Quote Of The Day: Assange Praises Snowden, Slams Nobel Prize
Statement by Julian Assange after One Year in Ecuadorian Embassy
Saturday June 22nd, 15:00 GMT
It has now been a year since I entered this embassy and sought refuge from persecution.
As a result of that decision, I have been able to work in relative safety from a US espionage investigation.
But today, Edward Snowden’s ordeal is just beginning.
Two dangerous runaway processes have taken root in the last decade, with fatal consequences for democracy.
Government secrecy has been expanding on a terrific scale.
Simultaneously, human privacy has been secretly eradicated.
A few weeks ago, Edward Snowden blew the whistle on an ongoing program - involving the Obama administration, the intelligence community and the internet services giants - to spy on everyone in the world.
As if by clockwork, he has been charged with espionage by the Obama administration.
The US government is spying on each and every one of us, but it is Edward Snowden who is charged with espionage for tipping us off.
It is getting to the point where the mark of international distinction and service to humanity is no longer the Nobel Peace Prize, but an espionage indictment from the US Department of Justice.
Edward Snowden is the eighth leaker to be charged with espionage under this president.
Bradley Manning’s show trial enters its fourth week on Monday.
After a litany of wrongs done to him, the US government is trying to convict him of "aiding the enemy."
The word "traitor" has been thrown around a lot in recent days.
But who is really the traitor here?
Who was it who promised a generation "hope" and "change," only to betray those promises with dismal misery and stagnation?
Who took an oath to defend the US constitution, only to feed the invisible beast of secret law devouring it alive from the inside out?
Who is it that promised to preside over The Most Transparent Administration in history, only to crush whistleblower after whistleblower with the bootheel of espionage charges?
Who combined in his executive the powers of judge, jury and executioner, and claimed the jurisdiction of the entire earth on which to exercise those powers?
Who arrogates the power to spy on the entire earth - every single one of us - and when he is caught red handed, explains to us that "we’re going to have to make a choice."
Who is that person?
Let’s be very careful about who we call "traitor".
Edward Snowden is one of us.
Bradley Manning is one of us.
They are young, technically minded people from the generation that Barack Obama betrayed.
They are the generation that grew up on the internet, and were shaped by it.
The US government is always going to need intelligence analysts and systems administrators, and they are going to have to hire them from this generation and the ones that follow it.
One day, their generation will run the NSA, the CIA and the FBI.
This isn’t a phenomenon that is going away.
This is inevitable.
And by trying to crush these young whistleblowers with espionage charges, the US government is taking on a generation, and that is a battle it is going to lose.
This isn’t how to fix things.
The only way to fix things is this:
Change the policies.
Stop spying on the world.
Eradicate secret law.
Cease indefinite detention without trial.
Stop assassinating people.
Stop invading other countries and sending young Americans off to kill and be killed.
Stop the occupations, and discontinue the secret wars.
Stop eating the young: Edward Snowden, Barrett Brown, Jeremy Hammond, Aaron Swartz, Gottfrid Svartholm, Jacob Appelbaum, and Bradley Manning.
The charging of Edward Snowden is intended to intimidate any country that might be considering standing up for his rights.
That tactic must not be allowed to work.
The effort to find asylum for Edward Snowden must be intensified.
What brave country will stand up for him, and recognize his service to humanity?
Tell your governments to step forward.
Step forward and stand with Snowden.

Assnge is correct.
Barack Hustle Odumma and Eric Piss Holder don't know the difference between whistle blower and espionage. They should go back to dictionary and look up the definition. Another example of affirmation action goes awry.
Snowden is a whistle blower not a spy. You got it dumb ass.
Haaaaaaahaaaaaha!
Shill, see eye a construct, paper cut-out preaches having a back-bone.
Too funny.
Assange, Snowed-in...

If Iceland takes him then a series of stop triggers will occur in the digital Black ops........they can't let it happen.
Like Michael Hasting, he is dead if he goes to Iceland. His best bet is Russia or China, deep into the belly of the beast.
Latest news on Hasting: http://www.businessinsider.com/michael-hastings-email-about-fbi-investig...
Yeah, Iceland is way to small, he'd be as exposed there as a fighting fish in a glass of water.
It is getting to the point where the mark of international distinction and service to humanity is no longer the Nobel Peace Prize, but an espionage indictment from the US Department of Justice.
Quote.....of.....the.....year
Dear NSA contractors...
The job you have must be very difficult... you know... having the ability to look at all of the communications, trade secrets, databases and business connections of literally millions of high net worth individuals and corporations every day at the mere stroke/mis-stroke of a key... including our esteemed 'Financial Elite' ... and yet never ever ever being tempted to use or sell this same information to make yourself a quick and easy fortune like they do on Wall Street.
And let's not even think about the tens of millions you could potentially make from book deals and movie rights in addition to becoming a national hero in the process if you stumble upon some embarrassing or incriminating information on TPTB in the process.
Nope... I sure know I couldn't resist that opportunity of a lifetime... but then again that's probably why I'm not in the security business...
You truly are "The Patriots" that we here at ZH and you know yourselves to be...
Anyway... they pay you pretty good right?... and even though most of you work for corporate security sub-contractors... like what is the chance that they will sub contract your job out to say INDIANS or others who hate us for our freedoms (and don't care about the rights of Americans like you do) in the future... just to make themselves even MORE MONEY right? Ain't going to happen probably.
So in summation... thank you again for protecting us against those same terror attacks of which our security agencies are almost always involved in as partners just to better protect us.
And kindly remember... if you see something... say something...
It's the law.
