I thought Obamacare was modeled on previous Republican plans.
It was modeled after one plan written by a contributor to the Heritage Foundation in 1989. The foundation changed the proposal drastically four years later. A couple of rhino republicans embraced the idea, and suddenly it gets painted as a republican plan.

This is such nonsense. There basically is nothing to fund. The "Bill" was subsequently ruled a "tax bill" by the Supreme Court. A previous version of the O'Care bill was voted down by the House when it was written as a tax bill.
All taxes are to originate in the House. That is the basis of power in the House. The fact of the matter is that as a tax, the House already rejected O'Care when previously written as a tax bill.
Nothing to fund!! At least until the House passes O'care as a tax bill, or re-writes the bill and sends it back to the Senate to be ratified.
In the absence of that happening, the Supreme Curt rulings mean nothing and the House has no legislative powers, and anything Congress does is at its whim.

Pure speculation on your part. Fact is, I could not buy health insurance in August. BCBS flat turned me down because of a prior bout with cancer. Even if I could get it the premium would be over $1,000 a month. Now I can get coverage for about $126 a month.
Republican ideas:
1) Individual mandate (mandatory coverage for everyone)
2) Exchanges (to purchase insurance)
3) Medicare Part D (arguably the most expensive expansion of Medicare in history)
The idea that with more people covered the cost would go down (fewer unpaid and uncollectable claims) is a core Republican idea embraced by Insurance Companies.
Please tell the rest of us peons where you can get coverage for $126 a month. I haven't seen a number that small anywhere.

That $0. premium is for crappy coverage with high copays, deductables and out-of-pocket costs. It's free to have, expensive to use. Far more people will have insurance cards however, and when they go to the ER will actually get a bill attached to a real person and address. At some point they will figure out it's still cheaper to give a fake name and provide no ID.
Also, the program is only open to legal residents, so presumably illegal residents will still use the ER as a free clinic.

Not many people can afford a premium like that. But the way the law works now I can be treated at the local hospital as an uninsured person and the cost will be shifted to you. The system has worked like that for decades. I like this way better. I pay my copays and deductibles and insurance pays the rest. The costs will flatten out.

Their premiums are higher, to cover your costs; their paychecks are smaller, to pay their inflated premiums. We need to abolish the insurance system as it exists, so that more people like you can see what their true costs are.
THE COSTS WILL FLATTEN OUT. No they won't; the insurance companies, having obtained a LEGAL MOAT that FORCES people to use their products, will EXPLOIT IT TO THE MAX and raise premiums until they can't get any more. The people who pay them will be denied coverage, to increase margins and returns; those who cannot afford the higher premiums won't have it anyway, and the lowest-common-denominator will be reached in service, speed and efficiency.
The best of intentions have, AGAIN, led to the worst of results. Comes from believing in magic fairy pixie dust insurance, instead of mathematics, science and reason.

The concept here is that buy insuring more people there will be fewer uninsured claims that have to be written off and the overall cost of care and insurance will begin to come down or level out.
The premium I quoted is from a grid I obtained from a Newsweek or Times article. I have yet to get an actual quote because the exchange just went live today. It will be in that neighborhood.

You, PSquared, are full of shit. For $126 a month, I believe you get to blow the doctor, but there's a $1000 deductible you have to pay.
I am single and 59 with no previous conditions, and I smoke. I went on the NY exchange a few days ago (to avoid the obvious rush to "affordable care") and found that I have a choice of two plans: The first plan, called SUXMAX, was $1300 a month. The second, called SUXLESS, was $1150 a month with higher OOP and co-pays.
So, I figure I should either just stop working so I can get on Medicaid or give up cable TV, heat, gas for my car (and the car, which is paid for), telephone service, water, eating and my eight to ten annual nine-hole golf outings ($12 a shot), so I will be in compliance with the law.
I told this to friends the other day while golfing, then hit a massive three-iron. They fell over laughing that all I needed to lower my handicap was to talk about government while playing. It didn't help my putting, though I'm still working on it.

Republicans for putting through Medicare part D, but at least they had Dem and some citizen support (or at least lack of effective opposition) and it didn't upset EVERYBODY'S applecart. It's very clear who the results of this debacle should be pinned on.
Oh, and I'm fully willing to cede "credit" to those same people if, against all logic, this thing turns out to actually work, even partially. And maybe unicorns will crap skittles and bigfoot will come to dinner, too.
It's all been about 'free healthcare' until now....just wait to see the shitstorm when people see their free healthcare will actually cost them around $300/month! That's where the rubber meets the road here, and it's what's got them all scared shitless!
Of course, it's really just another way to get the poor people (who would otherwise have no reason) to file with the IRS, so they can get their "rebate."
That's what I thought too. But the rebates are instant and deducted from monthly premiums. Fed. gov. sends a check directly to the state exchange/plan. You don't have to file a tax return to get the money.
Now, the IRS could be used to clawback tax returns in some cases, I'm sure.
So, when you've lost your job & have no income & can't pay the tax or penalty, does the IRS seize your property?
Or is the Blackstone?
A tax lien seems likely enough. However, Obamacare premiums are near zero when you have no income. The actual costs of care (crappy bronze plan) are another story.
There was a post with comments about this on my fb wall. Their premiums, copays and deductibles were all increasing. One person's deductible went from $1500 to $10,000.
