Foodstamp Program Shutdown Imminent?
When over the weekend, a Xerox "glitch" shut down the EBT system, better known as foodstamps, for nearly the entire day across 17 states leaving millions without "funding" to pay for food leading to dramatic examples of the basest human behavior possible, some of the more conspiratorial elements saw this merely as a dress rehearsal for what may be coming in the immediate future. While there was no basis to believe that is the case, a USDA (the currently shuttered agency that administers the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) memo obtained by the Crossroads Urban Center in Utah carries in it a very disturbing warning for the 46+ million Americans currently on foodstamps.
To wit: "understanding the operational issues and constraints that States face, and in the interest of preserving maximum flexibility, we are directing States to hold their November issuance files and delay transmission to State electronic benefit transfer (EBT) vendors until further notice." In other words, as Fox13News summarizes, "States across the country are being told to stop the supplemental nutrition assistance program for the month of November, pending further notice."

More on this dramatic development which, if implemented, would will result in significant unpredictable outcomes across the nation:
“This is going to create a huge hardship for the people we serve here in our food pantry,” says Bill Tibbits who is the Associate Director at Crossroads Urban Center.
They posted a letter from the USDA on its Facebook page. It says in part, “in the interest of preserving maximum flexibility, we are directing states to hold their November issuance files and delay transmission to state electronic benefit transfer vendors until further notice.”
“What this means if there’s not a deal, if Congress doesn’t reach a deal to get federal government back up and running, in Utah about 100,000 families won’t get food stamp benefit,” says Tibbits.
In other words, tens of thousands of Utah families may not be able to feed their children come November.

“People out here are going to go without food,” says Loralee Smith whose been homeless since August and says the uncertainty is making her uneasy about where her next meal will come from. “I’m on food stamps, I don’t know if I’m going to get them, a lot of people are on food stamps and they don’t know if they’re going to get them.”
Others say if SNAP shuts down, they’ll find a way to feed themselves.
One hopes such "alternative" feeding arrangements will be peaceful, although in the most heavily armed nation in the world, and arguably the one where a massive portion of the population is now fully reliant on the welfare state for virtually every daily need, it is easy to see cutting off daily bread to tens of millions has a less than happy ending.
As the report notes, for people out on the streets like Richard Phillips, "It could impact us and it’s going to cause problems because you’re going to come to find out that people are going to steal and do what they have to do to survive."
Such a realization could come as a very unpleasant wake up call for the millions of other Americans who still live in their Ivory Towers, focusing on the daily gyrations of the S&P500, and largely oblivious of how the rest of America lives.

I recommend if you are any where near a chapter to attend a burial. They are deeply profound and poignant. Each child is named and the coffin is passed around to all. We become the child spiritual family. It's nondenominational so anyone of any faith is welcome. There's a family up in L.A. that attends all our San Diego burials. The boy,now ten, was abandoned in a dumpster with his twin sister. She died but they found him in time. Seeing that boy with tears in his eyes passing the casket reminds me of the preciousness of life, it's fragility and how quickly it can change. Yes, I can come off as a hard ass at times but I do have a soft side that doesn't get shown too often here.

Maybe I'm a devious SOB, but if I were TPTB and needed to "cull the herd", I'd do it in a way that makes the least waves -- to preserve the infrastructure and assets.
E.g. I'd start vaccinating people against some really scary virus that we expect Al-Q to release. That would ensure attendance/compliance. People would get called by their SSN. Then I'd give placebo vaccines to all the non-tax-paying sheep I wanted to cull, and real vaccines to the productive/taxpaying populace. Note that the latter group represents not only 53% of the population, but all the skill sets. Thus, no "skills" are lost, but only those 47% who passively depend on the rest (53%). The one Caveat is that there are some states, where no Federal Income Tax is required (FL, TX, WA...), so you'd need some additional "selection" criteria.
But, like I said, this is just a devious (Alex Jonesian) thought experiment of what TPTB could do. Lest people get too bent out of shape, or the LEAs start knocking on my door.

I humbly disagree with both points. First, they want it to run wild with absolutely no control for at least some period of time to scare the great unwashed into two things. 1. Accepting that we need a "homeland security force" of some sort to maintain the peace. 2. To take additional freedoms away from us as it is the only way to keep us safe and try to get life back to normal.
Second, they know how big this will be. Huge in inner cities where coruption and lack of education are most prevelant. Fairly small in rural America where people are used to being self-reliant.
There isn't enough military to secure the whole country, they only need to secure the cities which will be difficult enough. Control them and you control the nodes of transportation, energy delivery, food distribution, medical care.
If you want to know where it will be worst, just check those red/blue voting maps by county. Try to avoid living in those small but densely populated blue areas.

Maybe you father was ignorant of the fact that those rioters in Watts were NOT burning down THEIR property. Most of the rioters had NO property to burn down. Most of the property was owned by white, often Jewish, landlords.

This is my problem. I am far enough from downtown that it may get ugly but it may not. I am also far enough out that getting out and to the wilderness is certainly possible. I am not sure if buggin out or buggin in is the way to go. I would hate to bug in and be stuck on the wrong side of a check point or something. My gut says to bug out and fast, I have my pack and am ready to go, but I actually may not need to. I guess the way to go is bug out, listen to the radio for a few days, and see where things end up.
I live on the outskirts of los angeles over in van nuys and my situation/thinking is the same way. But, I don't think heading into the local hills is a safe bet. Because ALOT of other people will be doing the same thing, depleting local wildlife food resource. No, I plan on following the mountains up into oregon then washington, maybe canada... It's a long ways but anywhere there are less people is better. The reason why I'm going so extreme is because I think that once this shit starts happening it's gonna snowball, both socially and economically... We simply don't have the infrastructure anymore....
If it really does go bad, head over to the coast and procure a sail boat. Less than two weeks and you are up in the Pacific NW. The coast is sparsely populated for the most part and you can anchor offshore if necessary. If you move quick, piracy will not yet have evolved.
My teens were spent on the coast of Washington state and I still have friends and some family living there. You should know that the area outside of the major population centers (Seattle, Portland, Tacoma, obviously but also Olympia, Bellingham and any medium-sized city) is populated by people who have likely lived there their entire lives. And so did their fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers, cousins, aunts and uncles. They go back generations and it takes considerable character to escape.
