom. It keeps the Oligarchy at bay. But its unstable equilibrium as populism leads to decay, and back we go.

When a society cannot achieve balance in this social tension between two antagonistic classes then there is internal upheaval or external war. Always. Pax AMericana can decay like all other empires before it, but a new one will emerge.

We are in times when a new order will emerge. But it won't change the perennial conflict between Oligarchy and democracy. Whoever wins in this paradigm change; will find that things change so that they stay the same.

When social orders disappear and top down logic is no longer the issue then we will really have evolved to peer to peer age.

Big step like a trip to the moon.

Justice Department Fights Release of Secret Court Opinion Finding Unconstitutional Surveillance

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2013/06/justice-department-electroni...

This important case—all the more relevant in the wake of this week's disclosures—was triggered after Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), a member of the Senate intelligence committee, started crying foul in 2011 about US government snooping. As a member of the intelligence committee, he had learned about domestic surveillance activity affecting American citizens that he believed was improper. He and Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.), another intelligence committee member, raised only vague warnings about this data collection, because they could not reveal the details of the classified program that concerned them. But in July 2012, Wyden was able to get the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to declassify two statements that he wanted to issue publicly. They were:

* On at least one occasion the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court held that some collection carried out pursuant to the Section 702 minimization procedures used by the government was unreasonable under the Fourth Amendment.

* I believe that the government's implementation of Section 702 of FISA [the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act] has sometimes circumvented the spirit of the law, and on at least one occasion the FISA Court has reached this same conclusion.

O'bomba and Nixon are salesmen for the Trilateral Commission of the Rockefeller and Rothschild Zionism.

O'bomba and Nixon are the fall guys; precious overpaid pets of politics, the showbiz for ugly people.

Focus: who has profited most from endless war? The international financiers of old, the hateful Rockefellers and Rothschild zionism which selects politicians to run for national office worldwide wherever their central banks exist, all for their Internationale, their Monarchy, their Vatican, their Hofjuden, their New World Order....same as the old world order: feudalism.

They employ politicians to put a smiley face upon their money grubbing ways. They hate the Constitution and Bill of Rights most because the USA is their last hurdle before their New World Order fascist regime goes globalist.

Money is 24/7 color blind, global. Stand aside, munchkins. 3% were rebels defying the international financiers, and their hateful monarchist ways. Same today.

Maybe not, but in one fell swoop, Nixon took the USA off the Gold Standard.  That one move caused what we have today throughout the world; a fiat currency generation in which the value of everything is made up.  Employment numbers, inflation rates, net worth, GDP, you name it.   When you go off the Gold Standard, you are giving carte blanche to politicians to spend as much as they want forever!!!!  The farther you get away from the date in which the gold standard was abolished, the less your money will buy-FACT.  And everyone wonders why they have to work so hard so at the end of the day they have little or nothing to show for it.  Generally speaking, the scarcity of an item and the demand for it, (in this case the dollar), determines its value.  Thanks to the FED, dollars aren't scarce and banks are hoarding them because there's a lack of demand for those dollars and banks aren't going to make a penny off zero percent interest rates.

I would like the thank the posters here who explained what was actually going on with Watergate.  At the time I was very young and bought the party line that this episode showed "how the system works".  A few years later I read books like "The Powers that Be" that glorified the big media outlets and personalities.  It was a heady time with all the books being published exposing things from the past made people feel like the 4th estate was truly independent and the system of checks and balances was working well.  I watched the CBS evening news with my family, read the newspaper and felt well informed.

Decades later,  having lost the interest in "public affairs" that I had in hs and college, I would sometimes hear or about some of the media people that were prominent during that period.  And that's when I started scratching my head.  It seems as if the people who exposed Watergage ended up becoming very prominent.  And when it was discovered that "deep throat" was actually a government insider my internal bullshit meter push all the way into the red.  But I just couldn't connect the dots.  So I want to thank you guys again for explaining things.  The last vestiges of a main stream free press died with the "suicide" of san jose mercury news reporter Gary Webb who reported on the CIA/Contra connection to the crack cocaine epidemic in Southern California.
