The DeKalb County schoolboard chairman says a there is an active shooter at McNair Elementary School. Chairman Melvin Johnson said there have been reports of shots fired. There are no reports of injuries.


The gunman has not been located.


News Chopper 2 footage showed children running from the school building.


Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy, a charter school, is located on 2nd Avenue in Decatur.

A shooting was reported on Tuesday afternoon at an elementary school in Decatur, Ga., according to school officials.


A suspect was in custody, Dekalb School spokesperson Quinn Hudson told NBC News affiliate WXIA.


Police responded to a call reporting that shots had been fired at the Ronald McNair Discovery Learning Academy not far from Atlanta, WXIA reported.


It was not clear if there were any people shot in the incident.


DeKalb County Schools told NBC News that there is an ongoing situation and that the police chief is on scene. They did not confirm that there is an active gunman.


Students were being evacuated, NBC News has learned.
