Guest Post: The Wisest Thing Ever Said By A Socialist...

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Simon Black of Sovereign Man blog,

In 1919, a prominent socialist named Nicholas Klein addressed the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America Convention. And in describing their struggle, he told the crowd:

“First they ignore you. Then they ridicule you. And then they attack you and want to burn you. And then they build monuments to you.”

(A version of this quote is frequently mis-attributed to Gandhi, though there is no evidence that Gandhi ever said this…)

Though Klein was a staunch socialist, he really hit the nail on the head.

Right now there’s an obvious trend in the West. Government insolvency is rapidly pushing those societies down the path of tyranny– drone assassinations, digital spying, pointless wars, confiscation of bank balances, capital controls, and the criminalization of everything from raw milk to collecting rain water.

The world has been here so many times before throughout history. And the trend seems so clear. Yet only a handful of people get it. Most people don’t want to hear about it. And they certainly don’t want to believe it.

You may have experienced this first hand if you’ve ever tried to talk to friends and neighbors about the fallacies of fiat currency.

They’ll probably ignore you. And they’ll probably ridicule you. They’ll accuse you of wearing a tin-foil hat and having lost your mind.

But as the trend continues, we’ll continue seeing a further deterioration in both economic fundamentals and civil liberties. And it will become apparent to everyone.

More stories will break about rampant corruption and gross surveillance. Drones will become a regular part of law enforcement. US debt will pass $20 trillion. They’ll nationalize a portion of pension funds and IRA savings.

They’ll eventually pass a law connecting tax delinquency to passport registration. Social security benefits will be scaled back. They’ll authorize themselves an Internet kill switch… and use it. A national sales tax will be unrolled, and ancillary taxes on things like mobile phone useage and air transport will go through the roof.

Civil asset forfeiture will rise dramatically, and people will have their entire life’s savings caught up in a bureaucratic death trap with no hope of due process. A budding currency crisis will substantially erode people’s standard of living.

And when it does finally become apparent to everyone, they’ll bombard you with questions about what to do… and they’ll celebrate your wisdom for having seen it coming.

An old Zen aphorism wisely states “you cannot fill a cup that is already full.” In other words, you cannot change people’s minds who choose to ignore reality.

We can only strive to be in the best possible position to help our friends, neighbors, and community when they do finally wake up. (And, perhaps occasionally, point out the obvious warning signs…)

For now, the best thing you can do is take care of yourself and your family. Get your own affairs in order. Have a plan, and begin to execute it. We’ll be no use to anyone if we’ve allowed a government to destroy our liberty and wipe out our savings.

******

If you’re looking for definitive answers, I once again want to strongly encourage you to check out the video series from our recent Offshore Tactics Workshop.

Even told them I sold my farm.... you know... just in case they get any brilliant ideas later... :)

Well known fable:

The Little Red Hen finds a grain of wheat, and asks for help from the other farmyard animals to plant it. But no animal will volunteer to help her.

At each further stage (harvest, threshing, milling the wheat into flour, and baking the flour into bread), the hen again asks for help from the other animals, but again she gets no assistance.

Finally, the hen has completed her task, and asks who will help her eat the bread. This time, all the previous non-participants eagerly volunteer. However, she declines their help, stating that no one aided her in the preparation work, and eats it with her chicks, leaving none for anyone else.

The moral of this story is that those who show no willingness to contribute to an end product do not deserve to enjoy the end product: "if any man will not work, never let him eat."

At which point the other animals, enraged at the unfairness of her hoarding bread from the very society that made bread-making possible ("you didn't bake that", they cried!) kill her, cook her, and feast on chicken sandwiches for a few days... before starving to death themselves.

We're in a democracy now, remember?

Wrong. They will accuse you of witchcraft for having "seen" the future...at which point you will be burned at the stake, and your assets siezed...for the children, of course.

What they will do (or are doing in my case), is act like none of this is news, but rather, conventional wisdom that everyone has known all along, with the defensive retort, "But hey, what are you going to do about it?"

Most definitely.  And don't forget that they'll eventually pass a law connecting student loans to it as well.

We are seriously fucked, and yet I could count on one hand the number of people I know who are thinking about what's going on.  If you talk about anything deeper than sports or TV shows, people look at you like you're absolutely nuts.  It's really kinda strange.  Christ, I wish I could meet some people who are thinking about the important issues, even if I don't agree with their take.  Hello?  Anybody out there?  Is there anybody out there who actually understands what a central bank is?  Can we meet for coffee at a LOCAL shop some time?

