The NSA's "Boundless Informant" Collects 3 Billion Intelligence Pieces From US Computer Networks In One Month
There's one reason why the administration, James Clapper and the NSA should just keep their mouths shut as the PRISM-gate fallout escalates: with every incremental attempt to refute some previously unknown facet of the US Big Brother state, a new piece of previously unleaked information from the same intelligence organization now scrambling for damage control, emerges and exposes the brand new narrative as yet another lie, forcing even more lies, more retribution against sources, more journalist persecution and so on.
The latest piece of news once again comes from the Guardian's Glenn Greenwald who this time exposes the NSA's datamining tool "Boundless Informant" which according to leaked documents collected 97 billion pieces of intelligence from computer networks worldwide in March 2013 alone, and "3 billion pieces of intelligence from US computer networks over a 30-day period."
This is summarized in the chart below which shows that only the middle east has more active NSA-espionage than the US. Also, Obama may not want to show Xi the activity heatmap for China, or else the whole "China is hacking us" script may promptly fall apart.
Using simple, non-AES 256 breaking math, 3 billion per month amounts to some 100 million intrusions into the US per day, or looked at from another perspective, just a little more than the "zero" which James Clapper vouched announced earlier today is the applicable number of US citizens falling under the NSA's espionage mandate: "Section 702 cannot be used to intentionally target any U.S. citizen, or any other U.S. person, or to intentionally target any person known to be in the United States." Oops.
But it gets worse for the NSA. As the Guardian reports, "Emmel, the NSA spokeswoman, told the Guardian: "Current technology simply does not permit us to positively identify all of the persons or locations associated with a given communication (for example, it may be possible to say with certainty that a communication traversed a particular path within the internet. It is harder to know the ultimate source or destination, or more particularly the identity of the person represented by the TO:, FROM: or CC: field of an e-mail address or the abstraction of an IP address). Thus, we apply rigorous training and technological advancements to combine both our automated and manual (human) processes to characterize communications – ensuring protection of the privacy rights of the American people. This is not just our judgment, but that of the relevant inspectors general, who have also reported this."
In other words, Americans are absolutely the target of billions of monthly intrusions, but said data "mining" is exempted because it is difficult to identify in advance if a US citizen is implicated in any metadata chain.
Only it isn't as it is the whole premise behind Boundless Informant.
An NSA factsheet about the program, acquired by the Guardian, says: "The tool allows users to select a country on a map and view the metadata volume and select details about the collections against that country."
The focus of the internal NSA tool is on counting and categorizing the records of communications, known as metadata, rather than the content of an email or instant message.
The Boundless Informant documents show the agency collecting almost 3 billion pieces of intelligence from US computer networks over a 30-day period ending in March 2013. One document says it is designed to give NSA officials answers to questions like, "What type of coverage do we have on country X" in "near real-time by asking the SIGINT [signals intelligence] infrastructure."
Under the heading "Sample use cases", the factsheet also states the tool shows information including: "How many records (and what type) are collected against a particular country."
A snapshot of the Boundless Informant data, contained in a top secret NSA "global heat map" seen by the Guardian, shows that in March 2013 the agency collected 97bn pieces of intelligence from computer networks worldwide.
Iran was the country where the largest amount of intelligence was gathered, with more than 14bn reports in that period, followed by 13.5bn from Pakistan. Jordan, one of America's closest Arab allies, came third with 12.7bn, Egypt fourth with 7.6bn and India fifth with 6.3bn.
Next up: more NSA lies of course.
The disclosure of the internal Boundless Informant system comes amid a struggle between the NSA and its overseers in the Senate over whether it can track the intelligence it collects on American communications. The NSA's position is that it is not technologically feasible to do so.
At a hearing of the Senate intelligence committee In March this year, Democratic senator Ron Wyden asked James Clapper, the director of national intelligence: "Does the NSA collect any type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans?"
"No sir," replied Clapper.
Judith Emmel, an NSA spokeswoman, told the Guardian in a response to the latest disclosures: "NSA has consistently reported – including to Congress – that we do not have the ability to determine with certainty the identity or location of all communicants within a given communication. That remains the case."
Other documents seen by the Guardian further demonstrate that the NSA does in fact break down its surveillance intercepts which could allow the agency to determine how many of them are from the US. The level of detail includes individual IP addresses.
IP address is not a perfect proxy for someone's physical location but it is rather close, said Chris Soghoian, the principal technologist with the Speech Privacy and Technology Project of the American Civil Liberties Union. "If you don't take steps to hide it, the IP address provided by your internet provider will certainly tell you what country, state and, typically, city you are in," Soghoian said.
...
At a congressional hearing in March last year, Alexander denied point-blank that the agency had the figures on how many Americans had their electronic communications collected or reviewed. Asked if he had the capability to get them, Alexander said: "No. No. We do not have the technical insights in the United States." He added that "nor do we do have the equipment in the United States to actually collect that kind of information".
Turns out they do, and that perjury in the US is now merely another facet of the "New Normal." Plus what difference does it make that yet another member of the most transparent administration perjured themselves. Then again, when the head of the Department of Justice is being investigated for lying to Congress under oath, one can only laugh.
That laughter risks becoming an imbecilic cackle when reading the following veiled threat to the Guardian from the NSA's Judith Emmel: "The continued publication of these allegations about highly classified issues, and other information taken out of context, makes it impossible to conduct a reasonable discussion on the merits of these programs."
In other words, the best discussion is one that would simply not take place as reporters should promptly stop actually reporting, and fall back to their New Normal role of being access journalists to important people (see Andrew Ross Sorkin's rise to fame on... nothing) with zero critical insight or investigative effort. Or else...

