House Votes To Delay Obamacare By One Year; Checks To Senate Democrats - Shutdown 'Inevitable'?

Tyler Durden's picture

On a rare Saturday session (now Sunday); in a not-too-surprising vote down party lines, the House has voted in favor of the continued-military-funding, medical-device-tax-repealing, Obamacare-delaying continuing resolution that keeps the government paid until December 15th...

  • *HOUSE PASSES 231-192 OBAMACARE DELAY IN U.S. SPENDING BILL
  • *HOUSE VOTES 423-0 TO FUND TROOPS IF GOVERNMENT SHUTS DOWN

Now it's off to the Senate and Harry Reid's 'over-my-dead-body' as the White House prepares for Government Shutdown.. (and/or veto) with little (or no) time to cobble together a last-minute deal.

Of course this will be the meme for tomorrow...

It's crazy pills time...

Speaking of military funding...

Israel starts campaign to boost U.S. military aid

TEL AVIV, Israel, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Israel's military chiefs are pushing for a bump in the $3.1 billion a year the Jewish state receives in U.S. military aid even though the 10-year agreement doesn't expire until 2017 and America is struggling with domestic economic issues.

Among other things, the Israelis are citing a 2008 U.S. law that for the first time legally committed Washington to maintain the Jewish state's technological superiority -- its Qualitative Military Edge, or QME, in military terminology -- over its regional adversaries, particularly Iran, which has been pursuing nuclear technology.

The QME, the cornerstone of the strategic alliance between the United States and Israel for the past few decades, was long viewed as a negotiating principle between the two allies, but was made law under the Naval Vessel Transfer Act of 2008. The act requires U.S. military aid at all times ensures Israel is technologically capable of countering any array of hostile states and non-state combatants such as Lebanon's Hezbollah.

Are we gonna call this an 'entitlement' too?

What does this all important military funding buy us? Anyone remember Iraq?

The Surge Didn’t Work, Or How Can We Continue to Ignore Iraq?

So, the U.S. waged war against Iraq in 1991 and followed up with more than a decade of sanctions that decimated the country and was described by one UN official as genocidal. Then the U.S. invaded and occupied the country in a war of choice based on lies, ripping what was left of the country to shreds in the process. And now U.S. troops have left and Washington continues to send  about $2 billion, not including the additional billions of dollars worth of military training and equipment, to the corrupt and authoritarian regime in Baghdad that is driving the country into civil war.

How can decent Americans ignore this?

OH MY GOD! I just thought of something. The government shut down would stop the billions of dollars in hand outs to Israel. Have they considered this? Cutting off funding to Israel would be ... well, just unacceptable. My god we can't shut down the government now that we know this.

If we stopped funding the terrorists....we could probably stop funding Israel.

Yeah I know.....NOT going to happen.

The Congressional vote exempting Israel would make the 423-0 vote seem like a close call.

@ Disenchanted,

Good point on Israel's military entitlements. Congress and the Pres. have made it clear that this gov't "shutdown" will not in the least affect its spying, threats, and provocations of force against Americans, the Constitution, and the people of the world.

We don't yet see any leadership capable of moving us off this disastrous path. We have *no* friends in government.

Yes, one does wonder.

"However, as Kevin Bankston notes, during Thursday's Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, Dianne Feinstein more or less admitted that they get emails via "upstream" collection methods. As you can see in the following clip, Feinstein interrupts a discussion to read a prepared "rebuttal" to a point being made, and in doing so clearly says that the NSA can get emails via upstream collections:

Upstream collection... occurs when NSA obtains internet communications, such as e-mails, from certain US companies that operate the Internet background, i.e., the companies that own and operate the domestic telecommunications lines over which internet traffic flows.

She clearly means "backbone" rather than "background." She's discussing this in an attempt to defend the NSA's "accidental" collection of information it shouldn't have had. But that point is not that important. Instead, the important point is that she's now admitted what most people suspected, but which the administration has totally avoided admitting for many, many years since the revelations made by Mark Klein.

So, despite years of trying to deny that the NSA can collect email and other communications directly from the backbone (rather than from the internet companies themselves), Feinstein appears to have finally let the cat out of the bag, perhaps without realizing it."

