The obvious message I draw from these timeline charts is that progression towards the secret surveillance police state has not happened overnight and not just since 9/11. And it has little to do with protecting the citizenry from "terrorism" or anything else. It's all about State Power & Control.
The foundations were laid many years ago and it's been implemented step-by-step by successive governments. Only when it necessarily became more overt - as in after 9/11 and affects more and more individuals in their daily lives - has it made the headlines.
