Stocks Jump (But Bonds Don't) As Obama Invites Congressional Leaders For Tea

Tyler Durden's picture

It seems the non-negotiating red-line-making President is willing to umm... negotiate. Depsite Harry Reid's fire-and-brimstone, the WSJ reports that:

  • *OBAMA TO INVITE CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS TO MEETING TODAY (at 530pm ET)
  • *OBAMA SAID TO MEET WITH REPUBLICAN, DEMOCRATIC LEADERS
  • *OBAMA SEEKING FUNDING MEASURE FOR GOVERNMENT, DEBT CEILING HIKE
  • *MCCONNELL, PELOSI, REID ALSO TO ATTEND MEETING WITH OBAMA

Oh to be a fly on that wall? For now, equity algos are buying first and thinking later as bonds remain more stoic.

Obama:  "We're all here because our banker overlords need us to sell this whole debt raise to the American people.  The NSA dug up some good dirt on Mr. Gilligan here, so he's going to tell us the script for making the American people believe we actually give a shit about any of this, and how we're going to all save face while doing what our masters desire.  So Mr. Gilligan, you have the floor...."

That was easy, because there were four pieces of chicken pot pie and only three people at the table. Anyone who tried harder could get more pie.

Now there are four pieces of pie (there is still just 1 earth) but five people at the table. On person doesnt eat. Noone goes away full.

The TEA party will cave when the Old Gaurd Republicans and the biggest doners want them too..at some point, this is going to cost someone on the right a lot of money...that's when the towel will be thrown in.

There are ~800,000 "defense workers" on the payroll...400,000 are sitting at home...that's a lot of money...pressure is building...

The Republicans are now in Obama's "Syria Shoes"...they stepped in a pile of shit and now they're looking for some way to rub it off before they stink up the entire place and get it all over themselves.

Sadly, people here will root for the Republicans, not realizing that this is all a well-choreographed dance that is NOT really meant to make meaningful cuts to govt spending (cuts to both sides of the govt coin- welfare/warfare).  As you (attempt to) point out, the "defense" side of things, the "warfare queens," won't stand for cuts, let alone a continued shutdown.

Nothing is going to implode from money.  Money is not physics.  It has no meaning outside your head.  If numbers representing money threaten death and devastation, the numbers will be changed by decree.

You know this is true.  Recalibrate your thinking.  And btw, note how Syria is off the radar screen, Egypt is off the radar screen, Iran is suggesting a deal . . . and oil is still north of $100.

It will implode once the world  finally gets is and loses faith in the petro- dollar. Once it's made clear that we are going to screw everybody over and they are going to take it, then they will take some concrete actions.

As far as Syria, Egypt, and Iran, that is clearly not settled, and I'm sure the American baboons will wave their flags and cheer once we start bombing brown people again.

"loses faith in the petro- dollar"

The petro-dollar could collapse on its own.  If everyone's unemployed then there won't be sufficient demand for oil (certainly not enough to generate "growth," which is essential for EVERYTHING to work [economies of scale and the fact that growth really equates to profits]).  Sure, a bit of hyperbole, BUT!, contraction will really throttle economies of scale, and we're talking something that relies on MASSIVE volumes to make work.

"As far as Syria, Egypt, and Iran, that is clearly not settled, and I'm sure the American baboons will wave their flags and cheer once we start bombing brown people again."

Seems that this shall be the case, as it has been for so long now.  Empires rarely go out with a whimper...

The only cards Obama holds are the two Jokers.

This is the same guy who is leading with his behind...on everything foreigh and domestic.

If the USA had a real leader, this situation would have been resolved through prior negotiations and compromise between the two parties.

I say keep the 18% government slimdown in place ad infinitum (as CBS News reported yesterday, 82% of the government continues to be funded through non-budgetary procedures).  It proves the vast amount odf meaningless waste out there.

Obama is negotiating for his base in order to raise the debt ceiling to accommodate the continuing wealth transfer from the Republican's middle- and upper-class base to his constituency. The partial funding bills coming from the House and the approaching connection with the debt ceiling are too big a problem for Obama to take a no-compromise position.

His base wants its money.

William H. Frey, writing for the liberal think tank, The Brookings Institute, makes it clear why Obama is fighting for his base and its socialist agenda:

“The Obama and the Democrats believe demography is on their side. Census 2010 made abundantly clear that racial and ethnic minorities, especially Hispanics, are dominating national growth and will for decades to come. The Democratic agenda— favoring broader federal support for medical care, housing, and education seems designed to curry the favor of these groups, which played a huge role in tipping the balance in his favor in several key swing states.”

Frey’s research shows that “minorities mattered in 2008 for three reasons: first, their relative sizes compared with whites increased in each state; second, their enthusiasm for the Democratic candidate was greater than in 2004; and third, white support for the Republican candidate (John McCain) waned in comparison to the previous election.

“The uptick in minority enthusiasm for the first black presidential candidate resulted in higher turnout rates, and larger Democratic vote margins nationally than in 2004. This was the case in most but not all states, including Nevada and Florida, where Hispanics, blacks, and other minorities turned the tide toward the Democrats.”