God damn that was good Jullian I am forced to think about that as I peform the fiction called the constitution everyday in the everyday courts Pretending my clients have inalienable rights knowing full well that at any moment if they uncover the wrong package or say the wrong thing their legal playhouse comes crashing down and theyre shoved into some helicopter along with me if I know enough never to see a "speedy trial" or client confidence again. What a sick nightmare of a joke this place and the human "race" has become all so some fucking empire can keep pretending our currency means something. We owe these brave young men our humanity we owe our children a future we owe our country another life
Top jobs are tough not because you are doing the work, but because your job is to fool others (investors, workers, customers) into believing a lie.
+1000
When people use the wonderful word FUCING it has relevance.. DJ Good post my brother!!
Also I might add that it is highly unlikely that the pensions you are expecting will be paid in anything like the dollars you are expecting. Your maintaining the status quo will be a large part of the reason for that. Good for you! If I were in your boots I don't think I could keep doing my job.
I agree Pool Shark.
One issue that make me go hmmmm..., is the allegation from former NSA'er Russ Tice that Obama was under surveillance beginning in 2004. As a result of damaging information gathered by the NSA, the President has been compromised. It certainly would explain why Obama has been so completely pliant and a lapdog of TPTB throughout his presidency.
http://news.firedoglake.com/2013/06/21/former-intelligence-analyst-obama...
They all are. The ones that aren't are deemed unelectable.
In poor African countries, military = government
In America, military uses government's popularity as a facade.
Government in its purest form is just military...the protector...the castle operator for farmers to run to safety during invasions.
half of your taxes go to military.
American innovation is just commercialization of military tech.
American medical advances are from world wars. hang the human experimentists but US kept the lab results.
American social benefits are financed by military victories (fed -> US treasury -> people, but fed's power is derived from military strongarming commodity rich nations into using USD)
great quote from Nothing But the Truth was when they called Kate Beckinsale's character a 'water walker'
and the movie prompty show what the system does to them......
(and yes Kate's my #1 actress so that is how i know about and watched this ;)
It's more likely that Chief Justice Roberts was compromised in this manner and forced to rule in favor of the constitutionality of Obamacare.
Obama has always been a cocksucking traitor. He always will be.
traitors to freedom are all those sitting silent while whistleblowers get imprisoned.
Americans don't deserve freedom, if they'd rather fight over TV shows than rights.
Don't forget the uproar that was caused last week when the Gap (or something) tried marketing a stupid t-shirt that made fun of Taylor Swift.
It's always refreshing when we witness moral authority confronting immorality.
I agree "true brain". Snowden's only chance for survival and any semblance of a normal life would be in Russia under the protection of the FSB and other security organs of the Russian state. As I understand it, Putin has opened the door to him should he feel the need to run for his life. Perhaps he is prepared to die a martyr to his cause by staying in the west. Iceland could never protect him, he would die soon enough of any number of causes.
Obama is, as he has proven, a killer. He will order the rubbing out of Snowden as a message to any who dare speak the truth.
I have a deep family connection to Sweden and speak the laguage and visit friends and family there often. I struggle to explain those two insane whores who have accepted as US agents to trump up sex crime charges against Assange. They even call it rape, which from my reading of the Swedish press is pure Bullshit! But the women are still demanding justice! The Swedes also seem more than willing to render Assange to the USA secret police terror state. Again, I wonder why, has Sweden been so corrupted by Washington's influence?
Snowden would probably like Iceland better, but if he want's to live, he may have to seek Russian protection. But hey, the Moscow or St. Petersburg regions offer anything and everything you can imagine. Plus, women so beautiful it makes your eye's hurt to look at them. I have been there more than once, I would have no problem with living there were I a young man like Snowden.
"young man" it's never too late, my friend. I sometimes envy 70 years old guys walking around with young beautiful women. If my karma holds, one day I will be have a nice young one too.
God I love comments like these. The comments section's what's kept me faithful to the Hedge all these years.
today i deleted my all other accounts elsewhere, waste of time, energy, electricity, sheeple never learn, only the hard way
70 years old? by then half of people you know are dead and so is your little friend down there. who are you trying to impress with your arm candy? your gandkids?
just grab dat ass!
Plus, women so beautiful it makes your eye's hurt to look at them.
Fucking paradise,,,,,sign me up!!! immediately >< my bags are on the front porch.
Jack,
Sweden has not been "Sweden" since Olaf Palme was assassinated. The Stockholm police tried to put the blame on Kurdish immigrants. This was in 1982 - a long time before 9/11
In order to understand who really killed him, you have to work out who benefited enormously from Sweden turning 180 degrees in its foreign policy - Israel and the USA.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olaf_Palme
Read "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest", for a populist Swedish view of its intel services and culture. Forget the movie.
Snowden and Greenwald has already said they have a dead-man switch (release of information) should anything happen to them.
I think the black world is freaked out because Snowden clearly has the goods, and they know what he has, and it can't be stopped. So the race is on for damage control.
While I'm still not 100% convinced of motive here -- Benghazi is suspiciously absent from the radar these days -- I am convinced that there are more very damaging disclosures coming. So this is either a legit leak of huge magnitude, or it's a distraction move that's willing to compromise decades of spying to avert our eyes from something that at this point I can only imagine would end the current adminstration, and possibly the entire government.
I keep pondering if there's a secret so big that they'll kill the internet to stop it. Time will tell.
"seek" I heard Snowden's interview a few days back when he said that he had this "dead-man switch" and it was lethal to the US spy programs should it automatically be triggered. This tells me Snowden was well prepared when he fled with the information. He had to know how the US kill teams work, so he knew only the threat of a "data dump" of epic importance could keep him alive.
The US has indeed marked off the entire world as a free fire zone against anyone they target. This system was used in Vietnam to great effect, though the war was lost, the price Vietnam payed was massive. So never forget that the USA power elite will kill without blinking. These fuckers are playing for complete world control. A human life is nothing to the Obama kill teams, and our freedoms are nothing to the Obama spy teams.
