It appears investors (CDS markets, VIX, T-Bills anxiety) were on to something as each side in the  looming government shutdown debate seems mired in their own belief that the other has more to lose. House Republicans are aiming to hold a vote today on a bill to extend government funding through December 15th and ensuring the military gets paid on any shutdown, but...

And as the WSJ reports, Harry Reid has already stated that "we are going to accept nothing as it related to Obamacare," before adjourning the Senate until Monday afternoon (narrowing the gap for a shutdown-avoidance vote). The shutdown-blame-game has begun as it seems the ball is back in the Senate's court...

Via WSJ,

The strategy keeps House Republicans on a collision course with Senate Democrats. "We are going to accept nothing as it relates to Obamacare,'' Mr. Reid said after the Senate approved its spending plan.

Senate Majority Leader Mr. Reid on Friday added to the pressure on the House by adjourning the Senate until Monday afternoon, narrowing the window of time for any last-minute legislative volleys between the chambers.

"The president is now demanding that we increase the debt limit without engaging in any kind of bipartisan discussions about addressing our spending problem,'' said Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R., Wash.), who gave the address on behalf of Republicans. "He wants to take the easy way out - exactly the kind of foolishness that got us here in the first place."

If the House acts today and sends the measure to the Senate, fresh pressure will fall on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) to call the Senate back in session quickly. Mr. Reid said Friday that the Senate would accept no changes or amendments to the funding bill it approved on Friday. He scheduled the Senate to return Monday afternoon, hard upon the Monday midnight deadline for Congress to come to agreement on a funding plan.

The standoff brings the federal government to the brink of a shutdown with little obvious room for resolution. Unlike in previous showdowns, there have been no major negotiations among congressional leaders or with the White House.

Mr. Boehner, said: "The House will take action that reflects the fundamental fact that Americans don't want a government shutdown, and they don't want the train wreck that is Obamacare.''

If no agreement is reached by midnight Monday, federal agencies will have to stop providing many services and furlough many employees. Services and agency functions deemed essential would continue.

If House lawmakers alter the Senate's spending bill, the measure will return to the Senate, where legislation can take days to navigate over procedural hurdles.

Balls don't solve this kind if problem. Brains do. Sadly lacking in the US, and on ZH too, because...

If you can't fix it, you need to get rid of it, a la "Tear Down This Wall!" In the case of our unpayable Debt, we need to do the next best tactical move: Blow it UP. Blow it way up, way fast.

/ Good luck in having the average 'brainiac' figure this out. /s

We have a country, it is the current and recent admins and congress that have fucked things up...why not advocate for a return to the constitution.  remove the chains that binds us, illegal laws = patriot act, ndaa, obamacare, dodd-frank, and the like?

pauhana...I am on the side of liberty and freedom, and hope that you can see that much.  Just because I say support our troops, does not mean I support the MIC and our current convicts in DC?

Far from it, I do support sutting the govt down and forcing a reset, because this fucker is out of control...the inmates are running the asylum!

good doctor, Russia you say?  LOL, nice try tho, why do you perps hate what I write so much...we are on the same freaking side...heh!

Do I come across as govt lover? If I do then that is my bad...

Sorry about the misspelling, Jim.  Apparently, neither of us got it right the first time!  I have enjoyed reading your many comments the past few weeks.

Did you hear about the guy with five dicks?  His pants fit like a glove!

No, my real brass balls hang from my scrotum, thank you very much!

You should be happy I am on your side, I can be quite devastating to my enemies!

I'd much rather we all settle our differences peacfully though, the pen is mightier than the sword.

If the Red Team truly cared about the people, the government non-shutdown would be contingent upon the complete repeal of Obamacare.  The one-year delay makes it obvious that they're just trying to get to the 2014 mid-terms and want to use the impending law as a campaign platform.

Why do you assume I think that, where have I given you that idea?  You pull ad hominem attacks on me? why?

I am for growing the economy, shrinking the bloated govt.  If you grow more tax payers, it would be less coming from everyone's pocket.  With a smaller govt, there would be need for less taxes too.

If you get rid of ALL govt, then you have anarchy.  The jungle, survival of the fittest.  Believe me, you would not like that very much, especially if you ran across me.  Not threat here to ya, just reality, cause if it came down to the jungle mentality, it would be every man for himself...

I advocate the same things as many people here do, but just because I support the troops (not the mic), I am decried?  Just because I support the the people of Israel to have a home, does not make me a zionist either.

Let's get back to sanity here, I am on your side!

Thanks for recognizing the fact that I have a point.  This board is being populated by folks with either poor reading skills, people who are very uninformed about the realities of politics, or who are totally blinded by a red/blue POV and about as hysterical a a bunch of 5th grade girls.  15 down arrows for offering up unpleasant (to some) facts.

It is a FACT that Obummer does not have to negotiate.  Negotiate what?  The ACA has been passed, it has been adjudicated by the Supreme Court, and there has been an election where the loser ran on repealing it.  On top of that, the good folks over at the House of Representatives insane asylum have voted about 40 times to repeal, defund, or whatever......all to no avail.

All you emotional retards can jump up & down and scream all you want, but at the end of this clown show, nothing will change, except the Republicans will have shot off another toe or 2.

I personally think Obamacare will need a lot "adjustment", and may well be traded in on a single-payer system.  There are going to be winners & losers, and we will all have to wait and see how this plays out....but play out it will.  Jump in front of a moving train if you like, but make sure you have enrolled in a good health plan, 'cause you are about to get run over.

First, widely written about is one thing - factually presented in any detail and widely READ are completely different things.

Second, forcing everyone to buy a catastrophic health plan sounds like forcing people to buy into Obummer Care.

Third, your solution does nothing to address the situation where huge numbers of Americans have no health care - some because of affordability, some due to pre-existing conditions, and some are just pikers who chose to gamble with their health while young, or if older, because they are dumb. (you have a right to be dumb, by the way)

Fourth, the plans that have been discontinued are largely crappy plans that do not measure up to the ACA requirements.  Why would I mind having a better plan available that might actually cover my illnes over one a company sponsored that was stripped down to the point of being worthless?