Thanks for the update Di-Fi...I knew we could count on your "massive intelligence" to keep a secret ;-)

Don't blame me, I voted for Jello.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJy_pT78fTU

"As he campaigned, Biafra wore campaign T-shirts from his opponent Quentin Kopp's previous campaign and at one point vacuumed leaves off the front lawn of another opponent, current U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, to mock her publicity stunt of sweeping streets in downtown San Francisco for a few hours. He also made a whistlestop campaign tour along the BART line. Supporters committed equally odd actions; two well known signs held by supporters said "If he doesn't win I'll kill myself" and "What if he does win?"
He finished fourth out of a field of ten."

Regular correspondent Russ sent the following about the Data Retention Directive of 2006 that has been adopted by the European Commission.

Article 5, under "Categories of data to be retained," lists the gory details of what is tracked. This is required for home phones, mobile phones, Internet telephony and email. Depending on the country, this information will be kept for six months to two years.

Under the Data Retention Directive, here is what is being tracked in every email sent:

  • Your name and address
  • The name and address of everyone you send email to
  • The time and date you logged on and off your Internet service, along with your IP address and username
  • The time and date you sent your email
  • Your computer's operating system, hardware, and other identifying information

Other EU countries are taking electronic surveillance even further. Denmark, for instance, passed a law in 2007 tracking all Internet access, not just email and VoIP calls. And Sweden, while delaying implementation of the Data Retention Directive, passed a law in 2008 to record all Internet and phone communications that cross their borders.

I forwarded the email to resident Casey tech guru Alex Daley who dashed off the following in response:

Ironically, the only three states to reject the directive as unconstitutional are Romania, Germany and the Czech Republic. Seems East and West have flipped. Also, Sweden refuses to even try to pass it thus far.

The fact of the matter is that at this point in human history, you have to assume that other than talking one on one in person and maybe posting a letter through the regular mail, pretty much all of your communications are now being tracked by some state apparatus.

Orwell was prescient.

Idiots they should fund the damn thing but put in a provision forcing Congress, Federal employees and the Supreme court into Obamacare exchanges for health insurance then force the Senate to reject it. But that would only happen if there was real 2 team system here. Like the analogy goes if the chef won't eat at the restaurant he cooks at while telling you how fucking great the food is why would you want to?

Shut it down and

Send the Globalist traitors (Hillary, Kerry, Obama, Reid, McCain, Graham, Shumer, Feinstein) to China. Don't let them back into the United States of America.

While it is down replace it with open source software run by projects within the 50 states.

Replace the banking system with a publicly owned and operated open source cryptocurrency monetary system that is run by the 50 states.

Don't ever start Washington D.C. back up again.

Prosecute them for treason.

Arrest Ben Bernanke and the FED. Somebody do something.

By shutdown they mean people who already do close to no work anyway will being given time off to which the government will back pay anyway when they've decided that it's too dangerous that no one noticed an impact to their lives?

And by "delay Obamacare", I suppose that means the subsidy won't be there, but the requirement to get it will. It's not like the IRS needs any more money to fund the form you fill out identifying your coverage.

Just fine JPM a few more times for normal business pactices, I'm sure that'll buy a couple of more weeks.

No matter what happens, or how the MSM tries to spin this in the favor of the Affordable Care Act(Oh, the irony of that name). The rotation of the Sun around the center of the galaxy will continue totally unperturbed.

I will say that Boner has slightly exceeded my expectations in the spine department though. The Dems and the MSM are going to have to work double overtime to keep the spin in their favor.

I just wish they'd pass a law forcing people to buy my services at the point of a government issued gun though as it really would help me pay for first class air travel for overseas medical treatment at Bankster class health care facilities.

Hell, why don't they just pass a law forcing us to all buy each others' goods and services as it would totally cure all that ails us.

Harry did this on purpose;

The last-minute cliff hanger was done on purpose by Harry Reid who, knowing that the House would send another measure, postponed bringing the Senate to order until Monday.

423-0 vote to pay the government's own armed retainers? Shame.

It's an overt bankruptcy.  What they're doing is establishing a hierarchy of creditors.  They pay the most politically-connected first.
