US To Send Four F-16s To Egypt

Tyler Durden's picture

We have only one question regarding this just released news...

... And that would be: WHO gets the jets? The overthrown president, formerly fully endorsed and supported by the US, or the non-MB forces that last week staged a coup in the US-supported country?

Section 508 of the Foreign Assistance Act stipulates that “none of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available pursuant to this Act shall be obligated or expended to finance directly any assistance to any country whose duly elected head of government is deposed by a military coup or decree.” A clause in the 2011 omnibus bill strengthens the provision, excluding from American aid any nation experiencing a “coup d’etat or decree in which the military plays a decisive role.”

The Egyptian military has been aligned with the people who run the US the whole time.  The Egyptian Military was never aligned with the Morsi Administration.  The Morsi administration was allowed at Obama's request, and the Military was told to stand down for awhile and behave and that later we would send them some F-16's for their trouble.  Since the Egyptian military honored their commitments to the people who run the US and have since overthrown Mursi, they are getting their F-16's as promised.  The one unsolved item that remains is that it is looking more and more likely that the ones who run the US & the US military are not aligned with the Obama regime, but we are just gonna have to wait and see how that one shakes out.

What a quaint history lesson, "Section 508" sounds like one of those things they used to have, I believe they were called "laws". These were rules that everyone had to follow, decided by a body of men chosen by the people to represent them. If anyone in the country didn't obey these so-called "laws" then they suffered the consequences. There was something called The Department of Justice that was in charge of making sure everyone followed these "laws" or else they went to prison.

But we have a much better system today: a few of the country's richest men decide what they want to do and they tell the King. They keep a few of the old so-called "laws" around to make sure no one can challenge them.

Saw this story today about an Egyptian Soldier who allegedly is sniping people off and kills the guy filming the incident. It's all BS watch the video. This soldier never fires one round. No smoke, flash or heat distortion can be seen from the barrel let alone any recoil. Looks to me like this soldier is trying to figure out where what sounds like gunshots are coming from and I believe the soldier finally finds the source which happens to be in the same direction as the camera itself.

Not to mention snipers don't use an AK-47 they use the AK-74.

Government is the attempt to organize society through institutionalized violence. So it's logical for politicians to see arms sales as a humanitarian mission. When they're feeling especially charitable they bomb people for their freedom.

Actually, nearly all military fighter jets, armored vehicles, hellfire missiles, and other military vehicles and ordinance that we "sell" to other nations are paid for by U.S. taxpayers, since nearly all of those same countries receiving these MIC wares receive many billions in U.S. foreign direct aid which are used to "pay" for these same "goods."

This is most definitely true of Egypt, as well as it's neighbor, Israel, which each receive billions in U.S. taxpayer dollars annually, and receive regular amazon.com delivery of military hardware.

Japan, Kuwait, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE are about the only nations I can think of at the moment that actually buy these items directly.

Another nice, backdoor (right up the ass), stealth subsidization of the MIC, compliments of the U.S. taxpayers under seige.

Excellent summary, Truth. Historically, as you know, the U.S. aid to Egypt was meant to provide political cover for the massive aid America provides to Israel. Under the Mubarak regime, Egypt's government earned the U.S. aid by keeping other Arab countries from exercising aggressiveness against Israel. Mubarak was the U.S. puppet who "got along with" Israel.

This counterbalance, generously supplied by the U.S. taxpayer, placates the Muslim world and provides a story line to cover why an independent, wealthy, armed-to-the-teeth Israeli economy needs constant U.S. taxpayer support.

Of course, the published foreign aid to Israel does not include massive under cover assistance of all kinds.

From wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egyptian_Armed_Forces):

The Egyptian Air Force or EAF is the aviation branch of the Egyptian Armed Forces. Currently, the backbone of the EAF is the F-16. The EAF (planes and pilot training) is considered to be the strongest in Africa and one of the strongest in the Middle East. The Mirage 2000 is the other modern interceptor used by the EAF. The Egyptian Air Force has 216 F-16s (plus 20 on order) making it the 4th largest operator of the F-16 in the World. It has about 579 combat aircraft and 149 armed helicopters having 35 Apache's AH-64D as it also continues to fly extensively upgraded MiG-21s, F-7 Skybolts, F-4 Phantoms, Dassault Mirage Vs, and the C-130 Hercules among other planes. The Air Force is undergoing massive modernization. Mikoyan confirmed that talks with Egypt are underway[when?] for the sale of 40 Mig-29SMT jet-fighters with a possible additional batch of 60-80 planes.

So, 4 f-16s...  amongst 216 + 20 on order...  definitely helping.

I'd be very surprised if the missiles we send our 'allies' fighting Assad don't have some GPS-enforced range limit in them.

Try to fire one outside Syria? e.g., in Israel? It blows up in your face.

What the fuck for? They are probably going to be museum pieces without any upgrades, so unless they are expecting an imminent invasion from Napoleon through a timewarp, four f-16s are as useful as an umbrella during an artillery strike.

What kind of morons are running the Pentagon? "Give the Indians some beads and blankets. That will win them over". Yeah, this will go down reeeaaly well with the Egyptians. Expect a return package of f16 parts with a dollop of turd on top.

Perhaps Morsi got a bit too excited and his Syria rhetoric became a bit too hardline islamist. The west seems to like this image of ordinary, secular citizens overthrowing Assad and when Morsi started spewing out Jihad talk someone thought it would reflect poorly on the USA who happens to fund a large part of the Egyptian military. So they get a bit more secular people to take the reins and the guns keep on flowing. In the end it doesn't matter who the puppet is as long as he/she doesn't overstep boundaries.
