Tyler Durden's picture

UPDATE: There will be two votes by the Senate on the deal by 8pm. One on cloture (requires 60 votes), and one on final passage (simple majority)... then it's on to the house...

*SENATE VOTES 83-16 TO ADVANCE ACCORD TO END U.S. SHUTDOWN (cloture)

*SENATE HAS ENOUGH VOTES TO PASS MEASURE ENDING FISCAL IMPASSE (Deal Done)

We assume there will be the normal grandstanding with every Senator wanting to get their soundbite in for saving the world... but the vote is about to occur (expected around 6pm) before sending it to the House for apparent rubber-stamping... we will see of course...

We will be right back here in Jan/Feb anyway, this solves NOTHING!

Hey Rand, go ahead and point at me, three fingers are pointing right back at ya.  And for the record, people like you who vote for Ozero, are they any better?

What should the republicans do, just cave?  I guess so according to you.  they voiced their opposition, and will continue to do so until Ozerocare is fixed or repealed.  Ozerocare will be a boondogle my friend, just you wait and see.

At least some Repuglicans want to cut spending, where most if not all Demoncrats want to keep the status quo...to hell with that!

This thing ain't over by a long shot.

I voted for Obama the first time around because I believed some of what he said like ending the spying and the wars and I mistakenly thought he'd be better than McCain and that somehow it would be better to have shit sandwich instead of douchebag.  I have since learned that it is all bullshit and will never vote R or D again.    You are still listening to the bullshit and feeding the machine by voting for these guys.  I was mistaken to believe in either Team and I admit it.  When you're ready, the first step is to admit you have a Team problem.

No, the team thing turns me off right about now, problem is there is no other team with any ideas or guts either...Americka is headed for a wasteland, that much I can tell ya...unless things change BIG TIME!

Stop making excuses for these fuckers!  At the very least, you are excusing them from doing their jobs because they are more interested in being elected than in doing what they promised voters.  But really it is far, far more than that.   So long as people find excuses there will be no change.

A big problem is that politics just doesn't attract good people, it attracts politicians — the lowest form of human life. There are exceptions, of course, but they're so rare they prove the rule. That's why it's wise to attempt to limit government; not because humans are inherently evil, but because the people drawn to government usually are.

That said, the more we see of this circus, the more convinced I become that limited government is always at best a temporary phenomenon because control is always in the hands of the worst people society has to offer, and they will always work to increase their own power.

The Last Conference

By Jonathan Strong October 16, 2013 4:30 PM

At the last GOP conference meeting of the two-week government shutdown, no lawmakers went to the microphones to give their take.

Instead, after Speaker John Boehner told Republicans they had “fought the good fight,” they all rose up to offer a standing ovation. “It was one of the easiest meetings we’ve ever had,” says Representative Mick Mulvaney of South Carolina.

“I think he has strengthened his position in leadership,” Representative John Fleming says about Boehner. “He hung in there with us. He’s been reluctant to go to these fights and now that we have stood up and fought for our values and he’s been there with us, leading, I think his stock has risen tremendously. He has great security as our leader and our speaker.”

The message from Boehner and majority leader Eric Cantor was unity, with warnings not to point fingers of blame.

“Everyone in this room ran on the Republican ticket,” Cantor told colleagues.

“We all agree Obamacare is an abomination. We all agree taxes are too high. We all agree spending is too high. We all agree Washington is getting in the way of job growth. We all agree we have a real debt crisis that will cripple future generations. We all agree on these fundamental conservative principles. . . . We must not confuse tactics with principles. The differences between us are dwarfed by the differences we have with the Democratic party, and we can do more for the American people united,” he told them.

Walking out of the meeting to the throng of reporters, the conservatives kept to that script, but the moderates drew their knives out for the Right.

Representative Peter King of New York urged more Republican officials to speak up about Senator Ted Cruz and “condemn him for what he did.”

Representative Aaron Schock of Illinois said the lesson of the episode was that Boehner should cut out the far-right flank and work with centrist Democrats.

