Nicaragua Offers Edward Snowden Asylum, Venezuela Promptly Follows

Tyler Durden's picture

Update: First Nicaragua, now Venezuela.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Friday he had decided to offer asylum to former U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, who has petitioned several countries to avoid capture by Washington.

"I have decided to offer humanitarian asylum to the young American, Edward Snowden, so that in the fatherland of (Simon) Bolivar and (Hugo) Chavez, he can come and live away from the imperial North American persecution,"

Maduro told a televised parade marking Venezuela's independence day. Snowden is believed to be holed up in the transit area of a Moscow international airport.

And so the "lead investor" principle comes to the asylum world. Now everyone wants a piece of the pie.

Earlier:

Just the headline for now from AFP...

We can't help but wonder how long before the US Marines invade again and take him home...

Via Reuters,

Nicaragua's President Daniel Ortega said on Friday that he had received an asylum request from U.S. fugitive Edward Snowden and could accept the bid "if circumstances permit."

Via LaJornada,

President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, said today ready to grant asylum to the informant and U.S. secret services specialist Edward Snowden, and said he would "be happy, if circumstances allow."

Speaking at a rally against government supporters in Managua, Ortega confirmed that Snowden sought refuge in this country, through a letter delivered in recent days to the Nicaraguan embassy in Russia.

UPDATE: Via Russia Today,

"We are open, respectful of the right to asylum, and it is clear that if circumstances permit it, we would receive Snowden with pleasure and give him asylum here in Nicaragua," Ortega said at a public event.

Snowden needs to be VERY careful...

I can easily see a country which needs $$ (and which country does not want more these days) making a deal with the devil (Obama Admin) to accept him, and then later turn himover for big bucks.

And we all know...

Obama would pay BIG bucks to get him back in his clutches!

'Snowden' doesn't exist! The guy you saw interviewed by Greenwald was a well-rehearsed actor (whose birth name may, or may not, have been Snowden). IMO.

It's a PSYOP ... specifically to let everyone know - who didn't already know! - that they are being watched and had better be good/compliant sheep.

The CIA must piss their pants laughing at some of the comments in these Snowden threads....

I was initially suspicious just from watching 'Snowden's body language and presentation style in the Greenwald interview (as I first commented here). Then 'Bank Guy in Brussels' added background on the Brzezinski connections that immediately solidified my suspicions.

Since then, one whole month later, everything points to a psyop and nothing points to him being real.

The biggest 'tell' for me now is the complete absence of any photos of him or interviews/photos of his "girlfriend" - notwithstanding that every reporter on the planet is hunting for both of them. Oh, and his quoted background is as phony as Obomber's.

I think you have opened a strong point and every reason to be cautious.  He is getting close to Assange and that may be his undoing if Snowden is a double agent.  Afterall the govenments of all the worlds are owned, coerced or punished, by the USSA.  Snowden was not high enough in the system to be privy to mined data we cannot imagine.  This is just a test.  Do not adjust your sets.

Apart from the fact that Urban Redneck addressed only one of BGIB's many points, even that was not, IMO, a "solid" counter to the multiple Brzezinski connections.

If he's part of a psyop all that has happened in the country, nay the world, is rage by what has been revealed. Nobodiy is shutting up about it, they're questioning the usefulness and "LEGALITY" of 24/7/365 Orwellian monitoring of our communications" for our protection".

Which would seem to me to be the exact opposite of their long term interests, that is, us not knowing we are being monitored so we would continue to speak freely about our future intentions & motivations.

Spying means...gathering the information and the person or entity not knowing they have been spied upon, otherwise they run the risk of acting on planted information.

true nmewn, but consider this from an analysis of the novel Catch-22

Yossarian lost his courage after seeing Snowden's insides spill out all over the plane.

and consider this from ZBig's Between Two Ages : America's Role in the Technetronic Era

“Such a society would be dominated by an elite whose claim to political power would rest on allegedly superior scientific know-how. Unhindered by the restraints of traditional liberal values, this elite would not hesitate to achieve its political ends by the latest modern techniques for influencing public behavior and keeping society under close surveillance and control."

personally still on the fence on this one.   i would like to believe he's legit, but realize that my "likes" (and those of others like me, as well as everyone else) have been collected, catalogued, wordclouded, & analyzed and very possibly could be used to influence my behavior by creating a "person" who just so happens to have the same name of the character from a book whose title references the situation in which the entire world finds itself at this very moment in time -- a character who's just so happens to divulge a "secret" then gets his guts blown out which just so happens to trigger a loss of courage in the main character that prevents any escape from the situation in which he finds himself.

Catch 22 indeed.

Yes, valid points.