I broke into my Bjork NSA marathon and let them watch the Cowardly Lion, I'm sure it was a bit of a relief ....... now back to Bjork.
"NSA has consistently reported – including to Congress – that we do not have the ability to determine with certainty the identity or location of all communicants within a given communication. That remains the case."
Yes, it does remain the case that NSA consistently reports that. There is so much weasel talk now that you have to assume what is really going on is pretty damn big.
Given that the trans-Pacific fiber optic cables (mostly) go through Japan, and Japan has very high per-capita internet/cell/VOIP penetration- the NSA seems to have a peculiar ability for identifying ignoring the huge data sets they would be collecting, if in fact, they were telling the truth.
Your ISP knows who you are. If I had access to their servers, I could profile you.
if we get a big fucking market crash monday, would everyone forget about this?
That's the when this stuff was really designed for. Not Now.
It's purpose is for AFTER the collapse that they know is coming. All the spying, Patriot act, etc. has been put in place to deal with the populace AFTER the collapse. When "Order" has to be kept.
I've been thinking lately what the Collapse really is. The Fall, so to speak.
I don't believe the Collapse is a failing in the monetary system somewhere: falling stocks, defaults, too much money creation, or even anything to do with derivatives and myriad fraud therein.
The real collapse is the awakening of a critical mass to the fraud OF the monetary system itself. That maybe chasing money, created for us as a substitute for actual wealth, will finally be known widely for what it is. That the Collapse is a nexus in our evolution toward freedom and peace.
One can dream.
Very good. THAT would be a collapse in their eye.
me too.
The NSA is artificially keeping the markets and oil up at elevated levels, as they know that the volicity of money continues to go down and the government fears deflation.
Upon visiting their site, computers & security are gaged as a mystery. Don’t worry folks. NSA awaits the next NYT news bulletin generated by Google.

If someone should repeat the {AP Twitter HACKED: ‘Explosions in White House, Obama Injured’}
The Google computer system will prepare news stories to offset triggered panic selling in HFT seconds. We simply live a illusional world. This same fake news can be repeated to confirm news/stock market manipulation.
Isn't that right Janet?

