China, Russia Begin Naval Drills In Sea Of Japan

Tyler Durden's picture

Six weeks after South Korea and the US flexed their naval muscles in a joint naval exercise, a mere month after China protested over joint Japan-US naval drills, and amid growing US tensions with the Russians (and well pretty much every other nation in the world), a Chinese fleet consisting of seven naval vessels departed Qingdao to join in Sino-Russian naval drills scheduled to begin this weekend. The eight-day exercise is expected to be conducted at the sea area and airspace of the Peter the Great Gulf in the Sea of Japan with the Chinese fleet. A total of 18 vessels, one submarine, three fixed-wing planes, five carrier-based helicopters and two teams of special forces from the two countries will participate in the exercise.

Via China.org,

A Chinese fleet consisting of seven naval vessels departed from east China's harbor city of Qingdao on Monday to participate in Sino-Russian joint naval drills scheduled for July 5 to 12.

The fleet consisted of four destroyers, two escort vessels and a supply ship, marking the largest number of naval forces that the Chinese navy has ever sent to take part in Sino-foreign naval exercises.

The eight-day exercise is expected to be conducted at the sea area and airspace of the Peter the Great Gulf in the Sea of Japan, and the Chinese fleet will be anchored in Vladivostok during the drill.

A total of 18 vessels, one submarine, three fixed-wing planes, five carrier-based helicopters and two teams of special forces from the two countries will participate in the exercise.

The eight-day maneuvers will focus on joint maritime air defense, joint escorts and marine search and rescue operations.

The two navies conducted a six-day naval drill in the Yellow Sea in 2012.

Are you saying that Obama is not moving the US toward communism quickly enough? Or, perhaps, is it the old Communist vs. Fascist thing? Either way, free market capitalism in the West is pretty much a thing of the past.

You've got to remember that SpiritOfTruth is still living in the past, where Leonid Brezhnev presides over a Soviet Union which is a global threat to our precious bodily fluids.

He also thinks he's the reincarnation of Jesus (several of which can be found in any large city).

I get bored of replying to the NWO but I find it annoying that people are confused and waiting for some sort of confirmation of its implementation. Your understanding of a NWO order is clearly as a future pending one world government by the Elite for the Elite. I'd hate to be the bearer of bad news but they achieved that goal with the creation of the UN, IMF, World Bank and the state of Israel. The NWO you are waiting for are actually the Old World Order in that context. Everything you see happening around you is an attempt at preservation of this status quo. The internet blew the truth wide open about what globalisation really is and who it benefits. It wasn't that long ago that I was going about my business complete ignorant of the world around me. However the fact that I'm on here discussing this with everyone on ZH goes to show you the irreversible damage the internet has done to their centralized power. You and I are the NWO and that is exactly what they are trying to prevent/delay. The shake up of the power structure is inevitable, there is nothing new about it and it most certainly isn't a bad thing or something to fear unless you are an oligarch family who's balls will be on the chopping block by an angry mob with sharp pitchfoks.

Exactly.  The US thrives on tension in East Asia.  It's a decades-old game.

Maybe the Chinese are just getting warmed up to join the US in the upcoming RIMPAC exercises this summer (Russia was at RIMPAC last year).  Why, one could almost imagine all of these nations coordinating theatrics for the masses.

Lets see....how many folks the world over overestimated the Chinese economy? How many folks will/have overestimated the Chinese military and its abilities? I would not underestimate the Japanese and the very quiet adjustments that they have made concerning their military in the last few years. The Chinese outnumber them 11 to 1 so the odds are about even in a fight.

Theses excercises are meant to find out how screwed up the ships, the crew and the training readiness.  Usually it is pretty bad.  In this case they are measuring how different ships with language issues work together as well.  They have to justify all the money spent on these rust buckets somehow.  Cheaper just to use subs but not as showy.

