Man Sets Himself On Fire On National Mall, Near White House

Tyler Durden's picture

Yesterday it was a shooting at a runaway mom driver that shut down the Capitol area for hours. Today, while there have been no shootings in D.C.,  moments ago we just got news of a self-immolation in the middle of the National Mall, where a man allegedly doused himself in gasoline and set himself on fire, suffering life-threatening injuries according to the DC Fire Department.

NBC Washington reports that "Passersby on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., ripped off their shirts to help extinguish the flames after a man apparently tried to set himself on fire Friday, witnesses and authorities said. The man was conscious and breathing when he was flown by helicopter to Washington Medical Center, D.C. police said. There was no immediate report on his condition. The incident, which was reported at 4:24 p.m. ET, occurred on Seventh Street Southwest near the National Air and Space Museum, U.S. Park Police said. Witnesses told several media organizations, including NBC Washington, that they saw the man pour gasoline on himself from a red canister and then set himself ablaze. Police said they couldn't confirm those reports. Nearby joggers stopped and ripped off their shirts to smother the flames, NBC Washington reported."

The burned man was promptly carried off the Mall using a helicopter.

Politico adds:

A fire official says a man has been flown to the hospital after setting himself on fire on the National Mall.

Fire crews responded Friday afternoon to a report of a man on fire at 7th and Madison streets. A witness says she saw a man dump a red canister of gasoline on his head and then set himself on fire.

D.C. Fire Department spokesman Tim Wilson says the man has life-threatening injuries.

His name and age weren't immediately known.

Sky News confirms:

Eyewitness twitter user Hellie Hess reported that "someone just lit himself on fire in the middle of the National Mall "

Other did too

More from Twitchie:

The burning man was promptly carried out by helicopter:

And more pictures:

So is this the start of the American Spring, er, Fall, or will the ashes be promptly buried under the rug?

The young man in Tunisia is of a noble type. College grad, no job, no money, no pussy.

He was reduced to selling veggies by the side of the road and was having his ass hassled by Tunisian cops.

Wait a sec......take away Tunisian and put in 'American'. Nah, they'd be bitching for a free Bozo phone, foods stamps and shit.....

I do get that harmonic tremor that the country seems to be closing on a breaking point though. People starting to come unglued.

She was behaving very erratically, and had already injured a police officer with her vehicle. She was a clear and present danger to someone and had to be stopped. No one knew there was an infant in the vehicle.

That being said, she was kinda right about being electronically snooped on by Obama.

surprised the "heroic" DC capitol police didn't gun him down as well...

could have been two standing O's in two days and another round of "thank you DC police" buttons.

btw turns out mom may not have been mentally ill after all, just kind of panicked after running into a unexpected check point staffed by paramilitary goons in a city she was not familiar with, which was not at the Outhouse's front door as originally reported by the way, but was further down the road. at which point maternal instinct kicked in and she tried, as most people would, to get her and her child away from those who were shooting at her. apparently the capitol police were praised for showing restraint...by waiting a whole 12 seconds before filling her car, with a child in it full of bullets. turns out the wounded police officer, who was first shot, then run over by this crazed women according to the MSM was actually the victim of his own stupidity and poor driving skills, or lack there of.

and the psychotic, death worshiping wastes of skin that inhabit our nations capitol have the nerve to give this blatant act of murder a standing ovation and walk around wearing buttons thanking the DC capitol police for shooting an unarmed mother down in the street...

sick beyond hope of treatment.

Things are getting nuttier and nuttier. Don't think that's planned? Some gal doing crazy things on the last day of a major, three day first responder exercise in DC and now this?

If you haven't seen the documentary "The Fog of War," you should. Absolutely excellent. Since this immolation was reported to be near the Air and Space Museum, it just might have some small chance of a connection to this act from the Vietnam era:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_Morrison

Norman Morrison (December 29, 1933 – November 2, 1965), born in Erie, Pennsylvania, was a Baltimore Quaker best known for committing suicide at age 31 in an act of self-immolation to protest United States involvement in the Vietnam War. Norman graduated from the College of Wooster in 1956.[1] He was married and had two daughters and a son.

On November 2, 1965, Morrison doused himself in kerosene and set himself on fire below Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara's Pentagon office.[2][3] This was probably in emulation of Buddhist monk Thich Quang Duc, who burned himself to death in downtown Saigon of then South Vietnam to protest the repression committed by the South Vietnam government.