Obama is the greatest "bait and switch" ever pulled off on an American electorate. This "black Bush" was programed ahead of time by his masters in the elite military/security/corporate/ eiltes to double down on all of the Bush agenda. Look at the record, look at it!
Yes, it was a brilliant move. Have Bush install unconstitutional spy programs in response to the Threat, knowing Americans would rise in anger.. And THEN Have Bush's replica waiting in the wings to criticize the system, thereby being elected. Sweet.
Always amazes me how some can love one and hate the other. Sad but many Americans will be unable to figure out they're being hung until the noose is aroumd their necks.
plenty of americans die poor believing in santa clause, God, constitution, capitalism
Except for the first, maybe recognition is the problem...
people don't want to hear the truth and reward dream/hope sellers to cope with the problems in life instead of people who can actually solve problems
Especially when they're benefiting, albeit temporarily, from the programs installed by the snake-oil salesman.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KS2khYJZKwA
For nearly 1700 years the first has been at the right hand of the Second, who approves of the third and the fourth, so long as they are tempered by the teachings of the Son. All those who die believing die rich: they face death with hope and without fear - two things money can never buy.
Like I said: People don't want the Truth. They want the truth that's consistent with their world view. TPTB create and manage their world views.
Getting people to change their world view is almost as difficult as... losing a bunch of weight and keeping it off.
so true so obvious now so pathetic so evil
Obviously he's as far from a drop-out idiot as possible and all this time between his decision and the actual "defection" was well spent gathering as much evidence as he could.
(Redundant) self-triggering time-bombs should be the first thing to do, once one decides to go public, even while still gathering evidence; unfortunately, no whitleblower manuals even mentions that or how to do it.
When he talked about the `kill switch` I got the impression that it was in the context of an answer to the question `are you in fear for your life` - his response being along the lines of `yes, but the information IS coming out anyway` it was not a `leave me alone and I will stop` gambit at all.
RT have a piece today regarding him and fresh allegations that GCHQ (UK) also record and save everything - including 600 million telephone calls per day. The inference was that the data is analyzed and shared - sold to the highest corporate bidder? - definitely shared with NSA and most certainly NOT limited to surveillance of British nationals. It sounded as though RT were going to be releasing a claim that GCHQ are used extensively to steal information from a multitude of foreign countries.
Fuck you too GCHQ and God speed Mr Snowden to lasting sanctuary.
On RT the Max Keiser show is claiming that Britain indeed records every data point in the UK and that some of it is priority to Washington, meaning the UK secret police may not even get the data. The UK is superior to the USA in it's long standing spy network.
Max also claims that the total information awarness program goes as a side benefit to those with inside Washington connections. Keiser says he believes that inside financial institutions profit from this spy neworks knowledge of every corporate, market and business decission gained through the spy network. NSA as an agent of front running of every coming corporate or fed decession.
He may be right, or he may be wrong, but the temptation to profit from the ultimate insider sources would be powerful, and in the now criminal Washington elites, that use of spy information is all too likley.
I love it when Max hammers the UK for it's spying and it's financial terrorism via the traders and banks in the City of London.
The entire London and Washington axis are one in the same, total service to the bankers and the traders of the large institutions. All profit ends up in their hands, very little goes to the producers and makers. Skimming and trading on secet insider information is business as usual in the corrupt crony capitalism of Washington and London.
The whole Benghazi incident is THE reason for all the leaks and scandals.
No way I can prove it but obama's camp set the ambassador up to be captured. Obama and Hillary were then going to negotiate the US ambassadors release in trade for the blind sheik right before the election.
America will not negotiate with terrorists you say but we will conduct prisoner exchanges as all civilized countries have done throughout time. This would have been spun into a prisoner exchange.
Obama secures the election and Hillary secures her election the next time around.
The two navy seals that were in the area disregarded orders to stand down when the kidnappers came to snatch up the Ambassadore. The Ambassadore calls for help. Within minutes them two seals show up and begin defending the ambassador until they all got killed.
Big cover up. Politicians start getting the heat and they fall down and hit their head, begin leaking things to misdirect the press and public.
It ALL leads back to Benghazi.
I can't agree. Benghazi was a total CIA operation. The ambassador was CIA and his guards were former Navy Seals operating as private contractors to the CIA. The operation was to recruite and fund Libyan Islamic terrorists to be sent to Syria as part of the NATO war. The CIA also was working on transfer of Libyan army weapons to the Syrian terrorists.
When the ambassador was engaged with supporting terrorism, he simply fell victim to blow back when some of the US allied terrorists could not resist attacking the tempting target of these Americans.
The leaks of Snowden are not part of this operation. I don't know why the Republican talking points on benghazi are of anything but two party politics interest. The elites are not Republican or Democrats. America is ruled by one party.
This conspiracy has legs because it explains why everyone sat on their hands----they expected the ambassador would eventually get kidnapped and didn't want to interfere. That was the objective from the beginning.
...ummmm...it's wrong to see Benghazi as a Republican vs Democrat issue... the CIA was diminshed by Benghazi... Petraeus was blackmailed... CIA assets were killed... and everyone that's not a total idiot knows the operation was gunrunning to Syrian AQ... and maybe to trade "other" assets as well... the real question is "who wins"... is it one Agency vis-a-vis another... or one "foreign" psy-ops vs. another... to make this about two political parties who are owned by the same 1% of 1%ers is rather short-sighted... its likely MUCH more interesting than that...
Obama's "October surprise" ? Plan to make Obama the hero and defeat Romney ?
If Obama, with his parents working for CIA in the past, was again the CIA candidate, presumably Hillary is also, considering her and Bill's nefarious deeds and links to CIA drug running from Central America.