Most of the top conservatives who pushed the House GOP into an Obamacare fight weren’t very introspective, offering positive words about the fight and hope for victories to come.

One conservative, however, did say he had learned a valuable lesson.

“Don’t bite off more than you can chew,” said Representative Dana Rohrabacher of California.

OK, I know that I am fairly new here (in comparison to some), but I am also an old guy and have trouble adapting to change (and hope, come to think of it).  So, can I make a request of y'all?  Whenever you mention FSA, I tend to think of the FSA.  When referring to the Free Shit Army (vice the Financial Serives Authority in the UK) can we use "F$A" instead?

Today, after years of watching the two political parties do the exact same shit over and over again, it just boggles my mind that anyone with half a brain could think there there are actual good guys and bad guys in Washington. Normally intelligent people are parroting all the same stupid partisan talking points they read on the Huffington Post or Fox News and getting very angry at anyone who disagrees with their finger pointing game.

It is amazing what a bunch of dumb fucks the Americans are these days. How it is possible that people with IQs over 80 can live in the same world as you and I and still insist that there is any difference between Republicrats and Demlicans is beyond me. Believing in the Red Team Blue Team meme today shows the same critical thinking ability of a pro wrestling fan that insists that that shit is real.

The thing is, my generation is only now becoming politically aware.  Like in the last 18-24 months.  And they have only known Obama (since starting paying attention to politics).  And to them the entire spiel is quite convincing.  They actually believe Obama and the Dems want to make everything better but the big bad Republicans are selfish and in the way (and also, misguided religious zealots, but thats another story, on another topic).

And to top it all off, if you criticize the Dems, they will start bashing the Republicans.  When I say I'm not Republican and I believe there is only one party, they think its somehow a primitive, base understanding of politics, and I am lazy, and not paying attention.

Cognitive dissonance sure would be amusing, if it wasn't so infuriating.

Last night on the news, there was a segment about the "new center" in American politics, people who believe the government shouldn't be in our bedrooms or banning drugs AND (gasp!) who also believe the government is too large and spends too much money.

The reporter called these folks "pragmatic" and went to great pains not to point out the obvious, that these people are essentially libertarians-in-waiting. This country is ready to accept a major third party, but it remains to be seen whether we can survive that long.

Again with this default BULLSHIT??? I want a goddamn senator to go on the floor and say YOU SAY DEFAULT? I SAY BULLSHIT!! Default means not paying interest on the debt! We have PLENTY OF INCOME to pay for that! IF we default on the debt, it's because the TREASURY chose it that way!! And if they were to do that, they should end up in PRISON FOR LIFE for doing it.

Not raising the debt ceiling means THIS AND ONLY THIS... We cannot borrow money anymore... that means NO DEFICIT.

So if you vote to raise the debt ceiling, you are voting for MORE DEFICIT SPENDING.

So if you want to REALLY fuck the US over, vote to raise the debt ceiling, otherwise, tell all the liars here, in the medias, in the house and at the WH to go fuck themselves.

Hey, when Janet gets fired up, they're going to be doing this every quarter, but it is certain that the debt ceiling will be abolished by that time.  It has to be, this cannot continue through Barry's term since the initial ramp up needs to be in the 115 range to maintain current, which cranks the screws on the timer between debt crises, you know, the manufactured debt crises both parties manufacture..

The repubs should have put in a rider:  That debt interest will be paid first.  They could say they want it so that people dont live in fear, market stability or what the fuck.  Get it to pass.  Then on the next debt celing, they can call the bluff.

Im not for paying the debt, fuck the FED.Repealling a pay-the-debt statute will be easy in a SHTF situation.

it would just be so amazing to see this somehow fall through, and everyone across the globe panic at once.

it fucking sucks, default would be the best thing for this country in the long term. all they are doing now is pushing it off.

however, my question is, why can they not just continue pushing it off forever? is there actually a time that they must come to a long term solution?

Want Cheaper Healthcare? Just Make Less Money | Money Morning | Oct 15, 2013

Over the weekend, the San Francisco Chronicle delivered a stunning message that discourages and demotivates American workers from earning more income and promotes greater government dependency.