It all started when our cliché, protagonist figure, Barack Obama, woke up in a lemur-infested moor. It was the fifth time it had happened. Feeling very displeased, Barack Obama slapped a ninja star, thinking it would make him feel better (but as usual, it did not). Giggling like schoolgirl, he realized that his beloved Bill of Rights was missing! Immediately he called his annoying neighbor, Ben Bernanke. Barack Obama had known Ben Bernanke for (plus or minus) 20 years, the majority of which were electric ones. Ben Bernanke was unique. He was clever though sometimes a little... abrasive. Barack Obama called him anyway, for the situation was urgent.
Ben Bernanke picked up to a very unctuous Barack Obama. Ben Bernanke calmly assured him that most albino cats grimace before mating, yet disease-carrying chipmunks usually surreptitiously yawn *after* mating. He had no idea what that meant; he was only concerned with distracting Barack Obama. Why was Ben Bernanke trying to distract Barack Obama? Because he had snuck out from Barack Obama's with the Bill of Rights only eleven days prior. It was an exotic little Bill of Rights... how could he resist?
It didn't take long before Barack Obama got back to the subject at hand: his Bill of Rights. Ben Bernanke panicked. Reluctantly, Ben Bernanke invited him over, assuring him they'd find the Bill of Rights. Barack Obama grabbed his giraffe and disembarked immediately. After hanging up the phone, Ben Bernanke realized that he was in trouble. He had to find a place to hide the Bill of Rights and he had to do it fearlessly. He figured that if Barack Obama took the 'modded' Civic, he had taken at least two minutes before Barack Obama would get there. But if he took the Constitution? Then Ben Bernanke would be exceedingly screwed.
Before he could come up with any reasonable ideas, Ben Bernanke was interrupted by eleven abrasive Bears that were lured by his Bill of Rights. Ben Bernanke panicked; 'Not again', he thought. Feeling pleased, he skillfully reached for his wolverine and fearlessly punched every last one of them. Apparently this was an adequate deterrent--the discouraged critters began to scurry back toward the disease-infested jungle, squealing with discontent. He exhaled with relief. That's when he heard the Constitution rolling up. It was Barack Obama.
As he pulled up, he felt a sense of urgency. He had had to make an unscheduled stop at Texaco to pick up a 12-pack of dangerous oil-soaked rags, so he knew he was running late. With a quick leap, Barack Obama was out of the Constitution and went surreptitiously jaunting toward Ben Bernanke's front door. Meanwhile inside, Ben Bernanke was panicking. Not thinking, he tossed the Bill of Rights into a box of live hand grenades and then slid the box behind his hammock. Ben Bernanke was stunned but at least the Bill of Rights was concealed. The doorbell rang.
'Come in,' Ben Bernanke indiscriminately purred. With an apt push, Barack Obama opened the door. 'Sorry for being late, but I was being chased by some clueless social outcast in a time machine,' he lied. 'It's fine,' Ben Bernanke assured him. Barack Obama took a seat excruciatingly close to where Ben Bernanke had hidden the Bill of Rights. Ben Bernanke turned red trying unsuccessfully to hide his nervousness. 'Uhh, can I get you anything?' he blurted. But Barack Obama was distracted. Ever so extemporaneously, Ben Bernanke noticed an oafish look on Barack Obama's face. Barack Obama slowly opened his mouth to speak.
'...What's that smell?'
Ben Bernanke felt a stabbing pain in his armpit when Barack Obama asked this. In a moment of disbelief, he realized that he had hidden the Bill of Rights right by his oscillating fan. 'Wh-what? I don't smell anything..!' A lie. An abrasive look started to form on Barack Obama's face. He turned to notice a box that seemed clearly out of place. 'Th-th-those are just my grandma's bananas from when she used to have pet long-haired sea monkeys. She, uh...dropped 'em by here earlier'. Barack Obama nodded with fake acknowledgement...then, before Ben Bernanke could react, Barack Obama aimlessly lunged toward the box and opened it. The Bill of Rights was plainly in view.
Barack Obama stared at Ben Bernanke for what must've been ten minutes. Just as zero people expected Ben Bernanke groped charismatically in Barack Obama's direction, clearly desperate. Barack Obama grabbed the Bill of Rights and bolted for the door. It was locked. Ben Bernanke let out an enchanting chuckle. 'If only you hadn't been so protective of that thing, none of this would have happened, Barack Obama,' he rebuked. Ben Bernanke always had been a little oafish, so Barack Obama knew that reconciliation was not an option; he needed to escape before Ben Bernanke did something crazy, like... start chucking live hand grenades at him or something. With fist clenched and teeth gnashed, he gripped his Bill of Rights tightly and made a dash toward the window, diving headlong through the glass panels.
Ben Bernanke looked on, blankly. 'What the hell? That seemed excessive. The other door was open, you know.' Silence from Barack Obama. 'And to think, I varnished that window frame seven days ago...it never ends!' Suddenly he felt a tinge of concern for Barack Obama. 'Oh. You..okay?' Still silence. Ben Bernanke walked over to the window and looked down. Barack Obama was gone.
Just yonder, Barack Obama was struggling to make his way through the fantastic pumpkin patch behind Ben Bernanke's place. Barack Obama had severely hurt his ear during the window incident, and was starting to lose strength. Another pack of feral bears suddenly appeared, having caught wind of the Bill of Rights. One by one they latched on to Barack Obama. Already weakened from his injury, Barack Obama yielded to the furry onslaught and collapsed. The last thing he saw before losing consciousness was a buzzing horde of Bears running off with his Bill of Rights.
About eight hours later, Barack Obama awoke, his kidney throbbing. It was dark and Barack Obama did not know where he was. Deep in the broad secret vineyard, Barack Obama was very lost. Suddenly inspired by the wise teachings of Confucius, he remembered that his Bill of Rights was taken by the Bears. But at that point, he was just thankful for his life. That's when, to his horror, a huge Bear emerged from the imaginary desert. It was the alpha Bear. Barack Obama opened his mouth to scream but was cut short when the Bear sunk its teeth into Barack Obama's love handle. With a faint groan, the life escaped from Barack Obama's lungs, but not before he realized that he was a failure.
Less than seven miles away, Ben Bernanke was entombed by anguish over the loss of the Bill of Rights. 'MY PRECIOUS!!' he cried, as he reached for a sharpened carrot. With an apt thrust, he buried it deeply into his kidney. As the room began to fade to black, he thought about Barack Obama... wishing he had found the courage to tell him that he loved him. But he would die alone that day. All that remained was the Bill of Rights that had turned them against each other, ultimately causing their demise. And as the dew on melancholy sapling branches began to reflect the dawn's reddish glare, all that could be heard was the chilling cry of distant Bears, desecrating all things sacred to virtuous men, and perpetuating an evil that would reign for centuries to come. Our heroes would've lived unhappily ever after, but they were too busy being dead. So, no one lived forever after, the end. :'(
FUCK YOU BERNANKE!!!
Put it on the big screen!
Crowd source the money needed to computer animate it!
At least collaborate with WmBanzai to create a YouTube of this!
My favorite part was "aimlessly lunged", thoroughly enjoyed.
A system of government that stands on a foundation of perpetual lies is beginning to teeter as the leaks in various administrative areas continue to open. All this exposure is good news! The more the merrier. There is no better way to undermine such a distorted evolution of government than to have the leaks keep opening. The Emperor has no clothes. Once a critical mass of public awareness comes online, such a system, no matter how seemingly powerful, will collapse under its own false premise. Trust this process and support those who are presenting the leaks. There are still people in high enough places who have their hearts and minds in the right place. Darkness does not exist in the light of truth, and the darkest time is just before dawn
No question. Socialism is a temple lies that can never stand for very long.
So... what's going to happen when everyone finds out about ECHELON, which the EU has alleged to be involved in corporate espionage, and which appears to be directed at intercepting literally every communication -- to me that seems far worse than everything exposed in this recent "leak". And it has been publicly acknowledged in the media before.
For example, it was mentioned in regard to the recent case involving Kim Dotcom in New Zealand:
"The top-secret international spy ring known as Echelon will have to reveal whether it received details of illegal spying on Kim Dotcom. The order for the intelligence network to reveal its secrets comes after a new judgment into the bungled handling of the case against the alleged internet pirate. The case is now aimed at the heart of New Zealand's intelligence arrangements."
(From the New Zealand Herald, December 2012)
It's got to start somewhere, they are warming us up for Echelon, just like one new scandal per week for now or is it day? Something about domino's in Japan...
There's already a public report by the EU on Echelon.
http://www.europarl.europa.eu/sides/getDoc.do?type=REPORT&reference=A5-2001-0264&format=XML&language=EN
From 2001.
Seriously, everyone knows about ECHELON. Not even the Europeans managed to do anything about it, and it looks like the Dutch were even helping with it. That report also lists which European countries were even back then intercepting traffic, sorted into foreign, state, and civilian communications; everyone's been intercepting as much as possible, unless they're too poor to do so (Ireland) or too small (Luxemburg) not to let their neighbors do it for them.
And the fact that these fucking vermin would name the program "Boundless Informant" is just more evidence that they simply LOVE what they're doing and that they should therefore be rounded up with their families and GASSED. Fire up the locomotives...
FU NSA
Dude...that's it. You should start your own organization that spies on the NSA, DHA, etc....and call it FUNSA.
In case you missed it the first time...

