Obama's "You Shut Down That Government" Speech - Live Webcast

Tyler Durden's picture

The first speech by a standing president in 17 years to address a government shut down is certain to be full of sound, fury and lots of blame. Look beyond the traditional platitudes for any mention of the real danger to the US, the debt ceiling, which will hit in just over two weeks and if the shutdown is any indication, the preceding "negotiation" will hardly be smooth and by the numbers. Also, it will finally be disclosed if the teleprompter is a critical government service.

The US has become the joke of the world. Obama and Kerry are determined to attack Syria and then look like fools. Now Obama on the podium looks like a fool.

LOL, car-note. Will he call a home a crib?

But see, Obomba....We The People don't have the option to "routinely" raise our personal debt ceilings whenever we need to pay our mortgage or car payment.  Why do you insist on comparing government to a household?? YOU CANNOT RELATE BECAUSE YOU'VE NEVER WORKED A REAL JOB IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE!

The country is in this postion because of politicians like YOU who create huge things that forces the Treasury to pay these bills you speak so flippantly about not defaulting on.  Maybe you personally didn't create these bills but you're sure in full court press mode on one of the most expensive in our country's history that BEARS YOUR FUCKING NAME.

...and there he goes without taking questions like the ignorant coward he is.  What a joke of a man....and this is our President?  What an absolute embarrassment.

Doc,

You obviously don't relate to the modern progressive family.  I will assume that in your family as in mine, the kids want to go for ice cream every day and want all of the latest stuff, and I as the parent must teach them about budgets and credit, etc.  In the modern progressive family it is exactly the opposite.  The parents are selfish and want all of the latest stuff and their petulant children try to explain to the parents that they need a future.

Here's a thought:

His hands are completely tied - as are those of the Senate and the Supreme Court.  If there was anything any of them could do, they'd be doing it instead of standing on television whining about it.

What this means is that the most powerful man in the world has a few "anarchists" holding him hostage and there's nothing he can do about it...

Kind of begs the question:  Just how powerful is he anyway?

That is just about the size of it.

Same applies to Janet Bernanke, in spades.

And the IMF, and the European central bank, and the Papal bank, and the Bank of East Biggs in rural Backwater County. Everyone is clinging to the edge of a cliff and about to go over. One good push -- or any miscalculation anywhere -- and the entire global house of cards crashes down and it won't take months or even weeks for it to do so. We'll get 24 hours of warning, 24 hours of crisis, and then it will be gone mo'fo's. Just gone.

Clearly Obamacare is more than health care; it is the greatest, most massive transfer of personal wealth in the history of the American government.

Katie Green of San Francisco’s KSFO proves it by two salary comparisons on a California Exchange website that opened today for Obamacare applications. Here is what she found:

A 30-year old single woman with one child making $43,000 a year ends up  with monthly insurance payments of $248 or $2976 annually.

But a 30-year-old single woman with one child making $63,000 a year would pay $471 monthly or $5652 annually.

If the 30-year-old single women each had two children the $43,000 a year mother pays only slightly more per month.

But if the $63,000 a year mother with two children gets a raise where she is now making $79,000 a year, her monthly insurance premium is $640 or $7680 annually.

There are different levels of coverage available; this was the silver plan.  Not only is this wealth destruction but it is a takeover of the private sector by the welfare state. Not the welfare state? In California the exchanges are operated by Democrat interest groups such as Planned Parenthood, Acorn, the NAACP and union organizers who not only receive grant money from the Exchange but whose primary objective imeeting the applicants is voter registration.

And here's the other rub - Obamacare is supposed to provide poor people with healthcare insurance so a medical condition won't bankrupt them. But guess what? It still will because the gold-silver-bronze packages (if I understand correctly) require a 20-40% copay. So, the poor person will still be bankrupted by an expensive medical condition.

One price tag on a premium being bandied about that I heard mentioned by a talk show host this morning for a pre-condition Obamacare policy (not verified he said) was $33,000. Try a 20-40% copay on that one.

Wolf? And your evidence for the Iranian wolf is what? But evidence, fortunately, does exist for the other interview Obama had three days after his phone call with the Iranian president. That wolf?  The notorious warmonger, Benjamin Netanyahu.  The interview could hardly be called negotiation, however, since the prime minister of Israel was in Washington, not to deal, but to command.

Too bad Netanyahu’s trip was ill-timed in that Congress was a little busy with other matters and could not be treated to his lecture again and thus able to give even more standing ovations to the real wolf (in wolf’s clothing).

Here again is the warmonger who when asked September 12, 2001, what the 9-11 attack meant for relations between the United States and Israel replied, ''It's very good,'' playing the U.S. media for the cheap player piano that it is.

Two Hours ago: Netanyahu: Iranian president is 'wolf in sheep's clothing'

(CNN) -- In back-to-back speeches Tuesday to the U.N. General Assembly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the Iranian president, Hassan Rouhani, of seeking to obtain a nuclear weapon, and the Iranian representative insisted that Tehran's nuclear program was intended solely for peaceful purposes.

