Options Markets Break... Again (And Un-Break 12 Minutes Later)

Tyler Durden's picture

UPDATE: *NASDAQ, NYSE ARCA, AMEX OPTIONS REVOKE SELF-HELP AGAINST CBOE

The stock market is trading down - therefore, options markets have broken:

  • *BATS OPTIONS HAS DECLARED SELF-HELP VS CHICAGO BOARD OPTIONS
  • *BATS: ROUTING TO CHICAGO BOARD OPTIONS EXCHANGE SUSPENDED
  • *NASDAQ OPTIONS MARKET (NOM) HAS DECLARED SELF HELP AGAINST CBOE

Seems that options markets were not broken last night as VIX was banged into the close?

Markets breaking...the new catalyst to drive equities higher!

at this point, "markets" need to "break" in order to prevent sell orders from executing.  afterall, stocks are the only thing this admin has to point to.  but....but....stocks are at all time highs, so times are great.

There are matters of far greater urgency than a bunch of greesy zerohedge day traders not being able to trade options. Media outlets have been eerily silent on the issue of climate change for at least a year and a half, and scientists are becoming extremely worried that little has been done to curb carbon emissions. Read today's article at the Accredited Times for an overview of the threats we face and what we can do to stop climate change:

Derivatives like options should be banned anyway. These tools of the ungregulated free market were the cause of the biggest financial meltdown in history. It's time for regulators to ban derivatives once and for all.

Maybe this is why the markets are acting today like they should have acted yesterday...

The Nikkei was up yesterday, PM's and Nikkei have an inverse relationship. (Currently. That could change tomorrow)

We don't need no stinkiin' options. If an options market breaks in the woods was there ever really a need for an options market?

Doesn't seem right...

I have a different take.

We're starting to see cracks, the largest so far being the scuttling of our Syria mercy bombing. I think the gov "shutdown" is another crack. Lots of other little cracks.

Thing is, thanks to Herb Stein's Law of Sustainability, they are desperate for any and all cracks to give way, so that they don't have to pretend anymore, but rather, will jump into crisis mode.

Novus Ordo Seclorum and all that.

I go back and forth.

However, I think it's improbable that the Masters of the Universe are simultaneously trying keep things together and hoping they fall apart. I'm currently inclined to think that humanity is just a glorified termite hive - with just as much intelligence and forethought.

Too many plates spinning at one time.  Many are beginning to wobble.

That said though, all of these events are precedents in what is coming and you can be assured that once the real shit does hit the fan none of these markets will be functioning.

They will all be closed due to 'system issues' which are being 'worked on until further notice'.

Why anyone would have large amounts of money in this game at this point is beyond me.

I'll tell you what else is broken - the curse on the Pittsburgh Pirates.

After 21 years, finally, a playoff game AND win. The Bucs dismantled the Cincinnati Reds last night. Which is great, because I despise the Reds.

Russell Martin looks like a person who wants to win a World Series title, and won't rest until he does.

Next up: the St. Louis Cardinals. I say Pirates in 5.

Let's Go Bucs!

Dont forget, the Pirates couldn't put a winning season together for 20 years.

Beating up a Dusty Baker managed team is not too hard.  He's a token moron just like our Preezy.

Get back to use when you win it all or the Steeleres win a game.

The playoffs start tomorrow.  What the Pirates won last night was a stupid fucking gimmick cooked up by Bud Selig & Co.  However, your boys deserve to be where they are based on their record, so I won't give you any shit about it.  That being said, I think the Cards are going to wipe the floor with them (and I'm a Cubs fan, so I hope I'm wrong).

...not about "broken" systems, networks or servers.

rather its about security, hardware and software upgrades that must be updated offline then tested in real time.

make no mistake the spate of recent market service interruptions is not coincidental nor random.

broad MSM complicity and "creative writing" regarding outages points to likely NSA/ other government monitoring and intelligence gathering involvement in querying real time trading data more efficiently and effectively
