And then the rumors of a "proposal" were confirmed...

House Republicans will offer the White House a proposal:
Short-term limit increase, if accepted, will have no add-ons or conditions
Increase will allow time for continued negotiations over spending, debt
Under the plan, the Treasury Department wouldn’t be able to use so-called extraordinary measures to further extend borrowing authority, creating a hard six-week limit, said two aides requesting anonymity to discuss the proposal.
Summed up - the Republicans want to shift the debate back to spending issues without losing too much face

"yet another episode of can kicking, one which resolves the near-term stress points and pushes all the hard decisions to the future. As for the key issue on the table, Obamacare, it will be quietly, pardon the pun, tabled. Which, just as Bank of America said, is the compromise option. As long as the ACA is a topic of discussion no agreement can be achieved. Which is why we tend to agree: ultimately this will probably be the loophole used by Boehner and the republicans to fold once more.

'Property Tax' was non-existent or a joke, we used only cash. We had no Income Tax to file. The only people "monitored" were loudmouths and two witty town-drunks when VIPs came to town. No one got fired or laid off. We did not have drugs, or go hungry. Even as a child, I could safely walk anywhere in town, 24/7. Fear for personal safety was unknown to me. The only time I saw a cop was when there was a (rare) car accident.
My indulgence of "sweets" was a visit to the confectionery shop on Sunday afternoon, after a movie matinee, which was typically some wholesome American film (Bond, Clint Eastwood, Disney...). TV programming was 2 channels, that ran at 4 PM to Midnight. 2PM to midnight on weekends. I only got to watch TV on Sat and Sunday afternoons, which was typically a science or Disney program. But I recall watching: Bonanza, Big Valley, Lost in Space, The Saint, The Avengers, Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, Laurel & Hardy, Charlie Chaplin... Wholesome stuff! No overt/gratuitous violence, murder or mayhem, when compared to today's TV programs, movies or video games. I read comic books like Superman and Batman (translated into our language), when I had some spare change. I spent my Allowance on a monthly movie matinee and confectioner's store, and on comic books. Ah, the luxury of such indulgences.
We had a coal-stove for heat, electric stoves for cooking. A fridge yes. A standalone freezer no. A freezer was not needed, as we got fresh groceries every few days from nearby store that we walked to. Only organic food was available. We had a Water heater in the (one) bathroom for bathing and the washing machine. In the kitchen we had a small electric water heater, to quickly heat water for cooking. I don't recall the water being chlorinated, as it tasted so great. The town water came from fresh springs in the nearby hills.
Going to church was not outlawed, but only old people went to church (because of upbringing and habit). The only time we needed a "baby sitter" was on New Year's Eve ('Sylvester'), when the grown-ups went to the Sylvester Ball. Otherwise our parents did not "eat out", and they took us with them wherever they went. Instead of going to bars, we went to eat & drink at each other's houses or apartments. In the summer we'd go on vacation to the Sea for 3 weeks. No yachts or speed boats, but it was Heaven!
We knew how to slaughter animals and use every part of it. Our parents knew how to make Preserves, how to Pickle, how to make sausages and salami, etc. We used the composted 'poop' from the outhouse to fertilize the gardens every Fall, after everything was harvested and the dried remains were burned in a bonfire, and the ashes scattered back on the garden. In the Fall we'd go mushroom hunting in the hills. People knew that peppers and sauerkraut were rich in Vitamin C, since (Jaffa) oranges were not always available.
As kids, we'd make our own go-carts (in small teams), and compete. In the winter we'd make our (1 or 2 person) racing sleds, and compete down the town roads. The elderly would get pissed off with the slick and icy conditions this created, so they'd dump their stove ashes onto the roads and sidewalks. We'd then promptly dump fresh snow on the parts that slowed our racing track. We'd walk up the hill with our Alpine skis and ski down. All day long. No lifts. Only using your own leg power. I knew of only 1 fat kid in our primary school.
I recall a tall, African man being in our town one time, and him going to the town pool. We were all amazed at his color, his white teeth, and how pale palms. We kids gathered around him, like a curiosity. Which is what he was. He was not questioned or bothered in any way when he swam in the town's Olympic-size pool. We still talked about him for weeks afterwards, till the whole town had heard about it, and we all speculated if he was some African political dignitary or something.
When I look at all the modern "conveniences" and "labor saving devices", I shake my head and ask myself: "Why do I 'need' this stuff?" When I looked at the stuff I had loan on, I used to say [while humming to the song "Once in a Lifetime"]: "This is not my beautiful house, this is not my beautiful car, this is not my beautiful wife." They are all on loan, on installment. As long as I make my payments and service fees.
When I look at most TV programming, I want to vomit. When I listen to the MSM talking heads or our ploticians, I get disgusted (with contempt of their willful ignorance and BS).
To me the US does not seem "communist", as I see none of the similarities to the ones I've experienced and described. It does not seem "Nazi" either, as I don't see any "cultural or ethnic cleansing". The US seems more like a bizarre mix of a Banana Republic, part Socialist and part Fascist state -- that is soooo messed up, but yet feels competent and entitled to tell the rest of the world how to run its business. If I did not live it, I would not believe it.
And I want to believe. But I can't. Not w/o my head exploding.

if the .gov did default it would be obummer's fault and his alone. the treasury takes in more than enough to pay for ss medicare troops and service the debt. the only thing it would mean is the gubmint would actually have to opperate on a balanced budget