Rouhani, whose demeanor has been more moderate than that of his predecessor since he took office in August, is "a wolf in sheep's clothing, a wolf who thinks he can pull the wool over the eyes of the international community," Netanyahu said.

Healthcare:  the only solution is to do everything you can to take care of your health and stay away from it.  The 6th leading cause of death in the US:  adverse drug reactions - not overdoses, mind you, just adverse reactions to prescribed and properly adminstered drugs.  Add in hospital infections, malpractice errors, accidental overdoses and the healthcare system is probably in the top 3 causes of death.

But no, just keep indulging yourself in your learned comfort food comfort zone--it's your RIGHT!  And the doctors will help you out when you get sick because that's what's FAIR!  Infantile.

Notice they don't include such things in the statistics:

Number of deaths for leading causes of death 2011
  • Heart disease: 597,689
  • Cancer: 574,743
  • Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 138,080
  • Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 129,476
  • Accidents (unintentional injuries): 120,859
  • Alzheimer's disease: 83,494
  • Diabetes: 69,071
  • Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 50,476
  • Influenza and Pneumonia: 50,097
  • Intentional self-harm (suicide): 38,364

"I think the large problem is (and these estimates are probably at the low end), there are a 100,000 people killed every year in the United States from adverse drug reactions, and an additional 2.1 million seriously injured enough so that they have to go to the hospital in most of the instances."

just 1% of the population accounted for a whopping 21.4% of total health care expenditures with an annual mean expenditure of $87,570. Just below them, 5% of the population accounted for nearly 50% of all healthcare spending. So 6% of the population account for 61+% of all health care expenditures!

I think we need to take a serious look at that 6% and have them move in with Obama!

An excellent speech by Obama. In fact, one of his better public performances. And of course, he is 100% correct on all the facts he cited. It's not normal to defund government to accomplish a legislative action that has failed so many time before.

ACA: Campaigned on it. Won the election on it. Passed both houses. SCOTUS approved it.

Facts.

Meanwhile, this is NOT your father's GOP. This is a totally different animal. Everyone knows 10 people that would easily vote for GOP candidates more habitually if the party had not gone to crazytown. The only people who don't understand this are like 25 years old.

Bring back a moderate GOP.

GOP isn't crazytown, the Dems are crazytown. Every ridiculous ponzi scheme has come from the dems and parties just like them for the past 80 years. They are why the Western world is a basket case and heading for ruin.

Pretty sure the majority of people here would vote for Ron Paul, but otherwise do not vote at all.

Left-Right policy distinctions do not mean a damn thing if the asshole is still an Authoritarian prick. A dictator doesn't stop being a dictator because he decides to force a healthcare plan on everyone.

I am not in the Tea Party but I certainly agree with their premise that less government is better as the government has proven time and time again that they can do one thing and one thing only well: spend money we don't have and do it very inefficiently for the benefit of special interests.  I don't care what side or party you are in, if you don't agree with the premise of fiscal sanity and that debt DOES matter in the long run, than you simply cannot do basic math. Government does not solve problems or create sustainable jobs.  Their very existence is only due to the overburdening of the private sector....which they constantly antagonize and thrwart via crony capitalism, unsound and overbearing regulation, and malinvestment.  For what?  To make people believe they are much more important than they really are. They have done more to increase the inequalities of the population and reduce the quality of life of more people (foreign and domestic) than the most corrupt conglomeration of corporations in the history of the world.  They are NOT accountable to voters because voters mostly have to choose between the lesser of 2 evils since you basically have to be rich to run in the first place or supported by a party apparatus that owns you once you get elected because of the financing they have and will provide you.

Yea I support Ted Cruz.  At least he has the guts to tell the truth about our fiscal situation...as does Rand Paul and a few others. You go to USdebtclock.org and look at the unfunded liabilities and you tell me how to make a 127 T shortfall work when the aggrgate wealth of all US citizens is just over 73T.....all of which doesn't include the 10k people retiring a day and the cost of Obammacare that has yet to be added.  Much like Greece, when the rubber hits the road and it comes time to pay the ferryman, it will be the public sector workers who will be striking and rioting in the streets because they are the ones who will take the most drastic drop in quality of life when the money runs out.  Us middle class private sector slobs have been dealing with the financial repression for years and have at least adapted our lifestyle.  So support unlimited printing and spending without budget or restraint. Support entitlements that can't possibly be paid for unless you think it's possible to tax income and assets at 200% of their worth. And when it all blows up....and it will, i want you to go look in the mirror and ask yourself why you didn't ask anyone how there were going to make the math work and at that moment you may of a small degree of appreciation of what those crazy tea party people and other fiscal conservatives were talking about because it's painfully obvious that what has happened in Europe etc has had no effect on your thinking.....just don't come to my private sector workplace looking for a job.

Blaming the "TEA PARTY" for all of the ills of government just reinforces the argument that the Obama administration was and is targeting them.

Trying to marginalize the ones pointing out how out of control government has become.

Blaming them for everything that the opposition can (scapegoating).

Sicking the IRS and MSM on them.
