OT....but, Has anyone heard anything about Panama banks that were supposed to reopen today?

What if?

Obamacare was voted on in response to the financial crisis, and the insurance companies all saw their investments fall below acceptable thresholds for payouts of their customers claims. .gov bailed out the banks, and some insurance companies (the ones that were allowed to become 'banks') but .gov couldn't risk bailing out all the insurance companies. On paper, they're all completely broke.

Now, it's possible the plan is to make Obamacare look as bad as possible, have as many companies as possible eliminate employee healthcare coverage and move everyone to (very) part-time, then pull Obamacare (delay it to infinity) and let the states pick up the tab for everyone's healthcare, now that all the unemployed and uncovered part-timers would have to go to the local ER for healthcare. It saves the corporations (campaign donors), it saves the Feds, and the states get stuck with the multi-billion dollar bill.

There is no question that .gov knows how Fukushima and the resultant multi-trillion+ medical costs are going to work out. The easist thing to do now is to screw the states.

Could this be whazzup?

Reminds me of what it feels like to deal with a developing country government, only worse.  At least in most developing countries today, you can walk in to a private clinic, talk to a doctor, have them run your tests, and get a prescription if needed, all for under $100 with NO insurance, and you'll be out in less time than it takes for an Obamacare agent just to answer the phone...

The whole contract was driven by corrupt government nepotism and connection instead of a proper bidding process.  Colour everyone unsurprised at what happens when people scale to run a MMORPG blog and instead launch a web application intended to service 340 million people.

It's okay though, if anyone is concerned.  CGI, Oracle, IBM and SAP Presidents will get their bonuses for their poor implimentation of a national application.  Fucking embarrasing.  The IT industry is built of smart people, but why is it so fucking dumb when putting a price on the table and explaining SCALE.

Oh well, 'Quality' is job number two and they got what they paid for.  Fuck'em.

Tue, 10/01/2013 - 12:15 | 4010171 malikai
malikai's picture

There's plenty of smart people who can build fast, scalable, secure applications.

The problem is, none of them work for .gov. And those who contract for .gov know entirely too well that you don't get paid in that business by getting the job done. You get paid by dragging out requirements and bloating development costs.

Above considered, it's been a stunningly successful project, ZeroCare, for those contractors on the job. And it will obviously continue to be a smashing hit in the years that follow.

Absolutely.

The CGI (cough...Anderson/Cooper) value add service of 'there's a hole in the process, get a guy'.  80% header costs in most of them is pure fluff.  Turned IT contracting into a complete joke.  Not consulting, contracting.  Difference is I would hire a contractor to build a deck, I would hire a consultant to talk about options on the deck.  And it's always best to have a contractor that is your consultant, rather than your consultant that becomes a contractor.  Just making that clear as mud for everyone.

15 years ago if any project took longer than a couple of smart boffins and two months with cross training you'd question the sanity of the person on the other side of the table.  It's the whole point of a contractor.  Build it and leave documentation.  Move to next gig.  Somewhere in there the demented idea of making employee's out of us was a good thing.  If someone is in contracting it's the flexibility of options to lend a hand and make some bank.  Of course half the time is hustling for a gig unpaid, but that's the cost of business and nothing to change there.  To get paid you have to get up and go bug people.

Re: I don't get the amount of government I pay for

That's the difference between the smart-n-savvy people and the dumbasses.

The smart-n-savvy people get ALLOT more from the government than they pay for.

The government hands out 2 trillion buck each year, and guess what:   some people actually GET this 2 trillion bucks.         Those of us getting loot from:  Big-Ag, Big-MIC, Big-Road, Big-Water, Big-Airport, Big-Energy, Big-Ed, Big-House, Big-Fin, Big-OldFart, Big-OldFartHealthcare, Big-AntiDrug, & Big-PoliceState are really really really happy with spending the loot the dumbasses give us.

The secret of life is running a scam or participating in one.

WA state exchange is down too...... they have "no idea" when it'll be back up.... I hope it stays down and they fire the IT team responsible.... two years and how many hundreds of thousands for a website that self destructs on its first day? Nice rollout, asshats.

Yes, it is going exactly as planned!

Three years to figure out how to roll this out in a way in which it Will Not Work!

The entire purpose is for this to crash and burn.

It is designed NOT to give you any health care.

The Sheik must thin the herd. Orders.

Government run healthcare - just line up and die waiting for it.

This is just the "trial run".  If you can line up and die to this, they you should be able to line up and die for the services, rationed or not.

Take care of your own health folks.  The government isn't going to.

9/30/2013 Borg blast

If the United States government shuts down tonight and our economy takes a hit, it will be because House Republicans let it happen.

Right now, there's a bill sitting in the House that funds the government for a few more weeks. It doesn't demand the repeal or delay of the health care law, or deny women access to birth control, or include any other failed, partisan proposals. It funds the government. That's it. And if Republican leadership allowed a simple yes or no vote on this bill -- like the Senate has -- it would get enough support from members of both parties to pass.

Instead, the government that these Republicans were elected to fund will close down and that will hurt our economy. Americans across the country won't be allowed to show up for work. Paychecks could be delayed, meaning some folks will have to cut back on groceries or maybe even not pay a few bills. Businesses will have fewer customers. Veterans won't get services they rely on -- and it will put benefits for seniors at risk.

Even though they've already voted over 40 times to defund or delay the health care law, this group of Republicans in Congress is so obsessed with the idea of sabotaging Obamacare that they're willing to take the economy hostage to do it.

Take a look at how this shutdown will affect millions of Americans -- and then make sure you share it so other folks know, too.

President Obama has said time and time again that he's willing to work with folks on both sides of the aisle to grow our economy and even improve the health care law. But using the threat of government shutdown or defaulting on the bills our country owes is reckless and irresponsible.

In fact, shutting down the government won't stop Obamacare. The Health Insurance Marketplace will still open for business starting tomorrow, without delay.

Washington needs to stop manufacturing crises and focus on the issues that matter: creating jobs and building a strong middle class. Taking our economy over the cliff just to score political points isn't fair to the millions of Americans who show up every day to work and do their jobs. It’s time for Congress to do its job.

Make sure you know exactly who this shutdown is directly affecting and then pass it on.

Thanks,

LACES OUT DAVID

Dear Mr. Simas,

Perhaps if the federal government wasn't borrowing 48 cents of every dollar it spent - up from 41 cents only two years ago when we witnessed the same budget shenanigans FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE AISLE as today - and then spending all of that borrowed money on various and sundry entitlements, we'd be more inclined to take your comments seriously. In the mean time, go read the FY2013 budget report and learn something from it.

Sincerely,

Your Employer

Healthcare (like commodities) will rapidly devolve into a cash market, as will healthcare exchange system computer programming, it seems...

Government Employees...

The Taxpayers (the actual ones) are NOT the Welfare Department. Some of you may work for the Welfare Department. But we are not that Department.

Now this means ALL WelFaRe must be terminated. No more Government payouts to what you consider TBTF. No more unnecessary Defense Spending and Tax Subsidies to Large CrAPERaTiOns. No more Plunge Protection Team to manipulate the Stawk Market. No more SoCiAL SeCuRItY. No more AFDC. No more VA Benefits. No more SNAP.

ALL OF IT MUST GO. And if you were furloughed as "unnecessary personel" then you need to understand that YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM and YOU need to find productive employment elsewhere.

I know that the Stock Markets will crash. I know that people may go hungry. But the sad truth is that this will happen anyway and you have just served to MAGNIFY the EFFECTS.

We want to keep it shut down as you have damaged all of us for far too long.

Sincerly your boss...the ones with the Wealth.
