Protesting Veterans Tear Down DC Barricades, Chant "Shut Down The White House"
The "Million Vet March" in Washington D.C. appears to be escalating as reports of barricades being torn down, police in riot gear and snipers being deployed, and a growing crowd at The White House chanting for its shut-down suggest the people are growing restless.

Protesters have gathered in front of the White House in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, according to reports.
Park police in riot gear were deployed in front of the building.
“US Park Police have arrived in front of WH. Some in riot gear! Tea party/veteran protesters start booing,” wrote CNN’s Jim Acosta on Twitter.
A rally took place at the World War II memorial and headed to the White House, reported NBC Washington. Several thousand demonstrators came out, it said.
NBC reported that people were carrying barricades that were likely from the WWII memorial to the White House area.
The DC Police Department said its officers are on the scene.
“MPD is on the scene at White House with USSS & USPP concerning protest – marchers using sidewalk,” it wrote on Twitter.
Commentator Sarah Palin and Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) were on the scene and spoke to demonstrators.
The organizers of the protest described themselves as the “Million Vet March.”
It said that veterans and military members are “being used a political pawns in the ongoing government shutdown and budget crisis,” its website reads.
Jeff Tompkins, a protester, told NBC that “it should be open to everyone to come down here and see this … this is not just and not fair,” referring to the WWII memorial.

I pass no judgement. I only would like to see things less hypocritical: when LIVES were on the line I would have liked to see more support to stop the illegal wars.
A long time ago in a work assignment I found myself in Stockholm on May 5th: somewhat ironic, no? Me and a colleague strolled to a near by town square (I think it was pretty much the heart of Stockholm) and watched everyone celebrate. My colleague looked at me and asked me if I noticed anything odd. I had to wait for his response- "no reporters, no TV." No one was at home "watching." Everyone was out. It was not made for TV viewing (and it predated all the current mobile media devices).
I'd prefer to see actions that had people doing stuff that progressed toward no govt involvment being required for anything. Withdraw your energy from the System: the System only gets its energy from you; if you confront it it only takes more energy from others to combat you; and, well, let's face it, the REALLY big anti-war crowds didn't phase the System, it caused it to push more NSA crap on us all.
Something stinks in the WH and I believe it is corruption. If you find that acceptable, you are the one who is confused.

I'm a vet. I didn't vote for Obama (ever): I've voted for Ron Paul. I detest how veterans are paraded around as tools. I also detest the fact that we're supposed to elevate ANYONE above anyone else. Further, all those serving AFTER Vietnam (of which I was one) VOLUNTARILY enlisted. If you feel screwed by the govt then get the fuck in line with everyone else. It is, after all, one big fucking welfare orgy now isn't it?
You either want to shut the govt down (cease all handouts) or not.
I know someone who took TWO bullets in his body in Iraq. Partially disabled. This guy EXPECTS to retire early so he can live off disability (he's a heavy machinery mechanic- yeah, it's brutal work, but he's doing it now). Again, the guy VOLUNTEERED. He EXPECTS those entitlements. My problem with this is not that I don't want him to see his entitlements, but what happens if it comes to the point where it's not possible? I raised this concern with him and he became a bit beligerant, suggesting that it better damn well happen, like getting angrier and or violent would always cause money to fall out of the sky.
So, really, what is the difference in this with the "welfare" folks? Everyone was sold this "dream" that did not or could not ever materialize. THAT is the underpinning. We've lied to ourselves. I've watched friends who were FORCED in to war die off, having been jerked around by the govt. And keep in mind that folks from the Vietnam war didn't recieve all the great Madison Avenue propaganda of "Support Our Troops" shit. THOSE vets were likely shunned by the establisment because THOSE vets were the ones actually responsible for stopping a BIS war: POWER pushed up against them because they attacked POWER (shit like fragging; their underground news papers etc.. Instead of protesting things that actually matter to current or recent servicemen and women including the endless series of overseas conflicts and deployments since '01 (two friends who are either are on 3rd or 4th tours in Iraq/Afghanistan), the huge backlog of disability claims in the VA system, the unemploment problem for recently discharged vets, or the large and continued mental issues problems including the high rates of attempted suicides/suicides, several hundred vets (organized for political purposes regarding the gov't shutdown) protest this issue to score cheap political points.
I spent plenty enough time putting my body in harms way confronting angry mobs of war supporters. All the political shit? Yeah, FUCK IT!
