Tea Party Blasts Boehner "The Senate Deal Is A Complete Sellout"
While the House looks set to vote for the Senate bill and kick the can just a little down the road, the Washington Post reports that at least one tea party group is calling for Republicans to hold their ground.
"The Senate deal is a complete sellout. Speaker Boehner and the House should stand firm and reject this deal to reign in the executive branch’s power before it is too late,”
-Tea Party Patriots head Jenny Beth Martin said.
“The House ‘leadership’ must stop playing ‘flinch’ with themselves, and instead, play hardball with the White House, the Senate, and the House. Otherwise, hard-working Americans are going to bear the burden of this unaffordable law (Obamacare). The American people will hold those responsible for this mess accountable.”

I just had a discussion with a guy about obamacare, and his argument boiled down to "the common good." So I asked him, if the "common good" requred him to be imprisoned at hard labor for the rest of his life, North Korean Gangnam Prison Camp Style, would that be ok? He still doesn't understand. The reality is that the labels we affix to how self interest manifests itself in our society are of little use. It's as though because we demand a certain economic system that we can actually impose that system on rational actors. Fortunately or unfortunately, it doesn't quite work like that. The labels we give to economic systems are just our love affair with academic concepts, most of which have no place in the real world and do not accurately represent any present state of affairs (they're always ex post facto).
The paradox of capitalism is that rational actors would never be caught dead participating in a market with perfect competition. As a result, rational actors seek to avoid competition and collect rent (and corrupt the market regulators). Perfect competition is never realized, thus the maximization of the efficient use of resources is also never realized. Further, to a certain extent, capitalism requires an equal starting position and presumes that inherent differences in core competencies do not naturally dictate the conclusion to competition. I dispute this presumption and, practically speaking, there is never an equal starting point. The beginning tends to dictate the end. Capitalists severely underestimate the desire by rational actors to avoid competition. There simply is no known mechanism to force the competition expected by capitalists.
I'll entertain a cleanest dirty shirt argument for capitalism, but to promote it as some sort of solution to our present ills is to completely ignore history, future, and common sense...