the reprobates in congress must be sweating right about now
I am think this is all a misdirection to distract people while they push amnesty. If they get amnesty then the police state and ObaCare are probably permanent.
the reprobates in congress must be sweating right about now
They are more thoroughly PWNed than you and me. PRISM has the dirt on every one of them.
They will say what they're told to say, and continue funding the black budget without a peep of protest.
My biggest problem with all this is I just can't keep enough popcorn in stock.
You do know, don't you, that the lovely Michelle Obama doesn't want you eating that greasy shit?
It's genetically modified popcorn so it has the FDA's stamp of approval.

The funny thing about this whole thing, all of the scandals, is if you are a sheeple and primarily get your "news" from the propaganda media, you would not really know much or how serious it all is. You might even think that it's really no big deal after Leno poked fun at it all. "If Leno's not worried then what do I have to be worried about?!"
Wait until the next version of the Affordable Care Act, entitled, the Fun for All Camping Act, "Because everyone should go 'camping' whether they want to or not."
Oooooh. Will there be a Camping With the Stars show? Or are they excused from the camping trip?
"Compulsory Camping" - to get the populace used to a further diminution of their living standards - "Sorry, your home's now repossessed - you'll have to move to the Tent City (along with everyone else)"

Where can I purchase a large roll of that yellow "crime-scene" tape to encircle the White House in Washington, District of Columbia, USA?
Oh man, you're gonna need a shit ton of crime scene tape, because you also have to encircle each branch of the Fed, each TBTF bank, each house that was sold to a person who couldn't possibly afford it, each college that peddles worthless degrees for Black Studies and History of Feminism with a price tag of 100K, each alternative energy factory that took a brib---, er, "grant" from the Feds...
Go long on crime scene tape is the most useful thing anybody can get from this post.

