US Foreign Policy SNAFU Deja Vu - US-Backed Rebels Lead Al-Qaeda Resurgence

Tyler Durden's picture

It's happening again. The US lack of intervention in Syria (and implicit and explicit support for the rebels) has apparently emboldened none other than Al-Qaeda. As the WSJ reports, a flurry of recent attacks by al Qaeda-linked militants in Iraq - strengthened by their alliance with jihadist fighters in Syria - is threatening to undo years of U.S. efforts to crush the group, widening sectarian conflict in the Middle East. Iraqi security officials say al Qaeda-linked fighters from the militant group Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, or ISIS, are moving aggressively to re-establish a base of operations in Anbar province, the stronghold of the Sunni insurgency during the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

Via WSJ,

The chaos across the border in Syria and Iraqi Sunnis' feeling of discrimination under the Shiite-led government has reignited the kind of intense sectarian strife that brought Iraq to the verge of civil war in 2006-2007. A security vacuum left by the withdrawal of American combat troops in December 2011 is also helping the fighters regain a foothold.

...

Iraqi security officials say al Qaeda-linked fighters from the militant group Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, or ISIS, are moving aggressively to re-establish a base of operations in Anbar province, the stronghold of the Sunni insurgency during the U.S.-led war.

If the extremists succeed, they would undo one of the hardest-fought gains of U.S. forces and their Iraqi allies. By the time of the U.S. pullout at the end of 2011, the insurgency had been significantly weakened, in large part by a U.S. alliance with moderate Sunni tribesmen.

...

Following recent attacks in Anbar and the northern city of Mosul, Syrian and Iraqi jihadis openly congratulated ISIS operatives on jihadi Web forums.

Whereas attacks in the rest of the country tend to be isolated acts of terror such as car and suicide bombings, Anbar officials say attacks in the province look more like muscular efforts to gain and hold territory.

The growing instability in Iraq coincides with the strengthening of jihadist rebels in Syria, many of them foreign fighters, battling to unseat President Bashar al-Assad.

The fighters flow fluidly back and forth across the Iraq-Syria border, staging attacks on both sides, Iraqi intelligence officials said.

...

"The regional situation is applying huge pressure on us," said Falih al Essawi, the deputy head of Anbar provincial council and a member in a prominent Sunni tribe. "ISIS is trying to control the borders to find a means to transport weapons, equipment and fighters between the two countries."

...

While most local residents in Anbar don't support al Qaeda, many see the group as a last bastion of resistance against Shiite domination.

"ISIS isn't facing any refusal or resistance from the locals," said Mr. Tou'ma, the Shiite legislator.

...

The Obama administration, in turn, has angered its Persian Gulf allies with its overtures to Iran and its decision not to intervene in Syria.

"Isis, wasn't that a pagan Babylonian goddess? And Babylon, wasn't that right around where Iraq is?  And Isis, isn't that the first part of the Trinity, Isis, Ra, El, that Israel is named after?"

Isis is actually Egyptian, Semaramis is Babylonian.  However, the religions of Babylon and Egypt are closely related, as are Greek and Roman mythology.  Similar charcters with different names.

You are correct about Is-Ra-El.  Judaism is plagarized from earlier religions.  Hebrews followed whatever relgion was popular in their region at the time, just as people do in modern times.  Religions are tools of the Kings, administered by the priests to protect power of the throne, same as it is today.

Those who hold the ancient knowledge know the origins of religion.  They do not share it with the public in literal form.  An emperor ordained the Christian religion and a King put it in print for mass consumption.  However, just as your rulers today distort the truths, so did they with the Testaments.  Yes, these are full of history and truths, but are spun and not necessarily occuring in the times claimed.

Scholars will claim Babylon is the oldest civilization of the Mid East.  This is incorrect, as evidenced by the sphinx and its water erosion.  Did you know there is a series of labyrinths under the Sphinx and extending miles beyond the Memphis pyramids?  Included are grand openings the size of cathedrals, masonic columns and more.

There is much history the general population is not privy to.

Yep, history is definitely full of surprises.

I agree that chronologically our understanding of history is flawed.   One thing I heard was that the New Testament and Old Testament actually represented two DISTINCT religious traditions, hence the clear difference "Eye for an eye" to "Turn the other cheek", as but one example.

I think the building of temples was part of a medieval strategy by feudal rulers to 'win the minds' of the populace.  If you grew up in a wooden shack with a dirt floor, the Hagia Sophia would probably blow your mind.

You might want to look into secret societies.  Or not.

History is replete with whispers of secret societies. Accounts of elders or priests who guarded the forbidden knowledge of ancient peoples. Prominent men, meeting in secret, who directed the course of civilization are recorded in the writings of all people.

