Government Shutdown Silver Lining - Good For Personal Privacy

Tyler Durden's picture

The nation's top intelligence officer, James Clapper, is worried:

  • *CLAPPER: SHUTDOWN 'SERIOUSLY DAMAGES' U.S. NATIONAL SECURITY

and so is Senator Grassley:

  • *GRASSLEY `CONCERNED' 70% US GOVT INTELLIGENCE STAFF FURLOUGHED

But - for those who care about personal privacy rights, there is a silver lining:

  • *US GOVT SHUTDOWN HAS HIT NSA 'VERY HARD', AGENCY DIRECTOR SAYS

Ran into a website yesterday that had a screen saying basically, Sorry goverment is shut down you can't get to the webpage you want. That's hilarious! The page is already coded. They had to pay someone to code that page and change the link. Are you kidding me?! Other than that, business as usual, except I feel fewer eyes trying to look up my skirt.

That website's presence shows that the NSA's AUTOMATED hoovering will not pause.

Don't fool yourself.  This faux shutdown doesn't mitigate the NSA's illegal, unconstitutional, indefensible actions one bit, because nobody WAS looking up your skirt.  That won't happen until some apparatchik wants to fuck with you.

At that point they'll look at every, single fucking byte of your entire digital life--and that of all of your associates--looking for ways to get you.

Combining 20/20 hindsight with the so-called Patriot Act, NDAA, and the government's ability to indict a ham sandwich means your ass will then be in court if you're lucky.  If you're not, then "our" government here in the land of the free will render your ass into some secret prison.  Forever.

"For the first time in a long long time, I am proud of the work my representatives are doing in Washington. I hope they stand their ground. The Tea Party's time has come, productive people of the US can rejoice at their newfound voice in Washington."

Sarcasm perhaps? There is no way this is going to fix anything, as they are only fighting over ObamaCare. Neither party is going to address the major long problems. We are still on the same track heading for a collapse.

In the end the GOP will cave in as they did in the past. The GOP is playing into the DNC, by giving the DNC yet another excuse why the economy isn't recovering. The DNC will abuse the shutdown  to gain seats during the next midterm elections. The DNC is doing everything it can to promote a shutdown. They want the GOP to shut it down, so they can use it against them.

The smart move for the GOP is to let Obamacare fail and then blame it on the DNC so they can gain control of the Senate and perhaps the WH in 2016. As it stands its very likely that the DNC will regain it's super majority during the next mid-term election.

(as long as one of there team is running it).

Ron Paul was one of the very few sources of genuine opposition and he is no longer there.  The rest are putting on the exact show their masters want them to.  And their masters do not include you.

Well I have a slight hope that this little skit will actually bring more people to loathe the government.  Peel back the layers of the onion so to speak.

Been monitoring the Cape Hatteras boards and people are pissed.

The government closed the least costly functions and the ones that would inflict the most amount of pain on regular folks.

They shut down the Caper Hatteras National Seashore and chained all the beach access points and the locals are going nuts.  Right in the middle of prime Drum time to boot.

Let's hope that they can keep their anger directed where it deserves to be, at the government.  Not the R's, not the D's, but the Leviathian government.

A government that shuts down access to "our" lands when it feels that we are not behaving how it wants us to.

The government has decided long ago, and gotten away with it, that those aren't "our" lands. Try driving on the "public right-of-way" without a license from the government to do so. If it really was "our" land and right-of-way, there would be no need for a "license" to use it.

LOL. Does that mean that the workplace provides the best place for watching porn or does it mean that the people who have been furloughed have other things to worry about?

Clapper is a fucking liar. Not wittingly.

Wittingly definition 1. Aware or conscious of something.

2. Done intentionally or with premeditation; deliberate

I want to assure Penishead Clapper and Senator Grassy Knoll that my neighborhood is very safe and there's no need for drones or electronic surveillance. I am keeping a close eye on those skateboarders down the street.

Oh, damn, one of them just reached for a cell phone. Call in a drone attack, Roger, Bingo, Attaboy!

Hopefully it the 70% that is the dead weight that were furloughed. Since 9/11 way too many people have been hired on for gov spots in the intelligence agencies.

Maybe some real analysis will get done... "Say, why does Qatar have so much vested interest and funding in the Syrian rebels?" Miracles can happen...

Some friends of mine work for DIA. They were horrified to find out they were deemed "non critical"... lol Hate to break it to them, but I knew that years ago... ;-)

How about furloughing some of those 68,000 troops stationed in Germany or the 48,000 stationed in Japan. They can't all be doing esential work!

This is entirely true.  I mean, really, who authorized giving Biden the top-secret file he was photographed with yesterday?  I betcha he read it in front of the reporter, too, who was reading over his shoulder without Uncle Joe's knowledge.

I don't believe it. I assume they made sure that the money keeps on flowing. Anything can also happen now so they can say "you see, you need us because we didn't see it coming cause you closed us down".

I'll believe when the beast is dead, cremated and the ashes shot into deep space.