Oh, it's not the CIA.  It's some of the hundreds of thousands of retired or booted-out spooks in action, both civilian and former military, the ones who think laws are just impediments to doing the "right thing" as they see it. They're part of the "good old boy" network of former spooks that the current spooks and law enforcement don't want to find:

READ this book from shortly after the COINTELPRO era (1978):

Spooks: The Haunting Of America - The Private Use Of Secret Agents

http://www.zenosbooks.com/our-book-blogs/1855-spooks-the-haunting-of-ame...

SPOOKS probes the private use of secret agents by multinational corporations, the politically powerful, and the rich. Since the beginnings of the American intelligence community, literally thousands of spies have left federal employment to work for those industries and those individuals that are wealthy enough to afford them. Their impact on the way American business is done and life is lived has been at once profound and largely unseen. In a real sense, America has become ‘haunted’ by the spooks its government has trained and then turned loose on the public. Private CIAs and Mission Impossible agencies-for-hire have sprung up in virtually every major commercial center, and within most of the ‘Fortune 500,’ corporations as well. Unlike the CIA, these private apparats are in no way accountable to the public—only to their employers.

"Fabulous insight into the secret world of intelligence

By A Customer on December 9, 1997

It has been some time since I read this book which I found completely by chance in a used book store. Having an interest in the subject, I purchased it and subsequently found it to be full of information about the intelligence community and what the agents do when they leave the FBI, CIA, NSA (you fill in the blank) etc. In one paragraph on Prince Barnhard of the Netherlands, the author provides more background and insight into the powerful structures that govern the world than could be found in years of reading Time magazine. If you see this book, buy read it and do not lend it to anyone.

--------

Finally, ask yourself this - how difficult would it be for these individuals to covertly manipulate already unstable individuals to do what they want them to do exactly when they want them to do it in order to mould national public opinion via statistically irrelevant but sensational events?  It wouldn't take any kind of "MK Ultra" style crap to do that.

Tuesday, February 6, 2007: Firings of U.S. Attorneys draw Senate's attention - The Senate Judiciary Full Committee hears testimony on the firings of several U.S. attorneys, subject title was “Is the DOJ Politicizing the Hiring and Firing of U.S. Attorneys?”, Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty testifies.

Friday, February 9, 2007: Seung-Hui Cho purchases his first handgun, a .22 caliber Walther P22 semiautomatic pistol, 10 round capacity.

Tuesday, March 13, 2007: AG Alberto Gonzales at a press conference admits "mistakes were made" in the Bush administration's firing of eight federal prosecutors and says his deputies may have given Congress an incomplete accounting of the dismissals.

Tuesday, March 13, 2007: In an interview with the "Good Morning America" early morning show, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, for the first time calls for the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

Tuesday, March 13, 2007: Seung-Hui Cho buys 9mm Glock 19 semiautomatic pistol, 15 round capacity standard, 17, 19, or 33 optional.

Monday, April 16, 2007: Seung-Hui Cho, a senior-level undergraduate student at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University kills 32 people and wounds in the shooting rampage which came to be known as the "Virginia Tech massacre."[

Thursday, April 19, 2007: Attorney General Alberto Gonzales testifies before the Senate Judiciary Full Committee. PBS Newshour said, "By the accounts of Democrats and Republicans alike, Alberto Gonzales entered today's hearing with his job on the line."

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" is a philosophical thought experiment that raises questions regarding observation and knowledge of reality.

If a mother is shot to death by DC police and no one is around to witness how the incident began, is the  reporting credible?

If a man self-immolates and no one knows his reasons, will he be silenced too?

Nowadays, we appear to have more information, and less insight. Congress has chosen to be deaf and dumb, rather than inquiring. Applauding hyped-up gov. men for killing a panicked mother over a traffic violation shows that they are either too stupid or too corrupt to hold high office. Dangerous, educated fools.  In my opinion.

The family of the mother shot to death in DC yesterday includes a police officer, and the family's lawyer is no doubt compiliing useful evidence from many sources. How ridiculous will DC look when the claque is shown to be bloodthirsty, and ignorant, no matter how high and mighty they may believe themselves to be.

Claque, defined as: a group of persons hired to applaud an act or performer. 2. a group of sycophants. Always ready to applaud the person/s they follow.

Preconditioning for something very interesting,

Yesterday they killed a woman with a baby, Today they drugged some black guy, and poured gas over his head, and shot a video,..

Somebody in the Government is trying to make it look like DC is going crazy,...

Then you have the cops driving into barricades, like they're chickens with their heads cut off.

A few weeks ago you had Navy-Yard where the CERT teams were ordered to stand down while Navy brothers were being slaughtered, ... something is about to happen.