Some would say, "Lemmings"....but that story is of course bullshit, too!

Lemmings are actually cavernous moles that sleep in burrowed holes for the majority of their lives.  They come out of hiberenation to mate and find food, and that's it.

When the British Documentary film crew found this out, the folks over at the BBC were worried because no one wants to watch a animal show about moles who sleep 70% of their life.  So what did they do?  They took the lemmings they found and threw them off a cliff into a lake, making it LOOK like they were "following each other off a cliff" as we are lead to believe is a practice that lemmings do.

There was even a popular videogame about lemmings doing this, and the majority of the culture actually believes it (including me...until I read about this).

Really goes to show how much people put WAY too much faith into what they hear on tv.

I heard it was a Disney production.

Actually... I heard Walt himself helmed the very bulldozer that drove the hapless rodents off the cliff edge... just for the lulz!

He got his camera crew to film it, so he could i) watch it during his fading years after he lost his bulldozer license and no one would let him drive a bulldozer any more, and ii) make a completely fictitious 'documentary' about suicidal moles so he could get a tax credit for earth-moving equipment.

True story!

Brings to mind my take on the familiar  christian image of a benignly smiling Jesus the shepherd cradling a helpless lamb in his arms.

Protected from ravenous carnivores for only a short while, then destined to be shorn. Ultimately ending up over a fire for either dinner or a burnt sacrifice.

There's a sheeple  metaphor in here somewhere. Anybody?

At this point there are few pleasant places left that haven't turned into Nanny states, controlled by religous zealots, embroiled in civil war, rampant violence, deep poverty, or poisoning the land, water, air. Where exactly can you go that offers freedom, liberty and the Pursuit of happiness? To my knowledge the only nation that still honors liberty and isn't a clusterF, is Chile.

FWIW: The Socialist want the majority of Americans dependant on the Gov't so they have more control and power. If a person is indebted or dependent, they are enslaved. It doesn't matter how nice the slave quarters are, its still slavery.

Escargot-Nice post and we are truly in a sad state when people care more about the Katrashian's and Dancing with the Stars.  No one seems to value intelligent debate anymore.  It is simply not "fun" enough...I too wish more people were aware of what is going on, however if they sheep haven't woken up yet, it will take an absolute societal collapse for that to occur.

On the passport comment-The government has already instructed the IRS to furnish names of the those who currently have a tax debt exceeding $50K.  Those on this list will not be able to renew their passports or obtain a new one.

Good luck finding those folks who actually want to discuss important topics.

Thunderkiss, its not so much they don't understand, they don't want to know. Even my own wife, who is largely inline with my thinking on these topics, if not the ones that really matter, prefers to not talk about it becasue she finds it too depressing. And admittedly I have no solutions to offer which only makes me a more deliberate killjoy. I had a business trip with a 30 something single women last week and I went off on one of my explanetory rants, and she commented that she had never heard that clearly before...and then we changed the subject. They don't want to know and I don't blame them. I'm not sure but that my curiosity may well be my undoing as it has killed any optimism I might have had for the future, making running a business more like funeral planning some days. And yes I work in Dallas and live in the suburbs.

Meh.  Hiding out is the answer, huh?  Sorry, but I don't want the end of my life to come while I'm still in my bleak little hidey-hold preaching how the end is near.  I would rather try to promote change.  Along those lines, I would love to see some organization of a Kucinich/Paul ticket for the next presidential election.  Maybe if those two guys started a third party based on Rule of Law and the Constitution for the 2014 Senate race, things could have a chance of really changing.

RNC would not allow such a ticket, and unless the third party included progressives, no chance to defeat the duopoly.

And why would you vote for somebody like Ryan, who voted in favor of both the Patriot Act and the National Defense Appropriation Act (NDAA)?  You can't really think his views on austerity are more important than his support of the creeping police state?

Until things change, as they always do...

"For the first time in recent memory, participants in the political process, many of them newly engaged, are openly imagining and pushing for a world other than the one they currently live in. Voters are seizing control over the means of production, meeting up with strange new subgroups, and having a blast in the process. The future—even the present—belongs not to the central re-election committee but to the decentralized single-issue swarm. Wherever both parties have colluded in erecting a roadblock to the desires of American voters, there are citizen groups creating angry and effective coalitions to confront the status quo."

