Edward Snowden Leaves Hong Kong On Flight To Moscow

Tyler Durden's picture

Edward Snowden is no longer in Hong Kong. About an hour ago, the Hong Kong Authority released a statement which says that the NSA whistleblower has left Hong Kong today "on his own accord through a lawful and normal channel" which was yet another slap in the face of the US, saying the US provisional arrest warrant "did not fully comply with the legal requirements under Hong Kong law."

In fact, not only did the HK authority defy the US arrest warrant, but it officially demands that the US clarify its own hacking of Hong Kong computer systems:

"Meanwhile, the HKSAR Government has normally written to the US Government requesting clarification on earlier reports about the hacking of computer systems in Hong Kong by US government agencies. The HKSAR Government will continue to follow up on the matter so as to protect the legal rights of the people of Hong Kong."

So having been given the blessing of HK (and thus China) to defy the US, Snowden is now en route to Moscow (see flight tracker below), from where he is said he may continue further to Iceland, although according to a conflicting report from Russia's Interfax his ultimate destination is Havana, Cuba, while some note that he may be headed to Caracas Venezuela instead. Of course, he may just remain in Moscow: it's not as if Putin will comply with any American extradition order.

Somewhat surprisingly, Wikileaks appears directly involved:

More From SkyNews:

The whistleblower Edward Snowden, who leaked details about US snooping, has left Hong Kong for Russia, according to reports.

His departure was revealed on the website of the Hong Kong newspaper the South China Morning Post, which said that Russia was not thought to be his intended final destination.

It is thought that the eventual destination could end up being Iceland or Ecuador.

He is understood to have left on the Russian airline Aeroflot flight SU213.

The paper said it left Hong Kong around 11am local time (4am UK time) and was due to arrive in Moscow around 5.15pm local time (1pm UK time). It is believed to be currently in the air.

The White House had asked Hong Kong to extradite him, after he was charged in the US with espionage.

An Icelandic newspaper reported four days ago that Snowden had asked Iceland for political asylum.

The website of the South China Morning Post said: "US whistleblower Edward Snowden has left Hong Kong on an Aeroflot flight to Moscow, credible sources have confirmed to the South China Morning Post.

"Moscow will not be his final destination."

The Hong Kong government later confirmed Snowden had left and said that he did so legally and voluntarily.

"Meanwhile, the HKSAR Government has formally written to the US Government requesting clarification on earlier reports about the hacking of computer systems in Hong Kong by US government agencies.

"The HKSAR Government will continue to follow up on the matter so as to protect the legal rights of the people of Hong Kong."

The Russian President's office said it has not been given any information about Mr Snowden's imminent arrival.

Track Snowden's flight in real time via Flightradar 24: flight AFL213.

Unfotunately people are brought up to belive that the government is the country.  Drill that into peoples heads from a young enough age and the very idea that opposing government actions could be patriotic becomes totally nonsensical.

We need to find a way to communicate the idea that:

1. The PEOPLE are the country.
2. The government is created by the people for the people (now where have I heard that line before?)
3. As soon as point 2 no longer applies to a government, it ceases to be legitimate.  Most western governments fall into this category.

Getting the message out isn't the hard part.  Getting through the indoctrination is.

Why are you sad? Read through the debates in the Constitutional Convention. There were many opposed to this type of government, good upstanding, well respected, logical people, and many others who boycotted the Convention for what they knew it was. This nation was conceived in discord and you are simply continuing the thread of vigilance and skepticism that engenders it. Consider yourself a Free man. Godspeed.

A simple reading of the Declaration of Independence tells us what we must do.

However, it must be up to them to make the fist Big Move, or I fear we lose the Moral Advantage.

Nor do I wish to break the "law" even if it is not Constitutional.

These people have a lot of guns and what not, but they are evil and weak in many ways.

We CAN win.

I still think we can win peacefully, but we must abrogate the power of the Monster.

RT reports that Snowden's final destination is Venezuela. I doubt he will be safe there for long.

No one is talking about the economic consequences of the vast spying by the US - 97 billion pieces of intelligence a month though 3 billion were from the US.  How much economic advantage did that convey to the US?  Will any country that was spied upon ever buy any US telecommunication equipment?  Will the Chinese buy iPhones now that they know that the US was hacking billions of their SMS messages?

This is FUBAR.  Surely Senators Feinstein, Rubio and the rest must be feeling a draft knowing that the quantum computers of the alphabet soup agencies are sorting through their last decade of communications at the speed of light.  Snowden exposed that.

