Ron Paul: "Obama’s Syria Policy Looks A Lot Like Bush’s Iraq Policy"

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Dr. Ron Paul via The Free Foundation,

President Obama announced late last week that the US intelligence community had just determined that the Syrian government had used poison gas on a small scale, killing some 100 people in a civil conflict that has claimed an estimated 100,000 lives. Because of this use of gas, the president claimed, Syria had crossed his “red line” and the US must begin to arm the rebels fighting to overthrow the Syrian government.

Setting aside the question of why 100 killed by gas is somehow more important than 99,900 killed by other means, the fact is his above explanation is full of holes. The Washington Post reported this week that the decision to overtly arm the Syrian rebels was made “weeks ago” – in other words, it was made at a time when the intelligence community did not believe “with high confidence” that the Syrian government had used chemical weapons.

Further, this plan to transfer weapons to the Syrian rebels had become policy much earlier than that, as the Washington Post reported that the CIA had expanded over the past year its secret bases in Jordan to prepare for the transfer of weapons to the rebels in Syria.

The process was identical to the massive deception campaign that led us into the Iraq war. Remember the famous quote from the leaked “Downing Street Memo,” where representatives of British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s administration discussed Washington’s push for war on Iraq?

Here the head of British intelligence was reporting back to his government after a trip to Washington in the summer of 2002:

“Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy.”

That is exactly what the Obama Administration is doing with Syria: fixing the intelligence and facts around the already determined policy. And Congress just goes along, just as they did the last time.

We found out shortly after the Iraq war started that the facts and intelligence being fixed around the policy were nothing but lies put forth by the neo-con warmongers and the paid informants, like the infamous and admitted liar known as “Curveball.” But we seem to have learned nothing from being fooled before.

So Obama now plans to send even more weapons to the Syrian rebels even though his administration is aware that the main rebel factions have pledged their loyalty to al-Qaeda. Does anyone else see the irony? After 12 years of the “war on terror” and the struggle against al-Qaeda, the US decided to provide weapons to the allies of al-Qaeda. Does anyone really think this is a good idea?

The Obama administration promises us that this is to be a very limited operation, providing small arms only, with no plans for a no-fly zone or American boots on the ground. That sounds an awful lot like how Vietnam started. Just a few advisors. When these few small arms do not achieve the pre-determined US policy of regime change in Syria what is the administration going to do? Admit failure and pull the troops out, or escalate? History suggests the answer and it now appears to be repeating itself once again.

The president has opened a can of worms that will destroy his presidency and possibly destroy this country. Another multi-billion dollar war has begun.

Ha-Ha. Tell all that to Brazilian professionals who visit London and are mind-blown by the huge range of top quality goods available at much lower prices than the crap they have to buy at home. And what's it all for in Brazil? To keep the unemployed blacks and armies of dont-wanna-work lazy squads in food, TVs and other goodies. Of course these people vote for more socialism.

You're Brazilian. You want some home grown bananas? Plenty of 2nd quality available at about R$3/kilo. In London the same Brazilian bananas, washed and in 1st quality condition, cost the equivalent of R$2.40/kilo. Why is this?

I know about Embraer and they are a world class outfit, selling planes around the world. But you cannot judge any country by a single company. The UK has Rolls Royce. But the vast majority of Brazilian companies are 2nd class who don't spend enough on R&D, quality, productivity and produce 2nd class products at high prices. Consumers have no choice but to buy them due to high import taxes or non-availability.

Why should any educated Brazilian be happy with all that?

And you know, one aspect of Brazilian political culture that's developed over a few decades or much longer is that whatever they do, they do it their way. And certainly never the American way who they blame for their stricken circumstances, even though it's not true. But this explains why they are cosying up to China to create a seperate world of trade and finance etc.

As a westerner, I'd prefer they joined us.