I agree...I also expect a gun registry (if not full confiscation), data austerity in mobile plans and service providers, and jail time for copyright abusers (which will be used to silence political dissidents).

BTW the "internet kill switch" exists....I know for a FACT that the Boston PD and the FBI used it in my neighborhood (only 10 min from the shootout in Watertown, MA) as well as other areas of Boston when they were looking for D.Tsarnaev as he was hiding in a boat (as well as to stop people from tweeting out the shit they say over the scanner.....they will also eliminate this eventually, btw).  My internet went out for 20 minutes at a time; I think they killed the 'net for this short period while they tried to ping Dzhokhar's phone.

Aaron Swartz was one of the very few to see this all coming.  Which makes his death even more sucky.

Sorry, but I've become so skeptical, that since 'Ben Ladin', I see double agents (super-deep undercover guys) in every large & controversial event.  The problem is this:  Given the known fact that the LEAs and other Gov agencies create double-agents and deep-cover agents, how do you know that they aren't one of them?  If I were the lead Gov guy running such an operation, I'd make damn sure that my guy founded a large movement -- just so he can be above suspicion and beyond reproach.  Which is why I think they dumped a fake OBL corpse into the ocean.  "Burial at sea", my eye!

FYI, going back centuries, it is known that... "the British monarchy and aristocracy would rather lead an inevitable Reform, than fight it and be excluded".  Didn't they teach you that in your history classes?  ;-)

they’ll celebrate your wisdom for having seen it coming.

That was then. Now they insist that no one could have seen it coming (including themselves), yet they are still the only ones with the knowledge and wisdom to see the way out.

(Look Lenny, it doesn't have to make sense, it just has to be sellable to at least 51%).

Hands up who didn't know the Pledge of Allegiance was written by a socialist, then popularized by the flag making industry?

The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy (1855–1931), who was a Baptist minister, a Christian socialist, and the cousin of socialist utopian novelist Edward Bellamy (1850–1898). The original "Pledge of Allegiance" was published in the September 8 issue of the popular children's magazine The Youth's Companion as part of the National Public-School Celebration of Columbus Day, a celebration of the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Americas. The event was conceived and promoted by James B. Upham, a marketer for the magazine, as a campaign to instill the idea of American nationalism by selling flags to public schools and magazines to students...

Bellamy's original Pledge read as follows:

I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

The Pledge was supposed to be quick and to the point. Bellamy designed it to be recited in 15 seconds. As a socialist, he had initially also considered using the words equality and fraternity but decided against it – knowing that the state superintendents of education on his committee were against equality for women and African Americans.

God had nothing to do with it until much later. (1948, it was part of a deliberate drive to separate the pledge from looking too much like the Nazi's form of Nationalism, it was also at this point that the Bellamy salute was removed; God got shoved in due to the (entirely incorrect) thesis that the Nazis weren't Christian. Actually, most of them were, only a handful of the inner circle were paid up batshitcrazy esoteric "find the Holy Grail" cultists).

I'd also push you to research "The Bellamy Salute" and see if it reminds you of anything. So, every time you've made that pledge, you've made it as a socialist. A Christian one, of course, 'cause early Christianity is basically indentical to socialism. If you can grow beyond the fear of the Communists (Leninists / Stalinists) you might realize something about the basis of America, and how you've been played by the fear of the bogey-men. So, next time one of your esteemed Law makers froths at the mouth over "How God has always been part of the pledge of allegiance...", tell them where to stick their propaganda.

They just want control, and know the easy buttons to push. Problem is, their grasp of the craft is somewhat limited.

You've been living in a dream world Neo...

Yes, I've pointed out this bit of flag waving national socialist propaganda many times.

I quit saying it in elementary school, my parents (fortunately) backed me up, them knowing, it is improper to indoctrinate a child into an allegiance with the state that cannot be explained or understood at that age.

I've never felt guilty about it, never will. Any allegiance I have is with the people, not a flag and certainly not a government which seems to think they can spend my labor more intelligently than me and spy on me at their leisure.

In about 1960 I saw a kid win a Halloween costume contest at the local VFW hall by dressing like Uncle Sam...and right then, even as a kid, I knew that the whole thing was rigged.  Wish that I had heard that pledge history earlier...kind of makes you sick when you think about it.

Like Twain said: Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it."

We differ here. Nationalism is a dead ideology, wandering Zombie like through the new century, for sure. And yes, Socialism or Communism or Fascism or Capitalism are all indoctrinating ideologies (thank >insert whatever you want here< that the 20th Century is over).

