I worry about the Obama haters missing the point that Bush, Clinton, Obama are all the same puppets. Obama is no better, andeven worse than Bush, who himself was a disaster. If you want anything resembling what America was, you have to return to some semblance of what the system as designed by the "founding fathers" was like. There was no universal suffrage and voting was not something you did you secret. In other words, there were natural barriers against predatory use of the democratic process. The major flaw with America as it was founded was the protection of the institution of chattel slavery, which Lincoln and the Republican Party corrected so excuse me but the right side won the civil war, despite its flaws. The welfare state came into being, in the form we know today, because the right to vote is granted indiscriminately and the act is performed privately. This form of democracy is inherently unstable. Unfortunately, this is not understood by... anyone. Which means there will be no correction. Wake up and smell the shit in the air; the age of western republican freedom has ended, forever, period.
If we want to restore it, it will requite a radical rethinking and restructuring of the whole system, something nobody is ready to do. For one, it might help to use a bicameral legislature, one elected by universal suffrage (to block abuse against the lower classes) and another elected by taxpayers (to block abuse against those who actually have to fund the government). If the founding fathers of America had done such a great job, the United States would not have gone through a civil war and eventually gotten to where it is now. And yet freedom lovers worship them? Nonsense. They did their best but we're going to have to do better.