***

Lastly, NEVER forget on this Miriam Carey story, first 5 hours MSM reported a 'man with a gun was shooting cops and driving around hitting cars', ... it took the MSM over 5 hours to admit that the shooting was done 100% by the cops, and that the not a 'mad gun man' had killed the mother, but that she had been shot by a cop.

Then you have the cop driving into the barricade, which means too many agency's NOT communicating.

My take is everything is out of control, everybody has their own cop shop, ... to tell truth folks its the Tower of Babel, and you can see that.

But I consider myself lucky. My family was destroyed. But that poor bastard in Germany had his family literally annihilated.

Arrests are mandatory for the police in New Hampshire for domestic violence. That is not law. That is police department policy. Laws come from the Legislature and the Governor's office together. God only knows where these policies come from. The State's Attorney General also has a mandatory arrest protocol for domestic violence. I call these policies, procedures and protocols The Second Set of Books. You never cover the Second Set of Books your junior year in high school. That because we are not suppose to have a Second Set of Books. This is America-we have the rule of law.

Truer words never spoken.

I really don't understand what setting yourself on fire is going to prove or why you would think it would change a nation. In two or three days you might get your name in the paper but after 5 days nobody will remember you. If you want to make a meaningful and impacting statement, don't hurt yourself or any innocent people.

Well it is one of the more timeless and shocking types of protest.  It's not that forgettable.  People still remember the Buddhist Monks that sat themselves on fire decades ago.  Still remember self emmolation acts from a year or so ago in Europe.   I may disagree with the "no one will remember you" sentiment.  Now of course the act has to be shown over and over by MSM which I haven't exactly seen though last night there were many discussions about the "delusional lady" gunned down with a baby in the car.

I wonder how that news would've been spinned had that driver been white and southern?  I have an idea but can't know for sure.

He didn't 'set himself on fire', he had an accomplice that dumped gas on him, and was running a tripod and camera, and there are witnesses, and one was a lawyer, and there are videos,

What this story proves is the USA MSM are liars as they're still reporting 'he set himself on fire'.

The man was drugged, and most likely a US GOVERNMENT agency, put him in the park and lit him on fire to take the killing of Miriam Carey off the news.

***

Katy Scheflen, a furloughed civil rights attorney in the Justice Department, said she stopped because she saw "a guy with a tripod set up."

Scheflen said another man, who she thought the tripod with a camera was filming, then took a red can of gasoline, poured it over his head.

"At that point we didn't know what was going, maybe it was some sort of stage protest," Scheflen said. "And then he set himself on fire and went up in flames," she said. "Whoosh."

I don't know if your facts are right, but the analysis is not ... the point of setting him on fire while recording it would be so that the footage could later be used in MSM puff pieces that show how everything has gone off the rails now that the govt is shut down.  They are desperate for hardship stories like that to scare the Repubes into folding.

Winston smith, that book brings to the front the retired .gov agents impact on America, One hopes these men are moral patriots, one fears many are neither. will look for that title: Spooks the haunting of America. thanks for that.

I was distresed at the death of miriam at the hands of .gov agents who showed no courage or morality and seemed to put it kindly total screw ups (ala the police car running into known barriors, damn) car chases ala key stone cops.

I was also surprised at the lack of support when I posted on ZH she must have justice for her unlawful death, seems more on ZH are coming around to that point.

It doesn't seem they can find anything on Miriam, so it looks like they were spooking her into a corner and killed her to make a statement to their bosses. A horrible way to go. I wish it had been someone breaking through to scare the entire political camp!

i just had a flat tire.  Sleepy Chicagao suburb with road work going on so virtually no traffic.  No shoulder either so I put on hazard lights and began changing flat in traffic lane.  Cop pulls up behind me puts on flashers and offers to help.  Nice right?  He helped and when we were done he asked me for my ID.  What?  Your ID sir please.  I asked why he would need my ID when I just had a flat tire.  Procedure.  I didn't decide to push it since choosing your battles wisely may be apprapo in these days and times.  WTF?  ID for helping me change a flat???  We are over the edge.  And the edge is moving farther away.  I was caught in and undertow in Lake Michigan as a teen and was a good swimmer.  The whole atmosphere of our land feels kind of like that undertow.  Though an undertow you don't fight.  I think that is their hope.  That we don't fight.  The undertow is upon us.

That happened to me a while ago. I was helping a lady who ran out of gas when the cops pulled up. They got the explanation & then asked me for ID. I asked why & they said for their report, I'm the 'good samaritan'. I haven't gotten any tickets since. =))