I've considered they did it to tamp down dissent, to let everyone know they are being watched and to make everyone shut up.

But I won't shut up and I would expect every freedom loving individual on the planet to not be cowed, they can only kill me or us once...and for what...calling them the sick & evil bastards they are?

We have found out they are doing it in the UK and France as well, its everywhere in supposedly free & open societies and we found out the depth & breadth of it because of Snowden.

I found this of interest...

“Intelligence community contractors have been shut out of all of the recent reforms,” says Angela Canterbury, director of policy at the Project On Government Oversight (POGO). “They received no coverage under the WPEA for federal employees, the PPD-19 for IC civil servants, and were carved out of the contractor whistleblower protections in the NDAA—based on objections from the Congressional intelligence committees—leaving them with no specific protections for whistleblowing under the law. If you look at intelligence contractors, they have no protections under any of the laws. It really is an accountability loophole.”

http://inthesetimes.com/working/entry/15130/snowden_leak_highlights_fewer_whistleblower_protections_for_federal_contrac/

He can't expect a fair trial here under whistleblower status...and I'm posting this for Snowden's benefit (if he reads it) before some snarky ass lawyer gets inside his head trying to convince him he can.

I think he's legit.

In a world where every body wants money, let's start a pool to fund the counter offer to the offer made by the GOV. We will need our own printing presses... but with so many of us, and modern color printer technology, I think we can keep up with the FED / Mint.  No seriously, we could start a fund to counteroffer to the Nicarguans to honor the asylum... what do you think we'd need, $100,000,000? I'll chip in $1000, and if 100,000 others do as well, we'd have it.

Isn't that how it's done in high stakes negotiations... counter offers? We the people need to kick our action up a few notches, if we ever expect to get any respect from the Banks / Gov's / Militaries. Fuck the Judges and the rest. We go for the jugular... $100,000,000 cash, for Snowden's safety... might as well include Assange and Manning on the deal and get them all bunk beds in the same dorm room.

How about like I said before, we just take the $100,000,000 and buy us an island, create a nation state, and issue citizenship... we put Assange / Manning / Snowden in charge... Greece has a couple of nice islands for sale, cheaper than the $100,000,000 lump sum. We can get them a boat too.

Everyone knows that OBL was a CIA asset used against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.  In 2001 he was dying of a genetic disease called Morfan's syndrome, which involved his kidneys and many other organs.  Since he only had a few months to live under the best of medical circumstances, the Company decided to use him as a patsy for the self-inflicted 9/11 attack and throw him under the bus.  The only video of him that wasn't an actor was the one right after the 9/11 attack, and he denied his involvement vehemently.  It's all sooooooo fucking obvious.

Best estimates are that Osama bin Laden died on December 14, 2001:

First, up until mid-December 13, 2001, the CIA had regularly been intercepting messages between bin Laden and his people. At that time, however, the messages suddenly stopped, and the CIA has never again intercepted a message.

Second, on December 26, 2001, a leading Pakistani newspaper published a story reporting that bin Laden had died in mid-December, adding:

“A prominent official in the Afghan Taleban movement . . . stated . . . that he had himself attended the funeral of bin Laden and saw his face prior to burial.”

Third, bin Laden had kidney disease. He had been treated for it in the American Hospital in Dubai in July 2001, at which time he reportedly ordered two dialysis machines to take home. If you have ever wondered what bin Laden was doing the night before the 9/11 attacks, CBS News reported that he was being given kidney dialysis treatment in a hospital in Pakistan.  And in January of 2002, Dr. Sanjay Gupta said – based on a video of bin Laden that had been made in either late November or early December of 2001 – that he appeared to be in the last stages of kidney failure.

Fourth, In July of 2002, CNN reported that bin Laden’s bodyguards had been captured in February of that year, adding: “Sources believe that if the bodyguards were captured away from bin Laden, it is likely the most-wanted man in the world is dead.”

Just a simple common sense question thrown in the field of mindless conspiracy where anyone can say that anything and be instantly believed sans evidence or reason. If Bin Laden died in 2001 why wouldn't Bush, languishing in the polls and desperate for good war news, simply pull off the same raid that happened recently?  Why wait (if he was dead) with political opponents clammoring about "not getting Bin Laden" when it could have simply been done.

After all, we know the same people who screw up situation after situation, run every program into bankruptcy and mismanage every project they touch are perfectly capable of pulling off highly complex, detailed conspiracies involving hundred operating with pin point exactness (lol)

It is only obvious to those who care about the truth.  In today's world, truth is an ideal which is often ignored, renedered as immaterial or spun out of proportion.

They have our psychological profiles down pat, know what triggers our emotions of desire, anger and so forth.