Is it still okay to say "Fuck Bernanke" on the internet, or will that get me flagged?
That ship has sailed... Americans speaking out against this tyrannical govt. have already been flagged.. Guess Obama is paranoid that Americans are waking up to the fraud.. He can't have that now can he?
Flagged? Dude, there's already a locker with your name, SS#, and camper ID # on it. Inside you'll find a disc with your profile on it, along with findings and "suggested" remedial course of action for you.
I sure hope my suggested remedial course of action takes place in Room 101. I'm really curious about what my biggest fear is in the minds of da gubmint. With my luck, I'll get to Room 101 and be greeted by The Bernanke wearing nothing but a smile and some garters.
Okay then. FUCK BERNANKE!
If they ever implement facecrime, I'm dead.

Don't forget to file your annual income with the IRS -- remember, US citizens are required to file taxes with the IRS regardless of residency or source, because the services your government provides you are indispensable and you benefit from the protection of the US both extraterritorially and extraterestrially.

Probably the same schmuck that's porking Zuckerbooger!
The US government and the Obamanation morons, even the out of touch clueless fucking banksters hijacking this country and plundering and pillaging us, forget we are still the most heavily armed populace on the face of the Earth. Once they take away our guns we will be the sheep they want us to be. They will have complete control over us. Until then we need to remind ourselves just how f'ing important now more than ever guns are. I'm not talking about grandpa's f'ing pea shooter hunting rifle or grandma's shotgun. I'm talking built fully auto AK's, AR's, street sweepers. We need ex soldiers to start stepping up to the plate and seeing our government for what it is. An affront on the American people. On justice, both economic and legal. On liberty. On the Constitution. As long as we have GED retards along with MIT geniuses willing to go sign up, fight, and die or sit behind the walls of the Pentagon the people of the US will never have power over government.
Guns, Guns, and more guns. Because when the time comes........your average joe is going to f'ing snap! And Snap hard! Cops better watch out! And every lackey government f'ing employee from the IRS to the USDA better watch their f'ing back!
LOL How's that NSA! Go fuck yourself you f'ing goons! You all shit just like everyone else assholes! I mean these guys are our neighbors, or that guy standing in line buying coffee at Starbucks. That's what gets me! Don't these pricks working for the government at any or all levels see what they are doing to help destroy their country? Or do they just not give a fuck?
And we're going to stay that way.
There will be no surrender of firearms in America.
Period.
It blows my mind how many guns are out there. And not in criminal hands. Just the average law abiding, tax paying, middle class white guy's hands! I count 10 people I know of right now that you would NEVER think have a class III license with a shit ton of crap like supressed MP5s etc. Crazy shit! These politicians are so out of touch with the average American. I hope the police realize who they would be up against if push came to shoving a big turd up Obama's orea cookie ass of a government! Your average cop is outgunned and outnumbered if it ever came down to it. Probably half the Marines I know would defect as well! Sames goes for the Spec Op guys. Our government is clueless just how sick and tired a lot of our service members our with their games. Cops are a different breed. You talk to them and they still have their head up their ass when it comes to what's going on.
These leaks appear to be an intel revolt against the murderous elite scum who have hijacked our country.
beep beep beep
Maybe some intel guys are getting tired of having to turn over their work product to Israel.
Ask the woman you know how many of them are getting guns for special days? Birthdays, Anniversaries, Valentine's Day, Christmas, etc.. Think you will be surprised by the answers!
The enemy is within, proceed with caution!
God bless all law-abiding cops for the work do which is allowed under the US Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Not all cops.
I know about 50 in my area alone who do not even think Dick is a legit prez.
Since 2009, they have stocked up, too.
"The Law" still applies.
If they could only get rid of the guns!
I forgot, they are working on it!
We've seen alot of crazy shit in the past few decades, but this is literally beyond belief.

Obama can't Clapper while Holdering his Bernanke.
Look I had a brilliant idea along time ago (which of my ideas aren't brilliant?).
Start a friggin Facebook like social network call it freedomnet libertynet sovereignnet, whatever, and seriously right in the "terms" explain that the data is being offered to any and all spy agencies. In fact, document that you are literally offering the backend of the server to whatever spy agency wants it.
You get the idea. We know you spy on everything, we hide nothing, we own this fucking Country and we are spying on you fuckwits! Take what you want. Offer you driving records, have cameras in your bath room. Go on record that you dont give a fuck, or that you do give a fuck , but you are providing the information and if you are held for any unconstitutional reason, this network will document that.
Invert the fucking perversion! Win the game.
clever, and let's add to it massive coordinated civil disobedience
Any coincidence that the companies that are complicit in the government sponsored spy program of ALL Americans pay almost NO tax?
This is fascism folks.
Great point.
Some free market numb-nuts was on here earlier trying to defend Google and Apple, as if they care about their users, there was a free market, and this was all "manageable".