Not the Langley-based CYA, but the Tel a viv based 'CYA' wet jib.
Sorry about the bad spelling.
Edward the Onion Peeler! Layer by dirty layer...
I hope he has dirt on the 546 socipaths that constitute the three-branched tree of evil. We know Obama is dirty; I'd like to see him prosecuted and executed for the murdered and mutilated children of Afghanistan, for example...
LOL !!
I wish that little child I was debating with a while back on the Hedge just after the Snowden story hit was around. He was spouting off about how everyone should use encryption and how even quantum computers could not even break a 4,096 bit encrypted file to which I laughed in his face and told him the NSA does not need to break it, for they have so many other avenues to capture data about you and use good ol' off the self bahavioural algorithms to profile you.
Plus I told this this little propeller head that if you do start using 4,096 bit encryption on everything including your grocery list, the NSA will pay PARTICULAR interest in you.
Well.....here ya go.......
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/06/21/nsa_spooks_can_pry_on_your_encry...
Here's a quote......
"Anyone who encrypts their emails or uses secure instant message services runs the risk of having their communications stored by the US National Security Agency, according to the latest leaks from former NSA sysadmin Edward Snowden.
The Guardian has published two more explosive documents which set out what sort of information the NSA is allowed to harvest from foreign targets, as well American citizens.
If someone's location can not be clearly established, then they "will not be treated as a United States person" unless other evidence becomes apparent. This would mean that anyone using anonymity software like Tor, which deliberately masks their location, is liable to have their communications stored."
So here's the upshot.....if you really want to escape Prison Planet the only way to do it is go full blown Jack Reacher......otherwise.....get over it.....keep a weather eye on Big Brother through news sites like Zero Hedge.....have a drink....love your family.....and realize death is the great equalizer and frees us all in the end.
On second thouight......what we all could do is a version of what I have suggested we all do to bring down the American Fascist Sate by all of us en masse telling our bosses to fuck off, get on every government program there is and just kill the beast from within with its own venom.
We could all use TOR for anonymous web surfing https://www.torproject.org/
Retroshare for encrypted Peer2Peer communications http://retroshare.sourceforge.net/
DuckDuckGo for more anonymous searches https://duckduckgo.com/
and other means to "go dark" online and just flood the bastards' system with "suspicous" activity to just drive them fucking insane. Sort of the digital version of yelling "I'M SPARTICUS" !!!!
In fact....we could spoof the military by calling it PROJECT SPARTICUS. God knows that in this present day version of the Roman Empire there's a need for a slave rebellion.
...precisely... there's no human immortality... even the 1% of the 1%ers can't control the future nor what their prodgeny will "do" with their lives and fortunes... no matter how they try... predicting human behavior is a crapshoot... controlling it over the longterm is even harder...ho-hum...
But Obama had already used the Espionage Act several times before Bengazi. No, I think the big secret is pretty obvious really.
The truth about 9/11 cannot be allowed to come out because it would expose the real terrorists.
That presumes Snowden is a distraction from something worse that was threatening the Beast, which otherwise could not be covered-up by the Establishment.
9-11 Gov. conspiracy is already covered-up and dismissed by the Establishment.
Benghazi is still an active story.
How does that conspiracy web unravel ?
No one knows yet.
I don't think it presumes Snowden is a distraction from something worse. It presumes Snowden is the real deal.
I agree they are still working on covering-up Bengazi and maybe because pulling on that thread would lead to an unraveling. I guess we'll have to wait and see how this plays out. At the very least, I think the government has done a superb job destroying its credibility all on its own. Lie to me once, shame on you. Lie to me twice, shame on me. I'm not buying anything the government says, and I'm pretty sure I'm far from alone.
The Nobel is for political whores.
The best and bravest are standing up to the Neo-Fascist empire.
NEO-Communist you retarded fucking cunt!
Aren't there some 5th graders you can play with?
His artless delivery notwithstanding, he is technically right.
The internationalist powers that be are anything but "fascists," which is to say, nationalists. On the contrary, they are communist/neocon scum who want a one world government based out of Jerusalem where everyone but "the Party" lives like slaves whose existence is 100% physical.
We could use some good old fashioned fascism to counter them.
I disagree that fascism is nationalistic, except as a cover to propagandise the proles. If fascism is understood as corporate-crony takeover of (national) government, then a one-world "new order" run by banks would be a fascist goal.
To me it is significant that of all the 'world leaders' who are up to their necks in this shit, the least untrustworthy is Putin, only because he does actually seem to be a real nationalist.
You're ripping the heart out of what fascism is. Fascism without nationalism is like communism without internationalism. Why do you think that Mussolini sent troops to fight Stalin side-by-side with the Germans. Mussolini was one of the co-founders of fascism, now ask yourself why an extreme nationalist like him would develop an internationalist philosophy.
99% of people who throw around the word "fascism" don't even know what it means.
Fascism, as defined by Mussolini:
That doesn't mean that it can't mix in some socialism too - in fact, Hitler's was explicitly socialist. I used Neo-Fascism precisely because this is a new version, not identical to the previous versions.
I agree, this is neo-fascism or globo-fascism. Private corporate entities desiring monopolies/exclusive territory/no competition are at the heart of this. It's clearly not capitalism (due to lack of competition and lack of consequences for failure) and it's clearly not conventional communism (the state definitely wants to run things, but not as state-sponsored/state-owned enterprises.)
This is either communism with outsourcing (free-trade communism?) or fascism that transcends national boundaries (globofascism) -- take your pick -- but the old labels don't work this Frankenstein, in fact, using the old labels lets them hide the mechanisms for running the show quite nicely.
Come and work for one of our global, accredited, approved, politically correct, TBTF, government protected, multinationals.
