Live Egypt Feed As Morsi Rebuffs Military; Army Lays Out "Transition Roadmap"

Tyler Durden's picture

Update: the local army has already laid out the framework of what the upcoming "coup" will look like. via Reuters:

  • ARMY ROADMAP WOULD BE IMPLEMENTED IF PRESIDENT MURSI, OPPOSITION FAIL TO AGREE - SOURCES
  • ARMY ROADMAP WOULD PROVIDE FOR RULE BY INTERIM COUNCIL UNTIL CONSTITUTION CHANGED - SOURCES
  • ARMY ROADMAP ENVISIONS CONSTITUTION CHANGE WITHIN MONTHS, FOLLOWED BY PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION -SOURCES
  • ROADMAP SUBJECT TO AGREEMENT OF OPPOSITION SALVATION FRONT, OTHER FORCES ONCE DEADLINE EXPIRES -SOURCES

"The country is heading toward a clash and a civil war," warned Morsi's political opposition party leader after the President rebuffed demands for stability from the military (or else). As Bloomberg notes, the vaguely worded statement from Morsi's office that they would continue to walk the "path that was outlined" regardless of "any statements that could deepen the divisions between the sons of the nation, and could threaten social peace," is as clear a snub to the coup-threat as it comes without directly addressing them and has merely served to bolster the anti-Morsi protesting crowds in Cairo's Tahrir Square. Growing fears of tensions spilling over - and a closure of the Suez Canal - have pushed WTI crude prices back above $99. With 33 hours to the Military's deadline and crowds swelling even further, the celebrations yesterday are beginning to turn to anger once again.

The Morsi Timer counts down...

And tensions remain high...

WTI is surging...

As the Suez Canal chokepoint fears rise once again...

As long at ~30-40% of the government budget is used to subsidize wheat and fuel, I don't think any constitution is really going to make a difference....

So we're totally good for that mountain of I-think-they're-called-unfunded liabilities?

You can't use present annual costs when everything is debt financed and rates are low.

The difference is (mostly) currency status and access to oil.

In other words, it would be very much in the same league if we suddenly to start paying down the loan principal rather than barely covering interest.

wtf does egypt and the SUEZ canal have to do with the price of CRUDE??? WE PLANNED FOR THAT CONTINGENCY IN THE 80'S. VLCC's transit around africa, not through the suez... There are a multitude of pipelines that go to the med from saudi and iraq.... besides its China and Europe that get their oil thru Hormuz from terminals in the PG. let them worry... We get our crude from the western hemisphere and w. africa.... and in a real crunch we can divert our alaskan crude from asia to the good ole USA via the trans Panama pipeline. Now if we had the pipeline from Canada to the USA (XL-keystone) we would have even more supply, plus we can increase fracking...this is great to drive up prices based on anticipation versus reality. 12 million voted Morsi in and 20 million are demonstrating him out. Also what military intervention?? i thought morsi already replaced the mubarak mil leaders with his hand picked cronies... When will we wake up... Morsi was the obama hand picked muslim brother... another snafu by the incompetent, secret agenda one. Syria... again another snafu fubar by the self annointed one,... Libyia...if he touches it it turns to shit. Meantime this idiot is talking about energy from soccar balls and how africa will set the world ablaze if it moderizes with cars, air conditioners and other modern electrical devices. the "king of the world" is NAKED.... and the WORLD knows it.. Bring the clown home....better yet... DONT COME HOME.....

They just need some banking products In Egypt, mortgages and credit cards and sub prime auto loans for all ! That should remove that rebellious nature. You don't have time for rebellion when pmts are due.

So is it true that Egypt's military includes things that we'd consider like mostly private sector stuff, ie utilities, facilities and infrastructure construction companies?

Looks like the bureaucracy from the last regime didn't go anywhere. It'd be like impeaching the president and the beat goes on. This telecast is brought to you by Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics.

Atleast they announce when they're going to suspend the constitution.  Here in the States, the politicians just do it incrementally, day by day.

Please cue John Cale's "READY FOR WAR"!

Mercenaries are usless, disunited, unfaithful
They have nothing more to keep them in a battle
Other than a meager wage
Which is just about enough to make them wanna kill for you
But never enough to make them wanna die for ya

I'm just another soldier boy
I'm just another soldier boy
Looking for work
Looking for work
Looking for work

My rifle is my friend
My rifle is my friend
I clean my rifle everyday
I clean my rifle everyday
That's why my rifle is my friend

Ready for war, ready for war
Ready for war, ready for war
Ready for war, ready for war
Ready for war, ready for war

Did some work in Zaire, the jolly old Belgian Congo
Went back to Geneva to get paid
Back there in Geneva, that's were the money grows
That's were the money grows, that's were the money flows

They didn't wanna pay me
They didn't wanna pay me, but they did
Try to separate me from my money
is try to separate me from my life

Ready for war, ready for war
Ready for war, ready for war
Ready for war, ready for war
Ready for war, ready for war

Let's go to Moscow, let's go to Moscow

Seriously, when the U.S. armed services (and the allegedly imported Russian troops) begin shooting U.S. citizens in large numbers, which side are you going to be on? Will it depend on whether they are shooting people of your own race, your own religion, or your people on the RedTeam or BlueTeam?

it will be one very ugly, lopsided and likely very brief show if the brotherhood really does decide to try and hold out by force.

nobody on this planet is going to back them against the Egyptian military, and they have almost zero support at home, so a military defection driven civil war is not in the cards.

Morsi and the brotherhood are done, he might be wise to bail out now peaceably while he still can...