This is for sure not only being used for 'terrorism' but also for industrial spionage. Not only on adversaries but also on allies.
Not only that, but since our dear leaders have access to the take, it would not be a far stretch of the thought process that our incumbent senators would also have access to the data targeting their political rivals.
Methinks THIS LITTLE STINKING PIECE OF GARBAGE is what eventually got BS/BHO elected.
We need to tear apart and root out down to the lowest levels these secret bullshit government organizations. They have to go!
Why would you want to do industrial espionage? That's child's play. Why steal only a few billion when you have a chance to steal the greatest nation of all history?
The 2nd Amendment was written to protect citizens from an over reaching government.
My guess is that any form of gun control is deader than Kelsey's nuts. Rightfully so.

Yeah? How's that working out for ya?
LOL
"Clapper said in his statement that the disclosures about the program "risk important protections for the security of Americans."
Problem is, for you, Clapper M'fer, is that there are no people in America left that believe a Nazi M'Fn globalist like you, a freakin criminal enemy terrorist against the United States of America, is trying to do anything except destroy the United States of America and its constitution.
Go put yourself into a torture chamber and set the power on high.
People like Clapper don't realize the American people don't want this form of security. What the hell good is security without being free or without liberty. It's worthless because it's in the end simply tyranny and that's where we are headed if not there already. No thanks. I'll vote to unplug the whole damn mess.
" when it becomes serious, you have to lie."
"when you have to lie, it must be serious"
3 billion Intelligent Pieces of information?
Okay, I'm throwing the bullshit flag!!!
3 billion is childs play for the new "big data" platforms. My favorite is Palantir, look up their website their software can easily algo-sift through billions of data items in a day.
Palantir? That is amazing. In attempting to get some info you provide MORE INFO to "the enemy" (talking Tolkein's "the enemy").
Same way (it seems to me) Bloomberg got rich. If you know what a particular group is researching you know how to front run them.
They collect so much data that it becomes useless, but then again, I am sure the data is searchable to allow one's enemies to be targeted with malice!
2.5 billion have got to be text messages between 12 year olds.
What Barak should have done to really clinch his victory in 2012 is tap Mitt Romney's cell phone, and the phones of his staff, and also have people reading all their emails. Imagine how much easier it would be to win if you were inside your opponent's head in an election without your opponent knowing you were spying on him. This tactic could have really helped Barak prepare for the 2nd and 3rd debates.
Plus instead of relying on phone surveys, he should have just tapped the phones of voters and listened to them talk to their friends to find out what they really think. This would eliminate the problem of people refusing to respond to surveys.
And then he should have sicked the EPA, IRS and DOJ on the republican base, especially targeting the big donors.
All the above steps could have helped him have a much stronger victory than he did. Of course, Barak would NEVER do such things, because he knows then that people wouldn't trust him.
Well done.
Call in to a famous radio host on Monday and suggest the same.
Of course this Assumes that they were running Against each other as in a Race.
Instead of what it was. An exhibition Match like the Harlem Globetrotters vs the Washington Generals.
Bluffdale, Utah, a very apt name,....when the going gets tough, just bluff....as practised by silicon valley execs and kenyan goat herders
Karl Marx was right, and we are in a historical moment that is a farce.
I remember a few years ago when so many undersea fiber optic cables, mostly in the middle east, went down one after the other in a somewhat rapid succession all of which were attributed to anchor dragging events or whatnot. There was at the time some discussion about the whereabouts of SSN-23 (she was not at home). Then there was this event a couple of months ago when the Egyptians caught a group of operatives with an inflatable and diving gear apparently cutting a cable on their coast. (identity and origin of the participants never revealed as near as I have been able to determine). Then I see this article with it's map and very big numbers and realize that this whole thing isn't just big, it's really, really big.
Billions and trillions don't scale well in the human mind.
The photo below is from a tiny country the size of Maryland, with a smaller population than New York City, which does not even have a space program (ex satellites) and doesn't fight wars.
And that's just SATELLITE signal intercept infrastructure at ONE site, not fiberoptic, cellular or HF radio.
Now scale that for a population almost 40 times the size with military troops actively deployed in over xxx countries...