It should make them feel slightly nervous to know that all the parties and counter parties to their shady political deals are known by omnipresent, omnipotent machines.  It should make them even more nervous to know that men, maybe not of their persuasion or liking, are accessing that information.  They have lost control.  The blackmailer has the information.  Simply because they have not received the call or been handed the extortion letter does not mean they are home free. They like the rest of us are subject to the knock on the door.

Had this been handled properly, hearings could have been held behind closed doors.  The damage could have been contained.

The excesses could have been reeled in.  Unfortunately this government has chosen to treat whistleblowers as criminals. By not affording Snowden the protection of a whistleblower, they have pushed him into the hands of the Russians.  Fools, damn fools, all of them.

China labels US a ‘villain’ after latest Snowden claims

China has called the US a “villain” following the latest wave of accusations against Washington over cyber surveillance by former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, in a sign that the case could add pressure to ties between the world’s two largest economies.

The South China Morning Post quoted Mr Snowden in its newest report as saying that the US National Security Agency “does all kinds of things like hack Chinese cell phone companies to steal all of your SMS data.”

This followed allegations by Mr Snowden a day earlier that Washington had hacked into Tsinghua University, home to one of China’s main telecoms network backbones, as recently as January.

“These, along with previous allegations, are clearly troubling signs. They demonstrate that the United States, which has long been trying to play innocent as a victim of cyber attacks, has turned out to be the biggest villain in our age,” Xinhua, China’s official news agency, said in an editorial published Sunday.

If China is going to export trillions worth of manufactured goods to the US in exchange for USD, and buy a lesser value of US goods, those excess dollars MUST eventually end up in Treasuries - even if China trades those dollars for something else.  Flows have to balance. That is why the notion of China dumping Treasuries is nonsense. Someone has to hold those Treasuries, and why would China take an unnecessary loss?

Now, China could adjust the maturity of the dollars it holds. They could substitute short maturity for long or vice versa, but that is a different issue. That is just money management 101.

My theory is that it is a limited hangout (controlled release) to further frighten the sheep and stifle public discussion of the criminal activities of government.

The government is being deliberately discredited (by many 'insiders', beginning with Jeffrey Sachs) in a move towards the 'end game', but 'they' don't want the public chattering about it or getting any bright ideas about taking any independent action that might derail the planned takedown.

The ZOG wants you to be afraid - very afraid! - so that their presented solution will be cheered by the sheep. Problem, reaction, solution ... checkmate!

Being on that flght ties in with the HKSAR statement.

- Will he pop up on RT.com for a live interview later today? Perhaps. Stay tooned.

- Will he in fact stay in Moscow and be granted political asylum from Obama's "Land of The (Not-So) Free"? Perhaps. That would be a huge - and welcome - humiliation for Obama and his slimeball spies in Forte Meade.

- Will he appear on RT.com in a few weeks with his own show exposing Obama criminality? Perhaps.

So whats wrong with this story? all media worldwide is reporting his itinerary. Seems fishy to me. And RT reports a different flightnumber:

It is just too public.

EDIT: same flight actually...

My Spidey sense is also tingling,

Irish state media are leading with it, that is flippin weird,

They haven't even mentioned Snowy in a week,

and they never run any US story of a sensitive nature unless they get a greenlight from the Ballsbridge Fortress,

There is something fishy going on here, but I don't know what,

If you recall Ronnie Biggs, he was only allowed to stay in Brazil when he produced a child in Brazil. He did that and stayed there for years before returning home, wrongly believing that the UK Authorities would be lenient with him after so many years. They were not and went thru a very choreographed show of arresting him on the plane when it arrived in London.

As to Biggs and other exiles, weird how they always end up wanting to or going "home".. even if it means prision.

Indeed.

In Biggs's case, he was getting old and wanted to step foot on his motherland before he died. I strongly advised his son at the time that it was a serious mistake because the British Authorities are vindictive and would never show any compassion towards him. Ronnie thought they would or might. He was wrong.

He should have stayed in St Teresa (Rio) which is not a bad place to live.