China doesn't need a big navy, they could just march a big army into the Middle East game over. Iran would make a good forward base. Oh and there is those ballistic anti carrier missiles the Chinese are reported to have, nuclear tipped could take out a battle group just like that.

Ever heard of Genghis Khan or Attila the Gun?

The Chinese have thousands of 1000 men units that are so self-sufficient, that each unit can start over with civilization.

American units? Well, if they don't have a monstrous supply line, they are fucked. And w/o the iToys, their suicide rate would climb much higher than the present 22 per day.

It's not fanciful at all. All china has to do is traverse Afghanistan and they are in Iran. As the crow flies some 850 miles. Yes this distance would increase for ground troops, but it would be manageable especially with limitless manpower of a country with 1.3bn people.

I often wondered why the allies were actually in Afghanistan, maybe the real reason is China.

China and Russia can win the war against the US without firing a shot. Bernanke and the Federal Reserve are helping destroy the US currency and have encouraged exporting of manufacturing and technology. More and more  US citizens living off the government tit rather than producing.

China and Russia can easily buy US senators and congress members through lobbyist. Once weakened financially the military is no longer affordable and China can just take Japan and the other Asian countries

Easy, Chinese culture is very patient. It took hundreds of years to build some of their infrastructure. They have the patience to wait out the fall of the US.

The real naval power is behind the scenes. Not the large surface warships, but the submarine forces and the Naval Air and Missile Forces. These are what will attempt to deny sea access to the US Navy in the Western Pacific.

The USN has the power to defeat the Russian and Chinese surface warships with ease. It is the air and submarine forces that present the real threat and the USN knows it only too well. The first Carrier to absorb a torpedo or missile would leave the USN with a big choice. How many casualties will they accept? Just a couple torpedo and missile hits on major USN warships might be all they need to do.

Towards a World War III Scenario: The Dangers of Nuclear War“ - by Prof. Michel Chossudovsky

http://www.globalresearch.ca/towards-a-world-war-iii-scenario-the-real-i...

Read through “Towards a World War III Scenario: The Dangers of Nuclear War“ by Prof. Michel Chossudovsky, "a book (available in e-book format as well) that cuts through the chaos and deception to show the reader exactly how and why humanity is facing an existential threat. It is a wake-up call that the world is being pushed towards catastrophic conflict." SYRIA is one of the targets to take over (in near future), with the next one is IRAN!!!

This book shows that, incredibly, the same deception that the Western governments and media perpetrated to facilitate the war on Iraq less than a decade ago is now being repeated with Iran. But the real threat to world peace and the future of humanity is not Iran and its non-existent nuclear weapons program – it is the US-led alliance of NATO powers and their Middle East partners, Israel, Turkey and the handful of Gulf Arab monarchs.

The real agenda behind the drive for war is imperialist control of natural resources in a region that possesses some 60 per cent of all known reserves of oil and gas – the lifeblood of the capitalist global economy. Cloaked with the fictitious cover of “war on terror”, “international security” and “humanitarian intervention”, realities are being turned upside down.

The agenda for global control of resources is a long-term dynamic that Washington and its NATO allies have had on the drawing board for decades. The nine-year war on Iraq is but one episode of this unfolding scheme of conquest. The NATO-orchestrated regime change in Libya is also part of this military roadmap, which now has Iran in its sights. But this war lust will not stop with Iran. It is about global conquest by Western powers in which ultimately China and Russia are also marked out as future enemies.

Disturbingly, the US-led agenda of permanent war has incorporated the doctrine of pre-emptive strikes with all military options, including the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons and a new generation of so-called monster bombs. The imminent military showdown in the Persian Gulf could turn out to be not just a regional explosion of latent conflicts – it may be the trigger for a conflagration between global powers armed with nuclear arsenals capable of unleashing destruction that puts the very future of the planet in the balance.

The Western public has a vital task in preventing their governments’ drive for war. Michel Chossudovsky’s book is an essential tool in equipping the public for that task by showing them the truth of what is at stake.