They called out inspector generals to back their claims that they were not targeting innocent Citizens. Most inspector generals know next to nothing about advanced computer systems, especially this system. Look at the political moron hack inspector general at the IRS that was one of Mooochelles affirmative action class "mates".
One should only discuss secret things in secret, because they're secret, duh!
It's kind of like the brain, dreaming. The amygdala can only communicate with the cerebrum "secretly" or at a sub conscious level. The result, a "nightmare".
Same thing here.
Did you know that you endogenously synthesize controlled hallucinogens every time you sleep?
"Look out kid, because there's something that you did, kid...look out kid, because they keep it all hid"
The fact that we're not seeing anyone resign or any calls for impeachment, tells us that Washington is completely out of control. There's no shame. And there's no one even willing to score easy political capital slamming these people.
Directing a spokesperson to lie for you needs to be crime. Misinforming this person and then having them relay that misinformation is the same as you lying.
So if you're not going to impeach Obama. I say get rid of the entire justice department. And NSA and CIA.
And this is not out of context: you were not to spy on Americans and did. You've demonstrated you can't keep the law faithfully and that it's really impossible based on what you're doing to not violate the Constitution wholesale. The NSA should cease to exist.
Directing a spokesperson to lie for you needs to be crime. Misinforming this person and then having them relay that misinformation is the same as you lying. ...
In a sense it’s still refreshing to see an outcry over the act of lying in the US and UK. It says they are still vestiges of Christianity in the populace. However, this sense of ridicule over someone that has the capability to blatantly lie is actually viewed as a virtue by the opponents to those with a faith in Christ. Worshippers of Allah have codified the practice through taqiyya and kitman from the 7th century and have become artful practitioners of the trade.
The tendency to hide one’s religious affiliation has been around for thousands of years but Christianity generally frowns on the practice. Peter did so the night of Jesus’ trial and he was afterwards sick for having done so. This is not the case with others that see the Christian practice of speaking the truth in the face of persecution as a key weakness of the faith.
These are foundational issues of religion which are interesting to see develop in the current events of the day. I hope it results in a renewed interest to true reasoned faith and not the superficial reasoning against reason many Christian leaders submit as piety in their claims to “take the leap of faith” or “let go and let God”.
The creator would do nothing so ridiculous as not leaving evidence to his creatures of something as important as actually being able to exercise reason to know a creator is responsible for our being. Imo.
Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong. - 2 Corinthians 12:10
Problem is we as a people have lost the ability to respond. Our nation is big and extremely fragmented. We are left with very few ways to respond in unison.
I have thought this over quite a bit and it seems as though we just don't have the tools at our disposal to respond and have an impact.
This government is wildly out of control--and HUGE. I cannot even go out for an afternoon without running into two dozen cops, homeland security folks, general government employees, etc. They are everywhere--and we are paying them!
Oh we could respond all right and we could effect it using the internet but they're DEFINITELY NOT GOING TO LET THAT HAPPEN. That's what all this is about.
Well for Christ's sake, stop lending so much (or any) credence to what that hugely histrionic teeny whiny weenie Glen Greenwald has to say? Hmm??

For the average citizen, the spies can easily identify who they are, from e-mail metadata. Many ISPs inject the sender's IP Address into every e-mail that passes thru their servers and will often refuse to desist, even if a customer realises it and asks them. In these cases, it is very likely that not only is the metadata retrieved by the spies but the 'body' too (e-mail contents), although they claim this is not so. They are lying.
The problem for the spies begins with the armies of spammers - especially in the US and Asia - who exercise significantly more control over the metadata content of their cursed e-mails. Their e-mails are regularly distributed by hopping and they use a lot of spam-bots (innocent users who's PCs have become unknowingly infected with malware which spews out spam in their name and thru their ISP, so it looks like it comes from them).
Then of course there's the really bad guys. These people are invariably up-to-date with masking techniques and one can assume that real terrorists cover their tracks in various ways.
So this raises the question of why the NSA et al are spending vast sums of taxpayers' money to harvest all this data when it is of limited use to them. The most is can tell them is info about the volumes of data flowing at any particular time, which can mean that something is about to happen. I think they call this "chatter".
Snitches... a dying breed.
Death sentence convicts...a dying breed.
Na, they get to spend 20-30 cushy years appealing the conviction. all on your dime.
Go ahead and sniff my underwear...
I can find out where you live too, Mr. NSA.
They might want to give a thought about people publishing some home addresses and discovering that privacy invasions can have consequences.
Right on.
This is an excellent act of retaliation against the political filth and their spies. Get names/home addresses and publish them online. Home moves become unavoidable ...or live in fear like the rest of us.
But wait a minute, WE elected this filth. We have seen the enemy and it is us.
I certainly agree that many of "us" (as in citizens, generally) are part of the enemy, but I would not include most ZH readers in that group....perish the thought :-)
One can also be paralyzed with information overload, I hope they collect so much information, they are drowned by it.
And the spin continues. Opinion piece on CNN: They're tracking me? Big deal
On UK TV this morning, the BBC's No.1 Sunday propaganda mouthpiece Andrew Marr[*] conveniently gave the British Foreign Secretary William Hague a platform to explain to us knaves (in a rather condescending tone) that if the government were to reveal details of all the secret intelligence collection techniques used by GCHQ, it would defeat the object. He declined to confirm or deny whether GCHQ had made use of PRISM data. That's alright then.
Not to worry, we still await the report demanded from GCHQ by MPs to explain whether it has used PRISM data since July/2010 as The Guardian claims. That will be an exercise in obfuscation and dancing on pinheads, viz: "Everything we do is necessary, legal and proportionate". Obviously it will contain no explanation of its alleged involvement in the murder of one of its own spies 20 months ago: Gareth Williams, found murdered in a MI6 secure, safe house in London. His naked body found inside a large locked luggage holdall. The Met Police investigations have come to nought. Or they were told to back-off, I'm not sure which. Gareth Williams was allegedly angry with his bosses at GCHQ when he discovered that a case he was working on was in fact a sting operation set-up by MI5 to generate some sort of false terror plot in London.
Meanwhile, Sky News is still running on the condition of Prince Phillip, he's still in hospital having his bowels investigated. God knows what they'll find up there. Then of course Mandella's still in hospital. Plenty for Sky News to distract attention away from the important news.
[*]Andrew Marr is the same BBC mouthpiece who gave Gordon Brown a platform to flatly deny that he was taking "prescription medication" for depression. NOBODY had ever alleged that he was taking "prescription medication" for depression but "off the shelf" medication. Marr never asked Brown about that.
3B / (420M * 30 days) == ~12 pieces per citizen per day!
your including babies and people who aren't connected to the internet in your 420 million.
you should redo your math or go back to NSA propaganda school.
In other news, the two biggest spies in the world had a meeting in California, where the shorter spy blew a load of smoke up the taller spy's ass, who found the sensation "terrific."
I am not the enemy you seek (waving hand across your field of vision).
Nice timeline:

It's like a tin foil hat convention around here.
That's how we roll now!
METALZ BITCHEZ, long foil
All that Boundless Informant data mining and they can't pick up on the mass murderers shooting up children and everyone else here in the US?
So exactly what kind of data are they mining???
Its all about jobs.
Obammy now like Lady Macbeth : out out damned spot!
Double post deleted. My apologies.
What I am enjoying most about this leakage problem is how both the left and right are getting tangled up in their own partisan webs of lies. It’s the Republicans who were most adamant about the need to “temporarily” compromise our constitutional rights by pushing for the Patriot Act (which passed almost unanimously). We allowed this camel into the tent based on nothing more than TRUST OF THE GOVERNMENT to not abuse this new UNCHECKED power and to decide for us when the “war” would be over and we could return to normal.
Now we are caught up inwidespread CYA across the entire political spectrum while establishment players up and down that spectrum desperately work to save the monster. So far, I’ve noticed that the left is more adamant about repealing the Patriot Act than the “right” (whatever that is these days). As a Tea Party Patriot and “principles over party” constitutional conservative, I am siding with all who want the Patriot Act repealed and whatever infrastructure that has been put in place however wasteful of money already spent should be dismantled.
And has there ever been a time when politics made for stranger bedfellows than recently over this issue? It may have been Mark Levin who investigated and pushed the IRS issue long enough for it to explode but he is getting no help from the GOP or most of the conservative blogosphere in pushing to repeal the Patriot Act and dismantle that onerous permanent massive bureaucracy.
There is no logical argument to be made defending the Patriot Act by justifying the surrender of our constitutional freedoms. Let's at long last commit to defending our borders and keep our enemies from immigrating to this country in the first place. And I would rather see massive deportations than for us law-abiding US citizens to be stripped of everything that makes defines being American. I’m with anyone who agrees that the Patriot Act has to go, “left” or "right". If anyone should lose their rights here, it is those who are here illegally not us citizens.
tin foil hat, you say: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=tinfoil+hat
Well, I managed to get the chipmunks out of my garden (boil water, mix in chopped serrano peppers, garlic, red peppers, boil, cool, put in a spray bottle and spray everything), now if I can just figure out how to get the chemtrails out of the sky, the IRS out of my ass and the NSA off my phone and computer (and those little voices in my head), I might make it through the summer.
Shit. This. Sucks.
Take the recient Boston terrorist act the russians told them the guy was a dirtbag. no attention was paid TSA was too busy looking in adult dipers and feeling up small children. We might as well accept it we are screwed
"...no attention was paid TSA..."
No attention was paid by FBI & NSA because they were running the false flag op..."
There fixed it for ya.

For those of you who leave your smartphone in broadcast & GPS mode because you can’t find your way out of a paper bag, serves you right. Have no pity for you. Always preset your permission settings, especially if you use applications. Can’t tell you how iCrapple works, but Blackberry has plenty of safety measures to protect leaking privacy information from getting into the wrong hands.

Lastly, before attaching any photo to an email you should either configure your computer settings to cleanse downloaded photo or select the photo and right click for properties. A box will open. Click on the link that says, ‘Remove Properties and Personal Information’.
Hope this has been hopeful.