Can of worms for Obama, Beluga caviar for the rest of us.  This is major egg on the face of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.  Hong Kong, tiny little Hong Kong, stiffs him.  The bloom is off the rose handed to him by Sweden and Norway.  What's that old saying...the whole world is watching?  Contrary to what some say, the alphabets are not independent.  Rather, they're the guy with the hammer just waiting for whomever is in the Oval Office to let them go after some nails.  The capability is always there; it just depends on the morality, or lack thereof, of the man who calls the shots...whether it pertains to torture or war or droning or eavesdropping.  Whether or not Bush started this, Obama didn't stop it.  No President ever gives up an ounce of power he finds after the swearing in, and he spends the next few years trying to add to what is already there.  Anyone who has been close to that office knows POTUS is in a coccoon atop a pedestal, and that kind of power and blind admiration would corrupt the best of men...and the best of men never run for the office.  There is an inherent character flaw in anyone so egotistical that he or she would seek the office.

Snowden's flight to freedom is going to bring out a lot more whistleblowers, because there are a lot of folks in the alphabets uncomfortable, angry and outraged over the direction things have taken.  Real patriots, meaning people who take that oath seriously, are everywhere.

There are real risks out there.  I don't doubt that for a second. The point is...well everybody knows the Franklin quote by now.

I am dumb found that people are making this such a big deal.  Didn't people watch Enemy of the States movie back in the 90s?  I thought this NSA listening to the people was already public domain knowledge!  Maybe the US government should put Will Smith on esponiage trial instead.  That was whistle blowing on a hollywood scale!

Yep, we saw the movie. Nope, we're not surprised. Rather, we're vindicated because until now we were dismissed as conspiracy theorists.

By the way, go fuck yourself. I'd wager you're one of the Obama fanboys who voted for him twice, because their M.O. is to act blase about this, perhaps to assuage their guilt for voting for B.O.

Safe flight to Snowden, FU to the US government trash that betrayed the trust of the American people.  Obama, Holder, Clapper, King, Gram, McCain, Feinstein, Schumer, Cheney, and all those involved in spying on Americans must be tried for high crimes against this country.

Snowden is not a traitor, the American government officials behind this spying are the traitors.  How can you call a person who alerted people to the fact that their rights were violated a traitor?  And how can you charge him with Espionage when Nancy (no brain) Pelosi said he was lying??  Sorry Mr. Holder,  Obama, Cheney, McCain, Gram and Ms. Feinstein, Pelosi and Mr. King, there is nothing in the law that allows you to violate the constitution as you so desire.  This secret FISN court judge needs to be disbarred he does not believe in the constitution nor is he willing to uphold it and that is grounds for disbarment.

I do not even believe this is happening in my country but when a country elected a man like Obama whose father was a communist, who studied the Saul Alinsky rules for Radicals and has friends like Bill Ayers and who has shown disdain for everything American, this should have been expected.  Stay in Africa, that is precisely the right distance from America.

It is my deep suspicion that the NSA is under the direction of an entity of sinister intent. Using NSA gathered info to manipulate events. This sinister entity is connected to certain Jewish occult organizations, Jesuit conspirators and       Illuminati /  Masonic orders. These occultists have almost completely usurped the will of the people. They are the puppet masters behind main stream media, the political parties, many judges, lawmakers and military organizations. They control them by manipulating their lusts and through blackmail.  666, NWO, call it what you will. It is what it is. These would-be masters of the world think they will win. They will be exposed as those who have produced so much pain and suffering to all people by their own supreme master manipulator for the purpose of bringing all glory and honor to his evil self. The bible sheds light on how this will all play out. Read it and believe it.

It is too bad that the politicians are not afraid of the NSA. That much data would prove that they are all criminals beyond a doubt in any court of law....

But the first goal of the machine is to make sure the machine keeps going and that requires a criminal congress.

The Hong Kong area was hit hard with all the MBS trash and Lehman cratering. No wonder they are not as cooperative with extradition of suspects.Kissinger wanders around freely even though he has an Interpol arrest warrant out for him from years ago ("all a big misunderstanding").No doubt the NSA was listening to HK diplomatic exchanges for years. It is amazing how much dirty laundry is getting aired these days.Perhaps this and the Bradley Manning case and all the other conscience driven whistleblower cases (Daniel Ellsberg?) point to the lack of a methodology for publicizing data in a process. If whistleblowers know they are screwed and expect to be hung out to dry, where is the incentive ? The carrot or the stick? Or just the stick? It is not like these people gained financially, aside from fleeting fame.Is everyone suggesting that there is a great novel to be written? Is that it? Or perhaps they truly believe in the Constitution as written? Over twelve years in Afghanistan and now we are negotiating with the bad guys? Sounds like the Paris peace talks with the North Vietnamese all over again.Haven't we heard this record before?
