Who's To Blame?

Tyler Durden's picture

Before the Senate begins its "debate", we thought it worth a glance at who the average US citizen believes wil be to blame if the government does shutdown...

Love the idea but the reasons behind Germany's move towards hyperinflation were because of what the "League of Nations"/sarc did to them as punishment for the First World War.

The epic footnote for the U.S. will be that we did the same because we turned out to be the control freak wannabe of Rome that we never have or will come close to being.

One of the major problems during Wiemar was that Germany required imports to rebuild.  Part of this, was of course, due to the terrific reparations forced upon them and the loss of Alsace-Lorraine coal and iron production claimed by France.  Forced to import raw materials (especially during the industrial revolution) with a rapidly devaluing currency sounds the death knell for any nation.  It is unlikely we will experience the same in spite of the Bernank's shenanigans simply because if push comes to shove, we can live almost entirely without imports. We are simply too rich in natural resources.  Much more likely to experience a deep deflationary depression than hyperinflation.

Yes but who owns most all of those natural resource that you speak of?  Certainly not the U.S. Government and UNESCO...

Who in our Government will be brave enough not to follow through with those land deals taking place in the midwest to China so that we can get our out-of-work and idle labor back to work?

Funny, I don't recall the 'rebuilding' of 1970s Brazil and Israel, or 1980s Mexico and Argentina, or 1990s Russia and Peru, or 2000s Zimbabwe, as responsible for their corresponding hyperinflations and/or currency crashes.

If the US dollar eventually depreciates 'only' 50 or 60% in the space of one year, or even 'just' say 70 or 80% in the span of one decade, will you continue to parrot the line that the USA managed to avoid hyperinflation?  Will losing 'only' 70 or 80% of your savings to currency depreciation make you feel so much better than losing 99.999% of it to the same cause?

No matter how much growth we push?  Consumption rates don't matter?

It's like saying that we have enough food for company, without anyone specifying how much company is going to come!

Why the fuck do people, people who think they otherwise understand the concept of compounding interest, FAIL to understand what "growth" really means?

You can argue the upcoming "hyperinflation" vs "deflation" battle till the cows come home.  The post above was a comment specifically on Wiemar and what caused the collapse.  A major historic cause of hyperinflation is the need to import and pay for imports with a rapidly declining currency.  After the war, Wiemar had "zero" exports.  The costs of imports continue to skyrocket, as was the case in Wiemar which had to import food.  Exporters demand more and more of a declining currency.   If you are the United States, you can simply say "fuck you".  We are energy rich.  We'll build it, sew it, grow it ourselves to fill decreasing demand.  Not a pretty picture, but some reality.

As for the hyperinflation vs deflation battle, my guess is you will see a deflationary spiral, massive loss of value in housing and real estate, continued loss in productivity and jobs and an ultimate nasty depression and much worse that the 30s.  The Fed wants to inflate everything.  Blow some "Bubs".  It's simply not working or a short fix at best.  You are knee deep in the Fourth Turning and the results are predictable.

Which Germany are we talking about post-Wiemar 1935, or post-Reich Germany WWII?...

Both were enorormously controlled through sanctions by the Anglo-American and French alliance after both wars which were responsible for taking Germany' to "zero" exports that you speak of.

You didn't address the question(s) raised regarding what foreign interests have a stake in that energy rich bread basket that use to be the U.S. of 50 years ago either, and the fact that energy and mineral resouces are finite over time whether we like that fact or not.

LMAO.

Really? You have to be joking.

We do not have the Shale Oil Fields anywhere up to taking care of our Oil Consumption. It will take YEARS to develop those. (WE DO NOT HAVE YEARS.) There is NO INFRASTRUCTURE. The Fields currently produce 1 Million Bbls per day whereas the USA burns 19 Million bbls per day.

There are reasons for this. It is more profitable to send pumps and the other supporting infrastructure to Oil Fields where the EROEI produces higher VOLUMES, MORE REVENUES and MORE PROFIT. That is the reason WHY the supporting Pipelines and infrastructure for Shale Oil does not exist.