Or on the other hand you can take your chances in what's left of the "free market" . Get in quick while it lasts.
Its your choice after all....
It's already here.
"Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism
because it is a merger of state and corporate power."
~ Benito Mussolini
Happy?
Mussolini was an extreme nationalist, ally of Hitler and Franco, enemy of Stalin, and hardly one to advocate for a one world government.
When Mussolini made that statement, he meant that the nation is an organic body and that means that both government and business should work together for the good of the Italian NATION (i.e., the Italian people). Nothing to do with internationalism whatsoever.
Stop regurgitating what you hear from Alex Jones and try actually thinking about the words being put forth.
You're trying too hard, my friend. Definitions are not the enemy.
The map is not the territory...
Absolutely. At the same time, if one finds oneself in new territory, a place where previous map symbols obscure rather than accurately represent the territory, then new symbols are required. Clearly technology and political change has dramatically altered the territory, suggesting we need some new words to properly describe reality.
I understand the choice of Neo-fascism since it's obvious that corporations have merged with states. It does seem a bit different from nationalistic versions of fascism, in that the corporations are global and superior to nations in terms of sovereignty. Most legislation these days is written by corporations, so the relationship between governments and corporations has been inverted so that governments now serve corporations. I guess this is where Sheldon Wolin got the idea for inverted totalitarianism.
But I think inverted totalitarianism ignores or diverts attention away from the fact that the system we are living under is clearly an advanced form of organized crime, embodying techniques traditionally used by organized crime: extortion, bribery, and coercion (up to and including the use of deadly force - and all "legal") in order to extract "rent" and it also ignores who the main beneficiaries of this system are. I'm not good at coming up with neologisms, but I think a proper terminology would need to incorporate these elements in order to be descriptively accurate.
It's also necessary for the world to consider that the world we believe was precisely described by those old terms was never ever really as described by those terms. I'm fairly well convinced capitalism never functioned without force / threat / coercion / violence... a reason why imperialism / slavery / military industrial complex can serve the capitalist agenda so well. And I think it's naive to believe we've only recently entered the corrupt age or the age where deception / surveillance are deployed against the citizenry... wealthy individuals have always employed misinformation, and the dark ages / feudal state / even ancient oppressive civilizations had spies / informants / squealers - why indeed would one need assassins if there was not foreknowledge and a plot against a plot... this stuff is not new, it's just more of us are aware of it so it seems a recent development. The oligarchs have always been listening, and every socio-economic system since the beginning of time has been of their whim / at their service, a contrivance. Basically, Neo / Geo Fascism is just a contrivance of the oligarchs to begin with.
What I would rather people spend their time considering is why bother saving humanity... what have we learned in 1 million years of evolution / progress when we are still firmly brutes. Look, all of the recorded history has mostly been lodged within the scarcity envelope, where there was not enough for everyone unless we all worked hard. Greed / self-interest served people in that history... however since the beginning, we've been moving towards the surplus envelope, where the tools we've so diligently developed are finally able to produce significant quantities of surplus, alleviating us from unnecessary hard work. Greed / self-interest are not as necessary in this approaching future. We should stop looking at history as if it is a precise road map of what or how or why we should do certain things... we should put history in historical context and conjure new concepts for the new context, just as you say. We are no longer a deprived race, but we continue to live in a depraved manner.
The oligarchs recognize where we are in time / place... they know we are on the verge of unprecedented abundance / human compassion / generosity and cooperation... that is why they're hell bent on stopping this motion, and why they want to retreat into history... a history where they ruled, where they were in control, where they dictated the terms. That world is greedy / self-absorbed / desperate, the neo-feudal age. Debt serfs, indentured slaves, working tirelessly for the amusement of the scum. We really need to spend a lot more time envisioning our collective future... but we spend so much time retracing past mistakes. Deja Vu all over again. That was the true meaning of Groundhogs day... our civilization, stuck ignorantly repeating the same nightmares, not recognizing the bigger picture or the repeating pattern. At least, we've repeated it enough, mostly because no one had yet figured out how to stop the repetition... till now. We are thankfully starting to see the trajectory of civilization, not just the foot prints of the steps. We can now recognize we've been on a long journey, and not just retracing steps as we've so often persuaded ourselves / forced to believe by others. To many, cooperation is disgusting, but that is the residue of the scarcity envelope... in a surplus envelope, we achieve greater benefit by cooperating.
Anyway, I don't think this awareness will reach critical mass in time to rescue our trajectory / thwart the retracement being forced by the oligarchs, which means the oligarchs will have won, again.
+1 ... a cut well above the recent tired and repetiitive ZH epithets! Well done.
I found this line to be particularly relevant, because it explains the real reason for their desired cull:
Thank you Dog... yes, retreat into history, that is the intent... the debt they've fraudently foisted onto the people of the world, the reason they're buying up the real assets of the world, why they're undermining governments, why they undermine social organizations / institutions, education, private property, privacy... they want a new dark ages where they control access to knowledge, the printing press never existed, the enlightenment never occurred, the labor movement never happened, there will be no ownership by the peasants, no enterprise, no physical mobility... we will be forced to work 7 days a week, 16+ hours a day, beaten, discarded, injured, humiliated... children too will be forced to work as before.
What people don't understand is that the vanguard critics of the IMF from the 60's, the critics of the UN in the 50's, the critics of the labor practices of the corporations at the turn of the 20th century, the critics of the WTO, G8, G20, NAFTA, mega corporations, deregulation, secretive governments, police state etc etc etc, were all right all along. It is the critics of those critics who were so badly wrong. We still don't listen to the vanguard until it is too late and meaningless.