It's all thanks to sloppy incentives created by the Affordable Healthcare Act.

The Chronicle reported that Karen Pollitz, a senior fellow at the Kaiser Family Foundation, said last week that workers in California should consider reducing their 2014 income and work hours in order to qualify for Obamacare subsidies.

"If they can adjust (their income), they should," said Pollitz. "It's not cheating, it's allowed."

For a California family to fall under the 400% of poverty-level ceiling (the threshold to qualify for government assistance), the family's net income must be at or below $62,040. However, if they make just $1 more than this amount, they will not qualify for thousands of dollars in public assistance to purchase healthcare.

Earning $62,041 would trigger a massive increase in taxes and cost of healthcare premiums for the family.

In progressive terms, that amounts to a loss of a subsidy worth more than $10,000 each year for a family of four.

You'll need to have bribed your caring RN to ignore the prescribed lock-out period on the PCA syringe driver. There will be a maximum hourly dose, and a maximum 24 hour dose set.

Find out whose brand of PCA Syringe Driver your "chosen facility" uses, and get hold of the user manual. If "Site Policy" requires the programmed device to be in a locked case, arrange to have a key of your own, or at least a means to force the lock / latch; a standard electrician's screwdriver is quite strong enough . . . . . .

Costs very little to "plan ahead", especially for important "end of life" issues.

Just do a freaking simple bill :

This bill funds government at levels from the 2014 budget and raises the debt ceiling till February 7. Obama can then raise the debt ceiling by himself to THE MOON unless stopped by congress if they vote 2/3 against it.

Completely shot to hell: Physician–patient privilege and Breaches Of Doctor Patient Confidentiality

The relationship between a doctor and a patient should be built on trust and mutual respect. The doctor must trust the patient to follow his or her orders, and the patient must trust the doctor to give him or her the best possible care. The patient must respect the doctor's opinions and recommendations, while the doctor must respect the patient's personal needs and beliefs. To build and maintain this mutual level of trust and respect, doctors and patients must adhere to a certain level of confidentiality. Individuals must be encouraged to seek medical assistance or advice without any hindrance, fear, or concern that their rights will be violated or personal information will be disclosed to anyone.

During a medical examination, a doctor requires a lot of personal information from the patient to properly form a diagnosis of the patient's health. The doctor may form his own opinion about the patient based on the information received and assessment made. The doctor, though, no matter what he or she assumes, must maintain patient confidentiality on all medical records, including patient's x-rays, lab work and reports. The physician must communicate with the patient and staff concerning illness, symptoms and diagnosis, and must ensure that everyone understands the necessity of keeping everything inside the doctor's office.

Debt-ceiling bill funds Kentucky dam project to ire of McConnell foes October 16, 2013, 6:44 PM

The legislation on raising the debt ceiling and funding the government is out. And there’s some interesting items tucked in.

Here’s some dry language from the legislation:

  • http://s.wsj.net/img/orange_bullet.gif); background-position: 0% 6px; background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat;">SEC. 123. Section 3(a)(6) of Public Law 100–676 is amended by striking both occurrences of ‘‘$775,000,000’’ and inserting in lieu thereof, ‘‘$2,918,000,000’’

What’s that? Turns out, the dry language is quite wet: it’s a dam project along the Ohio River, in Kentucky. Click here for a favorable write-up from the Kentucky Corn Growers Association.

Hmm, who negotiated the bill? Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, of course, but also Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell — of Kentucky.

That’s got some on the right fired up.

“It’s the Kentucky Kickback,” says this post from the Senate Conservatives Fund. “In exchange for funding Obamacare and raising the debt limit, Mitch McConnell has secured a $2 billion earmark. This is an insult to all the Kentucky families who don’t want to pay for Obamacare and don’t want to shoulder any more debt.”

The SCF has tangled quite a bit with McConnell, and it’s expected to endorse Matt Bevin in the Republican primary in Kentucky next year.

Hey Tyler , any comments ? In my opinion when the house sees this there is no way they are passing the bill .
