Labor Dept. Says Furloughed Federal Workers Can't Double-Dip On Unemployment Benefits

Tyler Durden's picture

How anyone thought this made any sense in the first place was a little beyond us, but the Labor Department has ruled that the Federal employees who were furloughed while the government was shutdown were not eligible for unemployment benefits (as well as back-pay)...

  • *FEDERAL WORKERS DURING SHUTDOWN NOT ELIGIBLE FOR UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS: CNBC

So no double-dip... we await the union-based class action suit...

I thought that to get unemployment benefits, one has to be actively looking for work (applying for jobs, interviewing for jobs, etc.).

How could furloughed workers be elible for benefits unless they were attempting to change jobs at the same time?

An Inconvenient Truth called Math
.... Why the system is fucked....

The following article outlines the fact that as per the census, 50% (I'm gonna use rounded easy numbers to make the point but are nonetheless reasonably accurate) of the population is on benefits.

http://cnsnews.com/news/article/terence-p-jeffrey/census-bureau-means-tested-govt-benefit-recipients-outnumber-full

Which leaves 50% gainfully employed as in paying taxes.

Then if you Google it, you'll find 33% of the workforce is government employed.  So, 33% of the remaining 50% is 17%

Leaving a mere 33% of the population gainfully employed in the private sector.

Now, why separate out the government employees?
because although they pay taxes on their wages, they only pay it on some say, 35% or so...
Meaning that 65% of their wages is accounted for by private sector employees taxe payments.

On top of which, many in the private sector work flipping burgers or as greeters at WalMart... which means they don't earn or pay fuck all in taxes.

So when it's all said and done, very few people, way the fuck less than 33% of working Americans, support the whole fucking system, alongside debt.

The current system is mathematically unsupportable.

Period, EOC

Booyah! Motherfuckers!

Ain't it grand?

The top 10% pretty much only pay capital gains. Most of them find loopholes so they don't pay anything. 52% of workers make under $20k, so they pay no tax.

I've said for a long time that the middle 10% of the country supports the whole thing. My estimation is the middle class only makes up 13% of the country today. A complete minority and why nobody cares about the middle class anymore. It almost doesn't exist.

But the politicians all say they are for the middle class because people believe it exists and want to be a part of it. Then their actions fuck middle class people over a log because they know there aren't enough middle class people left to do anything about it.

It's only grand if one is a government worker or one sucking on the numerous teats of government programs. If this followed a natural progression many would be starving and be happy to mow lawns for a meal. Why should someone come to my house and help me weed when they can sit on their fat butt, watch a big screen TV and collect 40k in benies? Instead, they bleed me dry and are angry I don't want to play? Why do they feel they have a right to what is mine?

Miffed;-)

If they are temporarily laid off and unable to claim unemployment benefits then look at it this way.

Alternating opne - close one day at a time ad infinitum. Half the employment cost and no need to pay unemployment benefits. If that is not enough then open one day close 2, 3, 4, 5, ...

Or is this a first instance of what we actually witnessed?

You don't understand - those unemployment benefits have already been spent.  And we're legally & morally obligated to provide the back pay.

We are not a Nation of deadbeats.  We must borrow or print the money necessary to pay both the unemployment benefits and the back pay.  Those people earned it in good faith, and the full faith and credit of the United States depends on us paying our bills on time and in full.

This is NOT negotiable.

(Of course soon the fiat itself won't be negotiable anymore, but that's a separate issue).