Our Factories are MOTHBALLED, empty hollow shells. We have very little manufacturing capacity in the USA as it all has been OFFSHORED.

We may be able to SURVIVE without imports. But the Standard of Living will RAPIDLY DECLINE to that of a Third World Nation...in MONTHS...maybe weeks...without imports.

If we have not completely run out of time already, we are rapidly approaching that condition.

We ARE LIKE Weimar Germany because we may have the resources in the ground...But with no way to extract them and start up immediate production we will be resource starved.

HYPERINFLATION CAN HAPPEN HERE. Famine CAN HAPPEN HERE. We are NOT IMMUNE from the Natural Laws. No we are not EXCEPTIONAL except when it comes down to BLINDNESS. We are amongst the World's most MYOPIC and BITEMPORALLY HEMIANOPIC people who ever attempted to muddle their way around...without sight, as blind as Mr. Magoo.

In the End Game the Short Term Profits to be realized are much more important than Long Term Investments. I realize that it is demanding some VISION for anyone in America to SEE THAT. IT TAKES FORESIGHT.

But the Bankers and Wall Street are INTENT on playing out the End Game.

THAT...IS THE REALITY. I cannot care less about what "should be", "would be" and what "could be" Those phrases are expressions of Fantasy, one has to be in Fantasyland to believe them, and Fantasyland is just a Suburb of Disneyland, a synonym for JAIL. If you are living in Fantasyland you are living in the prison of your own mind.

"Same reason the League of Women Voters refuses to host the Presidential debates."

For some background (fromhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._presidential_debate):

Control of the presidential debates has been a ground of struggle for more than two decades. The role was filled by the nonpartisan League of Women Voters (LWV) civic organization in 1976, 1980 and 1984.[5] In 1987, the LWV withdrew from debate sponsorship, in protest of the major party candidates attempting to dictate nearly every aspect of how the debates were conducted. On October 2, 1988, the LWV's 14 trustees voted unanimously to pull out of the debates, and on October 3 they issued a press release:[9]

The League of Women Voters is withdrawing sponsorship of the presidential debates...because the demands of the two campaign organizations would perpetrate a fraud on the American voter. It has become clear to us that the candidates' organizations aim to add debates to their list of campaign-trail charades devoid of substance, spontaneity and answers to tough questions. The League has no intention of becoming an accessory to the hoodwinking of the American public.

Seems like the LWV called it correctly...

You are usually correct. But I must respectfully disagree. The Income Tax is VOLUNTARY. Everyone VOLUNTARILY PAYS TAXES.

Of course there are penalties if you do not. The US Government will ostracize you and forcibly take all of your assets if you do not volunteer.

It is against the law not to file if you have earned an income that is substantial (in their eyes...not yours.) It is against the law if you file a FALSE RETURN. Those offenses are JAILABLE.

But if you do not pay Taxes then you are not subject to being caged. They just refuse to allow your participation in the US Economy, whatsoever, by taking everything that you have or ever will have.

You do have a choice. I am not writing that it is a VIABLE CHOICE. But you still have a choice. I mean...it is voluntary after all. /sarc

If the object is a singular person then it is proper to use the word, "who".

The point is that is one person, in this case the Sodomite in Chief, responsible for this fiasco? Or is it the collective group of CONgress? Or is it a combination thereof?

But it really does not matter as whoever, or, whomever, is responsible is actually doing us a favor. I hope that the Government is shutdown forever.

The very best action that the President and the members of CONgress can take is to submit thier Letters of Resignation. This also applies to the Board of Governors as well as the Chairman of the Federal Reserve. And it applies to the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon.

Shut it down and clean house. But that is just a fantasy. We need a VACATION from them. I mean that in the intentional duality in which it was presented. (VACANCY...TO VACATE...etc.)

"You want change, vote 3rd party!"  The token third parties just further legitimize the "two party" dominance.  And of course, we all (should) know it's really one party.

If you really want to affect things as an individual within this country:

1.  Get completely out of debt (including your house).  Debt is slavery.

2.  In instances where banking is necessary, utilize a local credit union or locally owned bank.

3.  Buy as much as you can from local sources, both in services and materials.  Buy locally produced food, furniture, clothing, etc., you don't have to be perfect, but do what you can.