Election results also reflect the strategy behind the Republican Establishment to run a weak presidential candidate against a Democrat in its efforts to further global socialism. Writes Frey:

“Often overlooked, but just as important, was weaker white Republican support in terms of both turnout and margin. Although whites dominated the electorate in states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana, their tepid support for McCain opened the door for those states’ much smaller minority populations to tip the balance to Obama. In more diverse states like North Carolina and Virginia, minorities would not have made the difference were it not for sharply lower white Republican support than in 2004.”

Frey concluded in 2012: “If the white Republican base turns out in full force, the votes of African Americans and growing Hispanic populations will be necessary for Democratic wins in a slew of interior states with largely white electorate” …the “battle of turnout and its outcome will greatly depend on the enthusiasm of minority voting blocs.”

Based on the Internal Revenue Service’s 2010 database, here’s how much the top Americans make: Top 1%: $380,354, Top 5%: $159,619, Top 10%: $113,799, Top 25%: $67,280, Top 50%: >$33,048.

And you deride the top 20%?

Let’s be clear. There is a massive spectacular transfer of wealth from productive Americans to non-productive Americans. It has being going on for decades but under Obama it has accelerated tremendously.

You need to admit it; your philosophy is socialism. It doesn’t work, it’s going to sink us all and when it sinks we can thank its proponents such as yourself for pushing aside the American Dream, once and for all.

Almost 10 million Americans have dropped out of the labor force under Obama, disappeared; middle class income is down; the people that lost their homes in the housing collapse that shook the nation are still suffering from it and Obama appeases the bankers that designed it. Scandals abound. Just Facts reports --

As of September 3, 2013, the official debt of the United States government is $16.7 trillion ($16,738,618,787,875).[1] This amounts to:

• $52,909 for every person living in the U.S.

• $138,240 for every household in the U.S.

• 100% of the U.S. gross domestic product.

• 526% of annual federal revenues.

Ninety percent of Americans had health insurance and 90% basically were happy with it when Obama came to office; and now he's going to destroy Americans' health care system with an Obamacare money laundering scam, using massive socialism. This is exceptionalism? Does anybody care?

Two things are at work here: One) Obama is an incredibly bad president, perhaps the worst in the history of the country. And, second, Obama every chance he gets makes race an issue with his presidency, dividing and angering large segments of the population. And, then, as a black, he decries racism.

Exactly. And both parties worked 24/7 to politically assassinate the man who got more donors particularly among younger voters in his campaign as did many of the other campaigns put together (albeit in smaller donations) and who polls showed could beat Obama in a presidential election – Ron Paul.

Political corruption trumped the will of the people and representative government and now trumps America's free enterprise supply and demand economy. While America mires deeper and deeper into debt and QE tryanny, wannabe superpowers build to overtake her. What a difference a Ron Paul presidency would have made to liberty, individual prosperity and peace...

This is ALL the fault of "socialism!"  NOTHING has to do with the FACT that the entire premise, no matter what fucking ideological camp is spewing shit, has to do with propagating perpetual growth on a finite planet!

EVERY fucking empire that's collapsed has had its share of people blaming everything on "the other side."  Unless it can be pointed out (documentation) that there were collections of people warning about the effects of "growth" I can only state that it's just the same as it ever was... (the Mayans, perhaps (not proven?), might have been the ONLY ones to figure it out- and, obviously, they didn't find that the "solution" was to resurrect their empire or System.

The "odds" are clearly spelled out here:

http://www.chartoftheday.com/20131002.htm?H

As long as we continue to pay attention to the [false] titans they will continue to use us as pawns.  It's all kind of like that Hollywood(?) saying about not caring what is said "so long as they're talking about me."

We will ONLY "win" when ALL of them lose: they're all playing The Game; as long as they are playing it means the game is still on and is still fucking all of us except the very "exceptional" ones...

"... For now, equity algos are buying first and thinking later as bonds remain more stoic...."

yep - buying with OPM (other people's money).

in other words, the algos are trying to "keep up" their ROI committments and buying the top and don't give a shit when this market tanks - the insiders will all have made their fortunes

and those who have poured their life's savings into these funds will be left with very little.

S&P's are up over 20% so far this year.  What a shit show.  WE WANT MOAR!!!!!

There's a reason that heretofore Obama has refused to negotiate - Reid, knowing that Obama is a wuss, didn't want him anywhere near a negotiating table.  Reid is a dirtbag, but give him credit for having a spine.  I'm sure the last thing Reid wants is Obama to open his mouth and "Syria" the budget impasse with Republicans.

POTUS doesn't vote.  It's a veto.

Reid and all the other LEGISLATORS are responsible for making the pitches to garner the votes.  At the end of the day they want to present a uniform (non-cracked) front to their "bases," either the "welfare queens" or the "warfare queens."

Nothing matters what they SAY: it's pretty well documented that pols will calculate as to what position they take and will quite readily take an opposite stance on something just to provide cover for a future run at reelection.  Look for the completed sausage... (always looks like a shit-turd)

Once again, clarity rings:

Ron Paul: "The Country Is Bankrupt... The People Are Being Bamboozled"

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-10-02/ron-paul-country-bankrupt-peopl...

"neither side is truly looking for spending cuts." (Ron's assessment is the same as mine)