I give a shit because I know I'm supposed to leave a positive world for future generations, and i will do my best to not allow civilization to descend into a Neo-Dark Ages... that would be a travesty and severe injustice to future generations. Oligarchs / Governments / Corporations have 100 year plans, its about time people woke up and recognized the Citizens need a 100 year plan as well. For those who still don't get it, the Constitution could be seen as the foundation / an invitation by our founding fathers for the development of such a plan. But before we implement a long term plan, regressive / conservative thinking has to be constrained... we must not maintain a particular time in history in perpetuity, we must become vanguard thinkers, experimenters with safety nets, explorers. Literally, history does not repeat and it should not... progress is what we need to aim for... new technologies, new institutions, new ways of organization, new constraints on abuse of opportunity, new everything. There is no benefit to clinging to the past, it ends up devastating the lives of many, especially those newly born... we need progress to include those newly born within our social structure, whatever it is. That is the difference between living in the past enshrined in scarcity, and boldly moving forward to greet surplus with open prosperous hearts.
I agree with absolutely every word of that, Ranger. Keep it up!
This is one of the last places where a few bright minds will take heed of the need for individual action to move civilisation forward (among the tens of thousands who are waiting for a saviour to "fix it" for them, or to return to the scene of the crime in 1787).
"Let a thousand flowers bloom" (to steal a phrase from one who, ironically, actually tried to trample the flowers).
can't we just have 'rodney king' moment here and agree on "inverted totalitarianism"?
Can't we just have a Rodney Allan Rippy Jumbo Jack moment here?
Ever since the Gulf of Tonkin "Incident", the dominoes have been falling, eh?
My mommy was a commie so I (necessarily) turned her in. Do I get the Medal of Freedom?
The Commie meme is getting a bit long in tooth.
What did I drop into the comments section of the Huffington Post?
Nowadays you are given two options if you are to be in mainstream politics/academia/media: you are a Frankfurt School cultural Marxist or else you are a Neoconservative.
Neoconservatives are Marxists who, during the Vietnam War protests, were horrified when they heard the Gentiles they had trained start applying their internationalist pseudo-logic to Israel. Desperate for a way to be nationalists for Israel while still pushing Marxist internationalism on the rest of the world, they developed the neoconservative ideology.
As for communism, the hard form of communism has failed (for now) but the soft form of it succeeds more every day. Open your damned eyes and take a look at the world view being pushed in the MSM every day.
Hope this helps.
I can't tell if you're stupid or paid. Your use of "cultural Marxist" denotes a far Right background (and we all know that Breivik had certain interesting SumaCumGladiorious ties) but the rest of it doesn't scan properly. You'd be using a dog whistle for "ZE J00000S" if you really believed it. (Cheesepopes, Cheesepopes, Cheesepopes).
As such, I mark you 2/10. You keep pushing that old Communist nonsense though, I'm sure the 20th Century is a warm happy place for you telling stories by the fireside, and I'm sure it sells well on Glen Beck's side of the sphere, but you're with the Wild Things here.
Corrupted Neoliberalism
Neoconservatives - sure look like Communists to me!
If you could manage to read down that list [of Neoconservatives] past Bush and Cheney (who are always placed at the top of such lists, to get the conversation pointed in the right direction), you'll find that they are indeed communists, errr, liberals (and nearly all of them are cheesepopes...and the few that aren't are Jesuits).
The neocons started out as a bunch of young turks in the Democrican party and jumped ship to the Republicrats in 1968 when they saw that Nixon was going to win (with their help) against Humphrey (Bobby Kennedy having been assassinated immediately after his primary win). Richard Perle, for example, is still a registered Democrat.
Other names that should be added to the list of prominent neocons (and they are also all cheesepopes) are:
Mort Zuckerman
David Horowitz
Pamela Geller
Daniel Pipes
David Wurmser
Douglas Feith
the fact that you are all obsessed over labels rather than substance, explains why the american presidential system of government and it's two-party system is able to do what it does best:
may the farce be with you ;-)
LOL ... it appears that you are in need of a remedial reading course. However, thanks for playing.
CH1, He thought ZH was a FOX affiliate. He got lost.
Communist? Ha! Ha! This guy probably thinks Russia is still the Union Of Soviet Socialist Republics. He is obviously a fucking wanker and a feeble cunt!
The symbol of fascism is a bundle of twigs strapped together to form an ax. Which is to say, all of the smaller elements of a nation joined together to become far stronger than they are alone. This is nationalism at its core. Nothing to do with one world government, international banks, or any other nonsense that many believe it is.
Sounds like many ZHers need to turn off Alex Jones and try cracking a book more than 50 years old.
This comment is a masterpiece of incongruity.
It's called a fasces you ignorant cunt, and it's from the Roman Republic (originally Etruscan, but hey). And its meaning has nothing to do with what you're claiming; Nationalism as we understand it simply didn't exist for the Roman Kingdom / Republic, nor did it for the early American Republic. Might want to study when / where / how "Nationalism" arose sometime. Hint: 19th Century.
Sounds like your script needs an update and you should fuck off before getting spanked.
Oh, and p.s. Read the damn wiki, it's extensively used all over American symbolism, DERP. I guess America was COMMUNIST in 1776? Woof. Woof. Woof.
This is just semantics. Does it matter why a control freak wants total control? Not so much - they're dangerous as hell, no matter what political script they pretend to follow.
...ummmm...indeed...one small quibble... these are bolsheviks... not communists... there IS a difference...
Close.... I can't find that it was used by Mussolini or other fascists as such.
Fasces, a plural tantum, from the Latin word fascis, meaning "bundle", is a bound bundle of wooden rods, sometimes including an axe with its blade emerging. The fasces had its origin in the Etruscan civilization, and was passed on to ancient Rome, where it symbolized a magistrate's power and jurisdiction. The image has survived as a representation of magisterial power. A secondary meaning of the bundling of sticks may have been "strength through unity".
