Crude Cracks $102 As Egyptian Army "Ready To Die" - Live Feed

Tyler Durden's picture

WTI Crude futures just topped $102 per barrel (the highest price in 14 months) as Reuters reports 16 dead and Egypt's high command saying the army was ready to die to defend Egypt's people against terrorists and fools, in a response to Islamist President Mohamed Mursi. Their comment (via Facebook) read "We swear to God that we will sacrifice even our blood for Egypt and its people, to defend them against any terrorist, radical or fool," was issued 3 hours after Mursi's TV statement.

3:42 AM LOCAL TIME: THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE IN TAHRIR WITH A HUGE FIGHT AND AUTOMATIC GUNFIRE REPORTED AT CAIRO UNIVERSITY. 16 DEAD 200 INJURED

On a side note the Brent-WTI spread is collapsing back to pre-Mubarak levels...

Islamic radicalism started in Egypt.    The middle east needs a flush to get the superstitious lunatics out.  Maybe starting with Egypt.  In saying that we the West should be the f*ck out of those countries, let them sort their own problems out, cause we got a sh*tload here

No No No.

You seam to miss the point of robbing them their one remaining and allowed economic contribution.  The OIL must be drained there, first..

Then the water, just in case.

This is some old, evil shit going on here cause Reason also flourished there once upon a time.

Of course it isn't OK. But one needs to realize it's a pretty standard technique to shut down people's rationality to display threats to children.

This image shows up as shit is going down in Egypt, when in reality it's 1) from Syria, 2) from years ago, 3) not a christian kid, all in direct contradiction to the caption on the photo.

This photo is designed to shut down people's powers of reason and to get them pissed off at Muslims. Frankly, it's bullshit psyops from some party interested in manipulating us. Fuck them. You want to protect children, expose the truth and don't fall for crap like this.

Plan b was to get everyone to be excited about a carbon tax that would sop up excess liquidity, lower living standards, expand government even further, and create a huge trough for the pigs on wall st.

When that plan fell through we went to plan c, which involves a lot more shooting and chaos, but still keeping the spice flowing.

Now it looks like the book might be going out the window entirely. Too many balls in the air, and not enough believers.

IMHO if the Egyptian military are anything they are pragmatists.  If they have learned anything after repeated wars with Israel it is that they can't win and they don't like the repeated humiliation of getting their ass handed to them by the IDF.

If Egypt sinks into a civil war, and that is possible, then the USA will have it's hand forced. How they intend to react is anyones guess. But given the way things are, and the US influence with Egyptian military command, I suspect the US would back fully the take over of Egypt by a military government with full martial law powers, extending perhaps for years to come.

The problem is, that Egypt is coming apart because of a systemic economic collapse of their economy, such as it is. A growing population and a sinking economy. Plus a feud over Nile water is brewing with the neighbors to the South.  Add to this extreme weather in food producing nations that will result in food price inflation. This food inflation in a poor nation like Egypt is like fuel on the fire.

The basic economic, resource and food problems faced by Egypt will defy any military government to solve. Plus an equal split between secular Egyptians wanting western style social freedom and the other half wanting Islamic rule. Egypt is headed for bloodshed and a real horrow show of violence. Hard times coming.

This is all about food prices and subsidized fuel.  Some people mention secularized Egyptians, who seek Western social freedoms:  I think that there are vanishiningly few such people there.  They exist, of course, but the numbers are tiny.  How do I know?

91 PERCENT of Egyptian women between the ages of 15 and 49 have been subjected to genital mutilation:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/evelyn-leopold/female-circumcism----90-p_b....  That really tells you something about the place, and the values the people there hold.  They'd rather have their women oozing with painful sores for their entire adult lives, enduring extra dangerous childbirth and agonizing sex, than embarass their family by enjoying sex.

Who are the other 9 percent?  Probably Christians, and the couple of Jews who remain.

I still feel sorry for them; it would be terrible to not be able to feed your kids.  But their demographics are out of control vis a vis their resources, and I see no secularization down the pike.

You know because Huffpos said so?....DYOR

You should not pretend to know what Egyptians want based on what HuffPOS puts out.

I think that there are vanishiningly few such people there.  They exist, of course, but the numbers are tiny.

Check out some video clips of Non-Muslim or Wrong-Muslim Arabs, Priests, children, hung and or beheaded, then dragged through the streets after having their organs eaten.

These actions make people cheer when they are told to, regardless of what they want or believe.

The Huff POS reference/assumption about the tiny number is due to Intimidation Via Brutal Public MURDER!

I am not sure what your point is.  Are you claiming that fewer women in Egypt are genitally mutilated, than the number I cited?  Here's another source:

If you are claiming that fewer are, please provide a citation.  I chose the HuffPost article as a source of that particular number because it was convenient; it is a widely accepted number.  If you happen to hate that source (I'm not a fan of it really), that's totally irrelevant: what is relevant is the percentage of women mutilated.

I would think that if there were all these budding secularists, they wouldn't be mutilating their daughters.  The secularized ones don't: but as you see, virtually all Egyptians do.  In fact THAT WAS MY POINT:  of course people are terrified by mob action.  So you look at their PRIVATE ACTIONS to see what they value.  Egypt is a peasant society, and the vast majority of its citizens are not budding secularists, as demonstrated by the mutilation stats.

I certainly do feel great empathy of any and all of the terrorized secularists there.  Good luck to them; they'll need any luck they can get.

BTW, I don't think you even read the HuffPost article that I linked that you are raging about.  It had nothing to do with secularization rates.  It was strictly about mutilation rates in different countries.  It is easy to rage against an article that you haven't read.

I watched the Syrian beheading frenzy and I'd like to believe that no more than 6 people in that crowd wanted it to happen but they were powerless to stop it. Now I just want a 500 lb bomb dropped on their heads.

I hope the Egyptians find the representative government they seek. The odds are against them, as usually the worst kind of people float to the top of disorganized movements, like Morsi apparently did.. They must establish a core identity and unification of purpose, and refuse to be led into the weeds by charismatic sociopaths or "friends bearing gifts".

A good principle to unify a movement around is "no victim, no crime". This one idea could neuter dictatorial power like nothing else.

Maybe oil and gas prices will spike, but the US consumer is very resilient and will sluff off any gas price increases and continue to spend based on strong consumer confidence in their job security and income growth, all on the back of the improving US economic numbers. In fact, US consumers are breaking out into another cycle of borrow and spend based on their rising net wealth from the house price rises and their increased 401K wealth. As household wealth and security spike, and their children benefit from their higher educations to move into the high pay scale labor force, even the empty nesters will be spending and moving up the property ladder driving the virtuous cycle of house price wealth.

In short, gas prices no longer represent a significant factor in US house hold spending, instead the US consumer is flush with wealth effect cash thanks to sound Fed policies of zero interests rates. The modern upwardly mobile America is seeing their investment in Higher Education make America the world center of Value Added Creative work while sending less creative production jobs to China, this in turn brings higher spending power to the American via cheap imports. The new generations of College educated Americans make our labor force weighted towards highly paid design and engineering jobs, along with the lucrative management and financial services sector. As more Americans live and work in these high end jobs, their higher incomes translate into a boom in small business and service sector jobs.

The cycle of zero interest rates, housing and stock market wealth effect, the education boom leading to high end jobs for the new American youth and the ever lower consumer prices from imports of manufactured goods, puts the American consumer into the higher  end of consumer confidence. All this makes gas prices irrelevant in the new American knowledge economy. Just as Bernanke planned it, America has moved post industrial into the world of knowledge economy jobs and wealth.

This post brought to you by the ghost of "Million Dollar Bonus".
