Is Obama through? That is, have his lies and incompetence finally caught up with him and emasculated what remains of his effectiveness. Has he taken the concept of “lame duck” to new levels?
Dan Henninger describes Obama’s credibility problem:
Bluntly, Mr. Obama’s partners are concluding that they cannot do business with him. They don’t trust him.
Henninger’s observation does not bode well for US – International relations. Nor is it likely to provide support for new domestic initiatives.
The International ramifications are especially dangerous. It is difficult to think of one ally that supports the US as strongly as it did when Obama took office. More damaging is the spectacle that the US has become for the rest of the world. Obama, supported strongly upon election by most of the world, is now held in lower esteem Internationally than in the US.
Nations that thought of the US as a model of democracy, economic strength and leadership justifiably are questioning these assumptions. Some now see us as just another country moving toward Banana Republic governance.
Domestically, matters may be worse for Obama. Republicans, who distrusted him from the beginning, are even firmer in this belief as a result of the budget shutdown and other false promises. Democrats see the tactics and competence of the man and his Administration. As he is perceived to shift from asset to liability, their loyalty will shift.
Political ideology is not absolute. Democrats love liberalism and progressivism but not nearly as much as they love their office and place in power. If it comes to a choice, ideology and political loyalty will be abandoned in order to retain office.
Mr. Henninger’s quote limited his observation to “partners,” which can be construed as other political leaders or figures. However, Mr. Obama still has most of his voter support. Obama still has the ability to lie and much of his support base is too disinterested to care. Many are incapable of understanding politics beyond the cult of personality and “what’s in it for me.” Many would vote for Ted Cruz if he convinced them he would provide more freebies than Obama.
While Obama’s cult status is gone, his popularity among the masses remains. He has lost his ability to work with “partners” but not with the masses. What remains may still be enough for Obama to continue to weaken the US economically and politically.
His popularity always was dependent on his unusual and unconscionable ability to lie and convince people that there was a “free-lunch” if they supported him. His messianic overtones were merely Hollywood enhancements to his mendacity.
How much remains of Obama’s ability to remain effective depends on what the “uninformed” followers believe. Some of these will never question him. Others may be influenced by the shallowness that passes for today’s media. The media have been Obama’s most loyal ally. Whether that continues in the light of the ObamaCare fiasco is moot.
It is going to be hard to support ObamaCare for the media when Obama supporters experience the sticker-shock at enrollment (if the enrollment system ever gets fixed). Many believe they are going to get free health care. Most believe they are going to get large savings and better plans. All are in for rude surprises.
The failure of ObamaCare likely means the end of media protection for Obama. Survival for them is just as strong a motivation as survival for politicians.

MMP - yes - i finally realized this. the number of 'takers' has exceeded vastly the number of makers - and since they can vote also - they will continue to vote to get free stuff. and they don't really care about where jobs go either, or how much jobs here pay, or how much anybody with a job here gets taxed. or how much anybody here has in savings or retirement accounts, because that should be 'theirs'. and they will vote in people accordingly and those voted in will act accordingly and appropriate it. and in terms of 'civil war' - well they may many be fat and stupid, there are really a LOT of them. i'd be surprised if republicans can ever even pull 40% again.
Around the time of the last election, there was an article written explaining why trying to appeal to voters on the basis of 'the economy' or 'job creation' was a loser; to wit: A huge number of voters don't care about jobs because they don't want jobs. They want Obamaphones, free food, and money. Too, dotgov employees don't give a shit about anything but the continuation of their titles, privileges, pay, and benefits. Appealing to them on the grounds that, in order for the economy to improve, they're going to have to go is, well, 'unappealing', shall we say?
So, even if you could get them to understand that their welfare benefits or grotesque salaries or even the reason for their existing at all (i.e., "Here. Your job is to go around and measure all restaurants' handicrappers and fine them if they deviate in the slightest.") is slowly destroying the United States of America and will eventually lead to its utter and complete collapse ... they don't care.

I, for instance, did not quit smoking cigarettes the first time I was informed that smoking cigarettes might have long-term deleterious effects on my health.

Interesting enough, more and more people are not getting their news from traditional sources. Over time "established" media will not be the kind that sits around the campfire with JayC. Newspapers, magazines and other traditional media dies.
Back in the day if Walter Cronkite said it, it was true. Now, something like ZeroHedge could never be even thought of years ago. If you wanted to buy stock in 1987, you called your broker. If you wanted a quote, you had two choices, bug your broker or get out a ruler and line up the price in small print in the newspaper.

The really good news(tm) is that the pendulum swings back. At some point people will wake up and realize "Wow, paying for people that dont work is actually a dumb idea" and Revolution begins.

at that point - what % of people do you think you have? republicans are beyond finished except in localities. it's over. they are the majority and there is NO way in hell they are going to take a benefit cut and no way in hell that anybody else can get enough votes. the parasites have won.

Recently had the same thing happen on my mac. I think the browsers are having problems trying to process 2 or more video ads that start themselves at the same time. Installed ad blocker and the problem went away. I'd provide you with a link, but have no idea what is real and what is scamware in the microsoft universe.

Been coming to this site 3+ years. About the time the Snowden stuff started, IE began to freeze up on this site. It got so bad I finally downloaded FireFox. Been using FireFox ever since for all surfing. I no longer have any problems with freeze ups. Pop up adds are slim to none.
Yes, this site is really bad. It started when they added those "upgrades" meaning that bar at the bottom with the chat etc. I have had to go to Firefox with adblock to even read a page.

Sorry, I don't think it will work out that way. When the Fed insiders tell Obozo that the bubble is almost ready to burst, Obozo will go on TV and demand new Stimulus. He will say that the economy will collapse into a new depression unless the Republicans give him a trillion dollars per year of new spending. Of course the Republicans will flat out refuse and try to cut spending instead, and the market will collapse on schedule. Obama blames the Republicans, and the Democrats sweep the next election. The only question is whether that election will be the one next year or the one in 2016.

Took a laptop into the shop to get a replacement fan. It has been there for 2 weeks. I phoned and they told me it takes 2-3 weeks to get that particular part from China.

The Feds cannot spend their way to power over the states as they currently do by insisting on programs that can only be funded if the states kiss up for federal grants and gifts.
The country is forced to work on exports and living with a currency that is not accepted abroad...only our products will be...and we will be losing our biggest product, the dollar (and financial 'services'). We will then see American exceptionalism as we once again get to work. It will be a whole new world, ne without exponential growth but hopefully one without authortarian government. The end of the reign of the infinite fiat dollar will ultimately be a good thing. Unfortunately for Obama it will happen on his watch and he will be seen as the worst president in history.
In time. history will be kinder. as the problem with the currency has been there for decades but short term his reputation is toast.
Once the dollar is finally rejected there will be nothing that holds this country together. There are so many vast differences that the country will Balkanize into different regions.
