Despite President's Urging, Obamacare Helpline Lives Up To Its Name

Tyler Durden's picture

It would appear, despite the President's urging, that Obamacare's helpline is living up to its mnemonics. As The National Review reports, President Obama emerged on Monday to assure Americans that the “kinks” surrounding the federal and state health-care exchanges are improving and urged consumers to call the exchange hotline if they continue to encounter problems online. Shortly after he made the suggestion, Twitter lit up with reporters and others who attempted to do so but failed to get through to a navigator as promised.

Indeed, Mr. President, 1-800-318-2596 to you too.

Via The National Review,

...

After dialing the number, some callers got a busy signal, others received an automated message, and yet others were referred back to Healthcare.gov.

In his speech, President Obama said that there was “no excuse” for the problems plaguing the website and assured Americans, “These problems are getting fixed.” He also said that the issues with the online exchanges do not reflect flaws in the legislation itself, which he said offers a high-quality product.

I am a 58 year old male with treatable asthma, (I need to use an inhaler only when I am near cats and horses) that is my pre-existing condition. My wife is 54 and no health issues. Our present premium is now $1880.00 a month, $22,560 a year with a $2000.00 in deductibles. I went on MN Sure website and the quote for the Platinum Plan is $800.00 per month a saving of $1000.00 a month. Thank you Mr. President! I am sure my wife will find a way to spend that savings on vacations, but that is good for the economy. We are very pleased.

But of course he doesn't mention his income level and the type of credits and subsidies he and his wife are getting from the 20 something millennials.

I say he's full of Obama Turbo Jizz.

The only other thing it could be is that they're jacking the rates down during signup only to raise your monthly premiums a certain percentage every month thereafter.

If millions refuse to sign up the first couple of years you can bet they'll be jacking rates up or providing more and more credits and subsidies.

And when you get to talk to a navigator, just remember, there are reports that many of them worked for ACORN, so now you can give all your personal information to someone you don't know, likely has had no background check and who knows what the criminal record may be.

I can see a real disconnect between what the government is expecting folks to do, and what actually is going to take place.

Do they not believe that anyone has any interest in personal privacy of information at all???

Teaser rates to combat bad press..... And of course no deductable infomation. I am calling bullshit since unless my doctor is an anomaly, he probably gets free inhalers anyways if his doctor doesn't write prescriptions for stuff like that. The doctor just goes into the sample grab bag and gives you whatever the reps happened to be peddling for minor stuff like that as long as you don't require something specific. They usually charge the co-pay in that case and write it up as some generic thing or just do it cash since that sort of visit you are in and out in like 5 minutes with no real work done.

No, but I know what MN has to offer on a basis of health insurance as I have friends in that industry.

One works for United Health Group and the other is an independent salesman who sells Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medica, etc...

I know that the guy is at minimum in a ball park figure for what he used to pay.  So I'm not saying I approve of the ACA, but for those who qualify, more power to them.  Everyone tends to look out for their own rational self-interest.

The obvious question is why your premium cost went down $1,000 / month for the same care (assuming this is the case)?  Where does the money come from?  How many are displeased in order for you to be pleased?

How and who decides these questions anyway?

I'm going to start a health insurance company that takes anyone. The service will be extremely cheap, $1 per year with a $1 sign up fee. At the end of the year, all money not used for medical care reimbursement will be returned to policy holders. So one year of coverage will cost you $1. The dollar I get to keep.

The catch is that no hospitals will ever take the plan, but it is health insurance, so it covers the individual mandate, preventing you from paying the tax.

So I get $1 for everyone who signs up, and you get to screw the IRS.