A couple years ago I seriously investigated expanding into the Brazilian market, if for no other reason than to spend a few months a year on my farm and so my wife could spend more time with her family.  Trade barriers were a headache, but in the larger scheme of things were easily surmountable, even without an FTA between Switzerland and Brazil, unlike the internal mechanisms of the local market.  In the end, if I chose to expand there I faced a rather perverted choice, do I want to work OR do I want to make money.  If I simply wanted to make money- I could hop on a short-hop flight to Spain to do a quick JV or exclusive distribution contract with OHL (or ACS or Ferrovial) and make fucktons of quick low effort cash exporting materials (with an eye towards to expanding to local manufacturing), so that OHL could reduce their .gov contract fulfillment costs, all I had to do was go back from whence I came... So yes, choice in Brazil is limited and cost is higher- but that often happens in corporatist oligarchies,

Congress voted to blindly follow Isreal into war if it were threatened a few days ago. Now we have 4000 Iranian guards in Syria and hostile Arabs on the Israeli boarder. This war is guaranteed. How much oil is it going stop flowing? Fracking becomes profitable finally!

Cabal always controls both sides: position and opposition. Ron Paul is controlled opposition that speaks you want to hear but without any real result, just to keep you from acting your self because he is "doing something".

There are no leader that can save you or us as all. There are no super hereos out there. We are programmed by movies to believe in that - but it's just to make you sit there and do nothing.

Start to look from that perspective and you will see things more clearly.

Ron Paul achieved did the hardest thing imaginable: Started to change peoples MINDS on how they thought about our system. After decades of work he brought the conversation about the debt, the FED and gold to the forefront of politics. I don't know what you mean by 'real results' but everyone can't just rush their local city halls with guns, we have a multi facated problem with multiple answers. You are right, the Cabal does control both sides: Dems and Reps, but third liners like RP scare the puke out of them. That is why they rig the game against him, it is why the forced out his delegates at the RNC, that is why supposed 'conervative' news punts him around. Now I worked with the RP campaign in NY, and theres not shit controling me but ME.

It's funny you say that Ron Paul is 'keeping people from acting' but the exact opposite is true, he help draw out hundreds of thousands if not millions. But if I look from your perspective it's simply 'woe is me I cant do anything so I'll let the gov't trample on me' defeatist talk. No thanks

What's to Discuss?

The Trotskyite "neocon"  PNAC is no secret and it is the Official Foreign Policy of the USA; Global domination through an excess of 100 and more years of the destruction of all Nations. As long as it takes.

This means for the unitiated complete surveillance, incarceration, torture and death for all - chosen.

The practise run, that is the Bolshevik Revolution starting 1917 destroyed - at least 70 million people. The next phase will murder far in excess of this - and the number has already been nominated as approximately 6 Billions. Do the math and see if you have a probability of being on the Obama Kill List.

And it's a reality, so get over it! Communism; global communism; the risk-free game all bankers want to play.

Ho hum

WAR !!! Only a skip, hop and a fabrication of horse shit lies away.

Obama is guilty of criminal behaviour.

100,000 protest in Brazil, 1,000's protest in Turkey. come on American you guys are the torch that needs to be lit. If you rise up the world will follow, we need leadership and it can only come from one of the greatest countries in thw world with some of the greatest people in the world.

America was build on the priciple of freedom and liberty, American was built by people escaping European tyrants, and now the USA is a shadow of its former self. The great men and women who built America would cry if they could see what Obama has done you your country.

Show us the way, until then it's more of the same

So, Ron Paul confirms what most of us alreay knew: Obama's intention to get the US more deeply involved in the Syrian quagmire civil war is not a 'red line' or new policy due to somebody/anybody being caught using chemical weapons against the other side, but has been his plan all along.

It won't happen, but US MSM must demand that Obama provides a public explanation of why he is choosing to arm rebels who are publicly affiliated to Al Qaeda, officially America's greatest enemy, especially since those same rebels are little more than animals.

WH foreign policy has taken a further shift into the realms of madness and utter lies.

This is one part of the grand plan as explained by General Wesley Clark in 2007.  You can watch it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=9LTdx1nPu3k

It's not that long and should be seen from time to time just to remind ourselves of what we're dealing with.  They are behind schedule and getting desperate.  That's the reason that people are so surprised at the boldness that they are moving with now.  They simple don't care about exposure any more and going for the whole sack of marbles.  Buckle up it's going to be a bumpy ride.