All of these things are a vote against the current system, and talk in a way that's much, much more effective than the ballot box.  We are being ruled by a beast, and the only way to kill it is to starve it.  It's food is debt, multinational corporations, and the military/police.  You can't (and shouldn't) do anything against the military/police.  You can do a heck of a lot against debt and multinational corps (think BP, Monstanto, etc.).

Mon, 09/30/2013 - 16:28 | 4006911 Seer
Seer's picture

Yes, and I'd further add that these things not be done with the sole intent of punishing others/the system, but rather, done because this is what a person wants and believes in.

No matter how we approach things, know that: that which is not sustainable will NOT persist.  Figure out how to be more sustainable: note: "altering" the existing grow-or-die system without addressing growth is NOT a solution along this line.

DIVEST OUT OF THE US DOLLAR and US DOLLAR BASED ASSETS.

BUY GOLD AND SILVER.

Warren Buffoon is right. Gold does not produce an income stream. What he failed to mention is that it does not produce an income stream...FOR THE GOVERNMENT. (That is the REASON that they do not like it.)

Besides they only TAX Capital GAINS after the SALE of the Asset. That Tax only applies to the GAIN and not the ENTIRE PRICE that the asset commanded in Dollars.

Nobody knows what you paid for the Gold or WHEN you purchased it. Right now if you had bought in September, 2011, you would have a NON TAXABLE Capital Loss. But they really have no clue if you bought in Setember, 1999, or, September, 2011.

There is no requirement that anyone send in to the Government a report of any kind telling them that you bought Gold and what price you paid for it. The Government only knows what you tell them.

I am not writing that you cheat the Government. I am writing that you DO NOT SELL IT. That will insure that there is NO TAXES DUE and cause them a loss of Revenue.

There is nothing like restricting the REVENUES from a Spendthrift to affect changes in the Spendthrift's behavior. (Just what do you think that refusing to raise the Debt Limit "crisis" is about?)

BUY GOLD AND SILVER. OPT OUT.

The only poll that will ever matter in this Nation of "eyes wide shut" is when the U.S. government officially defaults on it's debt because it's business partners refuse to play in their sandbox and the threats we've used in this monopoly no longer work.

Until that time IPSOS and Reuters can go fuck themselves for the bag men they are.

If you were in a group of people that were being robbed by a man with a gun, they would be begging you to not confront him for fear of being shot. Most people in the world know our system is hopelessly corrupt but they resist doing anything about it for fear of losing what they still have. Its understandable but sad and dissappointing as it plots the path of our demise.

They're all to blame and so are the American people for allowing a so-called elitist group of criminals year after year to con their way into the highest levels of power from the local city, state and the national offices.

Birds of a feather flock together...and every scumbag in D.C. is the same as the next.  They are all on the same side...theirs!  They aren't there fighting each other...that's nothing but a bad show for the sheeple who are still stuck deep in the thick fog of the false right/left paradigm.  They're there to fight against us!

The scum in D.C. are a den of vipers and theives and must be routed out.  (hat tip: Andrew Jackson).

The definition of insanity, per Albert Einstein is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.  Well the general American public who votes for any of these losers and expects any of them to ever do something good or serve any purpose other than their own must be insane at some level.

And the Definition of a Sociopath (as I've posted on ZH many times before) is below.  Fits every single scumbag in the District of Criminals and all around this world to a tee!!!

Profile of the Sociopath

This website summarizes some of the common features of descriptions of the behavior of sociopaths.

  • Glibness and Superficial Charm
  • Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.
  • Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as "their right."
  • Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.
  • Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.
  • Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.
  • Incapacity for Love
  • Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.
  • Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.
  • Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.
  • Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.
  • Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.
  • Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity
Promiscuity, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual acting out of all sorts.
  • Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.
  • Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
Changes their image as needed to avoid prosecution. Changes life story readily.

