President To Explain How Great ObamaCare Is (And Answer Questions) - Live Webcast

Tyler Durden's picture

As with pretty much everything in the current Schrodinger world in which we live, ObamaCare seems to both save and cost us more at the same time. We are sure Obama's address will explain the fair-and-balanced perspective on it, add some sugar on the payrolls report spin, and the Q&A (which surely our press will ask a little on NSA-related issues) and this should be fun...

re: Obama and Bradley Manning

"There is a curious inconsistency in a government which punishes aliens for not following their conscience in a given conflict, while penalizing its own citizens for following their conscience in the same kind of conflict. Apparently such a government holds the conscience of its own citizens in lower esteem than that of aliens."

This one sentence editorial appeared in the Peoria Journal Star  . . . . .

"A pen in the hand of this president is far more dangerous than a gun in the hands of 200 million law-abiding citizens."

Then Clint Eastwood added his words  . . . . .

"We Americans are so tired of being thought of as dumbasses by the rest of the world that we went to the polls this past November and removed all doubt."

I was just wondering how the 25 to 35 age group is going to pay for all of this when none of them have a job, and are sitting on 5 to 6 figure student loans?

Do they even know they have been selected to pay for all of this??

I particularly enjoy bringing up that little factoid when dealing with the angry youngsters.  It is quite apparent they do not know thay are footing the entire thing, ( with no job ).

So if they do get a job, they have to pay a considerable amount into the Obamacare program, which will be a large portion of their pay leaving them nearly destitute, with a job, where all of their pay goes to fund a useless medical program for fat, stupid, and lazy people.

Im ready, let's get it on!!!

LOL!!

One of my blood relatives goes to a major Ag school here on the Left Coast and he cannot believe the naivety of the student body... particularly thems from the coastal areas.  They seem to figure that the bennies of every sort, their rights, like the right to a job, etc., are boundless, endlessly bestowed upon them for free by "society" in all fairness and egalitarianism.

He is shocked.

We have a public-school and university indoctrination system that is hitting on all cylinders. These kids don't stand a chance, and most parents are either clueless, or wholeheartedly endorse the shit being pumped into their kids' brains because they think the same retarded way also.

The Cultural Marxists have a 60 year head start. What did you expect? Hell I didn't reverse my own social indoctrination programming until I was in my late 30s. The indoctrination techology is so far advanced beyond what I was subjected to, there is probably little hope for today's teenagers.

This is anecdotal evidence I realize, but both my 20-something children have good jobs and are ideologically more conservative/libertarian than their peers. Hmmm, I wonder if there is a correlation there.

I remember the fights my parents and older sister would have when she'd come home during her indoctrination.  I'd sit upstairs and listen, worried for her and amazed that there could be such a difference of opinion, even as I was ignorant of the things being argued.  It was a good thing for me though, because when I went off to college six years later I was aware in a way that I wouldn't otherwise have been.  I still fell for a lot of the crap that took years to reverse and I'm sure it is far worse today.

Obamacare is wholly based on the premise if you forcibly require all young "healthy" people to foot the bill of older sicker people (many of whom poor health is due to their own personal choices) the numbers will balance out. Anyone who is educated in basic math can see this is impossible. The way I see it there are few options for the young. One may be become sick and unemployable yourself. I know, not very attractive. Another is to hide out in the basement and become parasitic until your host dies. Hopefully you have an exit strategy in this scenario. A third may be to engage the underground world of income fraud and black markets. Good luck, I hope you can pull it off. Due to your infatuation with monitoring devices, this may be difficult. The last is the most painful. Total violent overthrowal of the entire system. Though the worst choice because of high casualties, those who survive would have the best chance of a good ending.

I know it's often popular here to scoff and denigrate the young as lazy and self absorbed but the way I see it most have lived highly regulated lives and never been allowed to experience being thrown in a swimming pool to figure out how to swim. They were TOLD they were special, not found out themselves though adversity and experience. I actually feel sorry for most of them. Being thrown into a swimming pool to learn how to swim is a universal life metaphor. We all must face it at some point. This has just been delayed for some. And when it does come, they have no life skills to handle it.

A winner is you! Only one question. About wiretaps.

It's good to see that both parties fully support monitoring all telecommunication.

No one is listening to the calls, just looking at what phone numbers you are calling, along with the time and duration of your calls. That's a relief. Oh, they need a judge to sign off to listen to the calls, that's nice.

As for email, they are only monitoring the email of everyone outside America. That's swell.

Maybe he 'splain to the wage slave why they have to juggle 3 part time jobs (with all that expensive commuting) just to make it. Starting to see why people are fat? That's a lot of time spend commuting to nothing jobs.

Mandating 80% spending on the patient does not prevent that 80% cost component from increasing as compaines that make bandaids and heart valves will still over charge for their products, thus, not reducing the costs to healthcare.

Somebody needs to point out to him that rates for every single private health plan in the United States have increased by at least four times the rate of medical inflation each of the last three years in anticipation of ObamaCare, and that there is no longer any possible way for this approach to save consumers money. Period.

Obamacare isnt about fixing healthcare.  The same number of people, around 30 million, will be without coverage post-Ocare as there were before.  In the meantime physicians will leave their practices, procedures will no longer be available, wait times will be extraordinary and we'll see a two-tier system: Those who have money will have good care; everyone else, get in line and wait.

That is what the people voted for in 2008 and 2012.

Eventually, they will outlaw the second tier of the system -- it will be essentially illegal to get health care outside of the govt system.

And I still think the John Roberts tortured decision on Obamacare was the biggest set back of many years (even more than the BHO re-election) -- for a variety of reasons.  If that decision had gone the other way (the most logical way), things would be notably different.   Not sure I can ever forgive Roberts.  The precedent he established will be devastating.

