President To Explain How Great ObamaCare Is (And Answer Questions) - Live Webcast
As with pretty much everything in the current Schrodinger world in which we live, ObamaCare seems to both save and cost us more at the same time. We are sure Obama's address will explain the fair-and-balanced perspective on it, add some sugar on the payrolls report spin, and the Q&A (which surely our press will ask a little on NSA-related issues) and this should be fun...

Not quite the case.
Companies that sell to hospitals and make product, instruments and equipment used in hospitals for medical care, create a fake list price.
List pricing is typically 500% higher than actual pricing one might pay under contract. This illusional priceing started because (believe it or not) hosptial administrators were actually fooled by pricing discounts, very much like shoppers at JC Penny actually thought they were getting clothing discounts. (And look who got fired)
So, company Stryker comes in and lists all the hospital beds they are selling at $100k with a 40% discount so you can buy it at $60k.
Company OR Direct quotes the same deal at $55k, no discount.
Hospital will buy Stryker becuase;
"There must be some reason we got better equipment that's obviously better because it costs more"
and
"We did such a great job negotiating we were able to get them down 40% off their price!"
Eventually company OR Direct is forced to comply with misleading pricing tactics in order to stay in business, even if it's agaist good judgement. The hospital administrators will say flat out, "we cannot buy from you because you didn't offer a discount". "But, but, we were cheaper!" Doesn't matter.
It's all psychological mumbo jumbo. And if you don't have a contract, or in your case, are not a part of an insurance compact? Then you pay the make believe list price that was never intended to be used as an acutal purchase price in the first place.
Of this, 20% might be implied amonuts that redeem the costs of offering free medical care. But it's hardly a dent.
This is madness - (not Sparta) - I think the entire Medical-Lawyer-Industrial complex of America is destroying more lives than its saving.
If I get sick I am flying to India - Angioplasty only costs 200k INR ($5000) - retail PET scan costs $1000 - chemo is cheaper ... Return airfare to Mumbai is barely 1500$ . I am surprised Mexico (or Native American reservations) won't capitalize on this golden opportunity to get patients from US treated for less than 1/8th to 1/10th the cost.
the doctor also works at jiffy lube, the saline is pure water, the pill is a placebo, the cat scan is an xbox.. and in the process you get a free eye infection
Save the insults to yourself - I grew up in India - what you say may be true in the state-run hospitals of India - those are free of charge | the private ones in my home town Pune alone, the medical facilities in private hospitals as almost as good as here in US - except for cutting edge cancer treatment, etc- Lookup the websites of leading indian private medical institutions like Apollo, Jaslok, Ruby Hall, AIIMS. Any minor surgery in India will cost under 10k USD at world class facility.MRI start at $500 - have you seen what they bill those here ?
And also I am not lying - my Sister is a Radiologist MD practicing - and I have family members doctors and surgeons practicing. I am just not convinced how the cost of care can be so exorbitant for something that simple.
Also - Why havent they opened hospitals on (native) Indian reservation land - and see people there at real retail non monopolized price - instead of just running casinos ?
A: Health is not an insurable risk. Ask any competent actuary.
B: Costs will continue to rise as long as the medical/pharmaceutical monopolies are allowed to exist. No other industries are allowed to cost shift like medicine does.
C: Economics 101- make something "free" and more people will use it. More use/access does not lower cost in a regulated monopolistic market.

I just received a letter from ALLSUP (disability contractors) via the ex-corporate gulag that I retired from. One involved in the spying shit storm. Not being Medicare eligable, here's a sampling of the questions asked.
Did you retire due to a disability, or since you retired, have you developed a disabling condition?
Do you have a spouse/dependent that is currently disabled?

Here is all I know. I lost my awesome health care plan soon after Obamacare was enacted because the comany left the fucking business in the face of the piece of shit law. So rather than liking my plan and keeping my plan I lost my plan. Now with the shitty replacement plan I have with Aetna (who really does fail to pay claims) the premiums just jumped last month by 32%. Yep 32%. Motherfuckers. All as a rsult of this piece of shit law. I say that every motherfucker who had a hand in passing this piece of shit, from Obama to the asswipes in congress to that motherfucking piece of shit lying god damned bastard Roberts should have both eyes put out.