For every Snowden story, they either ignore it or give us a barrage of other information in the hopes to bury the truth.

I think Bin Laden was innocent of 9/11 as well.  Upon hindsight it doesn't make sense.  The organization always claimed responsibility for its successful attacks, yet denied 9/11.  They never showed the sophistication after 9/11.

I have already said that I am not involved in the 11 September attacks in the United States. As a Muslim, I try my best to avoid telling a lie. I had no knowledge of these attacks, nor do I consider the killing of innocent women, children and other humans as an appreciable act. Islam strictly forbids causing harm to innocent women, children and other people. Such a practice is forbidden even in the course of a battle. It is the United States which is perpetrating every maltreatment on women, children and common people of other faiths, particularly the followers of Islam... Terror is the most dreaded weapon in the modern age and the Western media is mercilessly using it against its own people. - Shaykh Usama Bin Ladin, Director of Al Qaeda, in an interview published in newspaper Ummat Karachi, 28-Sep-2001

Bin Laden was created by the C.I.A.

The 'caving to terror" is intentional and a necessary step in setting up the Globalist control grid.

Bin Laden, Obama, Bush....all actors in the ever-evolving plans orchestrated by technocrats and global bankers in the shadows.

Nicaragua fast-tracks Chinese plan to build canal to rival Panama(The Guardian)

The Chinese company, HK Nicaragua Canal Development Investment, is working with the Nicaraguan government on the canal project, which was announced last week. Experts say it may take 11 years to finish, cost $40bn and require the digging of about 130 miles (200km) of waterway.

Canal proponents say the waterway could create 40,000 construction jobs and double the per-capita gross domestic product of Nicaragua, one of the poorest countries in Latin America. The government plans to grant the Chinese company a concession for an initial 50 years, with the possibility of doubling it.

You heard it right, but France, Spain and Portugal have denied any wrongdoing.  So someone is probably lying but it's a he-said, she-said.  So put that aside and focus on what happened next, which was the violation of sovereign immunity in Austria, which is a supposedly law-abiding sovereign.  Austria is the real bad actor here.

I can understand that Mr. Morales agreed to divert to Vienna because of an understandable fear that his plane might be shot down if they continued on course with their flight plan to the Canary Islands.  Even though continuing on course might have been the "right thing to do," doing so could have resulted in his own death and unimaginable damage to Bolivia, which he has sworn to protect.

The thing I don't understand is: Why did Evo Morales allow his plane to be searched by Austrian customs officers?  After Spain's ambasador to Austria came to the airport tarmac and asked Mr. Morales if he could have a coffee with him inside the plane, and the ambassador was invited aboard and looked around and saw no sign of Snowden and furthermore received assurances that no Snowden was aboard, that should have been the end of it!

Why did Mr. Morales allow the Austrian customs officers to search his plane?  He could have refused.  The plane undoubtedly carried well-armed military guards who would lay down their lives defending their president if ordered to do so.  Now that would have been an international incident that would be carried by all the propaganda outlets instead of burying the story as they did.  Would Austria launch a special forces assault on the president of Bolivia?  Now that would be a very clear act of war ... and for what reason?  A rumor of a stowaway?  Did they really search the suitcases of Evo Morales?  We don't have all the details because the story, like all embarrassments, was given very little coverage.

This story made me sick and totally ashamed of being American.  The U.S. is nothing but the biggest criminal enterprise that ever existed.  We should all be ashamed of what was done to Bolivia that night.

But the zombie proles here know nothing about it and couldn't care less, apart from laughing at jokes about Bolivia being a third-world country that we can play with like a toy.

I hope and pray that the criminal sociopaths who run this world end up being hunted down and slowly tortured to death, but it's not gonna happen.

I see three choices: 1) ignore the fact that we're the most evil country on the planet, 2) do what you can to educate and find others of like mind by exercising the 1st Amendment while it still exists, or 3) engage in armed struggle and be willing to die for what's right.

Those who follow 1) are despicable zombies.  But, because I don't have the training and materials needed for 3), all I can do is 2).  And I'm so very grateful to be able to post here.

If I had the fitness, military training, and access to weaponry and explosives, I would surely choose 3).  But I don't.  So make my day and waste your time trying to hurt me.  I don't care.

And did you know that it takes only ONE year in the Mil, to get your USC (US Citizenship)?  Whereas it takes 3 yrs if you're married to a USC, and 5 yrs if you're not.

That also tells you plenty:  The "lookback window" of potential misdeeds or crimes is limited to 1 yr for guys who sign up for the Mil.  / Gee, I wonder why that is?  Could it be because they're all top-of-the-foodchain guys, eager to give up their Yale programs? /s
