When, according to Google trends, Americans are suddenly more interested in the "Government Shutdown" than perrential sources of distraction such as "Miley", "Kardashian" and "Bieber", it may be time to panic.
Then again, maybe not: after all the great unwashed masses still have their "iPhone."

American taxpayers should firmly insist that government "rightsize" itself very quickly, which would mean 30% to 45% of government employees (mostly unionized) be let go, the remaining ones become as efficient/productive as private sector workers, and not only would government services ACTUALLY IMPROVE, but the American Taxpayers would save a minimum of 1 trillion USD annually.
Actually, that number of unemployed workers would crash the economy and send tax receipts into the sub basement.
Not to mention to knock-on effects of no government services, many of which are both short and long term economic needs.
They're more efficient that private workers, esp. health insurance and pensions.

I know its scary, and those numbers are big, and math has no pity or remorse(and is no doubt a racist, paternalistic construct) but let's do some thinking here...mmmkay Sparky?
Let's say we are looking at 1 billion Benniebux that come to Uncle Sugar from the extortion of income tax recepits amongst the idiots who work in productive fields. Uncle Sugar hires 20,000 people at 50K per year to dig holes, because ol' Uncle has all manner of shovel ready projects upon which his new hires can commence to shovelin'.
Just for the sake of arugment let's say that these people pay an effective Federal tax rate of 15% (in reality I know it's a little lower on an income that size but not too much, I'm using this to illustrate a point). Across all 20K of our new shovelers, Uncle Sugar now receives back 150 milliion of the 1 billion Unc spent.
In what universe it it mathematically possible to start with a number, reduce it by 85%, and then claim it is somehow a net gain to have 15% of the original number left? How is it not a net tax gain for Uncle and those he is shaking down to not spend that billion in the first place?
I await your comedic and no doubt ad hominem response on how math works on your planet and how your claim of lowered tax receipts due to the loss of government workers is mathematically possible. This oughta be a hoot.
And that belies the real reason why HSA, and other paramilitaries have the numbers to intimidate and enforce; They can't get jobs in the regular civilian sector so they rely on the government. It was bad enough when these were just lazy bureaucrats who sat at desks, but now they are strapping on boots and toting AR-15s and playing tough guy.
And you are paying for them, whether you like it or not.
The remaining (and dwindling) "Taxpayer Base" would be in for a nasty shock if all of these "non-essential employees" became unemployed. Don't think any "savings" would appear as a reduction in taxes - the "savings" would be "reallocated" to "deserving causes" within the hierarchy, whilst the newly unemployed would be facing an interesting time (seeing as workforce participation isn't exactly rosy).
Seeing as "The Devil finds Work for Idle Hands" there would be quite an incentive to redeploy these people, and fast (since they certainly have inside knowledge of how the system operates). Wonder whis will be the next ME Country accused of using "Weapons of Mass Destruction" on their populace??