Obama is speaking on Obamacare because as they see it the time is short to get more states to accept Obamacare and the time is late for more Obamacare funding. But its his use of the California health exchange talking points that is so inherently dishonest.

When Covered California—the name for the state’s Obamacare-compatible insurance exchange—released their rates on May 23rd, they used a slieght of hand which Obama is fully aware of.

“The rates submitted to Covered California for the 2014 individual market,” the state said in a press release, “ranged from two percent above to 29 percent below the 2013 average premium for small employer plans in California’s most populous regions.”

That’s the sentence that led to all of the triumphant commentary from the left. “This is a home run for consumers in every region of California,” exulted Peter Lee.

Except that Lee was making a misleading comparison. He was comparing apples—the plans that Californians buy today for themselves in a robust individual market—and oranges—the highly regulated plans that small employers purchase for their workers as a group. The difference is critical.

Obamacare to double individual-market premiums

If you’re a 25 year old male non-smoker, buying insurance for yourself, the cheapest plan on Obamacare’s exchanges is the catastrophic plan, which costs an average of $184 a month. (By “average,” I mean the median monthly premium across California’s 19 insurance rating regions.)

The next cheapest plan, the “bronze” comprehensive plan, costs $205 a month. But in 2013, on eHealthInsurance dot com website , the median cost of the five cheapest plans was only $92.

In other words, for the typical 25-year-old male non-smoking Californian, Obamacare will drive premiums up by between 100 and 123 percent.

Under Obamacare, only people under the age of 30 can participate in the slightly cheaper catastrophic plan. So if you’re 40, your cheapest option is the bronze plan. In California, the median price of a bronze plan for a 40-year-old male non-smoker will be $261.

But on eHealthInsurance, the median cost of the five cheapest plans was $121. That is, Obamacare will increase individual-market premiums by an average of 116 percent.

For both 25-year-olds and 40-year-olds, then, Californians under Obamacare who buy insurance for themselves will see their insurance premiums double.

Dear Mother Fucker: You don't get to be the arbiter of a "balance" between security and privacy, the decision was made for you long ago:

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated,"

Seems definition of "unreasonable" has changed quite a bit.

Think of all the ways your privacy and property can be invaded now, and it's "reasonable" to the average judge.

When courts caved in, that was it for the constitution.  It's not upheld in any court anymore.

I guess we'll find out, but it sounds like he just takes all the conspiracy theories about 0bama and rolls them into a narrative from his "super-secret source." Anyone could make it up. There's not even any details whatsoever in his stories. I don't doubt what he says *could* be true, but it's hardly actionable intelligence.

Obama nailed it. It is the people we are electing that are allowing these things to happen, while pointing at Congress. Typically, he is not finger pointing at himself, although he shares the blame equally.

Just so you know I think things would have gotten even worse, faster under McCain. Ron Paul wasn't so awesome either but mjay have nixed these intrusions of privacy.

Once the nation knows there is no more privacy we all a nation of liars, harvesting feelings we can never let out.

It's simple. As New York's Yenta in Charge says :

“The people who are worried about privacy have a legitimate worry,” Bloomberg said during a press conference in Midtown.

“But we live in a complex word where you’re going to have to have a level of security greater than you did back in the olden days, if you will. And our laws and our interpretation of the Constitution, I think, have to change.”

This is for your own good, don't you SEE ?

ok, sensible question: #1 if employers are holding off on new hiring and holding back on total hiring for the future to cut back on Obamacare costs, is that good for the economy or bad?

Second sensible question: if faked numbers like GDP, inflation and "unemployment" (not labor participation!) are "good" then what incentive does government have (much less a plan) to do something better or reverse course?

I ask that because clearly if employers can't get by without X employee hours but must cut them all back to part-time then you'll have more poor working people and more people refusing to take part in this and use up EBT and unemployment payments from the government, leading to a loss of tax revenues AND a loss of harder-working experienced, THE FINAL end result is that you'll see unemployment numbers go DOWN while business are hurt AND tax revenues go DOWN. And they'll gladly say we've got a second recovery, green shoots and all is well.

In the urologist's examination room yesterday was a notice that the FDA has rescinded it's recommendation that PSA tests be utilized to detect early prostate cancer. The notice also pointed out the same sentiment for mammograms and that doctors should neither continue to train women in self examination. Therefore my understanding is that PSA tests and mammograms are no longer covered under insurance.

When I commented on the notice I cynically asked the doc if he thought big brother has our best interests at heart. He indicated that the policy change on mammograms and PSA tests alone set the medical practice of cancer detection back 20 years.

Im no socialist but can someone explain why a trip to ER should be billed for $11000 by the hospital to insurance ?

My wife had food poisoning due to some bad mayo/condiment at a restaurant. After hours of pain she went to ER.

They gave here 3 tests - blood, urine, CT scan to check appendix - gave her IV fluids, and pain medicines.

Bill - 200 out of pocket 11000 billed to insurance -

I was in India that time - cost in the best private hospital like Appollo group , Jaslok, etc (these are non subsidised hospitals privately run)

- CT scan in India costs as low as 1500 rupees and might go up to 5000 ($30 to $100)

- Saline fluid and IV drips cost between 1000-3000 INR (< $50 )

- Pain medication another $200

- Doctor fees ~ $20-50 x num times visited

total in INR should be about 10000 -> 200-250 USD

Even if you include the cost of high labor, malpractice insurance, etc : these services in US should not exceed $1500 -$2000

How the EFFF is it $11000?

PS: Subsidised government health care this would have cost only $2