The oldest is the Brotherhood of the Snake, also called the Brotherhood of the Dragon, and it still exists under many different names. It is clear that religion has always played a significant role in the course of these organizations. Communication with a higher source, often divine, is a familiar claim in all but a few.

The secrets of these groups are thought to be so profound that only a chosen, well-educated few are able to understand and use them. These men use their special knowledge for the benefit of all mankind. At least that is what they claim. How are we to know, since their knowledge and actions have been secret? Fortunately, some of it has become public knowledge. ~ Milton William Cooper

Dragon Boundary Marker at the entrance to 'The City' in London

Image description:

Bold silver dragon with arrow tongue and tail standing atop plinth and guarding the entrance to the City on Blackfriars Bridge, City of London, England.

The dragon symbolises the City of London[aka 'The Square Mile'] and the winged creature, bearing the red cross of St George features in the City's coat-of-arms. This dragon is one of a number of boundary markers which greet the visitor at main entrances to the City.

The Cooper quote and the dragons guarding The City...it's all just coinky-dinks...Right?

Don't the oh-so-intelligent folks at our Alphabet agencies realize that people in the middle east don't subscribe to our Western "red team/blue team" style politics?

Well, I guess since these retards developed professionally while "fighting" the cold-war they are unable to think outside of that mindset.

This is much more fluid, much more chaotic than they realize.  Oh sure they can talk a big game about "Asymetrical Warfare" all the day long, but they don't truly understand it (and I think in large part because they didn't grow up with it or mature with it and are set in their ways) and certainly don't know how to act in order to counter it.

But I know how to help.  I understand these dynamics.  I understand these people and how they think.  But I'm not going to help unless I can get paid (fucking $$$$$) for it.

Right.  Let's not forget that Al-Queda works for US and S.A..  They are our enemy when we want them to be and our friend when we want them to be.  They do what they are told to do (i.e. Lybia, Syria) and are paid for it.

So, there is a reason they are "resurging" in Iraq.  I'm sure it is related to SA pretending to be pissed at US right now and US pretending to get along with Iran right now.

It is business as usual in Syria, regardless of what is reported.

If this expands it will be a door for the US to get back involved.  They need a new excuse, this may be it.

Things would be a lot easier if one could take the MSM at face value.  Unfortunately the WSJ was at the forefront in pushing for Iraq war II based on:

1) a fabricated link to 9-11 (supposed hijacker Mohammed Atta meeting an Iraqi intelligence official in Prague),

2) trying to tie Iraq to the anthrax attacks,

3) promoting the non-existent Iraqi (around 2002) WMD threat.

That's not to say this story is false either, but at the very least it does hype up the supposed menace of Al-Qaeda in the public's mind, and consequently provides justification for continuing the war on terror. And as most of us should be aware by now, the GWOT is being used as an excuse to limit some of our freedoms.

Re; The naivite on this comment board can be astounding sometimes.

Don't confuse naivity for "Libertarians" (LINO's) and "Conservatives" (CINO's) with Red Team OCD.

The true-believers of both Teams simply have an OCD where they believe the bullshit created by their own sociopathic leaders.   Most humans have it, and (probably) all young males do.  Just depends on how strong the OCD is and what bullshit your brain resonates too.

They can't help themselves.

There are things that could have been done, and things that should have not have been done which would have made the situation "less bad" than this collective of cretins have made it.

And to top it off, they they don't even run the retard shtick, these arrogant ass clowns pretend they actually know what they're talking about when they actually have no clue what the fuck they're doing.

The current administration has literally FUBAR'd a bad situation, which does nothing but raise long term costs, political, economic, and blood- there are NO EXCUSES for this.

Get out of the Middle East, get out of Africa. If $60+Bil. a year for Homeland Security can't stop a few raghead terrorists from coming into this country then we deserve what we get and I want my money back.

FFCS, that's what we HAVE been doing since we put the Saud family in charge of the middle-east.

Where do you think a bunch of sand-people get all these cool toys to play with?

Divide and Conquer.

If you look at the Middle East, you will see that the countries with lots of people have SOME oil, and the countries with less people have LOTS of oil.   Those borders were drawn literally as lines in the sand, by the British, as the partitioning of the Ottoman Empire.    Its no accident, IMO.

It was no accident.

There was no way that allied powers were going to give a huge population of "WOGS" unlimited access to unlimited funds.

Nomadic tribes were thought to be so much easier to control.

pure coincidence that just about all the folks who found those Iraqi WMDs in the Office of Special plans were ultra-Zionist Jews

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2004/01/lie-factory

pure coincidence AIPAC and your more Israelcentric types are the loudests voices calling for another war in Syria.

Pure coincidence so many neocons, who favor using American blood and treasure to remake the middle east, are Jewish

And wholly predictable that some asshole like you comes along and tries to conflate telling the truth with "hate."
