Testimony Of NSA Director Gen. Keith Alexander - Live Webcast
Army Gen. Keith Alexander, director of the National Security Agency and head of U.S. Cyber Command is currently testifying in front of the Senate Appropriations Committee's scheduled session. As TPM reported, Alexander had already met with the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), who chairs the committee, said the committee had asked Alexander to declassify some information pertaining to the NSA surveillance programs so that Congress could better explain their purpose to the public. "I think they're really helpful," Feinstein said, as quoted by CBS News. "And that's the problem, it's all classified... If we can get that declassified then we can speak much more clearly." Simply the fact that he says they record the information but it take a court order to look at it already means he's broken his oath to the Constitution and should be prosecuted for deriliction of duty. 3) FISC keeps reapproving a few hundred bulk collection authorizations every three months and has been for years. Tricks the knuckle-draggers as to scope.
4) The NSA has a big computer system that taps the all the internet/telecom backbones traffic for content. They don't need broadband's help. They don't need telecoms' help and they don't need any social media sites' help. The NSA has no real-time need for anything ON the servers because they see everything going in and out. The metadata provided by outfits like Verizon let them connect all the dots. The companys involved all have plausable denial.
5) The NSA has all the data but promises not to peek on U.S. citizens data until they get some other useless FISC rubber stamp. No, really. They promise.
As for Snowden being another Assange, you may want to consider his motivations AFTER supposedly being told specifically by both the Guardian and Post that they would not guarantee publishing all 41 slides of the deck at once (or ever). Assange hasn't provided specifics, but said Snowden approached him (or WikiLeaks) as well. I think Assange would have given us at least a dozen or two or provided some reason. Hong Kong has computers and his story is already out. Why hasn't he arranged to have the full deck released? It's not like he's going to get in any more trouble.

The deputy director of the Central Intelligence Agency Michael J. Morell resigned on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press. Morell served as the deputy director of the CIA since May, 2010, and has held a variety of leadership positions including acting director of the agency prior to the confirmation of CIA Director John Brennan in March, 2013.
Morell will be succeeded by Avril Haines, a former White House counsel and legal advisor to the State Department. The White House says that Morell will continue to serve the public on the president’s Intelligence Advisory Board.
Morell was involved in the framing of the talking points relating to the Benghazi attacks and was reported to have “independently decided to remove” from those talking points references to regional threats that State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland found concerning.
