Russian Embassy In Libya Attacked

Tyler Durden's picture

First it was the Americans. Now it is the Russians' turn. Al Arabiya reports (and Itar-Tass confirms) that "Gunmen attacked the Russian embassy in the Libyan capital Tripoli on Wednesday, Al Arabiya correspondent reported. The sound of gunfire and rocket-propelled grenades could be heard around the embassy, the correspondent added. No further details were immediately available." According to unverified reports on Twitter, the embassy had been evacuated before the attack (the Russian NSA appears to be more efficient than its US equivalent).

The Russian embassy in Tripoli:

RT adds:

The Russian embassy in Tripoli, Libya, has come under fire and there were attempts to get into Russia’s diplomatic compound, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

There has been an incident in Tripoli tonight, in which there was shelling and attempts to enter the territory of the Russian Embassy in this country,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Aleksandr Lukashevich told RT.

According to preliminary information, there are no reports of injuries among the staff.

Nearly two years after Gaddafi was deposed and killed, Tripoli and other Libyan cities have been plagued by violence, lawlessness and factional infighting.

The presence of militiamen remains more visible than actual state security forces in the capital, while vast portions of the oil-producing desert country remain completely out of the central government’s control.

A possible photo from the scene of the attack.

Blood and destruction shall be so in use
And dreadful objects so familiar
That mothers shall but smile when they behold
Their infants quarter'd with the hands of war;
All pity choked with custom of fell deeds:
And Caesar's spirit, ranging for revenge,
With Ate by his side come hot from hell,
Shall in these confines with a monarch's voice
Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war;
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial.

The military order Havoc! was a signal given to the English military forces in the Middle Ages to direct the soldiery (in Shakespeare's parlance 'the dogs of war') to pillage and chaos.

"Likewise be all manner of beasts, when they be brought into the field and cried havoke, then every man to take his part."

It's getting closer.  Can you smell the fear?

Proxies: Qatar/Tribes of Saud backed by America to hurt Syrian and Russians by said nat gas pipeline

War: Economic battles for natural resources.  Which is the basis for most wars.

Muslims are pawns? Not in the Long Game, and not by a long shot.

Today's History Lesson for Paranoids and Conspiracists:

People forget that Islam was a dying religion. It had splintered and become so watered down through time that the religion was disintegrating. In MENA it was being replaced by secularism, particularly of the socialist variety.Then TE Lawrence happened, and the Brits decided to build up a tiny kingdom in the sand around a bunch of goat-herders known as the al-Saud family that they bought and kept bought. In turn al Saud bought off the locals by buying off the local imams, followers of the family religion, a hardcore Koran thumping bunch known as the Wahhabis. Think of them as the Westboro Baptist Church just with swords and a willingness to use them on just about anything. Thieves hands. Adulteress's necks. Whatever needed cutting that day.

They were a backward lot and would have stayed that way if two things hadn't happened: 1) The world went petro-crazy and the Saudis found out they were sitting on oceans of the stuff and 2) The Brits lost their empire and sold it at firesale prices to the USA.

The Saudis flourished under the American military umbrella. They sold oil to everyone at rising prices, and anytime one of the neighbors got out of line, like Saddam's tanks taking over a Saudi border town during the Kuwait Invasion, the US military beat the shit out of them. It was a great deal. The goat herders became extremely rich and powerful, and so did their religious sect.

Wahhabi Islam is perhaps the nastiest variety of Islam since the Prophet himself kicked ass in the Meccan sands 1300 years ago. Again to use the WBC analogy, it makes them look as liberal as new age Methodists by comparison. Like the WBC the Wahhabis take a literal interpretation of their holy book, and the Koran pretty much lays out exactly what the prophet wanted: world domination under his banner. Mohammed's goal was nothing less than a 100% conversion rate, with all resistance being of the futile variety. For background read about Mohammed's destruction of the Banu Qurayzah tribe.

To that end the Wahhabi clerics took the petrodollars from the Saudi royal family and funded missionary operations around the world, sending Wahhabi imams to open up mosques and madrasas throughout Asia, the Middle East, Africa as well as Europe and North America. Flush with cash, these clerics arrived on the scene and really got the locals jumping with the Old Time religion backed by cash. The spread of Wahhabi Islam has displaced these moderate and tolerant sects of Islam with a well-financed, organized extremist and intolerant one.

The Wahhabis see this as part of a very long process, and one they expect to win. For most of their history they were kept in check by equally fervent Christian and Orthodox Christian religions, but these are in decline. Wahhabis don't see secularism as a threat because it has no organizing feature and is morally corrupt.

So in the grand scheme of things, a 200+ year old declining Christian nation and a 800+ year old declining Orthodox Christian nation aren't much of a threat.