Very odd. I woke up today thinking about the fasces and its origins. Thanks for the info.
The thing that occurred to me was that the wooden rod, or staff, or in the tarot, the wand, is a symbol of man's will. The fasces symbolically represents the joining of men's wills to a common cause, through the use of force if necessary, symbolized by the axe.
Rod, staff, wand, Sceptre, axe, all symbols of Sovereignty ?
Bundle as symbol of family or clan of the king ?
Curious how Tarot has 22 trump cards, 22 letters of Hebrew alphabet.
Arthur E Waite tarot deck ? Aleister Crowley associate ?
Occult symbolism ?
If I remember correctly, earliest tarot cards were from Italy.
I think it was Lenin that said that Capitalism would provide the rope with which to hang itself.
This temporary foray into Fascism is just this.
The corporate class is willing to sell their souls to the political class in order to gain temporary advantage.
Once the corporate guys have helped establish a full blow totalitarian system, the political assholes will precipitate a meltdown that will result in the final government takeover of all private property.
Finally, Marxism.
So, although Obama is a Marxist at heart, he is tolerating our current Fascism as a stepping stone to his father's dreams being realized.
I think instead, that it's the political class that's sold it's soul to the corporate class.
Maybe it's just me...
The two great forces of the 19th century were nationalism and socialism(marxist variety).
Fascism was the culmination of both in the 20th century.A sterile hybred.
Hemce the Nazi's were self descibed National Socialists.
This argument on ZH is getting banal. We are talking Statist vs. indivdual liberty.
Forget the ism's.
....ummmm...or God vs. mammon...same battle...
It's Dick Holder, to you.
"Snowden is a whistle blower not a spy."
Stating that requires that one assume there is somehow legitimacy in the enforcement of espionage/anti-spying laws when, in fact, using violence (kidnapping, murder, etc.) against those who speak freely about information others wish to keep secret cannot carry any legitimacy under any circumstances regardless of who the perpetrators or victims of such violence are.
Yes, but the UK's "Fake Internet Cafe" was brilliant! Just think how stupid those diplomat/embassadore Buffoons felt when they read The Guardian's release of this info, that all their "secret" email messages had, in fact, been overheard and recorder by "40 UK analysts."
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_KBzIfb58AZk/SwsdevZyi2I/AAAAAAAAACY/Py1xU5g6Wq...
I wonder which Diplomat gets the "Buffoon of the Year" award?
Who watches the watchers?
Not sure it is safe to reply to this.
If it isn't safe, then it is even more necessary.
Fuck the NSA.
Seek not 'safety', seek a brawl with the goons.
This week your job is to go out and pick a fight with a stranger.
I would like to see the Nobel Peace Prize taken away from traveling golf player and given to Honk Kong guy. This is the only way for the committee to redeem itself.
But how can they redeem themselves after giving it to Kissinger?
There's nothing like mass murder of a country's population to bring peace to a region.
And then there's Menachem Begin's Peace Prize . . .
Assange has a point, methinks.
You guys have it all wrong. You can not simply kill people for a peace prize. You need to do it within a Vatican timetable, along a pentagrammatical ley line, and using incendiary devices so as to properly immolate the sacrifice to the delight of Moloch. Barack has pioneered the field by doing this remotely via drones, cutting out leaky middlemen who are not of advantageous blood. THAT TAKES SKILLZ.
But how can they redeem themselves after giving it to Kissinger?
Not to mention Arafat, Carter, Gore, and Obama.
To name a few.
They are far, far, far beyond redemption. Maybe if they all hung themselves that would be a good first step.
As cougarw so eloquently put it, US security is now officially the enemy of the free world.
What free world?
Nice quote, one for posterity:
how can anyone from the doj say the words "department of justice", with out having shit come out their nose from laughter.....webster better get busy and redifine those words....
I stopped calling it the "criminal justice system" years ago and call it the "criminal system".
...trouble is now all the systems are criminal....
Oh that's nice,
Who said that?
heh - finally, a confirmation that not all commenters on an article, read that article first. :-)
Didn't down-arrow you, but it's in boldface near the top of the posting.
Lol:)
Gimme a break, i'v been drinking,
And JA tends to waffle, so I just scanned it,
The operations of secret intelligence agencies aiming at the manipulation of public opinion generally involve a combination of cynical deception with the pathetic gullibility of the targeted populations. There is ample reason to believe that the case of Edward Snowden fits into this pattern. We are likely dealing here with a limited hangout operation, in which carefully selected and falsified documents and other materials are deliberately revealed by an insider who pretends to be a fugitive rebelling against the excesses of some oppressive or dangerous government agency. Details here: http://osnetdaily.com/2013/06/how-to-identify-cia-limited-hangout-op/
All this being said - i am feeling most comfortable now knowing where "The Cloud" exists...UTAH!
That piece of fucking shit who got the peace prize less than 6 months into the job while blowing the fuck out of poor cunts in a far off African country and still does to this day should have his fucking 'Prize' rammed up his arse, or given to the poor cunts who he deems fit to blow up.
The state of humanity makes me fucking sick, people fawning over that cunt who runs the USA and doing the exact opposite of what he says, and still waving the bastard cunt on make me sick.
Barry Fucking Sotero? Piece of fucking filth. Second rate bad actor, teleprompter clown? Shit on the bottom of my shoe? Damn right the retard is. Shows us all what we have become. An old man told me a long time ago that human avarice would be the end of us all. You know what? The old man was right, putting up with fucking filth like this bastard.
I'm not religious but God help us all.
A man disgusted in what humanity has finally become.
I am nothing like the cunts who parade in our collective names. And I doubt many of you lot are either.
hold on , im gonna call them and see if they will give us permission to protest....