However, I think that socialism (small "s", not a big "S") has lots to offer (you can be a capitalist and a socialist and a christian all at the same time, for reference[1]). It's largely to do with just being a fucking human being. What came first? The homo sapiens or the ideology? YEP - THAT'S THE TRAP THEY SET, making you think you need these thoughts to be a "rational thinking member of society". Bullshit, none of this existed 500 years ago, and it doesn't have to exist 50 years from now, ideology is pure bullshit. That's the magic trick, the way to tap into the God Zone of the brain and make you a zombie. "I'm a COKE / STEELERS / MAN. UNITED fan and I hate <insert opposite of said BRANDS>". I hope you all understand this by now, they're just hot-wiring your brain to make you unthinking.

I just disagree with it being a form of indoctrination, which entirely defeats the purpose of the idea over making it an ideology. socialism has many virtues. As long as you treat it with a tiny "s"; take the good parts, and always adapt your thoughts to the current now. Only a fool ignores tools she has in front of her to allow her to survive and make her environment a pleasant place.

If you've not realized this yet, I'll make it clear: RELIGION - IDEOLOGY - BRAND. They're the same trick, they all control the same portion of your neural network, all dressed up differently by the same beings. Welcome to the Red Pill, Neo. It's a control device, and they're all the same, not quantitatively but qualitatively.

Adaption is not limited to biology. These are cold, hard, rigid once installed control methods. And you can't even see them.

When was the last time you bought off-brand? (And don't worry, they're all owned by the same Corporations anyhow, your feeble attempts at choices are priced into the Control Method). They Control You. More importantly, they control the "God-Zone" of your neural network (Mind) which is the key.

[1] If you don't get this, I'd suggest looking at yourself: are you part of a Church? Do you give to a Charity? (That may-or-may not be a total scam, many of the USA's finest Charities are pure scams. Pink Ribbons, *cough* *cough*) Yep, the Church is socialism hidden under the name of God. That's why Bellamy was a Christian socialist. Myself, I think all Charity is evil, and never partake: it's a way to alleviate your conscience on an issue without actually solving said issue. It's for the morally weak. Oh, and I'm probably going to get mind-wiped for my posts here, threats have been made. Fuck it - Fear is the mind killer, so either do it yourself or let me dance. Not all of us are weak ones fearing the Other so much that absolute control is necessary - cowards, cowards, cowards.

I don't think we differ at all actually, outside of the concept of charity. Forced charity is coercion, only voluntary giving can been considered as charity.

Socialism & Communism (large S & C) rely on the state to force something resembling charity. It is impossible to make the one forced (against his/her will) to think of it as charity.

Outside of the state is where charity takes place.

Voluntary giving does nothing either. Voluntary doing does.

The gift of fear is a warning to you.  This is a stickup.  They are not going to stop until they have it all.  Everything.  Your stuff,  Your country.  And you can't be here because no one wants to look into the eyes of the loser when the winner is annouced.  You'll be asked to exit the stage.

The pledge of allegiance is a cute little ditty .... it doesn't rise to the level of once and for all enshrining Socialism as the true way forward .... however .... it's just anecdotal crap .... like that stupid little Canadian girl they trotted out .... Victoria Grant .... leftist, economic child porn !   Weaving Klein and Bellamy into our national fabric to show the relevancy of their socialist thought ?  These are shameless, cheap socialist tricks that showcase the poverty of their ideas !  LOL

As always, there's more than one story to consider when attempting to unravel American history:

"James B. Upham was author of the "I Pledge Allegience To The Flag".

"James was Junior Partner with the Companion Magazine [- and nephew of the owner and editor-in-chief, Daniel Sharp Ford, who had previously published 'The Watchman' -] when they were involved in a big celebration of the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the American flag. As part of this effort he was authoring what would become "I Pledge Allegience To The Flag".

Company policy forbade employees to take individual credit for efforts performed while in thier employ, and as a result all credit went to an associate; Francis Bellamy.

It was always accepted that Upham was the promoter of the project and that Bellamy was the actual author of the original draft. Several years after Upham's death his family found a copy of the original draft for the 'Pledge', which was in Upham's hand. A ruling had already been made and a monument had already been dedicated claiming Bellamy as the author, and Upham's family was never successful in getting any official recognition for Upham in Washington, DC.