Other Related Qualities:

  1. Contemptuous of those who seek to understand them
  2. Does not perceive that anything is wrong with them
  3. Authoritarian
  4. Secretive
  5. Paranoid
  6. Only rarely in difficulty with the law, but seeks out situations where their tyrannical behavior will be tolerated, condoned, or admired
  7. Conventional appearance
  8. Goal of enslavement of their victim(s)
  9. Exercises despotic control over every aspect of the victim's life
  10. Has an emotional need to justify their crimes and therefore needs their victim's affirmation (respect, gratitude and love)
  11. Ultimate goal is the creation of a willing victim
  12. Incapable of real human attachment to another
  13. Unable to feel remorse or guilt
  14. Extreme narcissism and grandiose
  15. May state readily that their goal is to rule the world

(The above traits are based on the psychopathy checklists of H. Cleckley and R. Hare.)

Been to every antiwar demonstration since Iraq in the last 10 years +4 9/11 Anniversaries in D.C. and Manhattan...

So where's the anger?

The protests leading up to the Iraq war were the largest in number since Vietnam and it proceeded to decline ever since. With all the revelations and FOIA subpoenas for information since the 9/11 Commission Report in 2005, nowhere near the numbers that are needed in demanding another investigation of the facts with pressure on the politicians in Washington has taken place.

Like I've said on these previous threads on ZH before.  If you are not willing to take risks and show your resentment to the "City on the Hill" that sucks you dry anticipate more of the same.

It will take a second visit to D.C. on the scale of the "Bonus March", but no one will show for the reasons you've already mentioned that the politician and the vast majority of voters both suffer from.

since 1980 the american social movement has gone dead; In the country that led the world under Pax Americana world domination.

And RR's  and Maggie's election and the great libertarian society has only made social responsibility worse.

A democracy depends on citizens acting as citizens and NOT JUST AS MINDLESS GREED IS GOOD oriented CONSUMERS. That sows the fields for the Gordon Gekkos...witness where we are.

You reap as your sow and unfortunately we are in this mess 'cos on both sides of the pond in the great old first world we went brain dead as CITIZENS who knew how to COUNT and how to reason and how to be RESPONSIBLE. We never checked the fiat pump we thought the asymptote of Jack's Beanstalk was a fairy tale we thought debt was asset and we thought OIL was for ever.

Its wake up time with a vengeance.

And, as for TRUTH we still don't know who killed Kennedy and worse, we don't care, so it could repeat X times around the globe and we would still stare and wonder for whom the bell tolls out there...

Not surprising if the 1492 impetus now goes into reverse gear bigtime.

Obama just said ... "The Congress must act", and "if it is not what I want I will veto it".

Although this is pretty much theatrics, the end is to give cover to the Democrats and the FED ... the Dems and POTUS want a shutdown so they will conveniently be able to blame the crash on the Republicans. Of course the Republican leadership is too stupid to understand they are being led to the slaughter.

I listened to you (Senator Kaine) on Sunday. Congress can only make hard decisions (spend less) within a crisis. When bond market stops buying USA T-Bills & notes, holy you know what, so we MUST avoid this at all cost and a political government shut-down seems to be the best road. If you care about this country, make a responsible entitlement proposal to get our structural deficit under control, PLEASE. (Note: This is blog on stupid journalists that captures the current situation I hope......

There is a disagreement. For anyone who wants to think, the disagreement is over a $17 trillion debt supported by an entitlement driven deficit and a large entitlement is being added. The problem all Americans face is interest payments. At 5% normal interest rate, annual interest payment is $850 billion per year. (Note: We could have another discussion about the crimminal Fed policy...stealing from poor to pay the rich.)

Any practicing journalist, who blames one side over the other, does not care about the future of this country. Both parties broke us and both parties need to find a solution. People who minimize the level of difficulty associated with solving this problem are sleepwalking through life.

Do we 'blame' someone for not blowing it up fast enough, or for delaying the inevitable Reset and thus allowing the Plunder by the Top 1% to continue?

I vote for blaming the cocksucker who did/does not keep it from blowing up and reaching Reset.  "Raise the Roof!"  To $30T.  And watch the show.