Cookie cutter bipeds in a cookie cutter world.

The idea that Snowy is being charged is laughable,
And disgusting,
So Snowden is a criminal for telling on the criminals, and Manning is a criminal for showing the world the criminals in action.
That's rich.
Now going out to the garage to check the motor-mounts and install a parachute speed-arrest system.
watch this than vote who the barbaric criminals are.....bradley or usa usa usa..

Remote control assassination ?
Article 3 - The Judicial Branch, Section 3 - Treason
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies...
The Four Rs
Rejection: Quit paying, quit obeying
Revolution: "...it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government..."
Retribution: Is there really any place for these sociopaths in a restored civil and Constitutional society?!
Restoration: Restore the Constitutional republic
It truly saddens me that so many American citizens are OK with their Gubmint spying intensely and building profiles on them for some future likely malicious use. Not only are they not feeling like raising a protest, they simply do not care due to sheer ignorance. They will in the not too distant future pay for this. Perhaps dearly.
The corrupt spying, the fetish for control, and the twisted notions about the scope and role of Gubmint have been exposed. The potential risks are ovvious. E. Snowden gets it and is a hero for sounding the alarm. But far too many either do not get it or haven't the courage to face the tyrannist.
In anutshell--well put. Milestones
Yes, the situation truly is sicko. It seems that just about everyone "on the dole" in some small way imagines their life is better as a result. Apparently most people believe a free $100 or $1000 or $10000 per year improves their lives more than living on a planet without dominant predators (a world without predators-DBA-government). And so they sanction, support and vote-for the predators.
Apparently these people have no freaking idea how much better their lives would be in a world not controlled by the nastiest predators in the history of the universe.
They are so misguided, and so wrong.
You guys know what we're experiencing today is the sum total of the coup that took over the U.S. government back in 2000; that 911 was no accident, that the PNAC playbook is still being followed by the neo-con minions still running things, headed by the Dark one himself, Dick Cheney.
Obama's not the leader, you must dig much deeper.
And to the 10th power on the "Assange is right" comment. The truth will out.
Amen...
2nd Amen
Make that a third Amen. And one of their goals is population reduction.
A Soylent Green moment, "I'm going Home", Edward G. Robinson's final bow to this world.
And then, after the radioactivity and viral epidemics have died down, the elite will emerge from their hidden lairs, to begin the re-population of the planet.
This will require prodigious sexual activity, particularly on the part of the older elite males.
"You guys know what we're experiencing today is the sum total of the coup that took over the U.S. government back in 2000; that 911 was no accident, that the PNAC playbook is still being followed by the neo-con minions still running things, headed by the Dark one himself, Dick Cheney.

There...fixed it for ya
Just in case you haven't had enough coincidence theories for the day, Activist Post seems to think we are all dead pretty soon.
http://www.activistpost.com/2013/06/depopulating-entire-region-of-countr...
That's not controversial. The powers that be specialize in depopulation and wastelands.
I don't have to watch unsolved mysteries any more, I just come here and take in the comments. Even if its just crazy talk it can be great fiction!
The "elites" had better stop this shit. They are getting closer to revolution and "VIVA LIBERTIE!" Bradley manning was a little jerk, but Snowden, HE is no traitor.
Author is correct, the torch has been passed to the next gen. Do they rise or fall?
I am all for the shootin' to start, from the financial criminals that were never charged, to the corrupt criminal politicians, to the corrupt and criminal government agency criminals, we are ASS DEEP in dipshits and corrupt assholes.
IF the "system" does not take care of them, the "we will".
Mark my words, people WILL stop paying taxes to support this shit, and killings will increase of the elite criminals.
It is just only NOW we are starting to recognize who far these pricks have bent the curve, the awakening will be slow, but once awakened, swiftly will justice be.
I agree with all your points except Bradley Manning being a "little jerk". What he did was hold true to the oath he took when he entered military service. He tried to point out the war crimes & atrocities to his superior officers and when they laughed him out of the room, threatening him for speaking out, took matters into his own hands. He's not a "little jerk", I think he's courageous and a patriot. And he sure as hell shouldn't be on trial for anything, in fact, he should have been promoted and given a medal!
You delineate many truths, but to call Bradley Manning a "little jerk"? And by that, one can assume that were you to witness the doubletap murder of a dozen or so innocent People (from a helicopter gun ship), you would keep it to yourself? You're all right with murder--as long as it's those "towel heads"? Is that what you are about...
Bradley Manning was IN the service, and knew what he was doing. and YES, he had responsibilities to his fellow troops. In the Armed Srvices, there is no democracy.
The NSA is a different thing entirely (in my mnd). We can agree to disagree n that finde little point.
As for the "towelheads" or any other "religion" that calls isteslf a religion of peace, yet circumcises young girls brutally, have no rights to women or children, and they actually "eat organs of enemies" and sodomize corpses. Then YEAH I am good with that. Reason being, the particualr "towelheads" you talk of and root for, if there are as bad as I have said above then
WATERBOARD THE SHIT OUT OF them and STOP SPYING on ALL OF OUR AMERICAN CITIZENS.
Hell you have to make some distinctiions and not throw all "towelheads" in the same crazy bag. They are not the same, and Bradley Manning frogot that. He also forgot that he was a soldier.
Snowden OTOH, is a different and FAR more inportant case.
Bradley Manning is a litmus test of progressive liberals, I would not celebate him at all.
The actual contributions of Assange and Snowden pale in comparison to the mighty achievements that resulted in Mr. Obama being awarded his well deserved Nobel Prize. Ack!.....gag.....gulp.....swallow, swallow....puke.
The Norwegians are a bit slow but I think they will realize one day what a monumental fukkup they did and ask the coin and money back.
